Rihanna in Adam Selman at the CFDAs: stunning or too exhibitionist?

Rihanna

Rihanna won the Fashion Icon Award at last night’s CFDAs. Everyone was so excited to see RiRi on the red carpet. Mary-Kate Olsen, James Marsden, and Jennifer Hudson were all fangirling their excitement. What would she wear? The answer is … nothing. Rihanna wore a very expensive nothing. She walked the red carpet essentially naked in an Adam Selman fishnet dress. Transparence city. Rih’s nips were out, and her entire booty was on display. She was covered in over 200,000 Swarovski crystals, but you could still see everything. Rihanna used a pink fur shrug to “cover” her downtown modesty, but god. It looks like she’s wearing panties from the front, but there isn’t even a thong in the back. You can see the unblurred pics here.

Something nice: The matching headscarf and RiRi’s smile are gorgeous. Adam Selman talked to Style.com about his “scandalous” creation: “Fashion is about beauty, and the [female] body is part of that.” Let’s get real — Rihanna just wanted to get naked.

Rihanna

Karlie Kloss put on some scroll down fug in Band of Outsiders. The top of this dress looks like something Taylor Swift would wear to a Fourth of July celebration. The bottom half looks like a satin nightie, and I don’t know what’s up with those gladiator sandals.

Karlie Kloss

Olivia Wilde wore vintage Mollie Parnis. I usually like what Olivia wears, but something about the styling of this dress leaves me cold. Maybe it’s the heavy hair throwing things off? The fringe is also heavy but seems necessary to the dress. The hair adds too much weight. A messy, angular updo would have been best.

Olivia Wilde

Chrissy Tiegen wore Rachel Roy, and I really like this outfit. Chrissy can pull off so many different vibes. She played it safe here but looks really classy. This little dress and jacket are cute and sophisticated.

Chrissy Teigen

Greta Gerwig looked amazing in Zac Posen. I can’t believe I love a Zac Posen design! The tangerine color is unexpected, and the gown drapes so well. She looks stunning.

Greta Gerwig

Alessandra Ambrosio wore Nonooo dress, and that’s how I felt about this dress: Noooooo. This is cheap, satiny, Real Housewives-grade fug. What are all those bunches around the hips? This dress cannot be saved.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Karen Elson wore a gold Michael Kors dress. She’s showing tons of skin, but somehow it’s not scandalous. Well done.

  1. See this is why I would hate to be a man at one of these things (Riri’s dress)….as a woman, I know the first thing I’d be looking at is her chest, and I don’t know if I would be able to tear my eyes away….

    • MCraw says:

I don’t even tell guys I know about her anymore, lol she’s ALWAYS flashing her nips!

Her body is amazing, the net hanging on her body is beautiful, even the bedazzled du-rag is great…. But…. I just can’t support this. Rihanna doesn’t exhibit “style” here, she’s exhibiting what she does best: shock people.

I don’t know why a woman being naked in public is cause for celebration (as they were doing on social media last night). That would have been a clear cry for help from any other person.

      • Amanduh says:

Agreed. I would love to hear what a psychologist/behaviourist would have to say about this type of attention-seeking behaviour.

    • Lisa says:

Riri’s dress, she looks stunning, but that do rag on her head is like they didn’t want to waste that last patch of material!

      • Godwina says:

Respectfully disagree. The headscarf evokes an era that matches the dress column silhouette (20s flapper or 70s Euro revival with the longer hemline–if you’re a fan of late 60s/early 70s Italian art horror or genre cinema, and that style of fashion in general–I am eating it up!), along with the gloves. I’m not a fan of hers but I think she looks like a goddess and that designer knows something about fashion history and how to 2014 it up. The whole overall look is perfectly thought out and she pulls.it.off. Fashion that makes art of the human body as well as its own fabric lines, in symbiosis. Wow.

It’s so palpably amazingly Edwige Fenech that I am aflutter and agog. Love.

      • Val says:

@Godwina – Love your post! Made me dream a little.

      • Trillion says:

totally w/ you Godwina. Great comment. Ri rocked it to heaven and back.

  2. Dawn says:

I couldn’t and I wouldn’t wear that in a million years. That is all I have. She is totally comfortable in her own skin so I guess that counts for something!

