Tom Hiddleston signs on for Benedict Cumberbatch’s role in ‘Crimson Peak’

A few weeks ago, Benedict Cumberbatch dropped out of Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak unexpectedly. He had been attached to the film for months, and it seemed like just another great role for him. I made a listicle for all of the reasons I could come up with for Cumberbatch’s withdrawal – and I’m now starting to think that he dropped out because Brad Pitt was talking him into doing The Lost City of Z. But some of you suggested that Cumby’s real reason for leaving the project was so his little budget-Batch, Tom Hiddleston, could take his place. Yeah. You Cumberbitches were right!

Thor” actor Tom Hiddleston will replace Benedict Cumberbatch in Legendary’s horror pic “Crimson Peak,” helmed by Guillermo del Toro.

Cumberbatch left in the middle of August and Legendary worked fast to find his replacement. Hiddleston joins Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska in the pic.

Plot details are unknown as del Toro and Lucinda Coxon work through a rewrite on a script del Toro and Matthew Robbins originally penned.

Legendary will produce and be a participating financing partner on the movie, with Universal Pictures retaining an option to finance at a later date. The film is set to begin shooting in February 2014.

[From Variety]

Here’s the part that struck me: “Plot details are unknown as del Toro and Lucinda Coxon work through a rewrite on a script del Toro and Matthew Robbins originally penned.” I really do think THAT is the reason why Cumberbatch left – the script was/is still a mess, plus Brad Pitt wanted him for another movie, plus the Hiddles thing. So what do we think of Hiddleston gladly taking Cumberbatch’s crumbs? Well, Hiddles thinks it’s brilliant, and he’s already spoken to his Big Brother Batch:

Tom Hiddleston is taking over Benedict Cumberbatch’s role in Guillermo Del Toro’s gothic romance film Crimson Peak, it was announced on Friday, but there’s no bad blood between the two English stars.

“The thing is we’re really good friends, and as soon as Guillermo called, I called Benedict and I said this is happening, and he was like, ‘Amazing!’” Hiddleston told BuzzFeed on Friday, soon after the news was announced. “So, I had his blessing.”

Once Cumberbatch — whose exit from the movie was announced in late August — gave the thumbs up, it was an easy decision.

“As these things do, they sent me the script about two weeks ago and it was a very new draft,” Hiddleston explained. “I know Mia [Wasikowska], who I’ll be playing with very closely, and I know Jessica Chastain very well. I’ve met Guillermo before. And we are all admirers of each others’ stuff. And everyone said yes! I’m really, really excited about it. I’ll be shooting here in Toronto in February.”

Hiddleston is in Toronto at the moment to promote another gothic romance, Jim Jarmusch’s film Only Lovers Left Alive, which co-stars Wasikowska, Tilda Swinton, and Anton Yelchin. Having worked with both Cumberbatch (on Star Trek Into Darkness) and Hiddleston, Yelchin — who was sitting next to the latter star during the interview — was asked which Englishman had a crazier fan base.

Yelchin played it safe, punting on the eternal Hiddlestoners vs. Cumberbitches question.

“Oh I don’t know,” he said, shrugging as Hiddleston laughed. “It’s funny, I missed all of Star Trek press because I was working so it’s hard for me to say. it’d be a funny battle, you leading one legion and Benedict the other.”

“We rode into battle together once upon a time,” Hiddleston said, “in War Horse.”

[From Buzzfeed]

“We’re really good friends”…? ORLY? Poor Hiddles. I guess Cumberbatch comes out of this looking like the wise older brother and Hiddles is the over-eager puppy who couldn’t wait to tell his super-special BFF that he scored the part! Who knows what their real relationship is like though. Maybe they really are tight. Oh, and I can’t wait to hear from Tom how this Crimson Peak role is super-Shakespearean.

  1. Paula says:

All of my friends predicted this the day after Benedict dropped out.

  2. Original A says:

They are friends in real life. You know Hiddles is going to try and score with Jessica Chastain.

    • kaisei says:

I doubt he will but in case he’ll fall flat, Jessica is in a relationship.

    • Abby says:

Lol I doubt she’ll respond to his advances. They are quite opposite.

Many Cumby fans were hoping for Bendict and Jessica to hook up. They would have looked cute I feel.

    • Samtha says:

Wasn’t there already a rumor about them? Like a year ago?

