Does Katie Holmes think Elena from ’50 Shades’ would be the ‘role of a lifetime’?

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes is working hard to get her acting career (back?) on track. She did score a small role alongside Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges in the upcoming adaptation of The Giver. Katie is also, intentionally or not, sexing up her own everyday image by becoming one party of a rumored hot fling with Jamie Foxx.

What better way to combine both new aspects — fearless actress and sexy 30-something woman — of Katie’s image than by casting her as a rumored candidate for a role in 50 Shades of Grey? This actually sounds like a disaster. I haven’t read any of the 50 Shades books but understand that Elena shows up in 50 Shades Darker as a sort of “Mrs. Robinson” character. Elena is supposed to have shown Christian Grey the S&M ropes. Katie is wayyy too sweet to pull off such a role. I think. Let’s ponder this, shall we?

Katie Holmes is sexing up her silver-screen image to put herself back on the movie map. And she’s hoping to land a red-hot role in the film version of 50 Shades of Grey!

Sources say that Katie, 34, plans on going platinum blonde for the role of Elena Lincoln, kinky billionaire and main character Christian Grey’s longtime sex and business partner.

The “Elena” character is known in the best-selling book as a Mrs. Robinson-type who schools Christian in the dark, deviant world of bondage and sadomasochism.

The former Tom Cruise has been keeping busy. She had a role this past spring opposite Luke Kirby in the film Mania Days. And she’s been in South Africa recently shooting the ensemble flick The Giver with Meryl Streep and Taylor Swift.

But none of those roles have given her the push she feels she needs to make it to the top of Hollywood’s A-list.

“She’s looking at this as the role of a lifetime for her,” said a pal. “It will shock a lot of people, but she thinks Hollywood will sit up and take notice. She knows she has to reinvent herself.”

When Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam was originally cast as Christian, Katie assumed she wouldn’t get the role of “Elena” because they’d had sex scenes together in the 2002 film Abandon. katie didn’t think producers would pair them again.

But now that Charlie’s out and Irish actor Jamie Dornan is in, katie is determined to win over the film’s execs.

It will also make ex-hubby Cruise fume, say sources.

[From Enquirer, print edition, November 11, 2013]

For what it’s worth (and it’s not much), Gossip Cop has already said this story is crap. That doesn’t mean Katie’s team isn’t putting out feelers to see what the general internet reaction would be to her playing Elena. This is exactly the same method that Jena Malone used to capture the role of Johanna Mason in Catching Fire. It worked for Jena, and I can actually believe that Katie would think a 50 Shades role would help her climb to “the top of Hollywood’s A-list.” At the very least, Katie might be aiming for B-list.

As predicted, Katie has completely ignored Tori Spelling’s recent insults. Atta girl.

I think any movies made from those craptastic books are going to be the death of any actors career.

    • Kiddo says:

      +1

At first, I thought you wrote craptastic “Boots”, which would also be appropriate. lol

    • LadySlippers says:

Agreed. The books may have sold millions but my guess is any movie(s) will tank. Hard core.

  2. T.fanty says:

I’m sure she does, bless her.

  3. eliza says:

Why anyone would want their name attached to these movies is beyond me. Holmes may not be much of an actress but I believe she is smarter than that.

  4. squirrelbait says:

both a pacey and a joey post in the same day!

    • Tessa says:

I know! They look good lined up next to each other on the screen. My teen self is sooo happy, lol.

  5. REALLY???? says:

Aren’t she and Dornan the same age? This is the problem with how they have cast this disaster.

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

They called her “the former Tom Cruise” in the article. For some reason, that struck me as funny.

This is a bad idea, Katie. Remember how you thought marrying TC was a good idea? It’s sort of like that on the scale of ideas.

  7. Red32 says:

Isn’t Elena supposed to be blonde and 45-ish? I thought she was a friend of Christian’s mother and around the same age. Katie seems too smart for this either way, the books sucked.

    • Another Ann says:

Exactly – Katie’s much too young for the role, so I’ll guess the story is crap.

She’d be a better fit for Ana, tbh. She looks young and vanilla enough.

    • Dana M says:

Yes, Elena is supposed to be the Christian’s mother’s friend. So around 50 years old. Katie is too young for the role. Demi Moore or diane lane would be more appropriate.

    • LadySlippers says:

Sharon Stone would be another good candidate for Elena.

  8. Sabrina says:

Katie Holmes hoping to score the role of Elena in ’50 Shades of Grey’ sounds very implausible. I can accept her wanting to change up her image but this seems ridiculous.

  9. Susan says:

I know this role would be way beneath her and would never happen but can’t you see Angelina Jolie as Elena?

    • Amory says:

It’s not beneath her – please, she’s not done anything of note, and never seems to get glowing reviews. I think it’s probably bs regardless. Anyone but an unknown would be a fool to lobby for this role.

  10. Ice Maiden says:

Katie Holmes has to be the very LEAST sexy and charismatic actress out there.

Yes, she even beats Natalie Portman. And that’s bad.

    • LadySlippers says:

      Ouch!!!! Lol

    • Kiddo says:

I beg to differ. AnnE Hathaway, Nicole Kidman and Amy Adams are definitely in the running for the honor of least sexy, although they are all pretty, with varying degrees of charisma.

      • Andrea says:

Because they don’t fit the narrow, sexist view of “sexy” that a patriarchal culture has used to define sex for women for decades? Please.

Amy Adams was sexy as hell in The Fighter and she looks hot and sultry in the American Hustle promos.

Hathaway was plenty sexy in Brokeback Mountain.

Kidman was very sexy in Moulin Rouge and in Batman Forever back in the day.

I’m so tired of women defining “sexy” under such narrow, limiting terms. The actessss you malign are classy and talented and have never had to strip down and be exploited to have careers. They have been allowed to define their identity outside of men. That’s a good thing, you know. That’s a positive thing.

Sexy is a lot more than being a blow up doll squinting into the camera for the male gaze and women do each other no favors when they don’t get that. Who are any of you to rob these women of their sexuality like that?

      • Amory says:

I agree with Andrea, although not on the Anne Hathaway front. I just find her sexless. But Amy Adams and Nicole Kidman can both bring it.

      • Claire says:

I totally agree with Amy Adams – she was sexy as hell in The Fighter.

  11. Littlewood says:

    Oh, honey no.

  12. Meredith says:

If you think she is “way too sweet” to play this, I suggest you re-watch her in “The Gift” with Cate Blanchett (2000). Katie shockingly rocked as a spoiled, slutty rich girl who only cares about herself. And she completely owned her (semi) nude scene – at least until the part where she was murdered. But still I would stay clear of any 50 shades of grey stuff. It’s gonna dive and take everyone down with it.

  13. serena says:

Don’t do it Katie, it will just ruing your ‘career’. She needs to be in some hughe movie, with a small part and then some good comedy.
Also, I’m glad she didn’t reply to Tori Spelling. She’s classy that’s for sure.

  14. Misty says:

Ellen Barkin came immediately to mind for the Elena part. I know she’s a bit older but I think she would be fantastic. Much too talented for the role though.

  15. Baskingshark says:

Oh please, please, PLEASE let this be true! And let her get the part! These movies are going to be SUCH trainwrecks already, this would be icing on the cake.

  16. Me says:

She would look so much better if she would go up a jean size or wear trouser style jeans. She is a pretty girl, but she is in dire need of a jeans makeover.
