Victoria Beckham celebrated her 40th birthday by thinking about brownies

One of my favorite headlines that I’ve ever written was “Victoria Beckham celebrated her 39th birthday by looking at a cake.” That was last year. And I still think that headline is perfection. It’s shady, it’s judgy, it’s funny and it’s true. Anyway, Victoria turned 40 years old on Thursday. She did not tweet any cake-glancing selfies, unfortunately. But she did do a rather funny interview with People Magazine. Posh claims that her “favorite thing to bake is brownies,” and she shares her recipe for “easy brownies” with People (go here to see). I’ll believe that she bakes brownies for her kids, but as with her birthday cake, one must never eat the brownies. Never. Here’s more from Posh’s interview:

She found fame as a 22-year-old, slightly chubby member of the Spice Girls. But it’s safe to say that Victoria Beckham has been something of a chameleon since she first appeared on the worldwide stage. From pop star to footballer’s wife, she moved to Los Angeles, raised four children and founded an internationally successful fashion line favoured by the cream of Hollywood. And as she celebrated her 40th birthday on Thursday, Victoria Beckham has revealed a number of facts about herself in a new magazine interview.

Perhaps unsurprisingly for someone who has mainly resided in Tinsel Town over the past decade, she confesses to having a secret spiritual side, telling People she ‘believes in karma.’

She adds: ‘I collect crystals and place them around my home and office to create positive energy.’

The star, who is famous for her extremely slender figure, also discusses food rather a lot, revealing a penchant for a glass (or two) of red wine and a love of visiting the family vineyard in the Napa Valley.

‘I like to squeeze grapes underfoot at our vineyard in Napa,’ she says.

Less shockingly, Victoria admits a love for snacking on seaweed rice cakes and a love of lychees – both foods are known for promoting weight loss. And Victoria impressively works out at 6am ‘five days a week.’

The self confessed ‘girlie girl’ also revealed her favourite TV show is ‘still’ Sex And The City. ‘My favourite celebrity meeting was Sarah Jessica Parker who was lovely, warm, funny and stylish – and a wonderful mother,’ she says.

Motherhood is a recurring theme in the interview with Victoria who is parent to Brooklyn, 15, Romeo, 11, Cruz, nine and two-and-a-half year-old Harper

‘My proudest achievements are my four children,’ she says. ‘I am inspired by my children, travel and working mothers.’

The star, whose Victoria Beckham dresses have been worn by the likes of Michelle Williams, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway and Cameron Diaz, names her fashion icon as Audrey Hepburn. She also confesses she is a ‘big fan’ of Barbra Streisand and ‘would love to have dinner with Hillary Clinton.’

[From The Daily Mail]

“SLIGHTLY CHUBBY”?!?! Daily Fail, please. Posh was never chubby, slightly or otherwise. In the Spice Girls, she was normal-sized and then she dieted herself down to a size zero. As for her actual quotes… collecting crystals is so late ‘80s and early ‘90s. It’s pretty ‘70s too, right? As for her 6 am workouts… I can’t work out that early in the morning. Which is weird because I’m a morning person, but I’ve always preferred to work out in the afternoon or evening.

Happy birthday, Posh!

You know I feared she would be named People’s 2014 most beautiful woman in the world, to coincide with her 40th birthday, but thankfully she was named one of the most beautiful of every age, so it’s not her.

Did you guys know one of the 2014 most beautiful sponsors is Aveeno? I will simply die if it’s Jennifer Aniston again (and she wasn’t named as every age beauty for 45 years old and there’s no way she’s not going to be included on the list)…..some title like “a decade after brad, more beautiful than ever, and planning for her wedding to true love!”

That said, maybe it’ll be Jennifer Lawrence or Angelina Jolie.

I prefer to workout in the morning because I’m too tired to after work and I would never do it. I get up at 4:50 am Tuesday-Thursday and curse my treadmill for the entire time I am on it. And I am not a morning person but it gives me the energy to fake it.

I like Posh, I can’t help it. She works hard and from what I can tell (photo assumption again) her kids are happy. Other than eating less than a Robin she seems relatively normal.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Wow, I admire your dedication. I can’t get up that early unless I’m catching a plane or something, and then I’m miserable. I work out in the morning, but never that early. Way to go!

      I like her, too.

Another morning runner/machine curser here. If I don’t work out right after I get up (well. After caffeine & sticking my head under the cold water tap to try & wake up enough to put shoes on the correct feet. Last time I bolted out to the gym without doing that, I fell on the treadmill and as I scrambled back up realized I actually had on 2 left shoes. Worse? One was hot pink the other black. Really not a morning person) I don’t work out at all. The idea of the gym in the middle of the day makes me nauseous and running revs my brain, I would never get to sleep if I worked out at night. I appreciate the perks of working out, but I loathe actually doing it. Never could understand how people could work out at night – that would make me feel like a kid who has to spend the whole day waiting ‘until their father gets home’ to get punished for something done first thing in the day. Just a knotted ball of dread the whole day long, best get it over with first. And Posh… grows on me more and more. I kinda hope that as her daughter grows up, she will allow herself to be more relaxed about her self-image, but beyond that, she seems like a really sweet person.

Who needs to just eat the brownies.

  3. mimif says:

I kind of love her. She can be quite a funny & humble interview; stark contrast to her contorted posturing. I think I’ll eat two brownies for her today.

    • I like her too. I think her clothing line is exquisite, but I hate these interviews where they try to portray the celebrity lifestyle as one of breathing rarefied air. Placing crystals around the home, “curating” collections of clothing, shoes, whatever…..barf. The word “curated” should only be used if you work in an effing museum.