    • Flower says:

Nah. Jesssica is way out of his league, besides she’s dating some Italian prince or count or something who is gorgeous.

      • Lil says:

Her boyfriend is HOT. I dont know why hiddleston fans keep thinking she is available or interested in him? Her boyfriend is way hotter.

  3. T.fanty says:

Love the pic of Big bro Cumby! That’s before he gets drunk and starts giving Tommyanne advice on da ladieeez.

Seriously, though, however this happened, it’s good for our little HiddleyAnna. Good job, Tallulah.

    • Anna says:

I think it’s remarkable that career-wise, a BBC series proved to be a stronger launching pad than Marvel for these two rather similarly-profiled Brit thespians.

      • Sixer says:

I was thinking just that the other day, Anna. I wonder if it comes down to acting style – TommyAnne’s is much more presentational than Cumby’s. Good for villainhood but perhaps less friendly for character roles insofar as Hollywood is concerned?

      • Kaye says:

        @Anna
That is very interesting isn’t it? I still am godsmacked that Cumby has become soooo big just on a show. I mean it has happened before I guess. I’m still just surprised you know. Its like his popularity from Sherlock is on par with Doctor Who popularity.

      • Anna says:

Cumby is proving himself a viable as a headliner with Sherlock, the Assange movie and also arguably Star Tre – let’s be honest, ppl who went to see ST for an actor werent going for Pine. With Thor/Avengers, yes Loki is a draw, but so is Thor proper, plus obvs Iron Man and the gang. And as a character/supporting actor as well! Hiddles so far is only carrying his Shakespearian plays.

      • Lindy79 says:

I think some of it has to do with their teams. Wasn’t there reports about how TH jumped ship right after Avengers to a bigger US agency which kind of backfired. I also think apart from OLLA he had pretty much nothing concrete booked after Avengers filmed, a couple of indies which were then cancelled.
BC had Orange/Fifth Estate/12 years, all big potential movies with solid casts, lined up after he filmed ST (so there hadn’t even been an press etc.). He’s also said himself, he has small parts in two of them but the surrounding cast is amazing, please don’t kill me Celebitches but I kind of get the impression from Hiddles that he wants/wanted to be leading man or nothing and I just don’t think he’s there.

      • T.fanty says:

Yes and no. Loki hits once. On a TV series, you get a slow burn building. Sherlock has been around for four or so years. Plus, the Moffatt link gives it direct access to the Doctor Who fans, and coming off Tennant, there are a lot of them. It’s a bit apples and oranges to me.

      • Anna says:

@Fanty – respectfully, I will disagree on Sherlock. This isnt a 24-episode season TV. Two seasons, 6 episodes total. That’s hardly a lot of exposure. I could potentially argue against the Moffiat advantage bc for example I have never even checked out a single ep of Doctor, so spill-over effect might not necessarily work.

Compare this to the Marvel Machine, with its year-long promo campaigns, panels, merchandizing, cross-branding with other heros, not to mention we’re already looking at 3 Loki films = that’s the hours as the series, even if Loki isnt in every shot.

      • T.fanty says:

True, but as an actor, there’s more to work with. There is room to grow and Sherlock is tailored to Cumby’s strengths. It’s establishing him as an actor, not so much as a star.

I also like Lindy’s point about representation. Cumby’s also made some smart choices and been quite diverse (Starter for Ten, Third Star, Stuart, Frankenstein). He’s been making a lot of quiet connections for years and laying a really solid foundation as a character actor. Tom’s aiming for leading man and there’s just less quality work out there for someone who hasn’t made it yet.

      • Anna says:

I absolutely agree on representation as well.

      • Green Girl says:

I am with T.Fanty (re: representation). Sherlock is definitely a way for BC to showcase his talents. He can do light comedy, drama, be the leading man, etc.

His pre-Sherlock works are fairly diverse, too, and he’s not afraid to be supporting actor. That says to me – a non-Hollywood type – that he can check his ego at the door. And that might appeal to a casting agent.

    • Lucrezia says:

Anna: by “launching pad” are you thinking of fans, or for directors?

Because I think it’s still a little too early to compare how directors have reacted to Loki/Sherlock. It’s not quite fair because Sherlock came out a year before Thor, 2 years before Avengers. So even if directors reacted equally well to both roles, Benedict’s “wave” would obviously be a year or two in front of Tom’s.

