Candace Cameron defends her 5-day cleanse after being told to ‘eat a steak’

Candace Cameron

Candace Cameron Bure will always be DJ Tanner from Full House to me. She’s all grown up now and recently made headlines on DWTS. Plus she talked about her semi-controversial submissive” marriage that is somehow not a dictatorship.

Cameron’s making waves again. This time, she riled up the masses by talking about her new cleanse on Facebook: “After a very indulgent week in Napa, I’m excited to kick off my 5 day cleanse with @eatpaleta today!! Shakes for breakfast & lunch, sensible snacks & a light veggie dinner!” The comments section went wild. Some folks accused her of having an eating disorder and told her to “eat a steak,” which is pretty rude. People are so judgy about other people’s eating habits. But Cameron did put the info out there, and I suspect she was doing some not-so-covert advertising for Paleta cleanses. Cameron decided to explain her cleansing situation further:

After reading your comments, let me expand! I’m excited to start my 5 day cleanse not to lose weight but to get my body back on track, ridding all the toxins and unhealthy stuff I’ve put in it the last few months. Since being off Dancing With The Stars, my body has struggled to find its balance after having danced up to 8 hours a day and eating so clean. After going back to my normal eating habits as well as extended over indulgent summertime vacation eating and normal exercise routine, my body has endured some confusion causing some minor health issues. That is private, so I will not going into detail, but this cleanse is just a step to getting it back on track because I know that food is a key source to healthy living. I’ve chosen Paleta to help because I think they’re great. And if you still comment about how unhealthy I am for doing a cleanse or that I don’t need to lose weight, I’ll know that you never read any of this and I won’t bother answering any comments below of that nature.

[From Candace Cameron Bure on Facebook]

It’s just a five-day cleanse. I wouldn’t do it because my temper goes through the roof after missing one meal, but if Cameron wants to do it, why not? The DWTS regime does mess with people’s bodies. Celebrities are constantly getting injured on the show, and they lose so much weight and usually gain it right back after they get voted off. Cameron also spoke with Access Hollywood about the cleanse backlash. She says she doesn’t want to lose any weight, but she’s “just wanting to get the impurities out.

Cameron’s also been spreading the TMI about her “active sex life” with husband Valeri Bure. Ugh. She spoke with Dr. Rachael Ross (via Us Weekly) about how sex is “a very fulfilling part of a marriage. When you’re happy sexually, it kinda just balances the rest of the stuff out. You’re not so mad at each other, you’re not nitpicking at the little things.” There you have it. Cameron may not be eating much solid food right now, but she’s getting plenty of action. And she wants you to know all about it.

Side note: I love Mark Ballas! He’s so freaking cute.

As Michelle Tanner would say…”How rude!!”

  2. TheOriginalKitten says:

I did a Five Day fast and while the first three days were pure torture, I felt AMAZING by the fourth day.

She and Kirk freak me out.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Were the police involved in any way? Because they would be if I did a 5 hour fast.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Ha ha…it was REALLY difficult but I used a fasting kit that contains supplements, an appetite suppressor, etc.

The hardest part for me is that you can’t have caffeine or any toxins while fasting. As a caffeine addict, my headache was through-the-roof. I actually thought I was dying on the second day or maybe I just wanted someone to kill me and put me out of my misery.

I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to smoke weed on it but by Day Three I really needed something to ease the pain so I lit up my pipe. Woke up Day Four feeling like I was on top of the world, no more sick feeling, tons of energy. Awesome.

Maybe it was the weed and not the fast that made me feel so good.

        Weed Fasting.

        I invented it.

Do not steal my business idea.

      • Kiddo says:

Maybe you can develop a packaged deal with Vick’s Vapo rub.

      • mimif says:

Lol Og Kitt, you’re killing me. I just started a stupid ass 5 day juice cleanse (Darth Juicer, I see you giving me the side eye) and I’m going to go roll around in my garden right. now.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Wow, I admire your discipline! No coffee? I don’t know if I could do that.

    • Mia says:

Yea I’ve done a 3 day cleanse and on the first day people maybe almost died, but on days 2 and 3. AMAZING. Provided I kept moving and being active. I could not sit still on it. I didn’t do it to rid myself of “toxins” I did it to jump start healthier. Going cold turkey on sodium, extra sugars, processed foods, fatty foods. I ate like a champ for the month following the cleanse.

      • Nerd Alert says:

That’s the way to approach it. There are no “toxins” in your body that your liver and kidneys can’t take care of. Certainly they work better than juices.

    • Heather says:

Lol I agree. She needs more than a steak

  3. chloeee says:

    Leg envy

  4. Izzy says:

It’s been my observation that generally (not always, but much of the time), the more someone yaks about how great their marriage is, the less happy they are.

Also, the human body does not usually need a “cleanse” to get rid of “toxins” from food. The body has such a system in place. It’s called the endocrine system. Specifically, the kidneys, bladder and colon. That is the usual process. I don’t know why you can’t just go back to the healthier habits you want, and let nature take its course, instead of five days of shakes and such. But to each their own, I guess.