    • LadyMTL says:

I agree, she looks so comfortable and I’m jealous, lol…I have nowhere near that level of confidence. I guess this proves that she really can wear “nothing” and still look amazing.

  3. tifzlan says:

I… don’t hate it. She honestly looks stunning.

    • Dani2 says:

I don’t hate it either, see what I love about Rihanna on the red carpet is that the outfit never wears her, she’s so full of confidence and I kinda love that.

      • T.C. says:

I’m not usually into a nude Redcarpet display but this works. She looks lovely instead of trashy. It fits the event too. Fashion icon.

Like Chrissy Tiegen’s dress best out of the other ladies.

      • Camille (The Original) says:

Agree with the above comments ^. On anyone else this wouldn’t have worked, but I kind of think she really pulls this off…

      • Julia says:

I don’t hate it either but gosh, Riri has some serious issues – she just HAS TO show everything she’s got all the time. Attention whore? It somehow reminds me of an early Madonna.
But yes, she looked beautiful and I’d stare at her 🙂 and that’s what it was all about. Attention.

      • Amanduh says:

@ Julia: One could correlate her attention-seeking antics and the tumultuous relationship she had with her father.
Some theories speculate that the relationship you have with your father is the model for future relationships you’ll have with men. If her Dad was abusive and an addict (as she’s claimed), she may be seeking out male attention the only way she knows how.
*Just a theory, it doesn’t apply to everyone, blah blah blah…

    • Nicolette says:

Strangely enough I don’t hate it either. But I do think she would have looked just as stunningly beautiful if the dress had been lined with a nude colored slip. It still would have been fabulous, she still would have looked gorgeous but without showing us everything.

      • Abby says:

This. She’s gorgeous and so is the dress. I would have loved how classy the outfit would have been with a nude dress underneath.

    • HH says:

Same here. I think it’s because there’s so much Hollywood trickery into making us think someone has a great body, such as spanx and other undergarments, but Rihanna’s dress truly says “I woke up like this.” Haha.

    • LeahMommy says:

I don’t hate it either, in fact, I might even love it. Her body is on point and she has the most exquisite face, her and Angelina Jolie have such unique and beautiful faces.

      • Nonny says:

You wouldn’t catch Angelina Jolie walking the red carpet but with ass and ta ta’s on display though would you? It’s called class!

      • LeahMommy says:

@Nonny…You definitely wouldn’t see Angie walking the red carpet looking like this because it is not her style and she does not have the body for it either. I was just complimenting their faces.

      • FLORC says:

        Leah
I full agree. On faces alone both women have no bad angles. They wake up gorgeous.
And I don’t hit this at all. It’s almost expected at this point and it’s more shocking when RiRi comes covered up.

Olivia looks terrible. Awful styling. Same with AA. Her time has past. I always imagine that giant cane used to pull performers off stage hooking her. Bow out.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

I also don’t hate it. Also, great ass.

      • MollyB says:

Mmmhmm. I mean, come on. If I had that body, I’d wear that every day. Grocery store. Gym. DMV. Every day.

      • MollyB says:

Mmmhmm. I mean, come on. If I had that body, I’d wear that every day. Grocery store. Gym. DMV. Every day.

      • Camille (The Original) says:

Her ass is cray (in a completely amazing way). Best body in Hollywood I’d say.

    • msw says:

Same. I usually don’t appreciate nudity based clothing, but this is interesting, artistically, at least to me. YMMV. It feels like the nudity is not the only purpose of the dress, which is how I usually see these kinds of pieces. I love the headpiece with it. If it was appropriate for the occasion (I have no idea), no big deal.

If I saw this in a photograph, I’d probably be blown away.

    • Samtha says:

I agree. If I looked like her, I would be tempted to do the same, to be honest!

    • Diana says:

She is a goddess. Her body is off the chain and I’ve never seen her look uncomfortable ever. I will always have a soft spot for riri.

    • Francis says:

She’s gorgeous. Can’t even hate on her, she owns her sheerness and nakedness.

    • Maria of MD says:

Wish that wasn’t fur she was traipsing around in though.

    • delorb says:

I think it makes her look desperate. Whatever happened to letting your talent speak for itself? Oh, right. Carry on.

  4. Loopy says:

Oh Riri, she is obviously this generations Madonna, one year at the MET i think Madonna wore some corset with her boobs out.

  5. Kali says:

Is areola on the red carpet really necessary?

