Carrie Underwood announces pregnancy with onesies on her dogs: cute?

Above is a photo that Carrie Underwood, 31, tweeted to announce her first pregnancy, with hockey player husband Mike Fisher. Carrie loves her puppies and has called them her kids before, so it seems fitting. Carrie and Mike have been married for four years. She’s often said that she’s happy being childless and that she doesn’t want children at all. In fact she seemed pretty happy as a dog mom, so I wondered what changed her mind or if this was an accident. (I doubt it was an accident, Carrie is a planner.)

People reports that Carrie is due sometime in the spring, which would make her three or more months along. They also point us to her husband Mike Fisher’s tweet claiming that they’re going to name their kid “Fly.”

He’s joking! I mean I hope he’s joking, but look at North West. These people could sound like they’re joking but then end up calling their kid Fly Fisher. Or King Fisher, Deep Sea Fisher, Ice Fisher, Pond Fisher, Commercial Fisher. Maybe they’ll just use “Fly” as a middle name, that wouldn’t be so bad.

Late last year, there were rumors that Carrie and Mike were having relationship trouble. Star Magazine claimed that they were barely talking because Mike wanted kids and Carrie kept putting him off because she was so busy working. Whether that was true or not, it’s worth noting that Carrie’s tour wraps up this month and then it looks like she’s free for some time. I bet she planned this pregnancy down to the month. Congratulations to Carrie and Mike!

    Congrats to them

I think the announcement is cute

I planned my pregnancy so I’d be due in the spring. I didn’t want to be super pregnant in the summer

  2. Lara K says:

    Congratulations!
I’ve read complaints that she claims the dogs are “siblings”, and while I’m not much of a dog person, I still think it’s cute. Its not like she is being serious.
Hope she has an uneventful pregnancy and a healthy baby.

    • Kristen says:

I’ve had multiple childless friends with dogs announce their first pregnancy by calling the dog a big sister/brother or whatever. People who are complaining about that are just being petty.

    • Tracy says:

People are being silly. I thought it was cute. Congrats to them!

    • kcarp says:

People will find anything to complain about. Who cares if she calls the dogs the siblings. I use to be one of those that called the dogs my kids. I even use to dress one. Thats embarrassing.

When I had a baby I realized a dog and a baby are not even close to the same.

    • Stef Leppard says:

The dogs will be “siblings” until the actual baby arrives. That’s what happened to my cats lol!

    • Meredith M. says:

I was always rather prissy about referring to myself as a cat “owner”, not a cat “parent,” until I had a child. Then I found it was too much trouble to keep track of when I was an owner versus a parent, and I gave up, saying, “Oh heck, I’m everyone’s mommy!” (It doesn’t help that three years later I still accidentally refer to my daughter’s pediatrician as “the vet”…) Now I jokingly tell the cat to “stop giving your little sister bad ideas” (turns out my daughter is a big fan of “if I fits, I sits”).

      • Justaposter says:

Meredith M, I used to have to put my oldest and his cat brother in time out. They were toddlers together. When we had our second child, they both looked at him like “WTH is this?! This isn’t one of us!” LOL

They shared 16 wonderful years together.

    • Samtha says:

Oh, for… People get upset over the dumbest things.

  3. MrsBPitt says:

Congrats to Carrie and Mike…I just hope this isn’t a band-aid baby. That NEVER works!

  4. Jayna says:

I’ve never read anywhere that she said didn’t want children, just that she was too busy with her career right now traveling so much on tours and he also with his career. Maybe I missed something. Congratulations to the couple. She will make a great mom. He seems like a nice guy also. That was a very cute announcement.

    • Lucy2 says:

That’s what I remembered too. And good for her for planning and waiting until the right time. I bet people have been pestering them for years about it.

    • m says:

If you look through her tag, she said just a few months ago that she doesn’t have a maternal instinct in her body and doesn’t want kids now. Sounds like an “oopsie” baby to me.

      • chaser says:

It’s also something people say when they want kids and can’t have them, for whatever reason.

I know because I’ve been in that position of wanting a child desperately but being unable and making excuses for it.

  5. Brin says:

Love the way she announced she’s pregnant, very cute. Congrats to them!

  6. OrangeBlohan says:

Carrie Underwood is a class act! Congratulations on your wonderful news!!

  7. Justme says:

Congrats to them, will be a cute kid. Wonder if they make pregnancy clothes in the pageant-y styles she seems to love lol.