Right now Tom’s not getting anywhere near the amount of work Ben got a year ago, but I think he still has another 6 months – maybe a year – before you can say he’s completely missed the boat.

      • Anna says:

I’m talking the professional machine. So a combination of the project, its ownership, and people at the helm.

      • Anna says:

Also, I dont think he missed the boat, but I think he (with his profile, talent and platform) should be aboard a bigger one.

      • T.Fanty says:

Chiming in to say that I certainly don’t think he’s missed the boat. Personally, I just think he has to put in a few more years on mid-level projects. Loki has been great for him, and he should be getting projects like Crimson Peak to be building a platform of solid work he can acquire a long-term reputation with.

Not applicable to the ladies above, but I tire of people insinuating that his career is in the gutter. THOUSANDS of actors would kill for what he has, and he’s actually doing very well. If this is as bad as his career gets, he can still hold his head high.

      • Anna says:

@Fanty – I agree fully in terms of ‘career gutter.’ For me this is a comparative case study.

      • Sixer says:

I know I can be a Tommy-naysayer, but I do recall reading somewhere that he’d deliberately kept 2013 quiet and I also remember thinking “that’s because you think the leading man offers are going to come rolling in”. I do think Tommy wants to be a leading man more than he wants to be an actor and I do think he made a mistake for this year. And if I’m going to continue overanalysing, I think that he didn’t get The Crow was big ol’ disaster in his mind (if not in ours). But I have every confidence that he is a person who learns from his mistakes.

All that naysaying said and despite my bitchery, I agree with my betters hereabouts – he’s doing pretty well by the standards of his peers, this is a good casting, and I hope it goes well for him.

  4. Sixer says:

    1) Glad PuddleTom has finally been cast in something that will probably happen. Hope it goes well for him.

    2) Don’t like the look of the film. At all.

    3) Don’t think Benny had owt to do with PuddleTom’s casting but do think it’s becoming increasingly clear PuddleTom is second/third/fourth on casting lists. Never first.

    • T.fanty says:

Bloody hell Sixer. I finished Luther last night. I have *so* much to say but I PM with a couple of ladies on here who haven’t seen it yet so I can’t. Later, let’s pick a dull thread and go there to talk about it. Maybe Jennifer Love Hewitt.

      • Sixer says:

Ok! Leave me a comment on there and I’ll catch it (but detailed remarks later as I’m half-working). We could also raise a glass to Famous Seamus, which I’ve been meaning to suggest to you.

      • T.Fanty says:

Okay. Same here, work-wise, but Luther left me feeling a bit ragey (although hats-off to the scene with the hanging man and braying mob) and I need to discuss it.

And let’s stand in an earthy bog and raise a Pervy Tombanger to Heaney. I’m actually teaching Beowulf this term.

      • Sixer says:

        (Ok).

Bottoms up! He could never be a Fizzy Hiddles.

I’d love to attend the class! Actually, I run a poetry club at the school where I’m governor and I’m trying to come up with a good format for a Heaney session. Suggestions welcome (bearing in mind I’m covering kids from 11 right up to 18).

      • Lindy79 says:

Sorry to butt in here but I saw the word Luther and my ears pricked up.

The first episode really freaked the crap out of me and I don’t scare easily. I also felt very ragey at the end of the series.

      • T.fanty says:

Okay, assuming the JLH post doesn’t gather steam, let’s meet there around 1ishEST/6GMT

ETA:Sixer. What do you mean by format?

      • Sixer says:

        (Ok).

I need to get them interested, so it’s not just content, or picking a poem and talking about it. It’s drawing contemporary comparisons and suchlike. We snitch the thing Akala does with giving them snippets of rap and Shakespeare and getting them to say which is which, or um… find technology imagery in current music lyrics and then point out the same thing in the metaphysical poets. That kind of thing.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I haven’t seen Luther yet, but please don’t leave me out on Famous Seamus!

      • Lindy79 says:

On the topic of Seamus, had to share this with you guys. I was at a music/literary festival just outside Dublin on the day he died and obviously he was the topic of conversation in a lot of the spoken word tents.
It was really touching and very moving to just sit there and absorb people talking about him, how he influenced them and sharing/reading his work especially having grown up in Dublin, he was obviously a huge factor to anyone like me who took an interest in studying English.

