Jennifer Aniston is ‘flattered’ that her ‘Cake’ performance is getting Oscar buzz

FFN_Aniston_Jenn_GGFF_111614_51587487

As we discussed yesterday, Jennifer Aniston had a small screening for her “Oscar hopeful” film, Cake, on Sunday in NYC. As I’ve said before, I half-admire Jennifer’s hustle for Cake. I’ve written “Oscar hopeful” in front of Cake so many times, I’m almost starting to believe it! She’s really going out of her way to rustle up some “buzz” for her performance. The problem is that she’s the only one who thinks she should get an Oscar nomination. No studio wanted to buy Cake and no one wanted to distribute it, which is why Jennifer is basically paying for her Oscar campaign out of pocket. So it’s less an Oscar campaign and more of exercise in LOOK AT ME, I DID A SERIOUS MOVIE. OSCAR BUZZ OSCAR BUZZ. Thankfully, some media outlets are willing to play along:

Sure, Jennifer Aniston stripped down for her latest role – but it’s her dramatic turn on the big screen we’re talking about. The actress, 45, is already earning Oscar buzz for her turn in Cake, in which she plays a mourner suffering chronic pain.

“It was a just a wonderfully beautiful story of a woman in extraordinary pain, living through an unthinkable trauma,” Aniston told PEOPLE at InStyle and The Cinema Society’s Sunday premiere of the indie film in New York City.

And while her character is battling demons, “I also found her quite humorous and quite endearing,” says Aniston. “You have empathy for the character.”

The Friends alum says she was ready for the role’s change of pace from her presumed persona – not that it was easy.

“That was a challenge for me. How do we tell this story without having everyone hate her?” Aniston says. “I actually loved her. But the movie has a beautiful way of unfolding itself without giving the story away and allowing the audience to go with the journey as it’s being told.”

As for the early awards season whispers? Aniston is surprised, saying (with a laugh) she’s “flattered” and that she reacts to the buzz “awkwardly and stutteringly.”

The actress later celebrated the film at a Grey Goose-sponsored fête at Jimmy at The James New York, where fiancé Justin Theroux joined her.

“It ticked all the boxes that an actor dreams of,” Aniston added to reporters of the role.

[From People]

Her talking points have gotten better, haven’t they? I’m glad she’s not still using that “it was so dreamy and empowering to go without makeup” line. Let’s see, what else? She spoke to E! about her research for the role, blah. They also asked her about her Thanksgiving plans and she said: “Family tradition, the dinner—turkey dinner. Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family. I used to bring the spanakopita and the dolmades, but I’m not doing that. My grandmother’s recipe takes me about seven hours.” There’s not much of a Greek community where I live, so I had no idea what those words meant. It turns out spanakopita is a savory pastry with feta cheese (GROSS) and spinach. Dolmades are something something stuffed in olive leaves. It does sound super-complicated now that I’m looking at the recipes. I had no idea that Jennifer actually knows how to make traditional Greek food. I assumed she would be the one to just bring a bottle of Bombay Sapphire to the gathering and call it a day.

She has great legs, even though she’s a shorty (I think?).

    • avh says:

Good Lord, she is so unattractive. I hate saying it but I just can’t keep it in any longer!!! Flattered by the Oscar talk that she has been initiating & perpetuating since she had that first prosthetic Cake scar put on her face??? It’s been a decade since her marriage to Brad… it’s time to go away sweetheart. Go bake on a beach somewhere & enjoy ur gazillions of dollars. Everyone was/is on her side, no marriage should end w an alleged affair but it is what it is. C’mon, 10 yrs!!! Just stop and go bake…please!

      • Natasha says:

I think she is more unattractive inside. She breaks up relationships and steals men, she is not a nice person.

  2. paola says:

Ok just to get things straight: If SHE wins the Oscar and Amy Adam doesn’t it will piss me off big time. I’ll probably start eating cakes even though I’m gluten intelorant.

    • Maya says:

I got pissed off when Matthew M won this year.

If Jennifer wins before Amy Adams, Julianna Moore, Jessica Chastain, Viola Davis etc I will be furious and will never watch the academy awards again. These women have more drama acting talent in their little finger than Jennifer has or will ever have.

      • COSquared says:

Really, at this point, the AA and the award season are 70% popularity and campaigning with the remaining 30 being actual. If Team Aniston press hard enough, she could bypass more deserving actresses to bag several awards throughout the season.

      • LAK says:

This blatant hustle is how GOOP won the oscar over Cate Blanchett who at the time was a newbie and playing the ‘i’m a thespian. i’m just glad to be nominated and campaigning/hustle isn’t something i indulge in’ card.

She learnt that lesson and now hassles with the best of them!!

