Hayden Panettiere is pregnant with her first child, by fiance Wladimir Klitschko

'A Heart for Children' charity gala
Hayden Panettiere has announced her pregnancy, with her fiance of one year, boxing great Wladimir Klitschko. Just like Rachel Bilson, she gave the exclusive news to US Magazine. This makes me realize that when US first announced Hayden’s engagement, in March of last year and seven months before Hayden was “officially” engaged, that they probably heard it straight from her. So is Hayden going to adopt a similar strategy here, is she going to wait for the official pregnancy announcement? Here’s the news from US:

“Hayden is totally pregnant!” the insider tells Us of the Nashville star, 24, who has been engaged to Klitschko, 38, for a year.

On and off since meeting at a book party in 2009, the Heroes alum and her 6-foot-6 boxer beau dated for two years before splitting in 2011. By the spring of 2013, however, they were back together and ready to spend the rest of their lives with each other.

US also reminds us of Hayden’s May, 2013 Glamour cover interview, where she gushed about kids and said that she was ready for them. She said “I feel like I was born to be a mother. Sometimes people speak about [having kids] like, ‘Your life ends—you’re never going to be able to do anything again!’ And I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ Motherhood is the most beautiful, exciting thing, and there’s nothing that I feel like I can’t accomplish while having children in my life. I would sacrifice having more years of being wherever I want whenever I want for years with my kids.” It’s all well and good to say those things before you’ve actually had kids. Having them is an entirely different experience, although I’m sure Hayden’s experience will definitely be tempered by her wealth.

Anyway, congratulations to Hayden and Wladimir! I wonder if they’re planning to marry before or after the baby comes. They’ve said that their wedding is on hold due to the conflict in Wladimir’s native Ukraine, where many of his relatives still live. Oh and Hayden joked on Ellen that if she had kids with Wladimir, that they’d be normal sized. We’ll see. I bet they’ll be towering over her as preteens.

Glad to hear she’s “totally pregnant ” instead of partially pregnant.

    • Dani2 says:

Aha yes, I noticed that too 😉

    • mimif says:

Lol Goodnames. This may be puerile but um, she’s going to try to squeeze a watermelon out a hole the size of a lemon? (No seriously, Lily Tomlin joke.)

      • Kiddo says:

I look at her and look at him, and her, and back at him. And all I can think of, after looking at him, is (in deep baritone), “You rang?”.

      • mimif says:

I’m looking at your post and laughing. 😀

    • Amanda_M87 says:

Lol. How would partially pregnant work? Either she is or she isn’t.

      • mimif says:

        Do beer bellies count?

      • JennySerenity says:

I had girlfriend who once told me she was “just a little bit pregnant”. I stared back at her wordlessly, slack jawed and google-eyed. I always thought pregnancy was an ‘all in’ type of situation, lol.

Anyway, congrats to the happy couple. Have always thought Hayden is a real cutie-pie.

  2. Ari says:

I am happy for them outside of the engagement they have been together for a very long time so I wish them the best

  3. Patty Cake says:

She’s so young. I hope she’s not making a mistake.

    • LeManda says:

She’s almost 25, she’s not that young. She just has a babyface.

    • Erinn says:

Meh. My best friend got married at 21, and her baby is now 5 months old almost 4 years later. She’s never been happier. Sometimes it works. Half of my friends have mothers who had a kid at around 20, and they’re happy, still married, and having a ton of fun now that they’re shifting to the grandma role. He is a good deal older, but they have been together for a while now, so I guess it’s not random or anything.

I think it’s a case by case thing, but she also doesn’t make me think she’s suuuper mature.

    • Molly says:

24 is pretty average for getting married. Right when people graduate college and work a year or two.

      • SpookySpooks says:

I think that’s really young. Mainly because with 24 you’re barely out of university, a lot of people aren’t.
I’m 21 and can’t imagine being married in 3 years. My mum got married aged 23 25 years ago and even then everybody was nagging how young she was.

      • mango says:

24 is not the average at all. For a woman in the US the average age of marriage is currently 27.

      • Isa says:

I think it depends on where you live. 26 years old, been married for 7 years and have 3 kids.
It’s fun. Loud but fun. We don’t go out much alone but we take the kids places.

    • swccclleemmnnssuuws says:

For the sake of the Stumpster, I hope the baby doesn’t inherit his size. Ouch!

      • kri says:

Um. She is going to “totally” burst. It’s going to be like “Alien”. How does a human give birth to what is sure to be an oak tree? Whatever drug company makes epidurals had better start now.

    • Stef Leppard says:

Babies having babies. I agree she is very young. And I agree with CB. You know in theory that your life is going to change and that parenting is hard but you cannot fathom how much it will change or how hard it will really be until you actually have kids. That was my experience anyway.

  4. Hannah says:

“Totally pregnant”? Is that “insider” a 13-year-old girl?
Anyway, congrats! Wonder what her breasts will look like as they grow bigger. You know, she has that boob job-dent…

  5. blue marie says:

Good for her, although I never realized the Skipper doll came that way.

