Leah Remini’s ex stepmom on Kirstie Alley: ‘she’s a big fat bully’

The National Enquirer is pretty skilled at getting disgruntled family members to speak out about their famous relatives. (They’re also good at tracking down random down-on-their-luck relatives of celebrities, but that’s another story.) As you’ve heard, Leah Remini has left the Scientology cult, along with her entire extended family. Remini is a second generation Scientologist and given how famous she is this is a huge scandal within the cult. Remaining high-level cult members, like Kirstie Alley, are scrambling to “shun” Leah and disconnect from her and anyone who dares associate with her. This is their go-to response to cult defection, and it seems obsolete in the age of the Internet. They actually demand that their members “defriend” ex-Scientologists on Facebook. That’ll show them!

Anyway, Kirstie Alley is leading the motley crew of active Scientologists who are working to make sure Leah is shut out and properly shunned or whatever they do. It’s probably much more nefarious than I can imagine, considering that some people get put in work camps for minor transgressions. Since Leah is rich and famous, she’s somewhat insulated from the worst parts of Scientology, but she knows how they operate and so does her entire family. Lea’s ex stepmother told The Enquirer that Kirstie Alley is a nasty horrible person, basically, and she didn’t mince words.

Leah’s entire family has left the church, including her mother and sister Nicole Remini, but now her former stepmother says that she is being bullied by the Cheers star.

“Kirstie Alley is just a big fat bully!” Donna Remini-Fiore told the National Enquirer.

Despite the cryptic text messages that Kirstie says were not aimed at Leah, her stepmom says she shouldn’t be turning her back on her longtime friend.

“She’s an idiot to think she could control Leah. Leah has always been her own person, and Kirstie should have known better.”

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Leah’s sister Nicole said that Kirstie hasn’t spoken to her sister at all since she left Scientology.

Her former step mom defended Leah, saying: “Besides that, Leah is a wonderful person and loyal friend who’s supported everything Kirstie does without hesitation.

For more exclusive details about how Leah’s family is rallying around her following her departure from Scientology pick up the latest issue of the National Enquirer on newsstands Thursday.

[From Radar Online]

I don’t like Kirstie Alley either, but there’s no need to call her “fat” or anything. Just point out that what she’s doing is despicable, you don’t have to personally attack her. I guess that falls under “Fair Game” though. Kirstie is just a product of her cult. She’s a good cult member and is going after Leah like she’s been taught to do. If she doesn’t, and she isn’t perceived as a leader, the axe will fall on her one day. In her heart of hearts she knows that, and that realization is probably fueling most of her venom toward Leah. Leah got out, she’s in it for life unless there’s some big upheaval in the cult.

It would be nice to hear Leah personally address all these stories but you know she’s not going to do that. She’s already stuck her neck out far enough.

Well apparently Kristi in indeed a bully and for that I feel sorry for her. I used to be a fan but not any longer. I think the CO$ needs to be investigated by the government and since they are more of a cult than a church be stripped of their tax exempt status.

    • John Wayne Lives says:

+1 the government really needs to do something. This cult is off the charts! Dangerous, dangerous people!! What else is it going to take?!

      • Ok says:

Hang on there. I am completely not a fan of Scientology. But you have to remember the reason this country was founded. Religious freedom.

If you want to be an idiot and decor your life and money to Scientology, this country protects your right to do just that.

      • SantaSays says:

Doesn’t that completely depend on what is deemed a religion? Isn’t there some basic objective qualification? Freedom of thought and expression, okay, but I think arbitrarily claiming are a religion and claim the legal and social protections thereof, is a flimsy criteria. Why not allow any and every cult to claim that status? Oh wait…
But then, I’m European and we have a longer history and experience of how to decide these things.

      • drdoolittling says:

@ok: I get that but for this straight-up cult to get tax breaks and be viewed as a legitimate religion is ridiculous. Our constitution should not be used to allow their abuses to go on. Sure, if people want to believe this nonsense, fine. But make them pay taxes and stop letting them get away with murder.

      • Bridget says:

@OK (because it won’t let me directly reply). Religious freedom doesn’t mean ‘free to exploit people in a cult’. You can’t discuss personal freedom being protected by the government and then assert that an organization is free to exploit its members. Doesn’t work that way.

    • cynicalsmirk says:

OK – devoting life and money to something you believe in is one thing. Having that organization then turn around and separate you from your children, pay you slave wages, incarcerate you against your will – these are the issues that people are horrified by. It seems that after a period of time, people are being divested of their freedom of choice. I’m not American, so I’m not certain, but I think freedom of choice is also a constitutional right in the US.

  2. Belle Epoch says:

Kirstie has CHILDREN. So they are being raised in a cult by a cuckoo mother who refuses psychological help – so they won’t get any, either. No wonder they all hang out together. They really can’t play well with others.

