Jessica Simpson’s new drink: diet root beer & vodka, and she brings her own

Jessica Simpson was in NYC last week, doing I know not what. Business stuff. Probably for her fashion lines or something. I think Jessica is looking really great these days – everything is working on her. Her blonde isn’t too light, her skin is glowing, she’s gotten down to a weight she’s comfortable with. My theory about that poncho is that she’s a Texas/California girl and she didn’t know what to wear in the cold, so she was like, “Screw it, give me the poncho. That looks warm.”

Anyway, I read this People story and one detail in particular struck me. Jessica ordered a somewhat healthy meal (she’s still doing some kind of Weight Watchers program, I believe), but she brought her own diet root beer and mixed it with vodka. Hm.

Let the games begin! Celebs are flocking to N.Y.C in droves for this Super Bowl weekend, and Jessica Simpson is certainly in on the action, too.

The singer was spotted having a small dinner party with nine girls and one guy Wednesday night at Chef Michael White’s new eatery, Costata.

“It was a very casual party of 10,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE. “The ladies were very laid back and relaxed.”

A svelte Simpson looked comfortable in jeans and boots, and the source found her “super happy and relaxed.”

Simpson and her pals stayed for about two hours, sharing and eating dishes that included artichoke, chicken, Brussels sprouts and fries. And while her friends drank wine, Simpson brought her own diet root beer and mixed it with vodka.

“They toasted to new beginnings,” the source tells PEOPLE.

And although the group had a blast, their dinner wasn’t all fun and games.

“They stayed late and chatted about future business adventures,” adds the source.

Is this a thing? Diet root beer and vodka? I’ve mixed vodka with diet soda before (ah, college) and it’s pretty gross. Plus, I would think that a fancy New York restaurant would frown on people (even celebrities) from bringing their own diet root beer. Did she bring her own vodka too? Does she carry it in a flask?! Anyway, I’m always fascinated by Jessica’s eating habits – I still remember when her meals of choice involved either fried Oreos and Scotch or sangria and onion rings. Jessica is the best!

PS… We don’t give enough respect to Jess’s purse game. I love the studded black bag & I’m also into the shiny brown one. Not so much with the LV monogram bag.

There is a lot if stuff and pics over last few weeks and personal instagram from. Jessica and she looks awesome. Fabulous actually and were focused on a drink of choice and what she eats. LoL.

    • Josephine says:

She doesn’t talk about much else these days. Her job is all about talking about her body and what she eats.

And no diet is worth diet root beer and vodka!

    • Bridget says:

Well, when you’re a paid sponsor for weight watchers, it turns out that people are going to talk about your weight and what you eat. Go figure.

And diet rootbeer and vodka couldn’t sound like a grosser combo.

  2. FLORC says:

I never thought Jessica messed with her face until that bag picture. I thought it was someone else. She’s got the squished mouth and sucked in cheeks look.

Jessica was never one for class. The gas at business meeting and the tmi about her personal hygiene or lack of it. Bringing her own drinks seems right on with her.

  3. YummyMummy says:

I didn’t even recognize her in the black outfit and sunglasses. Seems kinda ridiculous to carry diet root beer around but I guess that is why she has fabulous large bags.

  4. LadyMTL says:

No shade intended because I think Jessica looks great, but isn’t drinking alcohol really counterproductive if you want to lose weight? I don’t drink very much (personal choice + I get headaches super easily) but I’ve always heard that one of the fastest ways to cut calories is to stop drinking.

    • Kali says:

It really is! It was actually WeightWatchers that taught me just how counterproductive it actually was. I’ve personally learnt that I would much rather eat calories than drink them (usually considering that I need a big greasy meal or two the next day to recover 😜) I’m surprised it wasn’t rose wine. That’s one of the best “bang for your buck” drinks according to W.W

    • dizzylucy says:

Definitely – I’ve also seen some stuff about diet soda and weight loss issues too, so overall that is not a good idea. Plus, as someone who hates root beer and hates the chemical taste of diet drinks, that just sounds flat out gross.

    • Cupcake says:

Alcohol is an appetite suppressant for me. If I get a little tipsy I don’t care about eating for hours and when I do eat it ‘s minimal. Whenever I want to lose weight aggressively I use alcohol. Weird I know and not healthy but it works for me!!! Maybe Jessica has a similar experience?

I love Jess. Gotta love a Mom who knows how to get her drink on!!!

      • Kosmos says:

Ditto, whenever I have alcohol, I lose my appetite for food. Even having wine with dinner suppresses my appetite, so I DO know what you mean. However, I never drink cokes, Pepsi or root beer, all nasty to drink on a regular basis.

  5. ali says:

Sure diet root beer and vodka. More like diet pills and vodka

  6. V4real says:

She should try diet sprite and vanilla Vodka, it’s awesome

    • Kristen says:

Vanilla vodka and diet root beer is my drink. It’s delicious! I’ll have to try it with diet sprite

  7. Renee says:

Is the top picture even her????? It sure doesn’t look like her. The structure of the face and that woman’s body look entirely different from J. Simpson’s…

    • Kosmos says:

I don’t think the pic of the woman in the Black pants suit is her……her face looks completely different, and her body is a bit slimmer…..they must have put that pic in with the others, but it clearly doesn’t look like the shape of her face at all…..will someone please clarify? This must be a mistake.

  8. eliza says:

I love het poncho. It would look cuter with jeans.

  9. SamiHami says:

That picture with the shades, I don’t know who that is, but it’s not Jessica Simpson. Someone goofed.

Vanilla vodka and diet root beer…that sounds really good! Normally when I drink I have all-natural organic diet cherry soda with white wine. But when it comes to liquor I am definitely a vodka girl. Hm. I’m definitely going to have to try that.

    • Erinn says:

I had a whipped cream vodka and put it in orange soda made with cane sugar. So incredibly good – tasted like a creamsicle. Vanilla would likely give nearly the exact same result.

      • Lauraq says:

I love vanilla vodka with orange soda! Alternatively you can put orange vodka in cream soda and it is delicious.

      • lovelylaura says:

That sounds fantastic, actually! Not a big drinker, but I do have a much-needed vacation coming up – think I’ll give it a try!

  10. silvia says:

The picture at the bottom in black..is that really Jessica? OMG she looks so different, I would’ve never guessed it to be her…

  11. Nicolette says:

IDK. Diet root beer and vodka? It’s kinda making my stomach churn just thinking about it.

  12. snakecharmer says:

ponchos are really versatile and stylish. check out 16th colony, the styles are so southern california arizona desert. jessica looks great. shes an independent woman. gotta respect that.

    • lilian says:

I hope somebody answers me because I really want to know what a fried Oreo is please? I’m from South Africa and we get Oreos here, just never fried one before.

I’ve heard u can fry Ice Cream too?

      • Louminary says:

Oh yea lilian, you can deep fry lots of things!

I think it might have started in Scotland with deep-fried Mars Bars but now lots of countries have got in on it.

I’ve had deep-fried ice cream and it is quite amazing!

  13. Lauraq says:

As a bartender, lots of people drink vodka-diets. I find it humorous that you say ‘Ah, college’ about it, when I serve women from their 20s to their 60s vodka-diets all the time. Usually diet Coke, sometimes I’ll get requests for diet Sprite, diet Tonic, or Diet Dr Pepper.

  14. I dont understeand their thinkin. They always take and loos weight and in the end they do hundent of plastic surgeries for their buddies. And because theyre celebs they show to kids but methods for invalid diets