  6. Dani2 says:

Congrats to her 🙂 she’s so cute and she’s definitely the best part of ‘Nashville’.

  7. Tiffany says:

The more I read about him and his brother, the more I wonder what do these two talk about on a daily basis. She never struck me as someone wanting to educate themself. And he has shown to be superficial and show signs of a mix life crisis at the ripe age of 36 when he started dating her.

    • Well, she did just say that their wedding was on hold because of what’s going on in Ukraine. So maybe she’s studied up on that????

But there must be something about her–because they broke up and then got back together after a significant amount of time…

    • ELJ says:

I’m not sure thats an accurate statement about her. At one point she was involved in environmental/animal rights stuff. I believe she was arrested or something between heroes and Nashville for protesting the Japanese dolphin slaughters, or something like that.

  8. eliza says:

I would be TERRIFIED to squeeze out a Klitchko baby on the 50% chance it would be a 10lb giant.

Good for her. I wish them happiness and a healthy child.

    • Amanda_M87 says:

Exactly. For her sake I hope the baby takes after her in size.

    • Dani2 says:

      Yikes. You have a point.

    • Jh says:

Yep- she’s so tiny. That baby will be a c-section for sure, right? Dear lord.

    • Molly says:

I keep thinking she’s so short but when I look it up it says she’s 5’2, which is the same height as me. I think she’s just got dwarf proportions to her legs and arms or something. I think Wladimir is hot but there would be a scheduled C section with that baby.

    • kcarp says:

I am 5’2 and my husband is 6’5 I gave birth to a beast! She was 9.3. Now at 2 1/2 she is over half my height.

She looks like Buddy the Elf and I look like his elf dad when she sits in my lap.

    • Sighs says:

I’m about her size. My husband is ever so slightly above average, but with a huge head. We joked a lot about me giving birth to a tiny squirt with a huge head. Well, he wasn’t tiny (9lbs) and had a huge head. Needless to say he didn’t quite make it out naturally.

      • Isa says:

There’s no accurate way to estimate a baby’s size. The US can be off by a lb or two.
I’m her size, my husband is 6’1. I had two normal sized babies and then one that took after me- he weighed 9 lbs 6 oz. I weighed 9 lbs 7 oz at birth. Even though my husband is a lot bigger than me, he was a smaller baby.

      • Sighs says:

When I asked my OB about a week before he was born how big she thought he’d be, she said average, 6-7 lbs. when the doctors pulled him out, they both said, “whoa”!

  9. jonB says:

I can’t imagine how they have sex !

    • mimif says:

I think it’s called a stool? Or maybe a ladder.

      • jonB says:

lol i d go with ladder

      • Jh says:

I’m laughing so hard right now! But honestly, he’s a stud. So hot. Get it, girl!

      • I Choose Me says:

Haha. Everything lines up when you’re horizontal. Or she could just go on top.

It’s probably just me but I find their pairing very hot.

      • littlestar says:

I find them to be a very hot couple too. Klitschko is a very intelligent man, and Hayden always seems to come across well in interviews, so obviously there’s something there for them, and they have been together for quite a while.

I know it’s crass, but I always wonder what the size of his dong is when I see pictures of him :O.

      • mytbean says:

I dunno… if his thunder down under is size proportional… and her Waffle House special is too – well… was David Copperfield in the bedroom when they did it?

I mean… I’m short and small – and well – sharing too much information – I’ve found guys drastically taller/bigger just aren’t my cup of tea. It’s just all too much no matter how much prep.

If she’s pregnant, it got done. But I’m seriously scratching my head as to the technicalities of how it was done.

    • cat says:

I’m scared to admit that I wondered this too !

    • swccclleemmnnssuuws says:

They’re both the same height lying down.

  10. Bobbiesue says:

Happy for her! Congrats! Say what you want, for a child star with overbearing parents she has really moved seamlessly into adulthood. I really, really like her and I loved her singing with the Nashville crew.

    • Hautie says:

“…for a child star with overbearing parents she has really moved seamlessly into adulthood…”

I wonder if Hayden had basically cut her parents out of her business life. There was a point when she was in her late teens… things were not great for her. Very messy behavior from her and the parents.

I had suspected when she started dating Wladimir, that her private life seem to get cleaned up. He seems to have been a stable and positive influence on her daily life. Plus no more messy public drama of her parents, in the gossip magazines.

      • I think so too. The only thing I’ve heard about her, that was bad, was that she thought she was a bigger deal than the rest of her castmates at ‘Heroes’ (the tv show), and so that’s why she wasn’t offered a part in the reboot (or whatever they’re doing with it)…other than that? You don’t hear from her unless she’s promoting something. And my mom said she’s really good in ‘Nashville’ (keep meaning to watch it).

      • Kenny Boy says:

I heard some rough stuff about her back in the day, but she’s been very low key in her twenties. I didn’t realize how much I liked her until I saw all of these sexist comments about how she’s too young (25 is a fully grown adult) or too stupid (based on what? because she’s blond?) for Wladmir, but now I’m rooting for her.