    • NeoCleo says:

Totally with you!! She is so beautiful but she just really lacks elegance. The dress would have been glorious without being sheer and still would have showed off her beautiful build.

      She has everything but class.

    • delorb says:

One day she’s going to do a red carpet with a RED CARPET! LMAO!

  6. merski says:

What is the point of a visible slip if your T&A are hanging out? I don’t know – maybe a different colour underwear would be better? Or none at all? If you’re gonna make a statement….
She does have a bangin’ body, tho. Holy crap.

    • GiGi says:

I totally agree! The only part of this that actually bothers me is the underwear. If you’re going for it, go for it!

    • Steph says:

Amazingly this was also my problem with the look. I actually like it and it doesn’t feel trashy to me personally. But why wear a panty that is so visible? Why not have just gone full commando? Or just something else? I hate that visible underwear!

    • Tiffany :) says:

I agree. I prefer soft pink over beige, because beige always end up looking kind of dirty.

    • MourningTheDeathOfMusic says:

Or if not to go full-on, just a small, triangular patch which matches her skin ton perfectly.

  7. Maria says:

Rihanna’s a beautiful girl, but I’m getting sick of her antics. I’d like to see her give a decent vocal performance for once in her life. Isn’t she supposed to be a singer?

  8. Laura says:

All I have to say is.. That body. If I had that body I’d have ditched the dress and fur.

    • AlexandraJane says:

That was my thought too! Good lord

    • sally says:

So, it’s acceptable to walk around naked in public when you have a “bangin” body? Sorry, no. Put some clothes on.

      • Laura says:

Totally fine with me! Doesn’t affect me at all.

      • FLORC says:

She is a performer. It’s kind of her thing to be barely dressed and have twitter beefs. She depends on herself and is only promoting herself. I might say otherwise if I had a small child who wanted to emulate her, but I don’t so I’m not.

    • grace says:

Nah, you really wouldn’t. People with such self-confidence and lack of common sense like Rihanna are rather rare.
I’m convinced that people can be sexy, confident and show their amazing bodies with some clothes on.

  9. Buckwild says:

I thought Rihanna looked stunning. For some reason I’m not even offended at the nudity, probably because it’s all been seen before. Her eyes looks great with that makeup as well.

    • Francis says:

I agree, she looks stunning. Her nakedness is just Her being her wild open naked self. She’s a performer so it doesn’t really irk me.

  10. GiGi says:

I actually loved Rihanna’s whole look. Stunning!

  11. Ali J says:

    Trash covered in diamonds

    • iskra says:

      +1000000

    • Emma says:

My sister described it as “formal, deluxe cling-wrap, the kind you would use to wrap up leftovers for Elton John”. Which of course devolved into a discussion about whether Elton would accept leftovers, and if so, what would entice him the most. Dress: not awful, but I wouldn’t wear it even with that body.

  12. A.Key says:

    Stunning!!!

I can’t believe you covered her body, ahahahahahaha, oh god, so much for freedom…

    • msw says:

Freedom? Please. You are completely free to click on the link to unblurred pics, conveniently placed in the article, and ogle her bits on another site. People read this site at work, where looking at nude pictures on your lunch break can be a problem, or get the entire site blocked.

      • A.Key says:

And why exactly do people read a gossip blog site at work??? Please right back at you and say hi to your boss.

      • delorb says:

Reading a GOSSIP site is not the same as looking at NUDE pictures. Jeez. Love her or hate her, but don’t confuse what this site is about.

  13. TX says:

Well, on the one hand the dress is just stunning. On the other hand, we don’t need to see Riri’s boobs as much as she seems to think we do.

Meh. Doesn’t get me riled up. There’s a lot more to be angry about than boobs. *shrugs*

  14. Dani2 says:

Karlie could actually BE Taylor Swift, I find it weird how they look so alike these days.

    • kri says:

WTF is everyone else wearing? It looks like they were grabbed off the street and were told they either had to eat carbs forever or wear this mall shit.

  15. Hissyfit says:

It was a nice dress ruined by her t!ts. She has a killer body but that was too much for a red carpet. She should’ve saved it for a music video ala Britney in toxic.

  16. Lara K says:

Riri is a lovely girl with a great body, true.

But there is something to be said about class. Why show everything just for shock value? Is this all she thinks she’s worth? Kinda sad.

