Michael Fassbender gets sexy with Penelope Cruz in new ‘Counselor’ clips: hot?

It’s been a while since I wrote any slash fiction about Javier Bardem. Back in the day, I had a thing about imagining Javi and Daniel Craig getting down together (on the hood of a car). That was before Skyfall. And while I still love the idea of Daniel and Javi enjoying each other’s bodies, I might have to think up some new scenarios for Javier and Michael Fassbender. Possibly costarring Brad Pitt and Penelope Cruz. All four actors (plus Cameron Diaz) star in Ridley Scott’s The Counselor. The Counselor will be released on October 25, and while I doubt it will be an awards season contender, I’m still really, really looking forward to it.

Yesterday, the studio released three new short clips from the film, featuring all of the primary actors (except for Cameron). Brad Pitt is trying to talk Fassbender out of making a deal. Javier is trying to mess with Fassbender’s mind. And Penelope Cruz is naked with Fassbender and she wants him to do things to her. So… yeah. Um. I’m going to be first in line for this movie. Here are the clips:

“Tell me something sexy” is my new happy place. I do have one minor complaint, which I may take back after I’ve seen more of the film – Fassy’s Southern-ish accent sounds incredibly fake. I usually think Fassy is really good at all sorts of accents, and I was impressed with his realistic flat American accent in Shame (although his character didn’t talk that much). But it’s something about a European trying to do a specific Southern accent or any kind of Southwestern drawl… it’s really difficult for them. I’ll wait and see.

….I was waiting to see if the new full-length trailer for The Counselor would be released this morning, but not yet. I’ll post it when it comes out!

UPDATE: Here’s the new trailer!

Finally, a sexy man I can salivate over.

Lord help me when this movie comes out, Fassy is too much but in a good way.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

      Plus a million, baby.

So much sexiness with this man.

You know who nailed the southern drawl, although Australian and not British or Irish? Ledger in Brokeback mountain.

I can only imagine how challenging it must be for those guys to try to get that accent right though.

      • UsedToBeLulu says:

Lord yes. Nailed it to the WALL. Tho it was not a Southern drawl. It was a Mid-Western Wyoming accent.

    • LadyMTL says:

I wish I could see these clips but alas, my office has blocked all videos. 🙁 I could use a good dose of Fassy and Bardem, they’re two of my all-time favourites / yummiest / etc-iest.

    • LilyRose says:

Such a good look for him here. And it seems they wrote Cruz’s pregnancy into the script. Don’t know why but that fact pleases me so much.

  2. chloe says:

I cannot wait for The Counselor, I’ve been missing Javier, dude needs to make more movies.

  3. Diana says:

    Delish…

  4. j.eyre says:

I know there are people here who do not like Javier but I think he is a brilliant actor.

    • Elodie says:

      Count me in dear.

Bardem >>>>>>>> the rest of The Counselor cast. He is SO good at playing crazy and complexed characters.

    • alexc says:

Anyone who doesn’t think Javier is a good actor should see Biutiful. He is truly amazing in that film. Love love love him.

      • LilyRose says:

Ugh that movie. I cried for days. Javier and the young actress who plays his daughter were so heart wrenching.

      • Sarah says:

Oh Lordy! I saw that movie when I was pregnant and I had to turn it off I was crying so hard!

I love Javier and Pe is awesome… Looking forward to this film.

  5. Maria says:

Andrew Lincoln does a fantastic accent, it does things to me, but Fassy is a whole other level…

I’m watching this for inappropriate reasons 🙂

  6. Elodie says:

Haha no if anything Fassbender is very talented but imo his weakness is he isn’t very good at doing accents, I remember watching him in TV shows here in the UK way back already (and he was waaayyyy hotter than he looks now, how strange) and it was too funny when he tried to do some Eastern European guy like OMG not convincing at all, and another TV series when he played a thug with a cockney accent I died and came back to life from laughter! In Inglorious Basterds it was such a strange British accent, a bit forced but then again perhaps Tarantino wanted the character to be a bit over the top like Brad Pitt’s. In 300 well I heard Irish, and in XMFC he totally went O’Magneto in the 20min end of the movie. And frankly in Shame he had the Irish popping up a lot hence why they came up with the explained background of an Irish family moving to the States etc. Prometheus oh well as he said inspired by Peter O’Toole so it made sense the mix… In TYAS so far we shall see, not just the trailer eh.

Anyway, back to The Counselor, I hope it’s going to be a good movie, as a Ridley Scott borderline fanatic, my fingers and toes and buttcheeks are crossed on this one.

    • Harriet says:

Wow that is some serious studying into his accent! I think there are some discrepancies in some of his movies but they aren’t so painfully bad they make me want to squirm. But boy do I agree he was hot on English TV…I remember the show HEX. Hotness!