Now pardon me while I take a bite of this big, juicy burger in front of me…

    • k says:

THANK YOU!! I just hate it when people, especially so called “experts”, talk about cleanses and how they need to get rid of the toxins in their bodies. It´s pure bullsh-t. Your body does not need a cleanse- your kidneys, bladder and colon take care of it all on their own!

    • msw says:

I like my liver and its cleansing power, too 🙂 if people want to fast occasionally (like the lemonade diet), j don’t care, but the detox fad is just a fad. Sometimes people need something extreme to kick start better choices, so no judgment from me on someone’s decision. I cut out all sugar and bread and felt a million times better in a few days. But these cleanses, I would kill someone.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

Oh Izzy, common sense has no place on the Internet.

    • DrM says:

THANK YOU! the line “‘get the impurities out” is utterly cringe worthy. Your body has its own ”cleansing” system. Drinking a pile of juice, or taking supplements don’t ”cleanse” you. Going on cleanses and worse yet paying for expensive cleanse ”kits” is at best a waste of money and at worst dangerous. I have worked in health research (as an academic or at the Ministry of Health NOT affiliated with any business or company) for quite some time and I can say without a shred of doubt that cleanses do nothing for you…zero. Except make some people ”hangry” and make companies peddling these products a lot of money. There have been a large number of studies done on cleansing and they have all come to the same conclusion. It is a food fad and one without any beneficial effects at that.

    • HadleyB says:

I do cleanses from time to time — maybe one day maybe 3-4.

I am aware there are no toxins to get rid of but inside I feel better. More energy, less bloat. I generally do it after vacation or when I was eating no so good for a few days. So I lose 30 pounds then gain it back? No, not at all. I am always within 5 pounds of my weight but I just feel so much better then I go back to my normal eating which is pretty clean/healthy 90% of the time.

I don’t think she is that thin that she needs to be told to eat. She looks healthy to me.

  5. lucy2 says:

Well, that’s what happens when you’re in the public eye and decide to share, people will say anything to you. I will say that her response was well thought out and makes sense, and her cleanse doesn’t sound as drastic as some (Goop) do.
But I agree she’s advertising for them. Which answers Izzy’s question of why she just can’t go back to healthy eating – veggies aren’t sending her a paycheck!

    • Size Does Matter says:

I agree, CCB’s fast doesn’t sound as dramatic as some, but she’s totally shilling for that company. And didn’t she pretty famously have an eating disorder at one point after Full House? I may be thinking of Tracy Gold, but any time one of these ladies gives diet tips, the side-eye comes out. BUT all that being said, I’d like to lose ten pounds myself and it doesn’t seem to be happening, so I can’t say I don’t sympathize.

      • Kiddo says:

I prefer this over religious proselytizing, any day, though.

      • SamiHami says:

Yeah, it was Tracy Gold that had an eating disorder.

      • Dancinnancy says:

@Size I get the same vibe. She admitted on DWTS that she always felt “fat and chubby” on Full House and struggled with weight after the show and into adulthood.

I personally always thought she looked great. But when she talks about food/weight obsession and then publicly goes on a clense it is very difficult not to roll your eyes and think “yeah, that’s healthy!” (Sarcastically of course).

      • msw says:

She has openly discussed the fact that she had an eating disorder.

  6. aemish says:

    I like this girl **shrug**

  7. aims says:

She giving off a Stepford wife vibe

  8. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I kind of feel for her trying to normalize things after a schedule of exercising 8 hours a day. How do you that? Having said that, I’m really sick to death of people telling me what they eat.

    • Kiddo says:

So, asking you a deep question on one of life’s great mysteries such as sandwich versus burrito is pushing the envelope today then, huh?

      Wine vs mixed cocktails? GO….

  9. FingerBinger says:

This must be her audition for The View. I guess she’s trying to make herself seem more interesting.

  10. Chris says:

I wish as a society we can just stop with the dieting talk. Eat. Don’t eat. Cleanse. Down a pizza. Do whatever you want. Let’s just stop talking about it. It’s boring and diminishing. I was at a summer bbq last week and all the women sat around and talked diets and working out. I look over at my husband and his friends and they are all joking, and talking movies and current events. I was so jealous–trying to creep away from this sad little quilting bee so I can go join the guys who are not talking about their cankles.

    • Izzy says:

You should’ve made an excuse to go ask your hubby a question, then just stayed. I would’ve so been over with the boys. And if they had asked why, I would have bluntly told them that I prefer movies over diet tips.

And I salute you for toughing it out. Have a virtual cocktail…

    • Shoe_Lover says:

i talk about food with my friends too but it’s usually along the lines of ‘i’m hungry. what should we make to eat” and “dont judge me if i have another cupcake” followed by “i will judge you if you DONT have another cupcake”

none of us are fat but we aren’t stick insects either and thats how we like it

  11. Lv says:

Hate those shoes and her stripey highlights! I think juice/shakes are not good because they take no time to digest and hit your liver/bloodstream right away. Why not eat vegetables and whole grains? To be fair Sounds like she plans at least some solid food.