Also, is it just me, or is she totally ripping off Britney Spears (who btw looked way classier in her sequin suit)…

    • ORLY says:

She still has her vag on lockdown, so I don’t think she’s shown “everything”.
I love her confidence and sense of freedom.
      Good for her. 🙂

    • A.Key says:

Well unlike “classy” Britney, Rihanna at least wears underwear.

  17. Lucinda says:

I’m not offended. Just annoyed. She wanted to be naked. So quit playing around and just walk the carpet naked and be done with it. This was the perfect way to make sure she was the only one remembered and if that’s the legacy you want, well….whatever.

    • SpookySpooks says:

Yeh, I’m not offended, I just don’t get it. It’s so attention grabbing.

  18. FingerBinger says:

I like it. Rihanna is young, pretty and she has the body for it. Why not?

  19. QQ says:

    She Looks ABSOLUTELY S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G

20s Modern Josephine Baker, Owning her sexuality, Fashion Forward Mouthwateringly good, Glittery Sorry I cant even bother with anyone else in this post at all..Ugh If I had That body you couldn’t get me clothed either

True story: I posted EVERY angle I found on it to my Tumblr and me and my gfs just kept at it all night tearing our garments at her amazing ass also I think we all gymmed last night because of Dat Ass! (No srly even my fitbit threw me a party about it!) My Best dressed of the night, RiRi Gives not a fuck

    • ORLY says:

      Indeed!

    • reba says:

Wow, Josephine baker is what came to my mind, too, I thought Rihanna is trying to channel her.

    • sputnik says:

yes! totally reminded me of josephine baker. rihanna looks stunning. her body, her confidence and that beautiful dress. spectacular.

    • grace says:

Yet JB wore similar clothes on her shows, not an a red carpet/official event. Alas!

    • Kenny Boy says:

Did you see that she tweeted a tribute to Ms Baker?? Intentional homage. I love it.

  20. nicegirl says:

Well, Rihanna sure is pretty on the outside

  21. harpreet says:

See, I don’t have an issue with her nudity, it is her body, and if she wants to rock, go for it,

But, I really think this would’ve worked at a night-time event. The daylight ruins the dress, Also a fur stole in summer?

    • kimber says:

I said, “fur… during the day ..this time of year?”
She looks good and maybe her body clock told her it was night time??

  22. Zen1016 says:

I’m not surprised. I often wonder how her mother feels when she sees pics like these. Or what her brothers think to see their sister’s bits hanging out all the time, no doubt people throw them shade for their sister’s antics. Also I wonder what Rihanna’s going to feel looking back on these pictures years from now. She’s looks very pretty from the neck up but other than that she looks like she’s wearing a negligee. There’s no point to the dress, should have just shown up in the fur & her panty. Anyway each to their own… By now we’ve all come to associate nudity with Rihanna just like we associate wackiness with Lady GaGa. They’re all desperately seeking attention.

    • Ange says:

If I were like Rihanna and wanted to wear that dress I couldn’t give one flying f*ck what my mother or brothers thought of it. It’s my body, not theirs.

  23. Eleonor says:

Rihanna nipples on display. How unexpected.
    Her body is crazy.
If you have to show your bum that’s the way to do it. I’ll take this over Duchess Kate Marilyn moment 1000 times.

  24. Micah says:

Apparently areola is the “new” black.

Trust me, I’m no prude, and she has lovely tits….but do we need to see them get an award and walking the red carpet.

  25. BReed says:

Why bother to dress? Just show up naked.

  26. smee says:

Stunning – looks like an Erte! She’s this era’s Josephine Baker. I agree with someone early – she’s very comfortable in her own skin, which is nice.

Karen Elson looks pretty great in the Kors gold dress.

  27. I Choose Me says:

All I have to say is that her body is amazing. Is it over the top? Sure. But that’s pretty much par for the course for Rihanna. I just can’t hate this girl.

  28. Kate says:

I love it. And I’ll never understand why a woman’s nips can cause such a fuss but it’s totally fine to have shirtless men on mag covers.

  29. eliza says:

Save a sequin. Go naked. Why bother with clothes at all?

Great she is confident but to me the dress screams “look at MEEEEEEE! I need attention”.

    • Sighs says:

Exactly. That’s great she’s confident, she’s got a great body. But skip the pretense and just go naked with the fur. We all know she’d keel over if everyone wasn’t talking about her.

