Rihanna’s dad on leaked abuse photo: ‘It’s good & bad’ that it’s out

lifestyle11

Singer Rihanna’s father has made a statement to the press regarding the release of her beaten and bruised photo. He said it’s good and it’s bad that it’s out there. She deserved privacy as a victim of domestic violence. But he pointed out that it won’t let some people continue to think that the extent of her injuries had been exaggerated.

Rihanna’s father tells Usmagazine.com the leaked photo, allegedly of his daughter after her Feb. 8 altercation with Chris Brown, is “terrible.”

“Yeah, I saw it,” Ronald Fenty told Us in a telephone interview Friday morning. “It’s disturbing.”

The photo shows a female, who appears to be Rihanna, with bruises and cuts on her forehead, lips and cheeks.

Fenty said people now will be able to “grasp the situation a lot better.

“It’s good and it’s bad to see the picture because there’s other people who were thinking differently, that [Rihanna’s injuries] may not be that bad, just a little spank or a little thing.”

Los Angeles Police have launched an internal investigation Thursday to determine who leaked the photo.

As Celebitchy pointed out, there are still people who will continue to deny that anything all that bad happened. I don’t understand how they manage to delude themselves, but some people need to function in a state of denial, and nothing will pull them out of that.

It is incredibly upsetting that Rihanna’s photo was released, and it means someone – or multiple someones – at the LAPD can obviously be bought. I truly hope they find that person and fire them. But it does shed light on just how severe this assault was, and just how much Chris Brown should be punished.

It’s just so horrible that this happened to her. That picture makes my stomach flip and tie itself in a knot. I do not buy that line of crap that she hasn’t ended it with him though. She seems like a strong enough woman even if she has gone back to him in the past if there have been previous fights. It’s just disgusting.

Now, I wonder how long it will take for the Chris Brown groupies to come in defending him even though the picture is ghastly. And three, two…

This is just one of these things that prove that this can happen to any body .

young, old, rich or poor ,famous or not it’s unfortunate that this goes on .

And its unbelievable how these teenybopper girls are still defending Chris Brown for his neanderthal act . It just boggles my mind , i wish i never saw that picture .

  3. Sauronsarmy says:

Its not just the police that are corrupt its the hospitals tto. Rememeber that whole Britney drama and how TMZ some how managed to get all kinds of details? That really needs to be stopped. I never could stand TMZ and I refuse to give their site any hits. Scum of the earth.

i really think it is wrong that the pictures got leaked. I cant imagine how horrifing it is to go through something like this on a personal level, or how embarrasing it is. THEN multliply it because the entire world knows..everyone is talking about it..and then, they all get to see the pictures. how is this OUR right? how is this something we are even part of or how do we even begin to feel justified in expresing our viewopoint on it? this isnt our life to be talking about. its things like this or drug addiction or death that really break my heart with publicity. These are peoples lives and they entertain for a living SURE but they do that on screen not in their everyday lives….i know my job stops when i go home to some extent. i know my private life is private and i really think its wrong that we feel we are privy to such information. Where are the boundaries??

  5. Sauronsarmy says:

The problem I have with the picture is that they were released without HER consent.

  6. Ron says:

Having grown up in a house with an abusive Father, I know that no matter how much he begs or how many promises he makes, he WILL do this to her again. And if he is doing this he also mentally abusive to her as well. Often times you see women go back because they have children and don’t want to break the family, or because they dont think they deserve any better–esteem issues, or for monetary reasons. Rhianna might have esteem issues, who knows, but she has reason to return and I hope she kicks his ass to the curb and presses every charge she can. Unless she pulled a gun, there is no excuse for this. There are better emn out there and I know she will find one who will ove and cherish her not love and beat her.

  7. Ron says:

Has NO reason to return…. I type too damn fast.. Edit please. 🙂

I feel so bad for her; leaking the photo has been a total disregard for her privacy in a traumatic time. That being said, I can understand what her dad is saying, that there’s some benefit in showing the real extent of her injuries.

I’m with you, Sauronsarmy. It was her call to make and hers alone.

  9. NotBlonde says:

I think whoever released the photo needs to be seriously punished. This was released without Rihanna’s consent and it’s just a ridiculous invasion of privacy.

