Solange Knowles & Jay-Z pose together in NOLA: are they just protecting the brand?

bey1

We get it, Beyonce. There are no problems. It’s just family drama. The Hive is placated. There’s no reason to continue posting happy-family photos except to emphasize the fact that whatever went down in that elevator damaged The Beysus Brand. The Empire was shaken. The Empire is not crumbling, of course not. The Empire is still standing. But there was jeopardy and it was dealt with.

So… why does Beyonce keep posting pics to her Tumblr? And why did Bey and Jay high-tail down to NOLA this weekend to spend some quality time with Solange and Solange’s son Julez? It could be that this trip was planned for a while. Or it could be an emergency summit to deal with the brand’s issues. All I know is that this is the first post-elevator photo of Beyonce, Solange and Jay-Z all in the same frame, and Jay and Solange are separated by two people (Beyonce and Mama Tina Knowles). It’s like, “Yeah, we’re good, but I’m gonna need a wall of Knowles blockers between me and Solange.” The other guy in the photos is Solange’s boyfriend Alan Ferguson… who is CUTE.

Are you happy, Bey Hive? Or does Yonce need to keep posting family photos?

    Question:

“Are they just protecting the brand?”

    Answer:

“Do bears sh/t in the woods?”

    • Nikollet says:

      +1 hahaha

All these photos are so cringe-worthy. We can all see straight through your game Beyoncé, give it up already.

      • Loopy says:

This makes little sense, Solange must have some serious dirt on them and they don’t want her flipping out so they are keeping her sweet, why would they fly out to her, shouldn’t she be the one to go out of her way to make amends?

      • MW says:

@Nikollet – “cringeworthy” is the word … the patio picture actually made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

    • BangersandMash says:

This just makes me feel like there’s a lot more sh-t going down the yonce town.

She’s at the point of grabbing all of us by the collar and saying, “We are happy, content and love each other, you got that, buddy?”
Over reaction is what I’m saying, so I know there is a lot more cracks here than there appears to be.

    • Dutch says:

And Solange doesn’t want her allowance cut off either.

    • doofus says:

hahahaha….yeah, I was like, “how is this even a question?”

    • Miffy says:

I’d imagine that ‘brand’ and ‘family’ are synonymous with each other in the Knowles-Carter clan. If there’s no brand, there’s no clan!

  2. Dani2 says:

They both look beautiful but my boyfriend made a joke that Ms Tina is probably pinching Solange’s back as if to say, “behave, girl!”

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Lol. Ow, my mother used to pinch me if I was squirming in my seat in church.

    • paola says:

Tina has such an evil face. She has a proper bitch look going on in every pic i’ve ever seen of her. Beyawncè is the golden girl just like Kim Kardashian is for mama Kris.. and in this they stand united. Solange can throw sh*t as much as she wants but she’ll never be the celebrity in that family.
I honestly thought that the fight started off because JayZ said something like Solange being famous only for riding onto Beyoncè’s celebrity tail. Just my theory of course but that makes more sense to me.

      • Bumble says:

I’ve run into Tina and Solange in Nola, and they are anything but evil. Some fans asked if they could take a pic with Solange, and Tina sweetly offered to do it. My wild 6 year old had no clue who they were and was running around on the sidewalk and rammed into Tina. I apologized and she and Solange were incredibly sweet, smiling, said ‘no problem’ and chatted my daughter up and called her cute, etc. Very nice people. So there .

      • paola says:

I’m so happy to hear that! I like when celebrities turn out to be nice people 🙂

  3. Elisabeth says:

brand protecting? of course they are

  4. Lauren says:

    Seems desperate!

  5. Tracy says:

Their brand is all they have. Everything else is 100% fake.

  6. Ollyholly says:

I’m satisfied. At this point, who cares? They fought. Now they’re not.

Although Solange should be the one apologising, violence is always wrong no matter if you’re male or female. I have a lot less respect for her after this. The way people and the media framed this as a fight between the two of them was gross and highly sexist, and she should have been the one to suffer.

    • Sayrah says:

She should say something. I guess they’re afraid she’d embarrass them again

    • Rainbows says:

I’m sure theres tension between Jay and Solange but that will take time to heal. Honestly I think this is indication that they are willing to work on it, nothing more. And good for them too. It would be tragic if they had dealt with it as so many families do, by avoiding each other for the rest of their lives.

