Pop stars and their everchanging hairstyles are quite nearly exhausting, and I’m still trying to get into the groove of being back home after a four-day “vacation,” so go easy on me for this lazy observation. Rihanna is in New York City for a couple of reasons, and one of them is to walk the streets while modelling her new River Island line. Also, she’s been Instagramming the above outfit in various capacities including but not limited to hanging out with Jay-Z. Because if you wear that hideous ensemble, Jay will want to hang with you too. And if you attract attention to yourself by screaming “back the f— up“ at a crowd of fans and paparazzi, that’s even better. As Rihanna says in the linked video, “I’m going crazy here,” which is about how I feel with her latest hair morph, a.k.a., “The Rat-Tailed Mullet.”
This is a pretty hideous ‘do, right? I guess Rihanna quickly tired of the curly and cute look and decided to trash things up. Miley Cyrus has also sported a rat tail in recent days, so I guess this is a trend now, and it’s very strange. It’s not without any sense of fondness that I make these remarks either. I mean, my baby brother had a rat tail in kindergarten … back in the late 1980s.
Ultimately, I guess Rihanna can pull off almost every hairstyle simply because she is confident in her own looks. She does trashy just as well as she does glamour, but it just so happens that she chooses trashy almost every time.

I love it on her. I’m too old to wear it (since I was already alive when it came around the first time. That’s my rule. If you were old enough to rock it once, do NOT do it again because the “irony” aspect is not possible) I think she looks super cute. Lots of girls – around here (SF) esp cute, fashionable dykes, have this going on.

Much agreed. Rihanna lost contact with reality a long time ago. It’s less concerning that her hair is a mess so much as *she* is a mess. She’s deeply arrogant and out of touch. Ok. I must be getting old because half the shit I see on young celeb women and even young women on the street is FUG on every level. Mismatched prints, ugly high waisted jeans, skirts on shorts on people they look terrible on, awful, awful and just effin’ ugly. It’s like grunge when awful or something or trying to mix the 80’s and the 90’s and just failing when attempting.