      • Elodie says:

LOL it’s because I’ve lived with Irish and Scottish people for so long and all of them from different counties that even the slightest twirl I notice it, now add to that I have a natural knack for accents from all around the world. Fassbender at the early stages of his career in TV seriously his accents were cringe worthy, you should check it out, perhaps it’s online somewhere.

And yes he was the BOMB in Hex! Funny how the more he is known and he is still attractive but eh not as hot as he used to be…

    • Laura says:

ITA @Elodie. I thought he sounded super effing Irish in Shame!!! lol I really do not think that accents are his strong suit. Side note, can’t wait to hear if cumby can pull off the accent in August:Osage County.

    • Bijlee says:

Lol, homeboy can’t do accents for sh*t. The dude sucks at them. And my goodness his southern accent here is HORRIFIC!

  7. kiki says:

Thank you Kaiser, keep them coming and I will love you forever!

  8. Lucretia says:

The warm, velvety fog of Fassy’s voice! I needed to hear it. His voice is different in pitch and tone from David’s in Prometheus, which is really impressive.
I thought the accent here sounded slightly southern too, but fine–it shouldn’t be full-blown southern. Can’t wait for the full trailer!

  9. Sixer says:

    *thud*

I don’t usually purchase a first class ticket on the Fassy train, but I like the cut of his jib in those trailers.

  10. MeowuiRose says:

    Lol! Love the Diaz shade….tehehehe.

  11. Bijlee says:

Thank you Kaiser! Most Europeans can’t do a southern accent. They are terrible at it. I once saw Andrew Garfield in Doctor Who try to pull off a southern accent, ahhhhhh it was awful. It’s like he watched a bunch of awful 60s westerns.

The sneak peeks for this movie thus far are kind of cheesy. And I’m so tired of this hashtag thing. The third clip…I agree Fassy is sexy, but it’s still cheesy imo.

  12. Harriet says:

Just as a super over defensive Anglo/Euro here I just want to point out American attempts at our accents are equally atrocious! Ahem! 🙂

His English accent is quite good. As is his Scottish one. But I don’t think he’s been in enough movies as an American to get it right really.

    • Elodie says:

Funny thing is from what I have observed so far mainstream wise a majority of European actors can do the US accent very well whereas American can’t pull the European that well… but I could be wrong because the cinema world is so vast and there so many unknown actors yet worthy so it’s my limited observation only…

      • Bijlee says:

I feel like that ability is a bit overblown. There’s this underlying notion when people say this, that the European actors are more talented because they can pull of the “mainstream, standard, and proper” American accent.

I’m not shading the talent of the Anglo-european actors at all (I do think they are more talented). But their accent talents tend to be over applauded imo. American media is ubiquitous you know? Plus most of the British that do a good American accent want to work here, so they come into contact with a lot of American people and it’s easier since they have been typically in some form been exposed to American media and they probably work harder at trying to sound “American”. Whereas the Americans don’t care and you get crappy attempts.

But mostly I’m a butthurt southerner. I’m so annoyed at all the awful southern accents and tired that this “accent” talent is applauded when it’s pretty clear that it’s not well done at all. Case in point…Fassbender.

      • Elodie says:

@ Bijlee I totally get what you are saying dear, by observation it is from what all the films and performances of actors I have seen so far thus gathered, European actors performance were better mostly, but since again cinema is vast, the general public opinion might totally differ like yours, and indeed I can be wrong in the sense of my limited observation.

And oh well like I posted/developed above, Fassbender isn’t really good at doing accents, and with TYAS one of the most anticipated movies of this fall, aye let’s see how he is going to do, not holding my expectations high on that one, but then again it’s such a minor detail in regards of the film and cast eh.

  13. Algernon says:

Except he used his Irish accent in Shame. His character even talked about moving from Ireland at one point in the movie.

I’m always surprised because I expect his natural Irish accent to be heavy but it isn’t. It’s just a lovely little lilt. A lovely, sexy, little lilt…*died*

  14. Alexis says:

    I’m ready for this.

  15. Isla says:

I’m neutral when it comes to Fassbender’s hotness but goodness,he is pure sex in the clip with Penelope Cruz.

I laughed at “how do you know how to do that?” I’ve had disasters and A-MAZING experiences when it comes to “that”. Ladies, let them know when they’re doing it right AND wrong. He’ll thank you and you’ll thank yourself!

  16. vesta says:

I’m having contradictional feelings about this one.

I yearn to see Fassy…I think Ridley Scott might be able to underline his bad boy qualities almost too well. I shouldn’t want him, but I do.

