Anna Nicole’s funeral dress

Anna Nicole was buried in a gown that would be at home on a Barbie doll. I got a lot of heat for calling her funeral, which featured a pink velvet covering on her casket festooned with feathers and ribbons, “tacky.” (I took it back and admitted to it so don’t bash me on that same point again please.) This dress isn’t tacky, it just looks like it’s made for a young girl, which was to her taste. She was filmed speaking baby-talk, so that’s probably what she was into. People commented that it’s what she wanted and that it’s a funeral, after all. I get your point and am contrite. (I’m not a hypocrite, though, and I didn’t like her when she was alive and my opinion hasn’t changed now that she died. I do hope she rests in peace and no one deserves to die young.)

Us Weekly has the details of the gown, which she had custom made in a prescient or wishful moment:

Anna Nicole Smith’s funeral was modeled after a wedding, right down to her ball gown.

“Every stitch was a labor of love,” says Beverly Hills designer Pol’ Atteu, who crafted the dress that Smith wore for her burial on March 2. “My tears are all over that dress.”

The pink and ivory gown (with a matching tiara) was made of French lace, pearls and Swarovski crystals and took a day and a half to make.

The heart design and embroidered silk flowers over the bust symbolize Smith’s devastation over son Daniel’s death, “She died of a broken heart.”

And O.J. Simpson wants everyone to know that he, too, slept with Anna Nicole. According to a guy named Norm Pardo, who is ostensibly O.J.’s buddy since he took a lot of video of him, the double-muderer claimed he slept with Anna back in 1994 when they were filming Naked Gun 331/3 together. Of course O.J. had to throw his hat into the ring for paternity of Dannielynn, and supposedly said he has “slow-moving” sperm so she could be his. He then made a completely tasteless joke saying that if Dannielynn was his that Ron Goldman (the father of the young man he murdered) would try to sieze her money. That’s great, O.J. You should be in jail awaiting appeal now, so STFU. Be grateful you breathe fresh air every day.

Thanks to US Weekly for the gown pictures.

No kidding! OJ doesn’t get to make jokes anymore. No one likes him and he needs to shut up and be grateful. Hearing his snarky little comments about that (actually)INNOCENT and BEAUTIFUL baby just really makes my blood boil!

If it was anyone else, that could’ve been funny… not him though!

No, I dont think you were in the wrong for saying the funeral was tacky. It was. People dont read in between the lines. Yes, it was tacky. If Daniel were alive, do you think he would have wanted to see his mother in that manner at her funeral? We all know that is what she said she wanted, but she was never in her right mind ever! You know it was a baby talk kinda thing when she made these plans. She probably didnt care anyway. Trust me, I would not want to bury my mother or sister or daughter in that manner. I would feel bad for them for looking so stupid, and I am being honest.

I love your site and I go to it everyday! Keep it up!

It was very, very strange, but I found the ceremony quite moving. In their own demented ways, I think that Howard and the blond guy cared about
Anna, although Howard is never far from what’s in it for him. And even though I think that the dress looks like an Easter basket on crack, and the coffin cover looked like a cheaply Bedazzled dead flamingo, I am sure Anna would have loved them both.

Maigirl you are making me laugh so hard: “and the coffin cover looked like a cheaply Bedazzled dead flamingo”

I am not in the states anymore and cannot see whatever coverage is on the US news channels apart from CNN international, so I will have to take your word on it that it’s moving. Was it covered on the news channels?

Thanks Sarah, I really appreciate that. I try to take into account everything that people say in the comments but I know that I cannot please everyone.

Yes, almost every news channel. Some exploiting it more than others. About saying it was tacky, another thing I just thought of was that it kind of reminds me of how a little girl says, I want to be a princess when I grow up! It just seems like it was kind of like that. Doesn anybody know if she had these plans for a while now, or reccently?

  6. gg says:

Simply speaking, the funeral was tacky and her wishes were tacky because the woman was very tacky in life. She shouldn’t be tacky in death too? Come on. Everything she did was cringeworthy.

Am I missing something here? If I’m correct, OJ is an African American. I’m no genetic expert, but wouldn’t little Dannielyn be showing some evidence of this? Still, it got him into the spotlight once again.

I’m loving this site, too, by the way. Clearly you have a more intelligent strata of readers and commentators. I’ve had it with the negative, trashy kinds of bitching on some other sites I could mention. It’s just tiring, and brings me down. Keep up the good work, whoever you are.

Just in case anyone forgot the funeral wasn’t Princess Diana’s funeral, it wasn’t Barbara Bush’s funeral, it was Anna Nicole Smith’s funeral, and if she would have wanted to be buried in a princess costume in a Rhinestone covered Hello Kitty casket who are any of us to judge her…

I’d wager her youth oriented bedazzled tastes have more to do with her being profoundly abused as a young child and “frozen” in that stage of development, she certainly had the little girl voice of a sexual abuse victim, than with her desire to be “tacky” in the eyes of strangers.

You want tacky, see: OJ, comments about Anna.

  9. m.a. says:

I agree 100% with your 2nd paragraph, Biscotti. I wanted to say something along those lines, but you’ve put it perfectly. Anna was like a kid trapped in a woman’s body. I agree about OJ, too. What a tool!

  10. Carol says:

I saw the footage on E! and didn’t think it was a tacky funeral at all. It was closed casket, you couldn’t see the dress. Aside from the pink drape it looked like anyone else’s funeral.
Everyone should be buried in what they are comfortable in. I am going to be buried in jeans and a sweater, socks, no shoes. Thats what I want. Is that tacky? I would actually prefer nekkid cuz thats how I sleep but I don’t want to freak the funeral home guys out too bad 😉

  11. xiaoecho says:

Anna would have loved every minute watching from up there somewhere near the ceiling (as you do when you’re dead)

  12. Kristin says:

I think it’s weird that ANS wanted to be buried in this princess like ball gown and yet she had her son buried in jeans and a t shirt with a truckers cap, is anyone else with me?.

  13. lyric says:

Compared to OJ Simpson, Anna Nicole Smith is the epitome of taste and intelligence.

  14. katie says:

The guy who made it said that it was her wedding dress and they put the heart on the bodice after she died because Howard wanted her to be buried in it.

  15. insidescoop says:

why take it back? it was tacky and tasteless. anyone who says otherwise seriously needs to reevaluate their sense of style. i dont care even if it was a funeral