Chrissy Tiegen, OTOH, looks perfect. So classy and adorable.

  30. kri says:

@Em ITA. When I was younger, I lived by that philosophy. You may as well have fun and show off while everything is still in the right place!! I know the crystal haze dress is the big deal here, but for me, it’s her face. Her eyes are lovely, and the make-up is perfect. Get ’em, Riri!!

  31. nugget822 says:

Rihanna really is beautiful, and while I could never pull off that dress, she worked the hell out of it I think. Like, it’s not just her body, her face and confidence add to it too.
Also, Chrissy Teigen looks amazing and I want her legs!

    • Lorelei says:

Her body is great but honestly, nipples or no nipples, I can’t take my eyes of her face. The eye makeup is absolutely flawless and in combination with that headscarf …PERFECTION!

      • Tiffany :) says:

I agree. It says a lot when a woman is showing complete T&A, yet you can’t take your eyes off her face.

  32. lucy2 says:

    I love Greta’s dress.
Rihanna’s constant need to shock gets tiresome.

  33. Alex_r says:

She’s stunning. I love the dress. She definitely has a fabulous body. Certainly inspired me to hit the gym tomorrow.

  34. in_theory says:

Why doesn’t she just go naked and get it over with? The fact that in this age of sex and nudity practically everywhere people like Rihanna still think that revealing clothes are titillating at all just seems so parochial to me.

  35. TheOriginalKitten says:

I NEED Chrissy Tiegan’s whole outfit. She looks great.

  36. drea says:

Riri showing her nips and ass? Ya don’t say…

We’ve seen her do it so often, it’s not really all that exciting anymore. But hey, she knows how to generate publicity.

  37. Damaris says:

It’s over top, but her body though … She looks marvelous. Only Rihanna could get away with it.

  38. Cidee says:

Go RiRi. I think she looks STUNNING.

  39. msw says:

Kate is commissioning her next tour wardrobe with the designer as we speak 😉

  40. TJ says:

FYI Olivia wore a vintage dress which was originaly owned by Anjelica Huston! Anjelica wore it in Cannes in 1974! So basically Olivia recycled a 40 year old dress last night. Here are some of the detalis.
    http://www.becauseiamfabulous.com/2014/06/olivia-wilde-wearing-decades_-vintage-mollie-parnis-2014-cfda-fashion-awards/
(Olivia had a PSA campaign a few weeks ago about recycling clothes, so maybe that was one of the reason she decided to wear this dress last night)

I think she looked absolutely fantastic. (Don’t forget she gave birth 6 weeks ago!)

  41. Whatwhatnot says:

Irony is, this is the body I had all through my late teens, and through my early-mid 20’s and I wasn’t impressed. I thought I was too skinny and needed more curves. Like just “basic slim”. So I guess when I see Rihanna, as lovely as she looks, I’m like “eh” about her figure.

Also, I think the bright camera flashes make the dress look a bit more “vulgar” for lack of a better term that it does in person. The lights catching on the sequins/crystals blur out some of the nudity and in other pics I’ve seen the dress looks beautiful and not as scandalous.

  42. Mingy says:

She’s always gorgeous, but she’s giving me fortune teller vibes.

  43. Tania says:

While her body and face is beautiful. No to that dress with her nips. She looks tacky. I literally gasped when I saw her till I saw the pic in HQ.

  44. Rai-rai says:

Trash, trash, trash. It’s ironic that she’s literally covered in diamonds yet looks so incredibly cheap. If she wanted to be naked, why did she even bother with a ”dress”? I’ve seen hookers with less desire for exhibition.
On the plus side, she does make me feel better about my body.

  45. maria says:

are we sure drake dumped her? Maybe it’s the other way around? This seems like

Look at meeeeeeeeeeee LOOK AT WHAT YOU ARE MISSIIIIIIIIIIING!!!

or is it for Chris? *throws up*

  46. Hateonit. says:

Okay. Why the hell is this acceptable? Because she is Rihanna? Give me a effin break. This should not be acceptable no matter what. For goodness sakes she should’ve just walked naked honestly. Her whole body is on display at all times and people praise for it. It’s disgusting. Her body is nice yes, that’s true but whyyyyy do we all have to see it all the time. Her and Miley Cyrus need to run away together and stay away. Her dress could’ve been so classy if she wore something underneath. Her face looks gorgeous. But that’s it. I’m so annoyed that this is socially acceptable and we wonder why the youth thinks there’s no damn limits for them either. Look at what they see. Ew.