This morning I curated and edited a collection of socks from the dryer because they had become consciously uncoupled.

If you ever see her in a live interview, she is not as pretentious as all that…she’s actually quite down to earth.

      • mimif says:

Yeah her live interviews are great, that’s what I was referring to. And you killed me with your take on curating, bravo. 🙂

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Haha! Very funny, and I agree.

        Ha!

“This morning I curated and edited a collection of socks from the dryer because they had become consciously uncoupled.”

        Bahahahahaha.

      • Longhorn says:

        LMAO!!!!

    • Eleonor says:

I like her too: she has changed a lot, she was capable to build her own fame after the Spice Girls, I like her clothes, even if they’re not that original. I’d love to see her with a bit more weight, because I think being that thin is unhealthy.

    • Size Does Matter says:

Agree on all points. And is it wrong for me to say I admire her will power (assuming she doesn’t have an ED)?

  4. Macey says:

I really like her (not sure why but I do) and H7 is my favorite baby to watch.

Yesterday CDAN posted a cpl pics of her from yrs ago and she looked so cute b/c she was actually smiling in one of them. I think she looks lovely when she smiles, not sure why she hides it.

    • Goofpuff says:

she has said she doesn’t like her smile in photos because she thinks it looks funny which is why she doesn’t smile for them.

      • Eleonor says:

I am like that: i never EVER smile in photos. I actually feel pretty stupid when I smile only “to pose”, so I never do it.
I’ve got only one in which I am smiling, and it was a chance my friend was there to capture that moment.

    • Cecilia says:

I love H7 too. She is my fav baby. I want H7 to marry Flynn Kerr-BLOOM. Draw up that contract, STAT.

  5. Lizzie says:

I kind of love her too. She seems smart with a good sense of humor. But is it any wonder she, and other women, starve themselves down to nothing when a**hole publications like this call her formerly “chubby”? At what point could she be described that way? Does chubby now mean having still youthfully fuller cheeks and not being a size zero? Yikes…

    • TorontoE says:

ITA! Since when is having a healthy (and low range) BMI considered slightly chubby. I like her, but there is almost no way her current weight is healthy (esp considering how she looked in her 20s … She’s not meant to be a twiggy type).

      • retromancer says:

It’s totally bizarre, the dichotomy between celebrity skinny/chubby, and ~real world~ skinny/chubby. I’ve got a ‘perfect’ BMI, according to my doctor (if we’re going to place any emphasis on BMI, that is, as opposed to activity levels, nutrition/diet, and fitness levels, but that’s by-the-by for the purposes of this). That is to say: my weight is perfectly in the middle of the so-called healthy extremes of the lowest weight I ‘ought’ to be, and the highest weight I ‘ought’ to be. However, in person, I’m often told how tiny I am, and yet if we were to place me (or anyone else at that median weight) next to any number of celebrities, skinny through to so-called chubby, I’d definitely be chubby.

It just completely baffles the mind how there’s this total separation of what’s ‘acceptable’ when, at the end of the day, they shouldn’t be any difference whatsoever. Healthiness is healthiness, regardless of whether you’re a celeb or not. So, yeah, compared to now, VB might have been chubbier, but she certainly wasn’t chubby.

(By-the-by, I’ve come to find her weirdly endearing in recent years; when I was younger and a Spice Girls fan, and then when I was a little older and TOTALLY a REAL MUSIC fan ugaiz, I really bought into the ‘Posh Spice’ persona and imagined she was an awful snob, but what she and David do and donate, and the way they seem to bring up their children, is remarkably admirable to me, particularly given all of their wealth and how badly wrong it could/could have gone.)

  6. pnichols says:

always loved her. she’s funny, I think. always a class act and I loooove her clothes. And please spare me if she’s chubby I need a blowhole and I’m a 6. lol!

  7. allons-y alonso says:

I’ve always liked Victoria Beckham. I respect anyone who works hard and I quite like her clothing line.

I work out in the mornings too – it gives me more energy during the day and the last thing I want to do after a long day at work is go exercise. I get up hating the world at the ungodly hour of 4:30am, go to the gym, and then straight to work – over and done with.

    • retromancer says:

God, I wish I had your motivation. I run in the evening because, unless I have to run in the morning for whatever reason, I just … It feels like more work? I know it’s exactly the same amount of work and energy, it just feels that much harder in the mornings, and I’d describe myself AS a morning person (although perhaps not so much a 4:30am gal.)

That aside, I’m 100% with you on admiring her work ethic (and I quite like her clothing line, too.)

  8. Hissyfit says:

I love her! I remember watching that failed tv show she had when she was just moving to L.A. and she was really funny! She had a make up artist with her at DMV to beautify her for her drivers license and she was posing like it was a photoshoot! Her clothing line is really good too!

    • Tiffany says:

I remember that. Then she asked if they did touch ups. Funny stuff. I wish she would do another one pretty much about anything in her life.

  9. sarah says:

I prefer to work out at night, too. BECAUSE I’m a morning person. Mornings are for working and getting stuff done. I’m brain dead by mid-afternoon which is the perfect time to work out. Get some energy back and then get on with non work, stuff. I feel you!!

  10. Kaylah says:

I love her so much. When she had the bolt-ons and the blonde hair I wasn’t a fan but I really really like her now. When H7 was born I used to live for her airport strut with Harper on her hip & 7″ stilettos on her feet.

  11. lex says:

A lot of people at my work are into crystals for some reason and always put them outside to ‘charge’ in the full moon……..