  12. An says:

It was *only* five days. She’s a grown woman, she can do whatever she wants. That “eat a burger” – comment was so rude! I’m thinking of starting a 30 day water fast. Not gonna put it on Facebook though.

  13. yolo112 says:

The hubby and I did a 5 day too. Not gonna lie, the first 2 days were not ok. Someone was gonna die. The lack of coffee was ALMOST too much to deal with, like I wanted to slame my head into the wall kinda thing. No carbs, no salt, no meat, no…anything really. Veg, water…fruit… idk, I can’t remember all the things we could eat even though it was a short list. The crazy thing is we really felt soooo much better and kinda freaked out because of all of the stuff we put in our bodies and how it junks you up. We felt healthier and the recipes we made were actually really REALLY good. It ended up being kinda fun. BUT!! lemme tell ya about that first steak I ate after that… lol.

  14. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

It is cool she is doing this at the same time Ramadan is happening.

    • CityGirl says:

I’m Sure that would be an ugly coincidence as far as she is concerned, right?

      • msw says:

Being religious doesn’t mean she is hateful toward other religions. I’m an atheist, so her “being good is not good enough” campaign annoyed me a little, but as far as evangelists go, she is not one of the hateful ones (at least in public).

  15. Janey says:

Yeah, this doesn’t seem that bad – I agree that it’s not actually necessary to fast to rid your body of toxins – our bodies are pretty smart. but she’s eating solids and this doesn’t seem to something that she’s planning on doing on the regular. Also, to add to the whole I fasted and felt awesome comments – I did a similar fast – solid food for dinner and juices and it was hideous – headaches and such, BUT I slept so well – Oh my god, it was amazing. So much so, that I’m setting aside a couple of days after I get back from holiday to do something similar 🙂

  16. SamiHami says:

This doesn’t sound too extreme. But really, I don’t see why she felt the need to respond to the people criticizing her. She’s a grown up. She can eat or drink whatever she wants.

  17. Katie says:

Didn’t people criticize her for being heavier not too long ago? I think the general consensus is that people will just never be happy. So, who cares? I think she looks awesome.

  18. Mrs.Krabapple says:

I wish people would stop using the innocent- sounding euphemism “cleanse” and call it what it is — a starvation diet that usually adds natural laxatives ( like cayenne pepper) to irritate the G-I Tracy for even more weight loss (and nutrition) loss.

  19. Mary says:

I did a seven 7 day fast and and the last night we were given a clean meal. First few days were awful but towards the end I felt on top of the world. I don’t know If I could go that long without food again though.. We were in Devon at a retreat with the nearest road a mile away and all car keys were collected on arrival. It did get me on track for losing weight though. Lost 14lbs during retreat and ate clean for 3 months and lost another 30 lbs (I was a chubby chick 🙂

  20. some bitch says:

Doesn’t this moron realize that she has a liver and kidneys that constantly rid the body of “toxins”? This cleansing stuff is ridiculous.

  21. Joh says:

    Dead eyes.

  22. Mel M says:

I’m just wondering though, do people make comments like this to GP when she announces or recommends her 30 day pure lemon water crazy cleanses? I’m serious. I don’t follow GP on any social media or her site so I truely don’t know. Or do people just dislike Candace so much that they will jump on anything she does/says?

  23. I Choose Me says:

I’m not one for diet or cleanses but how is healthy shakes and snacks plus a veggie dinner a bad thing? She’s not starving herself just trying to get her body back on track after over indulgence.

And eat a steak. Really? Where the eff is all this food policing coming from? Why did she feel the need to apologise? So many questions.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

In terms of nutrition cleanses are unnecessary. Liquid nutrition is vastly inferior to eating actual food. If you want to be healthy, eat healthy food. There is no need to switch to inferior forms of nutrition to achieve a healthier feeling and lifestyle.

      • Cheryl says:

Not sure why the liquidness would make it inferior. I have a smoothie everyday packed with nutrition.as a healthy FORMAT for good food.

  24. CatJ says:

A recent CTV (Canadian network) did a “consumer watch” show and had half the women in the sorority do a cleanse and the other half ate what they normally ate. After testing the blood of each participate before and after, there was NO Difference in the blood of the “cleansers” and non-cleansers. And the poor girls on the “cleanse’ felt awful, and hated what they were allowed to eat. The doctor conducting the testing re-iterated as mentioned above, your body has the capabilities to clean you out, you do not need ‘Cleanses”. Just my two nickels. (no pennies anymore).

  25. Pandy says:

She was beyond irritating on DWTS with all the not dressing sexy and prayer nonsense … gag.

  26. Selina says:

    She shouldn’t have to explain.

Can’t stand uneducated, jealous, usually unhealthy trolls pretending to be concerned.