      • Algernon says:

Not even remotely possible. Everyone in the industry is perfectly aware that she is creating this “buzz” herself. No one is taking her seriously except the entertainment outlets who can get a lot of hits from mentioning “Jennifer Aniston”.

      • Penelope says:

Why did you get “pissed” that MM won last year? His performance was incredible and he deserved the Oscar.

      • MariPoodle says:

LAK – Thank you. I’m STILL p.o’d that Goop won over Cate Blanchett. Ms. Blanchett was everything in ‘Elizabeth’. Ingénue to Power Queen. What a performance.
To this day I have yelled “ROBBED” when I see references to either movie and my friends think I’m daft.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@MariPoodle, who wrote: “I’m STILL p.o’d that Goop won over Cate Blanchett. Ms. Blanchett was everything in ‘Elizabeth’. Ingénue to Power Queen. What a performance. To this day I have yelled “ROBBED” when I see references to either movie and my friends think I’m daft.”

Yes! Cate Blanchett was SO robbed. There is ‘no’ way Gwyneth should have won the Oscar over Cate. Her performance was absolutely stunning; what depth, what range.

    • Luca76 says:

Don’t worry no one seeiously thinks she will be nominated even for a Globe.

      • FLORC says:

She could be nominated. I truly doubt she’ll win though. If she does it will be a huge joke and there will be backlash. Adams deserves an oscar at this point.
Aniston does 1 role that wasn’t awful as a serious character. Creates her own buzz after searching high and low for a distributor. And the Oscar buzz comes out of the woodwork.

On a side note… Aniston has great pr. is Huvane thinking about applying to KP press office?

      • notasugarhere says:

“is Huvane thinking about applying to KP press office? ” FLORC, that would be hilarious.

      • Someonestolemyname1 says:

She might get a Golden Globe nom.

Not sure SAG or Academy will nominate her though.

    • Kate says:

Here’s the thing though: someone like Amy Adams consistently turns in great work which is why she is nominated a lot. Sometimes a really amazing turn that’s just far beyond everything else (like Blanchett last year) wins. But, often, people “win” for one stunt role and then can’t sustain it.

I guess what I’m saying is I don’t care if Jennifer Aniston wins an Oscar bc soneone like Amy Adams it Jessica Chastain or Viola Davis are still winning that war bc they consistently do good work and don’t just show up with a stunt one time.

      • paola says:

I agree with you.. but just the thought of JA bypassing people like julianne Moore or Amy Adams drives me up the wall.

      • doofus says:

” But, often, people “win” for one stunt role and then can’t sustain it. ”

AMEN TO THAT. Cuba Gooding? Marisa Tomei? Jamie Foxx? GOOP?!

      • LAK says:

Marisa Tomei has been in many good indies and given outstanding performances in all of them. She’s also been nominated for Best supporting actress 3 times [ THE WRESTLER, IN THE BEDROOM, MYCOUSIN VINNY] and won once [MY COUSIN VINNY].

        she’s got talent and it’s a shame she isn’t a bigger star.

      • doofus says:

OK, I’ll take that one back. 🙂

      • Someonestolemyname1 says:

Glen Close should have won an Oscar years ago too.
How can they give Jennifer Anniston an Oscar and GlennClose doesn’t have one?

        Glen Close nominated 1983,84,85,88,89,2012

    • The Original G says:

PU-lease. This film is going to be shown at an art house independent theatre in NYC and LA for a week or two and then go direct to video. The reviews are lukewarm. The film is a stretch for her, but not really good enough to be culturally interesting. There is no compelling artistic or commercial reason that this is going anywhere,

FWIW, the only place i really read anything about her is here,

      • Josefa says:

Gossip bloggers are the only people paying attention to her film. All the serious movie blogs barely consider her a candidate. The film didn’t get a distributor, the reviews for it have been mediocre and her performance alone hasn’t gotten raving reviews, either. It’s an oscar-baity role, but there’s no buzz around it.

    • hilda says:

There were a lot of unworthy wins like Charlize, Hallee , Julia , Reese , Angelina and a lot more , so why souldn’t she win ?

      • The Original G says:

She won’t win or be nominated because the performances you reference were in film that had some commercial potential. Cake, unfortunately has zero. None.

Jen’s audience isn’t into this kind of film and audiences into serious film aren’t into her. Plus the film itself is too middling get any general interest.

      • Natasha says:

Julia and Angelina both thoroughly deserved their awards. You cannot seriously put Aniston in the same category as them.

      • Someonestolemyname1 says:

I think Julia,Angelina and Charlize deserved their awards.
        Reese too.

Halle is sort of hit or miss though, sometimes her acting is just bad.