      • T.Fanty says:

Goodness, I remember my first copy of his poetry – it was one of those little Faber and Faber books with the kind of textured cover that I hope they still have. It was The Whitsun Weddings. I had no idea who he was, but bought the book because I’d loved the poetry anthology he’d edited with Ted Hughes, The Rattle Bag. I just remember being amazed that the ordinary could be so striking. The simplicity of “Days” just broke my heart.

      • Sixer says:

For me, it’s always been the connection to Old English and other (sometimes historical) varieties of English. That he could refine all that knowledge and combine the energy of speech too – oh, I don’t know. I might snivel if I carry on.

  5. Nancy says:

Budget Batch? Lmao ok who started that term because that is funny.

    • ds says:

Whole situation is so funny I can’t believe it’s actually true.

    • Green Girl says:

I got a good chuckle out of that, too. If you were TH, though, would you rather be known as “Budget Batch” or “The other one”?

  6. Jessica says:

So happy for Tommyanne. It gives him something else to do besides being the cosplay king for Loki.

  7. Miss Jupitero says:

I am very glad that he finally has a serious film role. Another Pixie Hollow gig would be just too much to bear. He has something for 2014!

But yeah, the script. I suspect that is the real issue.

    • JLK says:

The film he is currently premiering at Toronto is a serious film, by an acclaimed director.

    • Sixer says:

JLK – it is. But the thing that’s been worrying people hereabouts is the lack of casting (and some bad luck re shelved projects). OLLA was filmed in 2012. As was Thor 2. TommyAnne will have nothing “proper” coming out in 2014. Now, at least, there’s likely to be something for 2015.

  8. Winston says:

Oh god you know Chastain is in this right? Can you say more PR stunts for Tommys people. I guarantee atleast 1 rumor of a Hiddleston/Chastain story.

    • Lindy79 says:

I noticed this line straightaway: “and I know Jessica Chastain very well. I’ve met Guillermo before. And we are all admirers of each others’ stuff.”

How well can he know her? To my knowledge they haven’t worked together, ever. The only way he would know her is from meeting at awards etc. so realistically, wouldn’t it be more accurate to say “I’ve met her”. The admirers of each others stuff line made me wince a little.

      • Abby says:

Lol my thoughts exactly Lindy…also the emphasis on ‘very well’ (I know I am nitpicking).

During their rumours I remember Jessia saying she has only met Tom once and doesn’t even know him that well. Correct me if I am wrong

      • Sixer says:

I did laugh at “we are all admirers of each other’s stuff” – typical Puddletom humble-bragging, as Kaiser would say.

  9. mended says:

they really are friends in real life and have been known to go to concerts together. this is really an issue between the fans and is frankly quite lame.

    • Londongal says:

TOTALLY agree. I’m a card carrying Hiddles fan and I don’t remotely understand the hate. Careers follow different trajectories anyway, remember when Colin Farrell was flavour of the month? Batch is currently flavour of the month and then his star will have a wane and Hiddles a.n other will get a go. Different actors, different blokes, different looks, defferent styles, the end! Apples and Oranges. Personally, I prefer apples. (Hids.)

      • Abby says:

Lets see when does Hiddles become the favour of the month.

Oi I want Cumby as apples and Hiddles as oranges (cz I like apples more lol)

  10. Lindy79 says:

I doubt he dropped out in specifically to give the part to Tom and that’s a little insulting to him to suggest that. Given the workaholic reports on Cumby, if he really felt passionate about a role there is no way he would give the part up especially because he feels sorry for a mate.

It happens all the time in productions, people leave for various reasons (I completely agree that he got a more concrete offer from Pitt and maybe had more faith in that project), and are replaced. Seeing them in War Horse interviews and photoshoots, they did seem like they really liked each other and are friends.

It’s good news for Hiddles so good luck to him, although it has to sting that people are suggesting that he’s getting scraps from more in demand actors (even though it does seem that way)

    • Tish says:

He has already confirmed his involvement for the Z movie.

There were also posters on IMDB saying that the script was on Demonoid years back and it was a mess. Wasikowska’s character also has the biggest part in the story. Maybe Cumby doesn’t want to do the ensemble thing again. “Z” seems to be a lead in a bigger film anyway.

      • RPG says:

“Wasikowska’s character also has the biggest part in the story.”

Let’s hope so. She has proved she’s MORE than capable of carrying a picture.