    • Ella says:

Why is it so disgusting and gross for a woman to show her body? I don’t get it. She was at a fashion event, not a kids’ party. Not on network TV, not in prime time when someone’s precious eyes could be scalded by nudity. Honestly, why is everyone in the US so worried about nudity? I think we might all be better off if we didn’t make such a fuss about seeing a nude body or hearing a naughty word or whatever. Worry about violence and corporate corruption or something that actually matters.

      • sputnik says:

i think she looks gorgeous and i genuinely don’t understand the pearl-clutching nipple phobia over it. it’s a fashion event. it’s not like she’s sauntering around walmart.

  47. Ruyana says:

She actually looks beautiful, but I don’t believe it’s necessary to display your primary and secondary sexual characteristics to be beautiful. She would have looked more sophisticated if the dress were less revealing – but then she wouldn’t stir up as much publicity.

  48. mar says:

    I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. Nene says:

Majority think Rihanna looks good but am certainly sure that if it were a busty celeb say Kim,Katy Perry or even Jolie the comments wouldn’t be so positive. Some would even be vicious and very vulgar.
    Talk about double standard.
Besides if Riri were busty she wouldn’t wear that outfit- am absolutely sure.
And yeah I know small chested women- myself included – can get away with almost any clothing but still leting it all hang out isn’t sexy on anyone imho.

    • Mingy says:

Good point. Not every one call pull this off. As a busty chick myself, I wish I could wear some skimpy tops in the summer without feeling like eyes are on me, even if they aren’t I’m not comfortable being on display.

    • Bridget says:

What makes it work on Rihanna is that sue OWNS her body and her sexuality. In her music, in her public persona, her nudity is a challenge, not an enticement – where with someone like Katy Perry, no matter what her lyrics say about female empowerment there’s a feeling that her image is intended for the male gaze.

      • Jess says:

Huh? I get the same feeling from Rihanna. It’s because she has a smaller chest. If she had a bigger chest, a lot of people WOULD think it was more vulgar. That’s just how it is.

      • Bridget says:

My point is, it isn’t the body that would make it vulgar so much as the wearer.

  50. Ella says:

To everyone saying, “you can see everything, so why not just go naked?” – the difference is that there’s an element of artistry and glamour in what she wore, compared to just being naked. Yes, you can see her bits, but that doesn’t mean that the dress isn’t adding anything to the look. I would argue that it is, because it’s more interesting to see Rihanna covered with sheer fabric & crystals (which is quite beautiful) than to see her stark naked. I don’t see why it’s a big deal — models in runway shows wear things that reveal their breasts and bums all the time. People in many countries are not so uptight about nudity and wouldn’t really bat an eye at someone wearing a see-through dress at a fashion event.

Everyone here is saying “She’s beautiful, but why is the nudity necessary?” — it’s not NECESSARY, but neither are most things in fashion/entertainment. Why does it have to be necessary? It just is what it is.

    • Selina says:

Right you are. She also makes everyone else look even more bland and basic in their choices than they already do.

  51. LMS says:

I love it. She wears it well and looks gorgeous. Beautiful dress, beautiful body.

  52. Source says:

What would be more shocking at this point is if she covered up. We get it. We really, really get it. I’ve seen her b00bs more than I’ve seen my own. Just google “Rihanna” and it’s b00bs, b00bs, b00bs, b00bs. It’s not shocking or original.

And I know people always say, “If I had that body, I’d walk around naked.” Meh. I like to leave something to the imagination.

  53. Janet says:

If she’s so proud of showing off her body, what’s with the nude panties? Why not leave them off and show the whole deal?

That dress is ridiculous. She looks like someone dressing up as a hooker on Halloween.

  54. TherapyCranes says:

She looks beautiful. It’s just nudity. Meh. I bet in person it’s an absolute stunning dress but the camera flashes make it seem very very nude. Don’t care either way, I think she exudes confidence and even though she’s practically naked she’s wearing the dress not vice versa.

  55. Hayley says:

It must be painful to be that desperate for attention. It would be exhausting waking up every day wondering how I could draw attention to myself today, to top the last pitifully desperate thing I did the last time. How does someone get so full of themself ?

