Is Gerard Butler being considered for Batman in the ‘Man of Steel’ sequel?

We rarely write about Gerard Butler anymore. Why is that? What happened to G-But? I guess he sort of got boring when he decided to “settle down” with a famewhore – and yes, he’s still with Madalina Ghenea – plus Gerard hasn’t been giving a lot of interviews or banging anyone in porto-potties lately. It’s our loss. Anyway, these are some new photos of Gerard in London and then leaving London Monday and Tuesday.

Interestingly enough, Gerard’s name has been mentioned (in whispers!) for the most sought-after role for dudes that we’ve seen in a while. Casting a new Batman for the Man of Steel sequel has been consuming Hollywood and all of the industry gossipers/insiders for weeks now. There’s a site called Batman On Film, and they actually had the “scoop” on the Batman casting a few days before The Hollywood Reporter published their shortlist on Monday – which I covered here. THR said that Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling and Joe Manganiello (ugh) were some of the leading contenders. Meanwhile, Batman on Film says that those names are being discussed, but their list is expanded to include Jude Law, Jon Hamm, Ben Affleck, Jim Caviezel, Josh Duhamel and… Gerard Butler.

You know what? I kind of like the idea of G-But at Batman. He wouldn’t get the offer, of course (because he’s G-But), but I still think he’s a better choice than Ryan GD Gosling. Imagine Batman with a thick Scottish accent, beating the crap out of Superman. It’s fun! Also – Jon Hamm is being considered? That’s interesting. That’s REALLY interesting.

I think I contracted scabies just by looking at those pictures.

  2. brin says:

Jon Hamm in a Bat suit?! Yessss!

  3. Sanaa says:

God No! Gerard Butler is a shitty std infected dbag that needs to keep the eff away from Batman. Same goes for the majority of these names. I mean Affleck??? Really?? Anyway most of the speculation is going to seem very off base when they eventually announce.

  4. Anna says:

Definitely Hamm over Butler. He already got that ‘power-broker with issues, hiding his past’ thing down.

  5. Sixer says:

I know this isn’t a popular view around these ‘ere parts, but I redeemed Gerry after his Aufidius with Fiennes. I thought he was great. So now, I suppose I’m just waiting for him to do something that annoys me again. But y’know, until then – I’m going to say it. His voice is hot, hot, hot.

    • Chickie Baby says:

Agreed! Gerry was good in Coriolanus, and he could be kinda fun as Batman. Plus, he needs to get into a big action flick as something other than the lead, and an ensemble might be a good platform for him to revive whatever is going on with his career.

  6. j.eyre says:

I don’t know, I kind of think he would be a good Batman too. He has the edge and the humor. Hmmm.

I am also interested in Jim Caviezel for the role. He also has the air of mystery Batman needs. Intriguing.

    • T.fanty says:

I see what you mean. Batman died at the end of the last movie and Caviziel has the charisma and talent of a corpse. Inneresting.

      • Masque says:

^^^This! I watch Person of Interest (because I like the show as a whole) and always think Jim is the weak link. He is so wooden and bland. Batman has charisma and charm so I can’t see Jim in that role.

That being said, although I like Gerry, I can’t imagine him in that role, either. Heck none of the suggestions are good.

  7. Elodie says:

Gosh he is a decent actor, it’s just his outside antics that overshadowed him badly and then some questionable choices films wise as well… buuut overall I don’t hate the actor and the Batman potential isn’t terrible news, rather interesting potential tbh.

  8. Dorothy#1 says:

Yes Butler! He would be awesome!!

  9. Lucrezia says:

Butler wouldn’t be too bad. But my preference is for Karl Urban. He nailed Dredd, proving he can act through a 3/4 face mask. I wonder why his name isn’t on the list? It was definitely being tossed around a few years ago, for the rumoured TV series.

  10. Ari says:

I can totally see Butler as Bruce Wayne and as Batman. He has done enough action movies that we know he has the moves. Jon Hamm? Really? lol.

  11. antisocial says:

I vote Butler or Caviezel – niether are a convenient/generic fit for the role and aside from their obvious hotness I think both could bring a unique twist to the classic character.
Butler is a little man whorey but I forget to judge him for it when he starts talking, or takes his shirt off, or stares smoldering/menacing into the distance.
Like a screen door in a hurricane 🙂 Both of ’em.