I honestly don’t believe Jennifer Anniston can act at all, she just plays the same persona over and over again…but I have not seen her current film.

  3. She should talk about Greek cooking more.

And I so want her to be nominated for something now…..then we’ll get to see Jennifer and Justin in the same city/room more often.

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

I think she’s only ‘talking’ about Greek cooking because she reads the Blogs and knows there is/has been talk about how she seems to have ‘distanced’ herself from her Greek heritage. And when has this woman ever spent Holidays with her family over the past 20-years? It also vacations, friends, vacations, friends ad nauseam.

    • It is what it is says:

      Mmm spanakopita!

    • littlestar says:

She should talk about WHO EXACTLY is going to be at her Thanksgiving. I’m nosey and need to know LOL. Which friends and what family? Her dad and her brother? Definitely not her mom.

      • MyrtCoy says:

She was asked that question on one of the entertainment shows yesterday. I don’t remember which, it could have been ‘Extra’. She said her father and Justin’s mother would be at their home in LA for Thanksgiving dinner.

  4. truthSF says:

“Jennifer Aniston is ‘flattered’ that her ‘Cake’ performance is getting Oscar buzz”

    From who?

    • COSquared says:

      From the inner voices. Duh!

    • I’ve said it a bajillion times–even the review at Deadline (which is what started this Oscar buzz) wasn’t that great. He said that Jennifer was good. A few paragraphs later, he goes into Paul Bettany’s ‘Shelter’–saying that this was Jennifer Conolly’s most raw, divisive performance. That if the film wasn’t picked up, it was because this was Jennifer’s riskiest role since Requiem Of A Dream. And ‘Shelter’ got a distributor. So how JA’s movie didn’t, and is Oscar worthy kind of blows my mind.

    • Sugar1 says:

The world wide interaweb don’t ya know…haha
I swear everytime I read a Cake post I cannot help but think of “for your consideration” I think justin is behind this helping Jen create a buzz that just isn’t there.

      • doofus says:

Wasn’t that a GREAT movie?…Catherine O’Hara’s character’s plastic surgery is SO apt when it comes to hollywood.

f up your face to the point you’re unrecognizable.

  5. COSquared says:

    The thirst is mindboggling.

  6. Birdix says:

You’re missing out on the Greek/Mediterranean food! A good dolma (thought they were grape leaves) is my favorite deli snack. And spanokopita, crunchy, salty, delicious!

    • moot says:

Yup grape leaves. And dolamades (spelling changes depending on place) is prevalent all around eastern Mediterannean, not only Greece.

    • angela says:

Spanakopita is the food of gods. But yeah the dolmas (another spelling) take forever to prep.

Ha, just edit to say that I notice there’s a substantive Team Spanakopita here.

    • yessa says:

I LOVE Greek food. spanakopita may sound a little gross but trust me, its so delicious. I believe it would take her 7 hours to do some of those Greek dishes. I’m making myself hungry.

    • vauvert says:

Seven hour recipe? What was she drinking? You guys, spanakopita takes about 15 min to prepare and 30 – 40 minutes to bake. And dolmades (stuffed marinated grape leaves you buy in a jar and stuff with a mix of ground lamb/beef and rice) takes an hour tops. Unless you take a break in the middle to get your hair and nails done. The poor girl obviously has no clue how to cook Greek food or anything else. Either her chef misinformed her or she was talking nonsense again…. “Beautiful eyeballs” etc,

      • Natasha says:

Lol more evidence of her lies.

      • Mary says:

Both Greek dishes are indeed very time consuming to prepare Each grape leaf needs to be individually wrapped before cooking. People should do some research before accusing her of lying. Sorry, Natasha you are wrong. I’ve prepared both dishes and know.

    • Becky1 says:

Yes, spanikopita is awesome! I definitely recommend that everyone who has a decent Greek restaurant nearby give it a try.

      • vauvert says:

Mary, sorry to disagree here. I have been cooking both these dishes since I was a teen, learned them from my Greek grandma. Yes, you need to roll each grape leaf around the filling but unless you are making hundreds and hundreds for a restaurant, it is not that time consuming. For a regular family lunch, when you would serve this dish as one of many, you need forty pieces max. Mixing the meat with rice and egg and herbs takes ten minutes tops. Rolling the leaves, another fifteen or twenty if you are slow… then you gently simmer them in a pot for about twenty minutes. Seven hours??? Not on your life.

And spanakopita? Grate the cheese, add some frozen spinach you boiled five minutes and chopped, roll it in several layers of pastry and throw in the oven.

Even if you choose to make the pastry from scratch as opposed to buying the frozen sheets made by Krinos, (which most home cooks now do), it will never take you seven hours. With pre made sheets I can have that dish in the oven in fifteen minutes and I stand by it. (including egg washing on top, which should never be skipped.)

