The older Duggar daughters are really playing the publicity game. Somehow Jill Duggar scored a People cover to announce the news of her honeymoon baby. Now Jill’s sister Jessa, 21, has announced that she’ll marry her Catholic-hating beau, Ben Seewald, 19, on November 1. Ben has been living in a guest house on the Duggar’s property for months. He may have moved in to help provide a plot for their reality show, as a very special engagement episode will air this fall. Us Magazine has the details:
Coming soon… another Duggar wedding! Jessa Duggar and her fiance Ben Seewald announced on Monday, Sept. 8, that they have set their wedding date for this fall after getting engaged last month.
The 19 Kids and Counting stars will walk down the aisle and exchange vows on Nov. 1.Their engagement news comes the day after the fifth eldest Duggar child, 21, gave a close-up look via Instagram video of her “beautiful engagement ring!” The rock is a “.75 carat diamond–18 karat gold band,” the bride-to-be shared.
Duggar and Seewald, 19, got engaged on Aug. 14 after 11 months of dating. “We are so blessed to be engaged!” the couple gushed in a statement. “God has written an amazing story through our courtship, and another chapter has just begun! We are thrilled to see what the future holds — especially the wedding bells!”
Jessa, like her recently-married (and pregnant!) big sister Jill Duggar, plans to save her first kiss with Seewald for the altar. On her family’s reality show, the future bride gushed about her signifiant other. “When I’m with him, around him, I think he brings out the best in me,” she said.
How long do you think it will take before Jessa announces that she’s pregnant? That’s why she’s getting married, so she can actually kiss her boyfriend and have sex. Her sister has admitted that’s why she got married. 10 to 1 Jessa will make a pregnancy announcement before Christmas. You know that getting knocked up is going to be her first priority. Also, which sister do you think will land a spin-off reality show, Jessa or Jill? We heard that Jill was gunning for one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jessa wants her own too. Maybe TLC could do a joint reality show featuring Jessa and Jill’s new marriages. That won’t put a strain on them or anything.

No, this one’s getting married for reality TV drama and so she can move out of the house. She doesn’t even seem to like this guy, and I suspect she’d be fine with it if the kissing stayed off limits.

I’m kinda wondering if she’s preg now, and thats why the date is so soon. I said from the gate Jill was preg before the wedding and the baby was gonna be “premature.” Wonder if this girl is too.
They’re an attractive couple, but I hope they know what they’re getting into. Young marriages tend to struggle for a reason. Also, I still think it’s weird as f*ck that he’s living with them.
At least Jill’s husband is 25 years old, which is a fine (if a tad young) age for a man to get married and have children. Ben is 19, which in my opinion is waaaay too young to be getting married and having kids. I can’t imagine a parent encouraging their daughter to marry a 19 year old. It’s bizarre.

I have a few friends who got married young (my definition is under 25) and they’re all divorced now, with one exception. I have nothing against “young love” but at the same time it’s a bit sad that these girls feel this need to get hitched and pop out babies at such a young age. Do they have no other ambitions in life?

The whole family just makes me sad. And if you’re someone that lives on the fringe of possibilities and loves to ask this question all over the internet, let me preemptively answer. If I had to read about the Duggars or the Kardashians, it’s the latter. The Kardashians make stupid choices, but they are open-minded and in-charge of their own lives. I’m not one of those that truly believes Kris is a slave driver, although it is fun to joke about.

I was also wondering where a 19-year-old gets the $$ to pay for a .75 carat engagement ring. Jim Bob, I’m assuming, but does anyone know anything about Ben’s family? Does he come from money? What’s his education? He’s only 19, but is he going to college at least?
It depends on the cut. A narrow deep cut can be the same carat as a wide shallow cut.
They are really pumping out the storylines! I think she is a really pretty girl. That been said my eyes have been openned to what this family is really about. From reading all your comments over the years especially this years, I completely view them so different now.
I remember one episode that if the kids are walking down the street and a girl walks by with ( what they deem as) revealing clothing. Someone will yell out ,’nikey’,& they will all look down. The girls swim suits are dresses with leggings for crying out loud.
Does anyone know how these kids live when they get married and move out of their parents’ house? Like the older one who just got married. Where do they live? What does he do? Does she have a job? Do they just use the money she earns from the show or from selling details about her life to pay their bills?

Jill is studying to be a midwife and her husband is an accountant . As for jessa, I don’t think she has a job but her fiancé works for her dad and he was attending college. I don’t understand why they are rushing to get married, November is not even two months away. They waited 11 months to hold hands so I don’t see why they can’t wait a little longer to kiss and have sex.
I think it’s been well established in these forums that we should qualify comments about Jill’s education. She’s “studying” to be a “midwife.” And now that she’s pregnant, I’m sure even that will stop. But I do admire that her husband went to real school to really study a real subject and now has a real job working for a real company.
Jim Bob gave Jill and Derrick a house to live in, he says it is until they sell it. It’s really big.
Derrick is an accountant at Walmart. He has a real job. He is a college grad. She does a reality show and has sex I am pretty sure that is her job.
I think Derrick is way more worldly that this kid. This kid is only like 18 but Derrick is 25.

Interesting that Jim Bob gave the newly married couple a home. Did he do the same for that son that is married?
I work from home, on Tuesdays and Thursdays my little one is home. I always had like a Dateline or Dr Phil on. I thought we need to clean up our viewing. I started having the Duggars on in the background. While they are weird they usually don’t discuss murders.
One day my kid was watching and she said these are some cool kids. I said you must know some losers if you think these kids are cool.
Again, I am really ashamed of myself that I know this stuff.

