Here are some photos from last night’s 49th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. You can see the list of winners here – is it okay if I really don’t care? I’m not invested in country music at all, although I do follow some of the country music celebrities. I’m just saying, though, I couldn’t care less about who wins what in country music. Anyway, here’s country music’s sweetheart Taylor Swift in J. Mendel. Swifty is a HUGE fan of J. Mendel. She wears that label a lot for formal events, to mixed results. Usually J. Mendel makes Swifty’s frothy, girly dresses, but I kind of like the simplicity of this black-and-white dress. It’s a more adult look for her. She doesn’t get enough credit for changing up her “girly-girl” style the past few years and successfully transitioning to a more mature look.
Here’s Kimberly Perry in Georges Hobeika. Perry is in The Band Perry with her brothers Neil and Reid, they won Vocal Group of The Year. This is a solid look. I prefer this sort of simple, no muss look to big hair/pageant dress look we usually see at country music events.
Here’s Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Tim is one the names that keeps coming up in Gwyneth Paltrow stories. Do you think Goop and McGraw banged circa 2009? I do not, but you never know. Anyway, it’s good to see Tim and Faith out and about. Faith’s dress is Saint Laurent. This reminds me of something Angelina Jolie would wear. Right? It’s sort of simple and sacky and the blue-grey color is something that she would like. I don’t like what’s happening with the waist… it looks poorly tailored, right? Maybe it should have been worn with some kind of sparkly belt. She’s styled beautifully though.

Love the outfit and make-up, but the I don’t think she should have stolen Christian Bale’s comb-over to serve as “bangs”.
She looks really good. I like the more mature/grown up outfits on her. She has made a huge improvement over the last few years.
I see a midriff, I think Kardashian. Think twice before following KK into the void. On the plus side – it fits a lot better than anything KK would choose to inflict on the public.
That’s exactly what I thought. But Tay Tay does pull it off.
The best dressed for me is the Kimberly chick. She looks like she consciously worked at her look but still came across as effortless.
As for Faith…. I like her but No to the dress.
I can’t stand country music either and have never heard of Ms Perry, but that dress is fantastic – for her, and on her.

I wanted to like Kimberly’s dress, but it makes her look short. I mean, she is short, but I wish the cut of the dress created an elongating line.
Yup, she looks really good. Either she used to not wear things that showed off her figure that well, or her body is different. She used to be a trainwreck of oompa loompa tan and Clorox straw hair.

It’s Taylor trying to look like she’s country with teased 80s hair and makeup. Apparently the ACMs need the publicity involved in inviting her to their little shindig. Odd, since the Grammys have wisened up to the fact that she’s a massively autotuned pop act and such.
You realize Taylor is actually country right? That’s where she started and what she still identifies as, not a pop artist but a country artist.
Really? Go ask some legit country folk whether or not weasely tone deaf whining about your boyfriends by a Yankee rich girl stockbroker’s daughter is country. She’s twangy crossover pop at best. Taylor Swift will identify as and with whatever makes her money. Exhibit A: a screeching Top 40 screed entitled “We Are Never, Ever, Ever, Getting Back Together. Like, Ever.”
She even she says she’s not country in interviews anymore. She says she’s a mix if everything. I travel and do notice different areas of the country play different versions of the same songs…especially in the high country radio areas of the USA. Some are more pop and some are more twangy versions- which is why people probably view her so different. She plays the game really well.
All the looks are super retro…Taylor’s top reminds me of Shania twain so that made me laugh.
@Stars Despite your opinion of T.Swift, she did get her start in country music and she still is a country singer, and obviously a lot of her songs are considered pop/country but not all. She may not have the best voice but she is a talented song writer. I don’t really see where she is from or what her parents do for a living has to do with whether she can claim to be a country singer or not.

Real country is/was about the genuine experiences and culture of people in certain parts of America who, to say the least, were not aligned with economic or urban privilege. Like it or not, she is the Pennsylvania daughter of a stockbroker and C-level executive whose parents’ money moved her down south to begin a career singing in a fake southern accent in a genre that has nothing to do with her life experience. THAT’S what her background has to do with her being a country singer.
Hahahah HH, I’m actually from NYC myself. I’m just using it for rhetorical effect because it’s the truth. And if you venture deep enough into the south, yup, people still use it, and not just to talk about baseball either!
I’m not trying to change your opinion of her, but my point was just that your opinion does not match up with the majority of the industry. I have lived in the deep south pretty much my whole life ( I have tried several times to move away, but somehow keep ending up back home ha!) and grown up on country music. Country music in general has changed a ton over the last 5 years especially and a lot of it is now more mainstream than it used to be. Swift has never pretended to be from the country or sing about it really. She is writing and singing about HER life experiences, so I still disagree with you that you have to be from a certain part of the country to be a country singer. You are right about one thing though, Yankee is used quite often down here, and as you might guess it usually isn’t a compliment. 😉

This is a good look on her! She has the height for it. My only issue is her expression. I think she was going for sexy, but it literally just looks lifeless. Like, there is just nothing going on up there. I just keep staring. It’s so funny. Judging by her lyrics, that’s probably the same expression she has when writing her songs. BOOM! Just kidding (kinda)! I’ve been known to jam out to “22” and “Trouble.” Good thing no one here knows me personally. 😉
I don’t think Taylor Swift could ever come up as tacky. She is always quite covered..sometimes too much. She has a great body and she looks nice and polished.