  11. Elodie says:

Well… can’t stand the Hiddleston for various reasons such as his fandom indulgence but I really don’t get why they are “pitted” against each other here or by their fandoms… yes to each their opinion on the matter and it may seem fun but frankly like any other actor, if Hiddleston didn’t fit the part he wouldn’t have been picked. So why the whole “he gets the leftovers” from Fassbender and Cumberbatch? I mean hello Jim Jarmusch? Del Toro? If I had the opportunity to work with either of them, I SO would. Many actors drop a project and other replace them, regardless of those actors relationships, friendships etc. If the 1st choice doesn’t work, well one must come with a plan b; it happens in many circumstances right?
I know everyone is sharing their various opinions here, so I’m sharing mine : it’s up to the casting directors to make their choice.

    • Sixer says:

I’m inclined to think it’s reasonable to say that TommyAnne gets other actor’s leftovers – but I don’t think it’s right to imply that’s because the other actors “let” him have them. It’s just that TommyAnne is everybody’s second or third choice for a role, so if someone else drops out, he goes further up the list.

But yes – work is work. Good people are good people. Actors need work and want work with good people, however they get it.

Once the film is out, nobody will care Benny was once going to be in it.

      • Elodie says:

Eh… I get what you are saying dear, but to my knowledge it happened only twice so when the list gets long then it shall be indeed debatable, at least to me. It’s not like he failed at many castings and got unlucky and so forth. So perhaps people enjoy sensationalizing it because they are friends/mates/whatever? Still, I stand by what I wrote.

…can’t believe I’m defending that twerp but yeah work wise in his case, there are no leftovers, there are other choices when the initial one couldn’t happen, whether it’s him and many many many other much bigger known actors; it’s not like he’s such a Z-lister then yeah the casting directors had no choice whatsoever and other desperation, it’d have been something else.

    • Melanie says:

Agreed. It’s insulting to suggest Cumberbatch gave him the role as if he didn’t win it on his own. That’s not how the film industry works, unless Cumby was the producer.

And these two actually seem to be friends in real life so I don’t think he’s name dropping here

    • Tish says:

Aren’t the posters here just being joke-y about that “letting him have my role because he has no work”? It’s just for the LOL’s and the Budget Batch.

I do agree though that it’s evident that Fassy and Cumby are definitely higher than Hiddles when castings like these happen. It only happened twice publicly but Fassy and Cumby have accepted roles that also fit Hiddles. That’s not the only factor in casting though but there is definitely a priority list from casting directors.

  12. Lisa. Lisa says:

Yes Benedict and Tom are real friends in real life. When they worked on war horse together they became friends. Now what I really want is for the both of them to be in a movie together again!

  13. Mia 4S says:

Something is off with this movie. I can’t put my finger on it, but hearing about script rewrites is not at all surprising. I’ll be surprised if it goes ahead as scheduled. However, if the push it back, they’ll likely lose Chastain because she is in such demand. Then it becomes a “troubled production” which the press just loves!

  14. Tish says:

He just told ET Canada that Cumby is “one of his best friends” and that they “spent a summer with Mr Spielberg and became friends for life.” HAHAHAHA!

He also said that “we live around the corner from each other in London”. This is hilarious! Hampstead is the place for Tumblr, apparently.

    http://www.etcanada.com/blogs/etc_32201/why-tom-hiddleston-and-benedict-cumberbatch-are-best-buds/

    • kaisei says:

Doesn’t he say pretty much the same stuff for Hemsworth?

      • Tish says:

Actors say such things all the time. It’s just that “friends for life!” is a very Hiddles thing to say.

    • T.Fanty says:

Yes, but in Hiddleyanna’s defense, all actors pull that nonsense. Cumby can’t mention another actor without adding the caveat “who is a very good friend of mine.”

Plus, there are few pictures of HiddleyBatch out and about together at different times. I’d buy that there’s some kind of friendship there and put the rest down to typical thespian hyperbole.

    • Melanie says:

LOL that mile from Chalk Farm to Hampstead is full of celebrities. Wish I could afford to live up there.

  15. Yorkshire Town says:

Both of these guys have very rabid fan bases. Both fan bases are annoying at times but I find Toms fan base to be much more annoying. This could be the reason why there is some sort of tension against some fans. But I do know the majority of fans love these two both. Maybe the media also adds to the vs. Thing also? I mean how many times do we hear about other celebs who are similar get put against each other. Rihanna vs Beyonce. Even though they are friends in real life their fans like to battle back and forth.