    • Chicagogurl says:

Kirstie and her ex Parker had a knock down drag out divorce, mostly about finances and her raising the kids in the cult. Parker won some money and joint custody, surprising considering scientology’s pull. Parker has said from day one he was worried and he initially tried for full custody to sheild them from the cult, but kirstie had him pegged as a suppressive person and shunned. She simply had more money to fight than he did in the end. I think her kids are weird, but surprisingly normal for growing up in her house and they take care of her more than she takes care of them. She’s so vile.

  3. Anoneemouse says:

I seem to recall that before she left Scientology, Leah was as big an asshole and Kirstie. Glad she got out but she used to be “one of them” too.

  4. JL says:

Yeah Kristie’s a bully, however FAT has nothing to do with that. I bet she’d be a righteous skinny bitch bully too.

I know larger women that are absolutely, stunningly beautiful. Bullies are ugly on the inside and no amount of fat can cover that up.

    • Shelby says:

      +1 JL

    • Jacqueline says:

I didn’t read her statement that way. Just as a kid could call someone a “big, fat stupid-head” she’s calling her a “big, fat bully” (only Alley happens to actually be fat)

      • Joy says:

Agreed. For example Anthony Weiner is a big fat moron. Though he’s thin.

      • claire says:

Agreed. That term doesn’t have to do with actual weight. It’s just a descriptor to mean extreme, etc.

    • Sinndy says:

I read the “big fat bully” as not so much a “fat” comment, but using the term “big fat” as a descriptive word, as in “big fat loser” or “big fat meanie”. I use it all the time instead of other adjectives meaning “big” or “huge” to emphasize whatever the following word is. While Kirstie is fat, calling her a “big fat bully” isn’t NECESSARILY insulting her weight.

    • LeeBlaylock says:

Sorry, but there ARE certain personality types that go along with binge eating. Impulsive behavior (eating too much) often goes hand in hand with a bossy, overbearing type personality. People who study body types – ectomorph, mesomorph, endomorph – will tell you the same thing. Although its not politically correct to talk about it anymore. We have to pretend that everyone is the same and exactly equal in every way.

  5. DanaG says:

Phew I thought it was my computer. Kirstie needs to shutup she has barely a career left and it’s going to disappear if she keeps acting like this. I suppose Tom could help get her a role in something. I think the step mom is just really angry with the way Leah is being treated. They need to support Leah but don’t get into a slanging match with the Scientologists we all know it’s what they want.

  6. SW says:

I love that Leah can look so pretty, and also so goofy! Lol good for her for leaving the cult, that’s a hard thing to do, rich and famous or not.

  7. SmokeyBlues says:

Kirstie is a mess and after reading this article I feel sad for her. it’s good, Celebitchy, that you pointed out that Kirstie is also stuck in this sick cult and may be reacting out if fear and anxiety. It doesn’t excuse her behavior but it does go to show how insidious this cult is.

  8. Hautie says:

I don’t think the step-mother was necessarily trying to be mean. About Kirstie’s size.

Calling someone a “big fat bully” is an old school insult – thing. And really has nothing to do with being physically large.

But it has everything to do with being a huge nasty piece of work.

If the step mother really wanted to get ugly. I can think of at least 6 brutal name tags, she could have hung on Crazy Cult Kirstie.

    • Kiddo says:

I agree about the Big Fat Liar quote. It doesn’t denote an intentional insult about a person’s physical size. You can call a skinny person a big fat liar too. It’s meant, I think, to describe how large the lies are, not the person.

      • Hiddlesgirl85 says:

+1 That is definately how I read it to. She wasn’t making a reference to her actual physical size, rather that she is a “big, fat” bully – an old school phrase. I thought kids used to say things like that all the time.

      • Kiddo says:

Yes, sorry, I wrote liar instead of bully, but that is a phrase I’ve most often heard combined with Big Fat (fill in the blank).

    • Ok says:

Crazy Cult Kirstie is a pretty good tag though

  9. Jayna says:

People said Leah’s mother was still in the church.

  10. Deidre says:

With all this out front and threatening strong action; Fraulein K. Alley will soon rise up in rank to become Head and Chief Commander of the Scientol-stormtroopers in the Final Solution extermination of excommunicated, deserter camps no doubt..

  11. Londongal says:

Kirsty Alley is a mental old twat at this stage, no? Does anyone give two shiny shits what she says/rants over anyway?!

    • Izzy says:

I personally do not give two shits, shiny or otherwise.

I’m guessing Leah Remini feels similarly!

  12. Amelia says:

Kirstie seems like a cool, whacky person most of the time on twitter, yet you hear all of this stuff and it’s a mindfuck. I’m wondering are there other celebs waiting to make a run for it too!

I think it’s a bit hypocritical for a gossip site (whose writers get personal ALL THE TIME) to call a celebrity/anyone out for personally attacking someone. Have you read some of the comment sections?