I’m kind of over this story to be honest.

    • Allie says:

How do you know she didn’t apologize? I don’t like this family, but why should she publicly apologize? This was obviously a private matter.

      • Ollyholly says:

I suppose she could have apologised in private. Doesn’t really change anything I said in my comment, though.

She should have been the one blamed by the media, not BOTH her and Jay. It’s sexist that people were so desperate to come up with reasons why she would hit him. THERE IS NO REASON, it doesn’t matter, she is wrong.

  7. Cecilia says:

Are they just protecting the Brand??

of course they are. can’t stand any of these people — kids excluded.

  8. QQ says:

The Beehive is more than placated and doesnt even want to talk about this, like outright refuse and come swinging about it (if you guys listen to The Read Podcast with Kid Fury and Crissles-whom i love but are avowed stans you know what i mean!) I mean SOME got jokes and deflection but the stans position is “i dont wanna know and lalalalala and I never said they were perfect anyways! Lalalalala She is the love of his life you dont know nothing”

But smutty gossip person such as myself ? I WANNA KNOW I ride with Wendy Williams Theory and While I Applaud Jay-Z not putting hands on Solo regardless of whatever work his mouth was doing I DONT give Solange a pass for this one at all.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Totally agree with all. No excuse for her behavior, and respect him for not slugging her back. I don’t know if I’d stand there and let someone beat on me.

      • Liv says:

I find her behavior very weird, too, but he also provoked her. That’s not an excuse to get violent, but I think there’s more to the story and that he’s not innocent either.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I didn’t say he didn’t provoke her, I said that was no excuse for her to hit him. And it isn’t. My ex said things to me that made me really, really want to shoot him, but I didn’t. She could have yelled at him or walked away. Beating on him is NOT ok.

      • Liv says:

I didn’t say that beating on him would be ok. Like I said, I find that behavior very weird. I just say that he plays a part in it – if you watch the video closely you can see that he tries to provoke her to go crazy. Which I find very odd.

    • LadyRay says:

yes, I listen to the Read and I was so disappointed and yet not so surprised with their lame reporting on it.

Yes, I can understand you’re biased but that was beyond bias, that was blindness & pure wackness. Their stan level is so high smh.

jay z looks super awkward on these pictures though. anyone caught that?

      • QQ says:

Right Ladyray, the way i see it, had Dustin Ross not come for reinforcement they might not have even talked about it since they kept saying in their personal twitter feeds they did NOT wanna talk about the biggest celeb news this year thus far, which had it been anyone else they’d be going in, But that attitude sums up the fandom’s They Do Not Care To Shatter The Illusion all the sudden is “I dont wanna be in their personal business” except every other time they would LOL

    • Side-Eye says:

First of all–YAAAAAAASSSS–someone listens to the read. Second, yeah their report on it was pretty hypocritical and lame particularly crissle who never wants to hear a bad word about her queen. On the other hand the reporting on it as a joke and the pretty sexist reactions towards Jay-Z are enough to make me want to not talk about it either. I’ve read a lot of gross things this last week or so. ..

      • QQ says:

I do every say weds night i start checking and rechecking hoping is up, I love them I do and have followed Kid Fury from the start and love Crissles’ writing prowess but they have a huge blind spot for Beysus

    • Anna says:

Beyonce stans don’t want to talk about it because it seems so pointless now with all these theories, especially when they come from mags and sites who barely even knew Solange existed.

I don’t really think this is as “PROTECT THE BRAND” as some people seem to think. Bey and Jay have always been super close to Julez and have been seen with him for years, I think they just have a great relationship with him so they most likely we’re just going for a visit and Bey and Jay always post pictures anyway, its nothing new.
They could just be putting them out so soon after the visit (she usually posts pics a few weeks after she takes them) to placate the non-Bey and Jay fans.

  9. Maxine7 says:

This reminds me of my friends on facebook who post 800 pictures of their “happy” family and talk endlessly about how they have the best husband because he bought them a rose for their anniversary or the best wife because she cooked dinner last night. When I see that I automatically – think – hmmmm – that’s a little try-hard. Beyonce’s pictures make me think there’s a BIGGER story and now I really want to know what happened – and it must be very very juicy!

