Adriana Lima is getting a divorce. It wouldn’t be newsworthy, except this whole marriage seemed rather sketchy. Adriana married former NBA star Marko Jaric in 2009 after dating for three years. That whole time while they were dating, Adriana and Marko never had sex. According to her. She stayed a virgin until she was 27 years old, and she saved herself for marriage. Adriana and Marko welcomed a daughter, Valentina, almost nine months exactly after they got married. Her virginity isn’t any of our business, of course. I’m only noting it now because she discussed it years ago, and because I think it might be one of the reasons why she and Marko have split up now:
Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima and former NBA star Marko Jaric have split, PEOPLE confirms exclusively.
“After long and careful consideration, we have decided to separate after five years of marriage,” they said in a joint statement to PEOPLE.
“We are grateful to be the parents of two incredible young daughters that we will continue to co-parent. We would greatly appreciate your respect for our family’s privacy as we begin this delicate next chapter for all members of our family.”
Lima, 32, and Jaric, 35, met at a party in Los Angeles in 2006 and got engaged two years later on Lima’s 27th birthday. They eloped in 2009, exchanging vows on Valentine’s Day in a private civil ceremony in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
“Our life, we live in a honeymoon,” the Brazilian beauty told PEOPLE six months after they tied the knot. “I never saw myself being married. But after I met him, everything changed. I knew he was the one and I could see myself married with him and with a big family.”
The couple have been raising their two children – daughters Valentina, 4, and Sienna, 19 months – in Miami.
“Even in my wildest days I knew that I wanted to be the ultimate family man,” Jaric told PEOPLE in 2009.
Though Lima has walked the Milan runways for Prada and showcased her killer body in nothing but lingerie for Victoria’s Secret, she says, “The best job in the world for me is being a mom.”
My take? Once a baller, always a baller, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Marko was fooling around on his Victoria’s Secret model wife. It also wouldn’t surprise me if Adriana wondered if there were other, better dongs out there. I wonder if Adriana will rebound straight into the arms of some millionaire who will take care of her? Or she could sow her wild oats in a post-marriage blaze of dong/glory. We’ll see.

Aha, that was my first thought too. It’s sad to hear they’re getting divorced, Adriana has been one of my favourite models for a long time.
I never found him attractive but she is drop dead gorgeous. I’m sure she will rebound( no pun intended..well, maybe ) after this breakup.

They had a US civil ceremony-the only thing they could possibly need from the Pope is if they had a full Catholic service and were having the marriage annulled. And even then that’s handled by the local bishop.
A Catholic annulment is handled at the local bishop level. If they were married in a civil ceremony, the church doesn’t recognize their marriage anyway.
I don’t see how you can make the assumption that her being a virgin when they married has anything to do with their divorce. That’s a pretty huge assumption based on nothing.

The assumption wasn’t that her virginity had anything to do with their divorce. The assumption was that he probably was cheating during their dating years and that probably continued on throughout their marriage.

She wasn’t even a virgin until marriage. There is a huge misconception about this. Adriana merely implied she was a virgin for an American magazine interview (I can’t remember which one – I think GQ), she never really discussed it in detail. She was interviewed by a not-so well known Italian magazine shortly after and they asked her about her status as a virgin, if she really meant what she said. The article is in Italian, but she more or less stated that she was not a virgin, and the reason why she said that sex is for after marriage was because it is a “good message for the teenager”. I can’t remember the name of the magazine but it is possible to find.

Marko is Serbian and in Serbia it is a common knowledge that he was fooling around big time with all kinds of women (professionals as well). So, this is not a surprise at all. He was always known as a ‘playa’. And yeah, his eyes are strange looking, I don’t see why women flock to him…

I met him in Minnesota shortly after he had met Adriana. He definitely wasn’t being faithful to her back then, but who knows if they were actually together at that point. He also told me straight to my face that he had slept with her. But guys could possibly lie about stuff like that. Anyway, my guess would be she realized she’s too desirable and her career is too big to be cheated on by an NBA has-been. It always surprised me that she married someone so much less famous than her.

I dunno, the reason I broke up with my first bf in college was because I was curious what other dong was out there. We were together for 3 years. He was a bit of an ass too so that contributed to it.
I don’t find either to be attractive in my opinion, different strokes, different folks, but I do want to learn her workout, and how she got back in shape so quickly. Personal trainer, most likely.
She’s big on boxing, that’s what she said in interviews and from what I recall she had a former boxer as a personal trainer.
I don’t think that being a virgin before marriage means you’ll sow wild oats after. For some people it is still just important even once the proverbial cherry is popped. I know I didn’t go crazy after splitting up with my boyfriend of seven years..

I do agree with everyone saying that the divorce is more likely that he was cheating on her than her wanting to go be with other men. Some people who are virgins when they get married remain true to that person their entire lifetime. By the same token, some of us who aren’t virgins but who commit to someone remain true as well.

Jessica Simpson talked about remaining a virgin until her wedding night with Nick Lachey but obviously doesn’t really discuss it any more, once they divorced.
Justin and Britney on the other hand were intimate, but she felt she had an image to maintain.

If she was a virgin until 27 and she says she thought she would never get married, sex may not be that important to her. Sex is not important to some people. Maybe things have changed for her now, who knows?

I’m the same way. I’m still a virgin due to my trust issues and social anxiety. Also, I very highly doubt that’s why they are getting divorced. Maybe if they were married for less than a year and didn’t have kids, but after 5 years and two kids I doubt that was an issue.
I love when people pick and choose which religious customs to follow. She’s Catholic enough to remain a virgin until she gets married (while making a living strutting around wearing skimpy lingerie/bikinis), but she’s not Catholic enough to take her marriage vows seriously. It’s like those people who have to get married when the bride is knocked up, but divorce less than 3 years later.