  13. Liz says:

In the context of KA’s abortive attempt to sell a worthless weight loss product based on Scientology, I have no issue with adding “fat” to any list of her failings. It’s part of the whole picture of fraud, vanity, and delusion.

  14. Jennifer12 says:

I feel the same way about personal attacks. Kirstie is being vile, but don’t go after her appearance. What’s the point? I can’t stand Leann Rimes, but I never join in when people disparage her looks. If your soul is poisonous, that’s insult enough.

  15. kim says:

It’s crazy kirstie! No one takes what she says seriously. She’s ridiculous. Also I didn’t find the big fat bully comment rude. I read it the same as someone saying the generic comment , “big fat liar” in a kids tone.

  16. FLORC says:

I love the fact that Leah’s ex step mom is saying she’s a great person. That says a lot about her imo.

I also have no issue with Kristi being called fat. The word fat doesn’t have to be attacking her weight in that phrase. I’ve called skinny girls big fat liars before.
It’s a phrase. Fat can also be used to refer to something ugly, but not everything fat is ugly. I’m taking this as fat meaning a large portion of an ugly, liar’s personality.
Extra body mass or not, Kristi seems to be an ugly person so the phrase seems solid to me.

  17. Kiddo says:

This is beginning to make me feel very sorry for Kirstie. Not for the derogatory name slung her way, but the fact that she feels an obligation to continue down this route.

  18. dcypher1 says:

She is so brainwashed she will always be to blind to see shes in a cult and a big scam. If u believe in all the things scientology believes just become a Buddhist cus that’s the religion scientology is ripping off they just added xenu to make it more intetesting and get converts.

  19. SusieQ2 says:

Come on, it’s the Enquirer. How do we know she actually called her a ‘fat’ bully?

Donna Fiore has given her thoughts about Leahs situation to Tony Ortega at the Underground Bunker.

    http://tonyortega.org/2013/07/24/scientology-continues-to-handle-the-black-pr-of-leah-reminis-defection/#more-8678

What I think is more telling is that the cult has produced a video, instructing its followers how to deal with the Leah fallout. Members are being ordered to visit their local ‘org’ to view the video.

No such thing as making your own mind up. You have to be told how to think and what to believe. Brainwashing, pure and simple.

Once again, thanks CB for continuing to highlight the practices of this insidious cult.

  20. strokesbeard says:

Obviously she doesn’t mean Fat as in Overweight, its just a phare people use. like you’re a Big Fat Liar, you’re a Big Fat Bully. there’s even a movie called Big Fat Liar. geez calm down

  21. erika says:

Since when did religion become so damn vindictive? Time to revalute the tax free ‘!church’ status ….. jeesh

Devil himself doesnt play so mean!!

  22. TG says:

It looks like her face is disappearing inside her neck. Weird.

  23. buzz says:

    I agree

  24. buzz says:

Is Kirstie Alley under the impression she will get any work after this? I hope she’s getting good residuals she can life off of.

  25. LeeBlaylock says:

Some large women seem to think its okay to be rude, mean & nasty because they are, you know, overweight. If a thin, gorgeous woman were to act the same way she would be branded a witch for life. Yet fat girls get away with this behavior all the time.

    • blue marie says:

uh, no.. a witch is a witch no matter the size. people are probably more shocked when larger ladies are rude, simply because people believe them to be jolly.

    • jwoolman says:

A person’s personality doesn’t change when they gain or lose weight. They just are who they are at whatever size. You might just be noticing it more when you run into a larger “mean girl” since the stereotype is faddishly thin. (The “popular girls” and “cheerleaders” in high school.)

I’ve known nice people at every size, likewise for the mean ones.

  26. CindyKennedy says:

I don’t know why “FAT” is considered such a dirty word. Its not like its a cuss word or something. Our society has become way too thin-skinned and we get offended over the least little thing that bugs us in any way, shape or form.

  27. emma says:

It’s so awesome that her entire family left the cult. It’s wonderful they’re all so supportive of her and aren’t willing to cut her out of their lives.

  28. CC says:

In a “fair game” cult, it is fair game to call it like it is. Besides , she IS fat. BMI index is somewhat objective in it. I can use “obese” instead, since that’s what she is. She’s definitely past overweight.

Being fat doesn’t make her detestable/unlikable, being a psycho b*tch does.

  29. Mew says:

I’m starting to think that the whole scientology thing was some messed up joke by an atheist (I know who made it all up, yeah, I know), like the big Spaghetti Monster, but somehow fckd up ppl just decided it’s all real and went all the way. Anything that gives power and might at least in their head without needing to actually have anything to back it up.

  30. FassDaActor says:

Let freedom ring Leah. Congrats on your escape.

  31. Sandra says:

I’m really getting to dislike and despise these scientologists. Wake up Kirstie and other ahole followers of your cult, you are not going to clear the planet and rule. Segregate yourselves from us Humans and go in a cave somewhere, chant and speak your alien crap shit among yourselves and STFU!!! You scientologists are nothing but low lives.