  16. STFU says:

I cannot stand Tom Hiddleston or his cray cray fans but this is good news for him….I guess.

  17. Evey says:

Oh great this guy again? Now we are gonna hear more try hard interviews and more from his mental fans in the future.

    • kaisei says:

given he didn’t shoot a single thing this year, next year he won’t get much media attention and hopefully for him he’ll be too busy working.

  18. Abby says:

Lol Kaiser’s ORL?? cracked me up. They might be friends but not that close as Hiddleston is making it out to be.

  19. Jewels says:

I am really tired of hearing about this loki guy. I am so pleased that he won’t be in Avengers 2. Also why are people hyping him up to be some sort of heartthrob? He is no Zac Efron or Henry Cavill. Report more on Henry Cavill. He is the real heartthrob. Not this posh lanky brit.

    • Elodie says:

Keep Zac, I get the Henry C. 😉

    • Feebee says:

Doesn’t the heartthrob need to do or say something interesting to be reported on? Otherwise they’re only good for…… which reminds me – what’s happened to our hot guy Friday posts?

    • Tippy says:

Yeah I don’t get it either. All he is known for is loki. I surely don’t see an attraction. He is so, so plain. Nothing interesting about him.

    • Adrien says:

I like him as an actor but I don’t find him hot. He looks like a goofy version of Ben Linus of Lost (Michael Emerson?). Especially as Loki.

  20. Feebee says:

Another gothic role…. so more long black hair? I hope the role and movie is good for him. I agree with those who mention his team (and vs BC’s). It’s not just about the ‘talent’, a lot of people go into the making of one person’s success (or failure). The right people around you make a huge difference.

He does seem to step in for other actors but if he wasn’t good enough he wouldn’t be. There’s a long list of movies that had ‘second choice’ leads who knocked it out of the park.

  21. MissMary says:

I think the whole “pitted against each other” thing is pure fandom flail and media manufactured b.s. They are friends IRL and really, how surprising is it that the casting team approached someone with a similar background to BC for the role he abandoned? They wanted vaguely posh British dude, they went to vaguely posh British dude. And they are both great actors, so it’s not like they tossed a bone to Corey Feldman and cast him in some sort of stunning twist.

  22. Elodie says:

And on an OT note, where are Idris Elba TIFF pics?…

  23. Baby says:

I really thought you guys were being funny about the whole BudgetBatch thing but now I’m beginning to see it.

  24. Samtha says:

This is not a story. Casting changes are as common as herpes in Hollywood.

    • vixo says:

Amem ! Just imagine if the internet existed in the 70s, Pacino, Hoffman and De Niro changing roles constantly. Can you imagine their stans creating all these conspiracies ??

  25. Browniecakes says:

The tidal wave of TH press is just off in the distance. The buzz around TH for Thor The Dark World is going to be Loki at San Diego Comic Con all over again. Will his fanbase increase – definitely. Will it get him real roles – maybe. We’re no where close to hearing the end of TH for awhile. It’s just starting.

    • Abby says:

I hope Hiddles get more roles after thor 2 but if you check IGN comments (website for geeks) many are sick of Loki and want him dead.

I hope after Thor 2 Tom never touches another Loki role.

I’m happy for this!! Love me some Hiddles.

But somebody pointed out how he switched agencies right after avengers i think and it backfired…which I agree 100%. Why leave the people that got you Midnight in Paris,War Horse etc?

Hopefully this is a good turning point cuz I love him and his nerd Shakespeare ways!

  27. Mary-Rose says:

I hope this film is actually going to happen for TommyAnne. He deserves some luck and I bet it’s not nice people bringing up Cumberbatch all the time for that role too.

  28. EscapedConvent says:

I wouldn’t make such a thing about Hiddles getting the Batch’s crumbs. Actors replace other actors all the time, ho hum.

It sounds to me like this particular role will fit Tommy better than Cumby actually.

  29. Angel May says:

Everybody give Thomas some slack, he’s about 5 years younger than Cumby & Fassy. He’s only been in the big leagues for two years or less, and he’ll always have his hardcore Shakespeare cred to fall back on. I could see him having a career similar to Ralph Fiennes’.