    • MourningTheDeathOfMusic says:

It makes you wonder if she’s really lonely and empty inside.

  56. Bread and Circuses says:

On one hand, she’s always naked, and it’s tiresome in the way any attention-addict’s antics are tiresome.

On the other, she’s SO beautiful that I can’t think of anyone with a better reason to go naked than her. Dressed or undressed, she’s always glorious.

  57. Avilita says:

What’s this new trend on the red carpet? Men in suits and women showing up naked?

  58. Ennie says:

Very beautiful, but to be fair, would not like to see this type of behavior in a man, such as a person flossing everyone on the red carpet or wearing tiny thongs at the beach and sharing with everyone and then get angry because his naked body was on IG.
I think that if it was an editorial, a photoshoot, a catwalk, well, let it all hang out if you want, bt this? Very exhibitionist and … I do not know.
She is awesome looking, I repeat, I like some of her songs, but there are many things that are criticable about Riri.

  59. hmmm says:

Exhibitionism at its finest. The Duchess of Bumgate just fainted from envy.

She’s taking the fun and spice out of sexual allure and mystery, like p0rn does.

  60. Bridget says:

LOVE IT. I love that with Rihanna, her nudity is a challenging statement, like she knows that it can make people uncomfortable. It isn’t just that she has an amazing body, its that she more than any of her peers owns her sexuality. I love it so much.

  61. Ginger says:

I’m very modest personally so I always find Rihanna’s exhibitionism interesting because she’s so different from me. And my goodness she’s so gorgeous I’ve got nothing to complain about. I agree with some other posters that at this point it would be more shocking if she wore something demure.

  62. Jayna says:

Rihanna is the true edgy popstar in this whole group. She is stunning. She has beautiful skin and body. And she is just what she seems, bad and good, not try-hardy like Miley. She can wear any of this stuff and I love it. She reminds me of young Madonna in that way, that it is a part of her pop star personality and is always intriguing to look at when out. That is exactly how Madonna was and owned her different looks.

Katy Perry just looks like she’s trying to be something and isn’t, nothing remotely really edgy about her. Gaga is just over the top and you never get the real her. Beyonce has a certain look and style and is beautiful, but not dangerous sexy and is kind of predictable.

This is the real Rihanna, comfortable within her own skin in her fashion and exudes a sexuality that isn’t delicate in the least but never feels false when she wears something like this.

  63. Megan says:

IDK, showing up basically naked to collect the fashion icon of the year award is kind of saying “it’s all about me, not the fashion.”

  64. NAS says:

Goes without saying she is stunning…absolutely! This look is for behind closed doors, but not in the minds of those that have forgotten the importance of modesty. End of days…women appear in public dressed but are actually naked. Free pass to push the envelope shreds whats left of fabric of society. Any and everything goes. SAD. TO U UR WAY, TO ME MINE. SHAME I HAVE TO READ SO MANY IN SUPPORT OF PUBLIC NUDITY.

    • ORLY says:

You don’t have to read it, you’re choosing to.
It’s amazing how many people have a problem with nudity, yet some of those same people have no complaints about guns and the violence that assaults us in media all the time.

      • Felice says:

I’m gonna throw this out there and say that people were saying this in the mid-2000s where crop tops were paired with micro mini skirts. We started to cover up more again in the 2010s. I think there will always be a time where people think we are ‘getting more naked’ but it’s just something that happens every fashion decade.

  65. Snowflake says:

This is not fashion forward or being sexually liberated, this is being desperate for attention. Just like Miley Cyrus, only diff is Rihanna is beautiful so people make excuses for her. You wanna be nude, go a nude beach with like minded individuals. I don’t wanna see your t & a, and you aren’t respecting Me when u show it. Just saying, I’m supposed to respect your right to be naked, how bout my right to not have to see it? This is in general, not just Rihanna. I see so much t & a at work , it’s ridiculous. I know this wasn’t work, but seriously, do you think all the people who saw Rihanna’s stuff wanted to see it? Phage some respect for other people, u can be naked in your own home? I used to think she was sexually liberated and I liked that. But more and more it seems desperate. Like that’s all she has to offer.

    • Selina says:

      Bedhead writes:

Adam Selman talked to Style.com about his “scandalous” creation: “Fashion is about beauty, and the [female] body is part of that.” Let’s get real — Rihanna just wanted to get naked.