I feel like Beyonce and group are like the Malaysian officials of that plane – if you let enough time pass and just go on like business as usual, eventually (hopefully) people will just forget and move on to another story.

PS – for such a “private” couple they seem very open to the public knowing what they had for dinner when in damage control mode.

  10. Lucy2 says:

Of course they are protecting the brand. It seems a little weird to me to go from such a serious incident to everyone pretending nothing happened. The barrage of happy family photos is a bit much, we get it.
Also, she’ll post photos of her sister’s child’s but not her own?

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I missed a lot of it because I was on vacation, but I didn’t like the “all families have problems” stance. All families don’t hit one another when they’re angry. Did they ever say she shouldn’t have tried to resolve those problems with violence? That bothered me.

  11. karen says:

The thing i never understood about the whol ‘protecting the brand’ was, why bother? People that are fans/beyhive will eat this up, others who already disliked them are convinced it was something shady and everyone who was indifferent was mildly interested and now probably bored by the whole thing. So what’s changed? I never understood the whole PR/Brand angle, i think everyone is too media savvy nowadays to take anything to celebrities say as gospel. They’re all out to increase their net worth and stay relevant. Even ones everybody loves.

    • Rainbows says:

      @Karen
PR is for Joe Public, not stans or haters. Most people are indifferent to most celebs. They certainly dont seek out info on them. They will see the stuff that gets picked up by the mainstream media though.

So if a bad piece of pr filters into the mainstream, your best bet is bombard the mainstream with something good. It cant be a subtle assault even, it has to be big enough that respectable outlets pick it up and run it. So in this case, CBS news carried footage of the fight, now you want to make sure they carry the reconcilliation. This btw is the reason why Angies PR so effective. She gets her face plastered on hard news for charity work and now Joe Public connects her with that rather than a love triangle (no, I’m not suggesting that her humanitarian work is deliberate PR just that it has the same effect)

  12. Hissyfit says:

    Damage control much?

In the last photo, she strategically chose a photo where she can include her daughter without showing her face but don’t care if she shows her nephew’s face.

  13. Kim1 says:

Family members fight will at least they do in my family. My cousin actually stabbed her brother so this thing with Solo and Jay was rather mild.My cousin was wrong for stabbing him
Solange was wrong for hitting Jay.They have forgiven each other and moved on. Beyonce didn’t do anything to hurt her brand.Solo acted ” ratchet but now more people know her name. I think her new single drops today.

  14. serena says:

Look at Solange stance and body movement.. she’s not ‘happy and relaxed’ she is actually quite distancing herself from the others. Anyway her son is really too cute!

  15. Adele Dazeem says:

God this family just s**ts me to tears. It’s so yawn-worthy. Here’s a big hint Beyoncé – the more you draw attention to your family togetherness, the less we will believe it. What’s that saying? The lady doth protest too much.

  16. THeOriginalKitten says:

Both. Protecting the brand and I think they’re over it.

  17. Jenny says:

She always posts pics on her tumblr I don’t see the big deal, anyway did you solange’s bf is 50 years old?

  18. shannon says:

yeah, I can see how they would want to do some damage control. I’ve always known that all things Bey/Jay is just one, big facade. Not to say that they aren’t talented, because they both certainly are, but unfortunately, their desperation to be Queen/King of whatever is overshadowing it. I def. see them in a different light. First all the pics and then their star-studded “trailer.” It just screams desperate and a little pathetic actually. Their narcissism is ruining the empire.

  19. BendyWindy says:

Is there another photo of Blue? Because it’s kinda crappy that they go to such lengths to hide their kid’s face, but plastered Solange’s baby all over the interwebs. LOL.

  20. Suze says:

EVERYTHING IS FINE! Everything is great.

Nothing to see here. Move on, everyone.

  21. Loopy says:

This is really embarrassing to watch, especially since they had always been above such stunts. And Jay Z’s smile looks like it hurts. Why did they go to NOLA she was the aggressor why are they coddling this grown woman?

