Emma Roberts covers Nylon: ‘I still believe in the romantic movie outcome’

Emma Roberts

Well, isn’t this a serendipitous development? Just as Emma Roberts ends a week where her public image has been completely turned onto its head by the revelation of her biting and punching boyfriend Evan Peters (and then having her team try to explain it all away as a “passionate” and “extreme” relationship), she’s been revealed as the cover girl for the August issue of Nylon. Damn, I sound terribly cynical, right? I’m not in any way trying to link what happened in that hotel room between Emma and Evan to the fact that Emma is starting promotional duties for We’re the Millers, but I’m sure producers aren’t pleased.

Some of you have already made your feelings known that I’m not being harsh enough to Emma in the face of the violence she committed against her boyfriend — who of course decided (like many abused parties) not to press charges and to try and move forth with her — because I haven’t outright compared Emma to Chris Brown or Charles Saatchi. Perhaps that’s because the incident (spun or not) has been described as a mutual fight even though Evan was the only one with visible enough injuries to the extent that Emma was arrested. And unlike the abuse inflicted against Rihanna and Nigella Lawson, we haven’t seen disturbing photos of Evan’s injuries. Regardless, I am hoping like crazy that Evan will wise up and leave Emma because they are clearly in the midst of a toxic and unhealthy relationship. Whatever they feel they have together — it needs to end. I guess we’ll just have to see how this plays out, and hopefully it will happen with an over-the-phone breakup. Right now though, Emma is looking really strange with all of these pre-hotel-fight quotes to Nylon, and yes, she talked about Evan:

Emma Roberts

On love: “I’ve been with people in the past who lie about what they’re doing or whom they’re with, and you always find out about it. […] I’ve grown up in a business where we’re taught to think that relationships don’t last, and that people are supposed to be married a bunch of times. But I come from the school of getting married once. Every relationship should be important. Everyone kind of rolls their eyes at me, but I still believe in the romantic movie outcome.”

On making mistakes:“I can’t say I’m never going to mess up, but if I do, I’ll definitely be very sorry.”

On meeting her boyfriend Evan Peters:“We first met at a dinner party, and then we worked together on a movie [Adult World], which we did not date during. We didn’t get along, actually–he wouldn’t speak to me. But it turned out that we both liked each other, so months later, we started dating, which worked out for the best.”

On her public image: “I mean, I’m sure everyone can say this, but a lot of people perceive me differently from how I actually am.”

On growing up–or not:“I’m not really obsessed with wanting to be older and more mature. I felt like more of a grown-up at 17 than I do at 22. I’ve been regressing a little bit: ‘Wait, help me! I’m not ready! Don’t make me go!’ But I’ve matured, definitely.”

[From Nylon]

God, I could interpret Emma’s statements in so many ways now that we know that she bit and hit her boyfriend earlier this month. She claims that she’d be sorry if she ever messed up, but I haven’t heard Emma’s public apology yet … just a vague joint statement wherein both she and Evan have described the incident as “an unfortunate incident and misunderstanding.” As for Emma’s admission in this interview that she and Evan didn’t get along at the beginning of their working relationship, well, perhaps they should have taken that as a clue. Hindsight really is everything. And I don’t see a “romantic movie outcome” in their future by any stretch.

But back to this photospread. Nylon shoots are always the worst.

Well, that kicking pose is kinda ironic now, non?

  2. lisa says:

    god bless nepotism

    • Tapioca says:

Well, obviously. I can’t imagine the horrors of a world without Gwyneth Paltrow, George W. Bush and Stella McCartney meshwear!

      • spiderkitty says:

That would be a boring world. Can you imagine a world without Gwyneth and her preaching all the time? Who am I going to resort to for life advice?

      • blaize says:

I feel dumb now. I don’t even know who Gwennyth Paltrow is related to.

      • Lauren says:

@Tapioca Gwyneth Paltrow’s father was the hollywood producer/ director Bruce Paltrow. Her mother is hollywood actress Blythe Danner.

  3. Lucy2 says:

    That photoshoot is horrible!
Passionate and extreme ard not the same thing as violent. Their relationship is violent.

  4. brin says:

    See how karma works, Emma.

  5. blue marie says:

romantic movie outcome = punch to the nose and bite marks and bruises on the ones you love, didn’t everyone know that?

  6. Birdie says:

To me that’s what’s wrong with this girl: horrible personality, nepotism but thinks she made it all by herself, not a real beauty and oh.. very violent.
Get an education and spare us your B-movie career.

  7. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I hope she gets help before she marries and/or has children.

  8. Annabelle says:

I’m going to play devil’s advocate for a moment. Police arrested Emma because her BF had VISIBLE injuries, but by all accounts, they were fighting each other. It’s very possible that he started it, and she retaliated. That would explain why he declined to press charges and why they’re still together, releasing joint statements about their “misunderstanding.” Now, if it was one-sided, by all means, Emma needs to be charged with assault. If that’s the case, I don’t think she should get a pass because she’s a woman. I just don’t think it’s a good idea to rush to judgement with a lot of the picture missing.