I don’t know sh*t about these people, but I was reading the article on People about the ring and many of the comments were from people who watch the show and like the family. 99% of the comments felt that the guy was way too immature to be married and the couple came across as a poor match. Interesting–I wonder how the cult will deal with divorce? No matter how fundamentalist, with 20 kids marrying after the flimsiest of courtships, there’s bound to be one.
He comes across as being very immature. He’s a teenager with no education and now ” works” for Jim Bob mowing grass and doing minor repairs around their compound. He also lives in a windowless, wood panelled room in a metal, out building they call “the guesthouse”. How will he support himself and Jessa, let alone ” all of the children God sends them”? Will she move into the windowless room with him? I’ve never seen two people who are less ready for marriage. She doesn’t even seem to be attracted to him. She’s very beautiful and I’m sure he’s enamoured, but they don’t seem to be well matched and she’ll be 22 soon, with a husband who has just turned 19. That age difference is nothing when they are older, but 19 is really young for a guy to marry. They are so against dating and all rush to marry the first person that shows interest in them, handpicked by their Father. I honestly think he lets them live in their extra houses to prevent them from moving away and possibly leaving his authority. Even though they believe the Father hands authority over his daughter to their husband, (gag) I think he keeps them close and chooses men that he can control and keep under his authority as well. It’s really disturbing. Ben’s Father now has a website where he posts religious rants and his uneducated musings on how everyone else should live and how all other religions, including Catholic are wrong , how his specific Christian beliefs are the only right ones and how marrying young is a must for all Christians. I think he is thrilled to be in the Duggar fold and will milk it for every bit of attention he can.
Interesting. I only know what I read here about these people, so I like reading comments like yours that have a lot of detail about their belief system.
But religion aside, I agree that there is a huge maturity gap between a 22-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy. Huge.
I’m also curious to see what their living situation will be after they marry.
They’ll probably be set up in another vacant house, owned by the Duggars, so that they can be monitored and exploited on the show. Jessa will stay home all day, burning food and taking daily pregnancy tests and Baby Ben will go to work, mowing the Duggar grass, taking out their garbage bags filled with paper plates and plastic cutlery and patrolling the perimeter to make sure no one makes a break for it.
Sounds blissful, doesn’t it? 🙂

OMG can’t IMAGINE marrying a 19 year old. He is still a boy. And will be for several years.
Boy brains aren’t even finished growing until age 24 or so. It is physically impossible for a 19 year old to understand a lifelong decision – let alone emotionally grasp it.
I loathe this family. They are a sex-obsessed cult to create more white babies who will be raised using primitive methods (Google “blanket training”) that guarantee ignorance and lack of curiosity. This family also feeds off US with their tax-exempt compound and free government health insurance. They are astoundingly stupid.
Jim Bob struggles to read aloud and Michelle, whose formal education stopped at 17 “teaches” all of the children using a homeschooling program that is rooted in their cults doctrine. The entire family have atrocious grammar and seem to have a very small vocabulary. Keeping your children uneducated and ignorant is an incredibly cruel method of control. So is marrying off your daughter to a 19 child who can’t string a sentence together. How people can buy into the candy coating this family gets is beyond me.

She was my big hope out of all the daughters. If any of the older girls were going to rebel, it was going to be her. There was a couple episodes where the parents talk about how she doesnt cook and has to learn etc. Also she was the one who fought for the girls to get to wear make up, change their hair and dress more “modern”. Alas, they got her anyways. Such a shame, because is really quite stunning. And marrying an unemployed (lets be honest, jim bob hired him to do yard work) 19 year old is a HUGE mistake.
I have a 16 year old son – I am lol’ing at the mere thought of him getting married in three short years. ITA with many posters here – I don’t think she’s all that into him (unlike the older sister and her new husband). Add me to the list of people ashamed to know this much…

Their loins must be a raging hot inferno…enough to get married as kids themselves. Could you imagine wanting to make out with your boyfriend but the only option was to get married and make a baby?? So screwed up.
I love this family. I enjoy watching them. I know their lives are very different and most people don’t agree with that. I think their oldest son is happy healthy and is at least working and making an effort. I think that Jill and Derick are genuinely happy together. He has a real job as an accountant and has traveled and is 25 and she (at least was) training to be a midwife. but THIS union scares me. He is such a hater with a small mind..he seems mean and lazy and basically a waste of space. I think she looks so UNhappy…soooo miserable and like she’s trying to find a way out. I do think Jim Bob is more controlling than I’d like to believe and this is the only evidence I have. It’s very sad to see. I hope she can get out before it’s too late!
Why isn’t Jim Bob marrying off his oldest daughter? You would think she would be the most anxious to move out. Maybe he wanted to marry off this one because she’s the wild child, but I’m a little surprised he didn’t start matchmaking with the oldest and work his way down chronologically. Poor thing is getting old for marriage by this family’s standards.
She’s needed to cook, clean and care for the younger children. Michelle and Jim Bob may have chosen to let God send them 19 children, but they can’t be expected to take care of those kids themselves. That’s what the older daughters are for. Jim Bob has said on the show that God knew to send so many older girls so that they would be there to care for the kids who came after. The little kids are more attached to there older female ” buddies” than they are their own Mother. I doubt that Jim Bob will find a godly man for Jana or Jinger anytime soon.
How much revenue is lost to the government through these scandalously tax-free but enormously lucrative ‘religions’? I can’t understand why it’s tolerated by taxpayers. These people aren’t exactly public servants in return, are they?