  22. NewWester says:

I did notice that Blue Ivy has her back to the camera in the last pic. Beyoncé and JayZ are very protective of their daughter and what photos are released.

  23. Talie says:

    Tina is beautiful!

  24. jonB says:

    fake

  25. paola says:

Now they’ve just made it even more clear there’s a lot going on to go have fake photos – I’d have more respect for them if they just told people to mind their own business and got on with their lives. All this denial and pretend family outings just shows how desperate they are.
Plus i can see JayZ being very comfortable around Solange.. so comfortable that he’s far away from her in every picture! That’s so funny!

  26. Kaylah says:

While I do think the trip might have been planned before the tape leaked & she does constantly post family pictures on her instagram/tumblr. The timing isn’t great.

I love little Blue Ivy. She’s so adorable with her cheeks & she has so much hair ! I love hers & Beyonce’s dresses. It’s so cute when mommy-daughters colour coordinate.

  27. Liberty says:

    yes. brand shields UP!

  28. aquarius64 says:

The joint statement should have been the end of it. The pictures going out on social media and gossip blogs come off as a hard sell, especially bring the mother and nephew in for the photo ops. This only keeps the elevator attack in the news and continues to fuel speculation about what REALLY happened. Bonnie and Clyde’s visit to NOLA comes off as fear that Ms. Fists (and Feet) of Fury may do a tell-all to a magazine and/or an entertainment show. What’s worse, because they dragged out the resolution the mainstream press will pick up “Solange Speaks: The Golden Couple is Tarnished”. (Other suggestions for a Solange tell-all are welcome.)

  29. Cheryl says:

The control freakage is strong in here. The first photo is just begging for us to superimpose thought bubbles above each person. I’d also imagine the PR team meeting and the list of photo op suggestions. Their daughter will have fun when she is 16 by accidentally sharing photos or info on life as it really is.

  30. truthful says:

I don’t know but I still stand by my theory of Solange wanting IN on upping her career…and J putting so much emphasis on other artists as if she did not have or want to further her career.

    Guess what ???
Solange has been announced as the opening act for J and Bey’s new tour and she will pocket 8mil…and all is happy with the world.

its absurd to think that Solange does not want more shine on her craft and UP things as bit, that’s what brother in laws are for..and I am sure she wants her own big chunk of loot now chips to be doled out to her like she is a kid. She will put on a fabulous show, she loves what she does.

    • aquarius64 says:

Now since that elevator fight Solange’s place in the tour looks like a payoff to keep her from running to the tabs and gossips shows and tell what was really behind the fight. The world saw Slug-gate play out on line and on TV on 5/12; the tour is announced a few days later; and now Solange is announced as the opening act. All publicity is good publicity I guess….

  31. TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

Enjoyed all the comments especially agree with Cecelia and tracy; this is why my son and his friends are into rock and soul from the 60s-70s far better music from more talented authentic individuals. All this emphasis on branding/marketing/pr is turning people into caricatures. Someone like Beyoncé is so contrived and robotized i’ll bet she can’t stand being alone because she has no substance and doesn’t know who she is.

  32. amber5ash says:

HAHAHA. HAHA. Haaa. Ahhh. Beyonce. ‘Ride or Die’ Beyonce. What a twit.

  33. sorella says:

I am CRINGING for how hard the “Brand” is working to convince us. It seems beneath them, but now has me wondering..what are they so afraid of?? What are they afraid that Solange knows that they don’t want her to spill ?? (and why is NOBODY asking that question??!! I feel that Solange is in the driving seat after the elevator fiasco. LIke she told them “post past and new pics together, write that I’m not an bad drinker and make me your opening act..or else I spill”. What are they hiding???!! All of this over-posting they are doing makes me wonder.

  34. A Bit 'O Snark says:

These pictures were taken at Cafe Amelie, which is the most quaint, beautiful little cafe in the French Quarter. Such vintage charm sullied by contrived, controlled, overstatement.

  35. melain says:

I haven’t seen smiles this big from Jay, bey, or mama Knowles in years. Wow. These pictures reveal just how intensely they want to make this story go away. Just makes me want to know more. Like…do they want us to think the elevator scene was not that bad? Or is there more…like they don’t want people digging into what set Solange off?