  12. Chicagogurl says:

No no no! Worst batman since Kilmer.

    • Mari says:

I think the majority of these guys had their publicists pay to have their name in the drawing. Beefs up press for them. It’s the way things work in that world.

    • Dommy Dearest says:

I think you mean since Clooney.

  13. Karen81 says:

My husband said Jon Hamm’s name a few years ago to be the next Batman. If he gets the part, maybe he should get a finders fee. 🙂

  14. Bird says:

He looks much better in these pics. I could kinda see him as Batman, but I feel like they’ll go with Ryan Gosling (which doesn’t really work for me, as much as I love him).

  15. Christina says:

ANYONE would be better than Affleck! Daredevil proved he cannot do Superhero. Besides I don’t think his giant ego could handle sharing starring role. He loves himself too much. He is a good actor sometimes…but he is not suave enough to pull of Bruce Wayne. Jon Hamm could do it in his sleep.

  16. Bored suburbanhousewife says:

He has undeniable sexual charisma on screen and off whatever his personal weaknesses.

He’s proven he can be a sexy masked mysterious figure with strange vulnerability in Phantom.

I can’t see Jon Hamm as anyone now but Don Apeer unfortunately. One of those indelible signature roles that can ultimately stunt an actors choices maybe.

  17. Kaitlin says:

I’ve always had a soft spot for him ever since Dear Frankie. I guess according to the Daily Mail he’s still a man whore, leaving a bar with a woman hiding on the floor of the cab. The pictures are pretty funny.

    • Claire says:

He was my absolute dream man in ‘Dear Frankie’. I couldn’t get over how gorgeous he was. Unfortunately now he seems a bit skeevy.

  18. EndoraB. says:

Hamm for the win. Can you imagine him in the batsuit? Oy. GB has lost alot of ground lately, especially after his on-again, off-again games in the last year with the fameho no one can stomach. It’s a huge turn-off.

  19. Samtha says:

What we’re seeing right now is every actor who wants the part leaking that they’re in the running for it.

Butler is interesting, though, because he does have ties to Zack Snyder thanks to 300. He actually is a really good actor; it’s just that his off-screen antics have overshadowed that.

  20. lolaluvsu says:

Jon Hamm…now that’s a Batman I can get behind or in front of.

  21. Bijlee says:

NO! All the actors so far I’m not okay with. I can’t see any of them as Batman. But yes, better hamm then butler.

  22. Rux says:

JHamm all the way! I think he would be perfect.

    • Olivia says:

Jon Hamm has it all. Voice, jawline, body. He’s perfection. The Butman has aged about 20 years in the last year. He doesn’t look like he has the energy for much these days. I agree that his choice to give that megafameho any publicity is a big turnoff, and makes me give him the side-eye even more than usual. He seems to be the only one that’s not skeeved out by her.

  23. JFerber says:

I think Ryan Gosling is an exceptionally versatile and talented actor, so I could see him in the role. After all, they went with a blonde James Bond. Also, Gerard looks too old for the role. Too much hard living, I guess.

  24. Bella Bella says:

    JON HAMM AS BATMAN!!

Omg, get me a fan… I’m having the Scarlet O’Hara vapors.

  25. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

God I hope not. Him in a suit spitting all over the place while he dully delivers lines. Ugh.

All of the other candidates I can’t get behind either. Maybe they *should* take a chance on Wes Bently. Or find some unknown.

  26. peaches mcdooby says:

god no, Butler has no chin

  27. Dommy Dearest says:

God please no. I’ll accept Jensen Ackles WAY before Butler. Please, just no. PLEASE. Also, negative on Hamm. He looks way too weathered to play Bruce Wayne.

  28. user00005 says:

Why not? He can do an American accent also. I hope this Bruce Wayne is more like the comics though – glamorous, donning tuxes etc.

Bale’s Bruce Wayne was too much of a commoner-looking. Really pedestrian.

  29. Miss M says:

What???!!! How did I miss this post? Well, I wasn’t online yesterday…

Anyway, I really like Caviezel and Butler, but I don’t know… Bale kind of ruined for anyone else…

ps: Who in their right minds would consider Ben Affleck? Did they watch The dare devil? lol

  30. kim says:

Seriously hope he’s not batman or I’ll shove a snickers up his nose. He sucks.

  31. Sara says:

I mean who really cares, he’s wearing a mask and a suit anyways, right??