    • Annie says:

But why is everyone ever so patient and understanding when it’s a woman? If it were a guy nobody would even consider that he hit back because he was defending himself. He was an abusive a-hole, period. Nobody would give him the benefit of the doubt and I don’t think Emma deserves that benefit either. Maybe her bf did put a hand on her too to defend himself. It’s absolutely clear that she was the main agressor because she punched him and BIT HIM. Who does that? The police interviewed witnesses too, you know. People told what they saw and based on that, and her bf’s injuries, they chose to arrest her. That is pretty clear to me.

If they are releasing a joint statement it’s mostly because of how this makes them look. They are thinking about their careers. But I don’t see them as taking responsibility for this or even apologizing.

      • Annabelle says:

I may be in the minority, but I do give the benefit of the doubt, whether it’s a male or female doing the abusing. With Chris Brown or Charles Saatchi, there was a multitude of evidence that neither Rihanna nor Nigella Lawson instigated the abuse, and those situations were pretty cut and dried, blame-wise. In this situation, there’s absolutely an alternate scenario wherein she was defending herself. This is purely speculation (but so are a lot of comments here), but imagine he was holding her down. In that case, she may have bitten his arm/hand and hit him in the face to get free. Or, he could have been holding her down because SHE was the aggressor. Obviously, none of us know for sure what happened, so I think that until more details come to light, I can’t say she’s only to blame.

    • doop says:

I think that if it were as two-sided as everyone’s assuming he would’ve been detained as well. She was probably still going at it when the cops showed up.

  9. anneesezz says:

I dislike her more and more every time I read a story about her. What an annoying, entitled brat. Another one who was born on third base and thinks she hit a triple.

  10. Christin says:

We didn’t get along; he wouldn’t speak to me. But they both liked each other? Are they 7 years old? Sounds like he was not into her and maybe she viewed him as a challenge. I really don’t get her comments about the start of their relationship.

    • Annie says:

I hate when people believe in things like “when hate turns to love.”
I think that’s pretty sick, to go after someone who you clearly don’t get along with. Some people just like having someone to fight with.

  11. wonderwoman21 says:

I never liked her, now I feel vindicated! I used to think it was just her obviously plain looks, try-hard hipster fashion, and the nepotism that took her places that irked me…but shes abusive too! Vindicated.

  12. Cora says:

Emma was arrested in Montreal on July 7.
Here is a photo of Emma taken on July 10 without a single bruise on her. I’ll let you ladies decide whether or not she has makeup on.

    • Collar says:

She could have bruises in the covered areas though. Not to mention that not having bruises doesnt negate the fight theory. I’m taking a wait and see with this case.

      • Cora says:

        I’m not disagreeing with you.
However, the bruises people were referring to originally, were bruises that were all over her legs in some photos that came out on TMZ.

      • Annabelle says:

        @Cora
The TMZ pics are candids, not for an event where she was professionally made up, possibly including body makeup. In the TMZ pics, she has a lot of bruising on her legs and her elbow is bandaged. She may have bit and/or hit her BF, but it looks like she was roughed up, too.

      • Tiffany :) says:

        Annabelle,
If she was hit enough to be bruised, wouldn’t the cops have noticed her legs were all red and swollen? Or that her elbow was bleeding hard enough to still need a band-aid 3 days later?

      • Annabelle says:

        @Tiffany

Bruises don’t show up immediately, not for me at least. She could have been wearing pants and long sleeves as far as any of us know. My point is, he had a bloody nose and she has legs covered in bruises and a bandaged elbow. It doesn’t look like this fight was one sided at all. It sounds like these two are toxic together and need to split ASAP.

    • Meaghan says:

If you look closely at the two pics, you can sorta see a little bit of the bruise above the knee, I bet she covered it up with make-up. I was at a slayer concert, right at the front of the mosh pit and the bruises on my legs were nasty. I covered it all up for work, and it looked sort of like that picture.

And you don’t know what she was wearing when she was arrested, she could have had a sweater on. And bruises for me don’t show up until the next day, its never swollen and red right away.

  13. taxi says:

She’s a bratty thing who has delusions about her own degrees of hotness & talent. Give her a muzzle.

  14. Lucy says:

She’s right about her public image, though. I used to like her and see her as a sweet girl, but she turned out to be batsh*t crazy.

  15. TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

Lets see Nylon has had Avril and now Emma on their cover; could they possibly bump it up and put on, say, Esperanza Spalding or Stevie Nicks, you know, women with real talent. The problem with nepotism is that the beneficiary often can’t admit that’s why they are in a nice position, and consequently over exaggerate their own skills/abilities as a means of compensating for and denying the obvious.

  16. Dinah says:

Is anyone else sick to death of this girl? Her time has come AND gone.

  17. Alexis says:

‘I still believe in the romantic movie outcome’ You are indeed a relative of Julia Roberts. *eye roll*

  18. Meggin says:

These pictures are really awful. A professional took them? I hate to say it and sound mean but I don’t see the beauty in her. She is no Julia!