  11. GeeMoney says:

Hayden is such a talented girl… congrats to her and her fiance on their first baby.

  12. Amanda_M87 says:

If the baby takes after him in size, she’s going to have a difficult birth methinks.

    • CuriousCole says:

The first thought I had when I heard about this pregnancy was “Her back is going to kill!” This is almost certainly a c-section.

  13. smee says:

There seems to be a lot of hating on her on the interwebs (not sure why), but I really like her in Nashville. She makes a great “villain” on the show and she seems very competent as an actress.

A big deal is made about their size difference, but it’s the age difference that is a little more concerning to me……..in any case, congrats and I hope she stays in N’ville!!

    • Lollipop says:

Yeah, the age difference bothers me more.

    • jaye says:

It seems like she’s always dated older men though. She dated Milo Ventimiglia when she was on Heroes and I think he was a good 15 years older than her. I think child stars mature faster because they are often put in mature situations all the time.

  14. Talie says:

I think he is really involved in Ukraine politics at the moment. He’s much more serious than he’s portrayed in our media.

  15. Becki says:

My brother in law is 6’3 & my sister in law is barely 5 foot. They’ve had two kids, both normal to small sized babies. I am hoping the same for Hayden!! Congrats to the couple 🙂

    • P.J. says:

Yup. My dad was 6’4 and my mom 5’2 on a good day 😄 I came out 5 lbs 6 oz so I don’t think anyone needs to worry that Hayden’s little one is going to come out a 6 foot tall giant!

    • SpookySpooks says:

Most tall guys I know go for short girls. And they look cute together.

    • judyjudy says:

I’m small and my husband is small and I wound up having two GIANT babies (9 lb & 10 lb)! It doesn’t always make sense.

      • Tiffany :) says:

My sister is like that as well. Both her and her husband are 5’5″, and they had two babies that were almost 10 lbs. The doctor told her she had an award winning placenta, because it was so robust. She had to have a c section because the child was too large to fit through the birth canal (head couldn’t get through after 16 hours of labor).

      • jaye says:

@Tiffany…well that’s a complement you don’t hear every day, lol! “You ma’am have an award winning placenta! It’s very robust!”. LOL

    • Kenny Boy says:

My brothers are 6’5 and 6’6…. one married a girl who’s 6’1, and the other one is dating a girl who’s 5 foot even! My husband and I are both 5’11, so I’m hoping we don’t have the shortest kids in the family.

  16. Kaylah says:

All I can think of is the fact that she’s 5’2 and he’s 6’6. Gosh, bless her heart. I can’t imagine popping out giant Klitschko babies. And she doesn’t have those “child bearing hips” either. She’s quite lean. Bless her.

  17. aenflex says:

That man is so super hot. Jesus.

  18. Patricia says:

    Wow.

If this isn’t love I don’t know what is.

    Congratulations you crazy kids!!!

    I adore them both!

  19. P.J. says:

    “Hayden is totally pregnant!”

Again, what 13 year old girl is on payroll as the anonymous “source” for all these ridiculous and nauseatingly written articles?

Every time I read any given baby or relationship announcement in that magazine it looks like they visited an English class at a local middle school to have it written. (What adult actually speaks this way??) Give me a f’ng break 😂

  20. The Original Mia says:

Happy for her. I think they are cute together, but yeah…that’s going to be a big baby. Ouch.

  21. shelley says:

Aww, congrats to her! I really like her and think she’s adorable. I love her on Nashville.

  22. Lionbdadddy says:

She’ cute and he’s extremely handsome, they are gonna have an amazing looking baby. Congrats to them.

  23. booboobird says:

My husband’s 6’2″ and I’m no butterfly at 5’7″ but sometimes I’d get a stiff neck just looking at him. This is like a giant fairy tale quite literally.
The picture with both of them making a heart with their hands. Just no.

    • Delta Juliet says:

I thought that was dumb too but then I noticed the background behind them has hearts on it. I can’t read the words written on there but maybe it has something to do with that?

      • Norman Bates' Mother says:

The sign says “A heart for children” in German so it actually makes sense. The picture was taken at a charity event.

  24. Kenny Boy says:

I am uncomfortable with how some people here are focusing on the use of the adverb “totally” to modify “pregnant”. I have seen several individuals use this benign choice of words to make sexist comments about the vernacular of young women. “Totally” is how some people express excitement or intensity. In this case, it’s used to show that the pregnancy is a cause for celebration and not concern, which is how adverbs should be used: to give context and color to a adjective. It’s a commonplace colloquial expression that I use frequently in casual language, as do most of my 20something friends, who include scientists, bilingual PhDs, and award-winning writers. Language evolves, and people should get over it.

Getting off my high horse… they’re a cute couple and I like them. Good for them.

    • Ange says:

Yeah everyone knows what it means, they just think it’s stupid. Thanks for the oversplain though.

  25. Lucy2 says:

All of their photos together look Photoshopped, their sizes are so different.
I never really cared for her before Nashville, but she is pretty great on that show. And pretty good singer as well.
