Robert Pattinson: ‘All I do with my week is wait ’til Sunday so I can watch GoT’

Here are some photos of Robert Pattinson out and about in NYC yesterday. He was in New York to promote The Rover with Guy Pearce. Sparkles is getting great reviews for his supporting performance in The Rover, and when he sat down with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, they talked about how this is pretty much the first time Rob has ever been a critics’ darling. To his credit, Rob never tries to play the “I never read reviews” game that so many actors play. He fully admits that he reads the reviews, good and bad:

“The good ones only stay with you for about three seconds, and then the bad ones — you know all their names for the rest of your life… I know there are some reviewers who just don’t like me. It’s nothing to do with the movie; they just figure out anything. They’re not even watching the movie.”

Rob also told MTV News that he’s obsessed with Game of Thrones (he probably knows some of those actors): “My entire week, all I do, genuinely all I do with my week is wait ’til Sunday so I can watch Game Of Thrones. And if I don’t enjoy the episode, it will ruin my next week.” TELL ME MORE. No, seriously. I want to talk about GoT with Robert. I want to know who he loves and who he hates and if he cried when the Mother of Dragons and the Breaker of Chains had to chain up her dragons.

I’m including one of the MTV videos below, and Rob and Guy did a joint GMA interview yesterday too – you can see it here.

I’m actually starting to like him.

    Stars: They’re just like us!

  3. Farah says:

I like that Rob has dropped trying to be a leading man (for now). He picks small supporting roles with an interesting cast and good directors. His movies may be hit or miss right now, but it’s what going to get him far in the long run. And I do think he’s going to last. He’s never going to be another Leo, but he’ll be a character actor who works often. WIth his Twilight money, he probably doesn’t need to be Leo.

I think it’s a smart strategy. He’s proving he’s a good and reliable actor to the industry and if the film “fails” it’s not his fault. He could very easily work on his craft for the next couple of years and try for A-list leading man later. Slow and steady wins the race.

  4. Roberta says:

“Sorry this video is unavailable from your location”. Thanks MTV

  5. GlimmerBunny says:

Me too, Sparkles, me too. HOW WILL WE MAKE IT ALMOST A FULL YEAR UNTIL SEASON 5??? 😀

  6. Esmom says:

Love him and his droll commentary. I find it extremely endearing.

  7. Tig says:

I love his interviews! And have to respectfully disagree with “leading man” issues- but if he’s happy with supporting roles, so be it. I am looking forward to Life. Has anyone heard of chance of it being at any of fall film festivals?

  8. eliza says:

My mom and I were discussing the same thing last week.

Now what do we do??????? 🙁

Rob scores more points with me for the second time in a week.

  9. Allie says:

You win, Rob, you always do. I officially have a crush on you.

  10. Nicolette says:

    Simply charming and adorable.

  11. GeeMoney says:

Sparkles likes GoT??? He just shot up 500 points in my book.

  12. jess says:

I am probably the only person who doesnt watch game of thrones so can someone tell me whats all the obsession about?

    • Sarah says:

the only way to know is to watch it. no words could describe it fully.

    • Meggie says:

Join us…..give iiiiinnnnn…..just try it once, it won’t hurt you.

    • Kali says:

Boobs+sex+dragons+violence+politics+death/carnage on a fairly epic scale.

Just a stock standard tv show, really.

    • Judy says:

You aren’t the only one. I gave up my tv about five years ago, and find it incredibly freeing. We used to have a tv in each bedroom and the family one, now we have one flat screen in the family room, we got rid of cable and the kids watch netflix or play games on it. But is mostly off. I find now that they are not unduly influenced by Disney, Nick, E, and all the other trash they used to watch. No American idol or the Voice etc. They’re more discerning with their tv choices and will watch a season of Psych or Scrubs or Dr. Who. I like it. We have a radio in the kitchen which is mostly on NPR. I find I’m less angry without CNN, MSNBC etc in my life. I get pop news from Celebitchy.

      • xpreson says:

Judy, I don’t really have a tv either… but I am hooked on game of thrones so I watch online!

  13. Anname says:

It’s pretty funny how he gets away with saying that some reviewers just don’t like him. Normally that would sound like sour grapes, but he has that weird charm and that big smile, and it just works. And, there is a hint of truth in what he says – sometimes it’s just a personal dislike, and nothing is ever good enough, especially for the Twilight guy.

    • PunkyMomma says:

Spot on, Anname. Some reviewers can’t be objective about him and it shows in their reviews. Rob handled that beautifully.

      • magpie says:

Yeah, but there’s also been films where he just wasn’t that good either.

      • PunkyMomma says:

@Magpie. Yes, Bel Ami was cringeworthy but Rob has shown consistent growth as an actor. He’s working at his craft and it shows. He may never be a Daniel Day Lewis but he’s slowly carving out a niche for himself.

      • Anname says:

Not quite what Rob was talking about, but I think this is interesting –
Take this comment from a reviewer:
…Pattinson, on the other hand, mumbles through a role that could have been much more in the hands of someone wry and wounded. (Joel Kinnaman, who balanced boyish charm and a contemplative mind on The Killing, could have owned the part.) With a squirrelly voice and difficult-to-pin-down accent, Pattinson looks like he’s trying too hard to wrap his head around the character’s speech patterns and fails to bring Rey the agency that could actually give the man a say in the story…
This reviewer’s comments aren’t really about Rob’s performance, but more about how the character was written. Rey is not supposed to be wry at all, he is supposed to have trouble getting his words out, and he was not written to have that much say in the story, other than his unpredictability.

Same thing with Peter Bradshaw who somehow decided that the Rey role was originally written for Joel Edgerton – despite the director’s repeated statements about Rey being a lost kid (not a 40 yr old man). Nothing Rob could do to impress him when he thinks it should be a different type of character.

He’s such a cutie, I really hope they’ll offer him more good movies.

  15. Lucy says:

Cutest press tour ever. And I love that he loves GoT! I wonder who’s his favorite character.

  16. Tig says:

@ Punkymomma- agree that RP was too young for that role, but the women in Bel Ami were great, as were the costumes! So if like me you like period films, it’s great! And don’t get me started on the costumes in Belle- just breathtaking!

    • PunkyMomma says:

The women were tremendous. Oh and the costumes. The corsets, too. The wardrobe was outstanding. And it was lovely to look at, just turn the volume off.

  17. Slacker says:

I love Sparkles. Maybe i will actually see this movie. He is a huge cutie.

  18. lunchcoma says:

Now I want to hang out with him and talk about GoT too.

He’s been awfully cute and relatable recently. I’m almost inclined to change my assessment of him from indifference to some sort of mild liking.

  19. Moi says:

Robert Pattinson and I have this very much in common. All week “okay, four more days, three more days……”.

I have always thought of him like I have any other actor/actress made famous due to a big budget franchise, I think “Let’s see what they can do outside of that Franchise”. I liked him a lot in “Little Ashes”. He has much potential.