  8. in_theory says:

I can’t stand animals in stupid clothing, or really any clothing that serves absolutely no purpose but to be cutesy.

    • Jenns says:

      lol. ok.

    • Ag says:

me neither. the poor dogs always look traumatized to be wearing stupid crap that their “parents” put them in. haha

    • Tifygodess24 says:

Some animals need the extra layers during the winter and some with thin or no coats need sun coverage in the summer .I have chihuahuas and they don’t regulate their body temperature well and they need a sweater to be able to go outside in the winter so they dont turn into a pup-sickle 🙂 Do they need a dress? No but clothing for dogs isn’t just always for style sometimes it’s for function.

      • in_theory says:

Well, I have a very specific opinion on animals who have been misbred on purpose to such an extent that they are unable to take care of themselves or function without outside help anymore, but this is not the thread for that.

      • Erinn says:

We have to put our GSP in a coat in the winter. Her fur is so short, and our winters are pretty bitter. If we don’t she stands there huddling against us and shaking, refusing to do her business. She get’s genuinely excited when we grab the coat because she knows she’s heading outside.

        in_theory
It’s not mis-breeding if the dog originated in a much warmer climate and has a hard time handling going outside on really bad days.

      • in_theory says:

@ Erinn: Fair point, but in that case people should probably get dogs more suitable to the climate they’re in. This is what I always think when I see people with huskies that need to get shaved in order to be able to stand the hot summers around here.

      • ScrewStewrat99 says:

I bought my beagle a rain coat because we were moving from Florida to Tennessee and I thought he would need it during winter. He doesn’t really need it and he actually loves to play in the snow. It is nice to use when its raining though. He gets so stinky after getting wet. 🙂

  9. AuroraO says:

Congrats on your band aid baby.

  10. Sunny says:

Congrats to them! Mike Fisher is one of the nicest guys in the world, so I am especially happy for him!

I’m really glad their marriage seems to be working.

  11. Christin says:

Congratulations to them. If Carrie planned it down to the month, then great for her. My best friend planned her second child to be born the same season as the first so all the seasonal baby clothing would fit. She’s a frugal planner.

    • Sleepyjane says:

      Your friend is brilliant.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

All 3 of my children have birthdays within 6 weeks of each other. Not planned–I’m apparently just REALLY fertile in the month of March (I still don’t know how #3 happened…)! Clothing-wise it has worked out spectacularly and I have saved sooooo much money. Now, having all three of my babies in the Thanksgiving/Hanukkah/Christmas season was maybe not the best timing, however…

  12. flutters says:

Congrats to them! Best wishes for a healthy, uneventful, and happy pregnancy, and a healthy, happy baby.

I never got the vibe Carrie didn’t want kids ever. Maybe insisting she was in no rush was her way of dealing with media questions about when she and Mike would start a family. She’s one of those celebs who’s been declared pregnant by the tabloids a lot over the past few years.

The Star magazine article was nothing more than your typical “successful professional female is failing her husband and society by not popping out babies immediately” with Carrie’s name plugged in. It was Carrie’s name because her name happened to be in the news at the time (because The Sound Of Music Live had just aired and was huge in the ratings despite all the internet snark). They ran the same story on Emily Blunt and John Krasinski before that and they’ll run the story again plugging in somebody else’s name. It’s so…..anti-modern.

I thought the announcement was cute too. Fly Fisher’s almost definitely probably hopefully a joke. I wonder if they’d consider Princess Leia for a name if they’re having a girl?

  13. Falula says:

Carrie and Jessica Simpson are forever connected in my head because of Tony Romo, so I think it’s funny she has a dog named Ace.

I never dress my dog, both because I wouldn’t want to and he doesn’t like stuff on him, but when we brought our first kid home from the hospital he wore a onesie that said “my big brother is a black lab.”

  14. blue marie says:

I know I might be alone in this but clothes on pets annoys me. Like 20 minute rant annoys me.

  15. sa says:

It always annoyed me when my mother would refer to her cat as my sister, so I really shouldn’t like the ‘big brother’ and ‘big sister’ shirts for the dogs, but I do. I think they’re adorable.

  16. SunnySide says:

Congrats to them! I love this couple and the announcement is so cute!

  17. Steph says:

    Love the announcement….congrats:)

  18. K.B. says:

She’s going to be one of “those” parents.

Maybe she got tired of people asking her questions about when she was going to have a kid. It saddens me that when it comes to women, the only “accomplishment” that society cares about is whether or not they’ve procreated.