Swift looks SO pretty (in the face) but the bare midriff is a look that I NEVER want to see again. the belly-shirt craze of the 90s traumatized me too much.
and I kinda like Hill’s look, but ever since her reaction shot at that awards show when she was clearly OUTRAGED that she lost (to Carrie Underwood?…), she’s on my “bitch list”.
Wasn’t it cleared up like five years ago that she was just playing? This is the one where if you watch the whole clip, it was obvious that she was going aw shucks, right?
not that I’m aware of. she claimed that it was “all a joke” but I’d say the initial reaction was quite honest.
she also claims that, if the camera had stayed on her, we all would have seen that she was laughing and joking after she did it, but the only clips I’ve seen show her standing there, then throwing up her arms in victory, only to realize and then do a “WHAT?!” toward the camera and stalking off. I think if it were “all a joke”, she would have made that clear, directly to the camera that she looked into when saying “WHAT?!” instead of storming off.

I remember that. I actually rarely watch music awards shows, but I happened to watch that one. It was extremely obvious that she was just joking. I couldn’t believe that anyone ever thought it was serious. It was so over the top and she was laughing. So, you can take her off your ‘bitch list.’
I didn’t see any laughter on her part. there was victorious arm-raising, then the “WHAT?!” and then she stalked off.
The reaction was so quick (and, IMO, genuine) that either she was expecting to win and this was her true reaction or she was expecting to lose and had the “joke” all ready. I seriously doubt the latter scenario. I don’t think that her mentality was “I know I’m going to lose so I’ll have this awesome fake outrage joke to play”. You could conceivably say that she had the joke ready for IF she lost, but I don’t think the reaction would have been as quick or as genuine if it were a “if I lose” mentality happening.
Plus, if it were a joke, I’d expect a “just kidding!” to the camera immediately following the “WHAT?!”, or even after she stormed off camera, a quick duck back in with a wink or a “JK”. Not to mention, is Faith Hill known as a jokester? not so much.

I think that look is smashing on her because she is tall, thin and young and that is who should be wearing this look. I liked her hair and her makeup as well!

I think Taylor looks good, my only complaint (and it’s minor) is that she may be wearing a tad bit too much orange on her face. (that’s honestly just the first photo though)
And I don’t believe Tim and Goop slept together either, there was probably a lot flirting though. Faith looks better here than she has in a while, I think she got rid of the braces.
She looks horrid! What is wrong with her lately? And why does her left boob in the first picture look so far off to the side??? Enquiring minds demand to know!
Wait, who are we talking about Taylor or Faith? If it’s Faith then I think she had some plastic surgery gone wrong I think and those braces she was sporting did her no favors. (I honestly didn’t notice the rouge boob until you pointed it out, I don’t know what’s up with that)
The braces may not have done her any favors. But she got them because her daughter had them and felt self conscious. It was a solidarity thing and I think its so sweet of her to do that.
Oh and Faith’s performance dress was GORGEOUS. And she and Tim kept shooting each other these loving looks. IT was so adorable. Seriously-they are country’s cutest couple.

Okay, at first I was worried that the Jennifer Aniston/ belly showing/ back revealing/ handkerchief tops were making a comeback.
Swift’s dress isn’t that bad, I actually kind of like it.
The beaded black nightmare on the second girl is hideous, and Faith Hill’s dress is only okay from the waist up. The bottom looks like grandma’s housecoat.

Swift looks like (or reminds me of) an older actress in the first photo, but who it is is eluding me, and making me crazy. I almost had it a couple of times.
I like the dress and accessories, I don’t love the hair or make-up.
I like Taylor’s outfit. I would love it if the skirt didn’t have that slit, she doesn’t need it. A crop top with cut-outs is enough sex appeal. The slit makes the overall look a bit over the top. Regardless of my nitpicking, she looks great.
I love reading about differnt people’s reactions on these comment threads. I think it’s so interesting how we can look at the same outfit and see totally different things. All of this is to say that I personally love the slit. 🙂 I think it’s fun and young, and totally age appropriate. Her boobs are covered – I think she’d have looked a little too ‘madam’ without the slit. My two cents.
Since the whole trend restarted I keep saying crop tops look good on no one…but I think Taylor is the exception to the rule. That is a great dress on her.

Taylor looks so great in this outfit. Simple but effective silhouette, classic colour palette and kinda Egyptian/Grecian accessories, love it!
Best bit though – her hair. Perfect! Glad she got rid of those bangs, this hairstyle really suits her. She’s always looked better with curls in her hair.

Remember Shania Twain was the first to do the midriff and Country was not happy…. So many of the dresses last nite were ugly but for me Taylor looked awesome and up to date in her fashion.. She knew she wouldn’t get any awards, not because she didn’t deserve them but because its so called country.. Even the high archy in country doesn’t know there own country anymore. The click is so strong in the buisness and that group few have a chance. I think even George Strait was laughing at his award.. He is awesome absolutley. But entertainer of the year… Lol
Red is her least country album to date. It would’ve been ridiculous to give her Entertainer of the Year for an album with only two country songs on it. And George Strait is a legend who’s last album got good reviews from most critics. He was the most deserving out of the group imo.
Taylor looks stunning, I wish she went for that sleek look more often.

I’m 5’4 and I wear the cropped top just fine. Definitely NOT squatty. Some fashion rules are meant to be broken. But I agree the stretch mark and jelly roll type should stay away. Kim used to style for Paris H not that that means much. Paris always looked like Malibu Barbie to me. Kim’s prob is that she wears her clothes 2 sizes too small and her ass is just plumped far out of proportion to her actual size. Bottoms are probably never going to fit her right, ever. Taylor is always annoying because she just tries waaaay too hard all of the time. I hope the crop look is here to stay. It’s cute and fun and men and (most) women like it as well.
Its so to bad Faith Hill wrecked her face because to be so stunningly beautiful. That paired with tossing on a dress made for someone 6 inches taller than her, and having it droop all over the place and puddle on the floor is a big fail.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I think Taylor is the prettiest thing out there…She’s better looking than ANY of the biggest super models.