However, like her father said, it’s good and bad. Good in that the little girls who are defending Chris Brown can finally see what he actually did to her. It made me sick looking at the picture. It reminded me of my mom when she had to take pictures like that for the police after my dad beat her and ran.

  10. Lizbeth says:

I really wonder who released this photo…there have been rumblings all week that she was getting back with him. So maybe someone close to the situation, on her side, decided to release the photo to create public pressure on Rihanna to dump him for good.

Abuse thrives on secrecy. Abusers can manipulate their victims much easier when no one knows what’s going on. Victims can justify the abuser’s actions when the only voices they hear are their own and the attacker’s. Having something like this in the open, while horribly invasive, may just be someone’s way of turing the tide of public opinion against Chris Brown and forcing Rihanna to see his actions for what they are.

    Just a thought.

  11. CG says:

I disagree with her father. The picture should not have come out but some people needed to see what Chris did to her and bring home how serious domestic abuse is.

I do have a big issue to what her father said that it was JUST a spank or a little something. That is NOT just a little something and even if it was, it still doesn’t make it right.

  12. CB Rawks says:

Yeah, maybe it was leaked BECAUSE so many morons have been defending Brown.

  13. ziggybutterfly says:

CG: do try to comprehend reading material before you comment.

  14. Jill says:

that’s not what he was saying. he said that now people could see that it was NOT “just a little spank”.

  15. czarina says:

What I would worry about is that, if this is proved to be released by a police officer (or anyone connected with the police) it will damage any case against Chris Brown in court. Yes, it is obvious evidence of abuse, but may no longer be admissable in court if it was used in such a public manner.

  16. hesus says:

even after the photo was posted on tmz, someone commented “i wonder if she did that to herself” still in denial of chris possibly beating her!

some people will never open their eyes, even with that kind of pic!

  17. Mandy says:

Personally, I think that the offense is not that the public is seeing the pictures, but the way in which they were published without the consent of Rihanna or her family. Abuse victims generally feel helpless enough as it is, and when the pics were leaked, it became yet another situation that was beyond her control. I’m glad that she has surrounded herself with supportive people, and we can’t praise her enough for having the courage to report the attack. To me, that’s the first sign that she is serious about getting Chris Brown out of her life for good, and ensuring that he answers for what he did.

  18. I see where her dad is coming from. I was beaten up pretty brutally by my ex(boyfriend at the time). He was lucky to get off with a small jail stint… it`s too bad that the state didn`t step up and prosecute correctly! I think people may not take these things as seriously as they could and it`s sad that it takes a celebrity situation for people to take notice. All of you people want to use your voice, you is to raise awareness for the 1,000`s of women who suffer from abuse daily!

  19. Bad Case of the Sads says:

There was 1 commenter on TMZ whose line of reasoning was “you don’t know he did that to her. it looks like she fell and hit her head o the street.” OMG it scares me that that animal is going to get some support… even if it’s just from the crazies.

  20. gg says:

One assumes there are at least a dozen other photos, and I’m thinking they may show a lot more from the sides of her face, closeups of her forehead and her neck bruising, than the one photo that was leaked. One is also ASSUMING that that pic that was released is from THIS particular incident instead of an earlier one … there may be a bunch more photos for all we know. I don’t want this guy acquitted and be OJ all over again.

  21. Compassion says:

I was so upset when a cousin of mine disregarded the immensity of the situation and said she didn’t care, she loved Chris Brown regardless. I can’t believe people will be so blind and try to rationalize what happened when the facts are so clear. A)Police records indicate a third party called in the incident proving that there was a witness to the abuse, so comments such as “she did it to herself” or “she called to get back at him” don’t apply. B)He turned himself in after being charged with the assault, then later bailed himself out with $50,000–if he didn’t commit the crime, then why would he give himself up. Even if his supporters deny it, obviously the police had strong basis to take him in. C)There is physical evidence in hospital records of her being admitted to a hospital that same night for days. She also cancelled concerts and a birthday. If it was a publicity stunt like some say, why would she go thru all that trouble and with bad timing (during the grammy’s and birthday). Then finally the best piece of physical evidence was the leaked photo. There’s no denying anymore the severity of his abuse. Unfortunately, Chris Brown supporters are still adamant in his defense! Why is ignorance so rampant in the youth today? It’s sick!