They’re not mutually exclusive, though. If I want to show off the beauty of a gorgeous garment as well as flaunting how my body looks in it, I shouldn’t be forced to cover up what I’m proud of and is presented in this aesthetically pleasing way. Historically, designers send models down the runway in looks like this, so it was wholly appropriate for the event of celebrating fashion design.

Some people dislike PDA, for example, but like anything that doesn’t suit you, you have the right to keep it moving instead of fixating on it and shaming the person for asserting their rights as you are yours. There is no inherent shame in the female form, only that which others feel and project onto those who are just doing what suits them, like you’re doing what suits your more conservative, conventional sensibilities.

  66. Ice says:

She’s SO gorgeous; her face is just unbeliveable and she looks wonderful with the hair-net thing — neck up. The dress would have looked perfect if she’d worn a flesh-coloured, opaque slip. I’m not a prude at all but there’s a time and place for nudity.

  67. nikko says:

She’s a baaad motha (shut your mouth), well I’m talking about RiRi
(this is from a song when the words changed a little- hope you can guess what it is).

  68. livealot says:

Anyone remember Rose McGowan’s sheer black dress? (Swoon) Ilove it all , though I would have covered my nips

  69. babyb says:

she might like diamonds -as her song says- but man, she cheapens them to bedazzzler quality… she’s no marilyn. there is artful nudity (implied) and this…only pro is at least her head is covered…ready for church.

  70. OTHER RENEE says:

Oh puh-lease. She’s gorgeous but has absolutely no class.

If this were Miley or anyone else, everyone would be incredibly disgusted. This is as disgusting as Miley tweaking but people are choosing to call it artistic because it’s Rihanna. What a load of bull.

  71. Maple Goodness says:

The body is a piece of art. I think the body, breasts and all, are something to celebrate and I like the way Rihanna is celebrating her body. People feel it necessary to cover their body generally due the socially ingrained idea that your body is something shameful. It is not!! That indoctrination can be traced to the ideologies and belief systems that create culture. There is nothing wrong with seeing or showing the human body. I find it ridiculous that people consider it to be such an offense that a nude body is shown and adorned like this. We all have bodies, get over it. The only offensive thing here is the fur!

  72. Aly says:

She’s stunning, but fashion icon she is NOT. This isn’t fashion, this is another excuse for her to get nearly naked in public and distract from what an @sshole she is IRL. Her personality is awful from what I’ve seen and her attitude toward her fans is sad. Not a fan. She is incredibly overrated these days. I used to be a big supporter of her, but girl went downhill fast..

  73. Jade says:

I am conflicted. She looks beautiful as always, her face is her best asset. But would it still be fashion forward and artistic if a senior person, a less beautiful person, a man, or the Kims, Lil Kims, Paris or Mileys of the entertainment industry was wearing the equivalent?

  74. Vera says:

    RiRi wins.

  75. Kaylen says:

NOPE. A confident person does NOT need this level of constant attention.

    • Kimberly says:

Exactly Kaylen, but apparently most people are unable to see that about her.

  76. Kimberly says:

I really used to love this chick but I’m turned off now.

If someone with a less attractive body wore this, then there would be a string of negative comments calling the woman a pig, and she should be ashamed of herself….etc.

But because it’s Rihanna (bad girl RiRi ughhh) and most ppl consider her to be a hot badass, with a decent body……then it’s ACCEPTABLE right? What a double standard and a horrible one to.

I don’t have a problem with nudity but there is a time a place for everything but then again this girl doesn’t know her limits.

And she tries to give her fans the impression that she doesn’t care what ppl. say about her….. BUT she does, and it reflects in the way she CRAVES the attention.
She knew that by wearing this dress that she would be the main focus of this event be taking away all the attention away from the other female celebs there. She was already being given an award, but I guess that wasn’t enough right?

If she is so confident about herself, why does she ALWAYS do controversial stuff? Just because she’s willing to display her body, doesn’t mean that she’s the most conifident person out there.

Lil Kim used to dress trashy like this back in the day but she lacked a lot of self confidence.

Sorry for ranting so much. Just had to get this off of my chest.

  77. GiGi says:

Does anyone know if she works out a lot? I just wonder how much effort she puts into looking like this or she is just this naturally toned. I know she smokes …