Still, I don’t know, Bardem seems again like a caricature. He’s been great in Spanish films I’ve seen, but I don’t think I like that much his roles in English speaking films. Also I have almost a trauma or something about Bardem & Cruz in ‘Vicky Christina Barcelona’. That film felt just so artificial and cliche to me.

Brad’s acting very rarely warms me, but he’s not in a too big role.

Yeah I’m gonna see this. Blame Fassy!

  17. ClaireB says:

I don’t even need to watch the clip to scream “yes of course it is!”

  18. Lucretia says:

Here is the full trailer from youtube.

All I can say is–you guys up the comment stream can obsess on the fine points of accents all you want. I’m too busy enjoying the sight of Fassy after a long, long time!

    • Elodie says:

Eh… slight difference, we are not obsessing dear, we are enjoying discussing it.

    • Bijlee says:

It ruins the movie going experience and is utterly distracting for some of us who aren’t that into Fassy. Sorry love, fassy can’t do credible american let alone southern accents.

      • Lucretia says:

So, you and Elodie are double-teaming me! I sort of dread Fassy posts on this site. But let me sum up your essential points: he’s a lousy actor, used to be hot but isn’t anymore, his performances are so bad he makes you die laughing, and he destroys your movie-going experience. Got it.
        I respectfully disagree.

      • Elodie says:

Lucretia dear, with all due respect indeed no you didn’t get it and no offence but the “double team” and “dreading” are a tad much of a sensation. Please not only do not put words into my mouth but do no twist posts around and jump into erroneous conclusions onto the account of both people. Just because we had an exchange above with Bijlee doesn’t mean we agreed on all accounts, if you read closely we had opposite POV Europe vs US accents, thus do no extend nor exaggerate posts further more than they need to be. Re-read my posts, I precised it was in his earlier stages and yes he made me die from laughter for being so bad at it, and even so nowadays yes accents aren’t his forte, not a shade, just a fact like most other actors who have an Achilles heel, it doesn’t make them bad nor have I said Fassbender was a bad actor. So unless you haven’t checked his earlier filmo, I know what I’m talking about. And yes he was wayy hotter than that imo, I wasn’t asserting it on anyone. So please do re-read before making assumptions. And indeed I corrected your other erroneous interpretation of “obsession” with discussing because the latter is precisely what we were/are actively and respectfully doing so far. Thanks

      • Bijlee says:

LOL! Girl relax! I never said he was a lousy actor. I simply said he can’t do credible accents. At least not american ones. I’ve said before that I think he’s a good actor, the dude simply can’t do american accents well.

I also said none of that. You’re really grasping for straws with all that. Fassy’s been criticized for his accent abilities by alot of people. That is literally the ONLY thing I criticized him for in this post. I also stated that I’m a southerner and that I might be butthurt with the incredible number of lousy southern accents I hear all the time.

And Elodie and I didn’t jump you. She stated her opinion, I gave you mine. Simple.

  19. Amanda says:

His accent in Shame isn’t really American. He talks in this sort of half-Irish, half-American accent and about midway through the movie they explain it away by saying his character had moved to the United States from Ireland when he was younger. It seemed more like a lazy excuse to keep him from having to speak with a convincing American accent. He’s a great actor, and great with English accents in particular, but I have yet to hear him talk in a convincing American voice.

  20. I Choose Me says:

I’ve been bad…ish. Does that count?

Hate those sunglasses in the header pic but that gingery beard makes up for it.

Can’t wait to see this movie.

  21. dcypher1 says:

Ewan McGregor in big fish did a really good Southern accent in that movie and he’s scottish probably the hardest accent to work with.

  22. nikko says:

Three of my favorites. And Fassy looks to sexy. I’ll be 2nd in line behind you.

  23. DAFFY says:

OKAY, That just woke me up. cant wait for October

actors thoh, Penelope looks good, but thoses scenes with her huband in the movie??

  24. LilyRose says:

    IT’S CHRISTMAS!*

Cumby, Hiddles, Fassy and Colbert posts in one day. It’s like the Tooth Fairy and The Easter Bunny went on a bender and this is what it brought us.

*(Or your preferred holiday, keeping it inclusive)

  25. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

*Giddy* I can not wait to see this movie. It looks good.

  26. vv says:

Meh. I don’t think it looks that great.

  27. Leah says:

Fassbender and Bardem together is acting olympics!

  28. ChocoChipDstryr says:

Javier Bardem looks like Sonic the Hedgehog.

  29. Blue says:

Everything Fassbender does is sexy so I loved the clip between him and Penelope. I absolutely can’t wait to see this film! Fassy can do no wrong.

  30. Leslilly says:

Southern accent?! I hear absolutely zero southern accent from
Fassbender. Are you certain he’s even trying for one? I’m not convinced he is.