    • Lindy79 says:

Thats made me love that clip even more which I did not think was possible.

    • TheyPromisedMeBeer says:

So i watched that gif, and it made me think of the Bad NFL Lipreading video and now I’ve just spent twenty minutes that i could be showering/getting ready for job #2 laughing my ass off at a youtube video, while craving a chocolate chip cookie the whole time.

There’s no point to this story. I just thought you needed to know.

      • j.eyre says:

I knew I loved you for more than just your body! NFL Bad-Lipping Reading is played weekly here.

“I found Fido. Hey you guys, I found Fido”

        “An orange peanut?”

Its almost as good and Herman Cain Bad Lip Reading.

      • T.Fanty says:

If it’s a ProBeer story, I always need to know.

  30. St says:

Do their fans fight or something? Is there like competition who is hotter or something? I never saw the difference. I like them both equally. I can’t even tell who I like more. I like that Tom finally has other big movie outside of Thor. He needs one. He is everywhere, everyone like him. he has his fan girls, army of fans. Yet Benedict has movie after movie and Tom has only Thor 2, Muppets and that vampire movie that none of us will probably see. Tom must audition more for big movies.

  31. Portia says:

I’m going to hold out on jumping for joy until they actually start shooting. Apart from OLLA, every time Hiddleston bags a lead the movie gets shelved. Then again I’m not sure if this role is a lead or supporting so maybe it won’t fall through.

It doesn’t sound good if the actors are signed on but the script is still being written and rewritten for an original project. If it was a tentpole, I’m sure it would get made either way and soon at that. But who knows with this one. And who knows if the big names (Mia and Jessica) will still be attached by the time the script is finally done and shooting rolls around. Charlie Hunnam just signed onto 50 shades too. So basically apart from Hiddleston, everybody seems to have other jobs lined up.

I wish TH good luck but yeah, totally going to wait until actual shooting commences to get excited about his career going places.

  32. Flower says:

Hope this film goes through, regardless of it being Cucumber’s scraps. Nothing came of Capa, nor Black Wings nor that porn-tsar he was supposed to play.

As someone said, this is only the beginning of the Fall barrage of Hiddles stuff…long way to go.

How well does he know Jessica anyway? I mean I still think that’s pretty lame that he left it up to her to curb the rumors from a few months back, he could have just told the daily fail that it wasn’t true. But seeing as the rumor supposedly started with Luke, I understand why he said zip.

    • Lucrezia says:

Why do people think the rumour started with Luke? (You’re not the first I’ve seen say that.)

As far as I can tell, the argument is that it got Tom some coverage, therefore it was planted by Luke, but it really doesn’t seem to be his style. Most of his clients (Hiddles, Emma Watson, Cat Deely) seem to keep their relationships private, rather than hawking them for publicity.

What I think happened is that Chastain and “mystery boyfriend” were seen canoodling at a concert. Mystery guy was tall, with brunette curls. Photos were blurry as hell: it could’ve been Hiddles, could’ve been Jason Clarke … in truth it was the fashion designer guy, but it took her a while to come out and say who she was dating. I assumed Daily Mail saw the photos of Chastain at the concert, mistook the guy for Hiddles, then made up some BS. No PR agents involved.

I’d really like to think that PR agents would come up with something more believable. (The DM story was obviously rubbish because it said she’d flown to England to meet Tom’s parents: completely impossible since she was doing 8 shows a week on Broadway.) On the other hand, PR agents would like us to believe that Taylor Swift was dating Jake Gyllenhaal, so perhaps I’m setting the bar too high.

  33. lc says:

This movie is supposed to have raunchy scenes. Maybe we’ll finally see the Hiddleconda? In the name of art of course.

  34. Mary-Rose says:

Who gets that feeling that TommyAnne has caught on to the fact that ‘creepy PR’ guy likes him? He doesnt seem so friendly with him anymore

  35. Marrissa says:

I swear to the acting gods this hiddlestoner guy is so damn annoying. Ugh. Go away already.

  36. Browniecakes says:

A fan picture from Thur.’s audience of the screening of Only Lovers Left Alive at the TIFF sure didn’t show many seats filled. I guess BC’s The Fifth Estate was the draw. Too bad they ran pretty much opposite each other that night and the besties couldn’t catch each other’s films. But maybe TH can catch BC’s other two films there.