I am still calling BS on her cooking comment. Maybe if someone tried making the dish only once, or she is a totally inexperienced cook, it may take a few hours… someone who actually knows how to cook Greek food will tell you that we can make four five dishes easily in two hours – you always do one task while something else is boiling, stewing, baking etc.

  7. ADD says:

Spanakopita is delicious. You’re missing out, Kaiser!

  8. Ollyholly says:

    Feta cheese is delicious…

  9. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Spanakopita was a huge fad as an hors d’hoevre about 20 years ago. You couldn’t go to a cocktail party without having it offered to you. It’s actually pretty good, even though I don’t love spinach, but I got sick of it. That was a great story, right? Don’t worry, I’ve got more of them.

  10. Maya says:

    Flattered – huh?

Delusional & pretentious is what comes to my mind.

I have never ever seen anyone hustle for an award this much and this desperately before.

Every single actor/actress obviously wants awards and they do hustle – but in a more subtle and classier way. Jennifer not so subtle and in your face campaign is pushing people away from her more and more.

    • truthSF says:

I can almost guarantee a GG nomination is not up for contention (unless they’re desperate for some tabloid drama setup between her and the Pitts), let alone an oscar nomination.

      • Bring the DRAMA! Please. After the Hathaway Oscar season, nothing else compared when it came to gossip for the Oscar season.

Also–was your name Shazz? Or Shar? Something like that–I think I recognize your picture from a few years ago…..

      • truthSF says:

Shar is my disqus username, but I’ve never used it on this site.

      • lisa2 says:

I think trying to make some Drama over a relationship that ended 10 years ago is dry. They have already been in the same room in 2009. Nothing happened. Nothing. All the gossips peep salivating got nothing. Same would happen this year. The vast majority of the world is over it all. I mean 10 years was long enough

    • Artemis says:

I have never ever seen anyone hustle for an award this much and this desperately before.

Out of the top of my head: George Clooney Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, ANNE HATHAWAY (bludgeoned her self-doubt with her Oscar), Melissa Leo (the Fighter), David O. Russell (pretty sure he cussed people out under his breath), Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Natalie Portman, Kate Winslet, Viola Davis, Michelle Williams, Matthew McConaughhey? – eh on the spelling and Daniel Day Lewis but that was behind the scenes.

I can also break down the desperation for each person if you’d like?

Pretty much everybody except Joaquin Phoenix is parched for that golden statue. The difference is that it’s funny with Aniston because she doesn’t have that ‘serious actor’ image.

      • Remember that THR interview–where they had an anonymous Oscar voter share his results? I SWEAR it was David O. Russell. But Anne’s Oscar race was the best (most hungry) I’ve ever seen. We need more.

      • Luca76 says:

@ Artemis Nah the biggest difference is at least in all of those cases the work was recognized by others as being decent. I mean she had to create a production company to get the film distributed because the studios showed no interest. The movie is at 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and she’s on no ones’ list as having a shot at a nomination. A couple of critics put her at 10 th place. As tacky as Hathaway, and Leo were for instance they at least had big players behind the scenes that were backing them, they were geniunely acclaimed by critics, and they were nominated(and won). This is all together a different kind of thing someone who has no shot fabricating buzz that absolutely isn’t there and most galling is her whole shtick about being ‘humbled’ by the attention that’s rich.

      • Josefa says:

True. Her thirst for an oscar is nothing new. The difference between her and all the people in your list is (most of them) are actually talented and stood a chance.

      • Annika says:

        @Artemis:
        Yes, THANK YOU!!!!!!
I’d also like to add Jared Leto & Jessica Chastain seems pretty thirsty lately too.

      • Artemis says:

        @VG

Yes, that’s the stuff I like! I love the anonymous profiles of voters. It was depressing that they didn’t remember Lupita’s name (‘that woman’) but they did remember Matthew Mcblabla! And that they made choices on really stupid grounds which goes to show what a fraud that institution is.

I remember the thirsty women more because it was blown out of proportion by the media and their speeches/attitudes were what makes the campaign season interesting. The men are SO boring in their interviews while the women just go all out haha.

        @Luca

DOR’s films are not that great. American Hustle was being called out then and now for actually being a boring as fuck/overrated movie. Same for Meryl Streep’s performances. The Iron Lady was not her best work and August Osage’s best performance was actually Julia Roberts’ while MS overacted.
RS is an OK-ish actress but general consensus is that Joaquin acted the shit out of that role. He wasn’t the winner though. Have you followed campaign seasons at all? Critics often point out the mediocrity of Oscar films. It’s all online, go see for yourself.

Ahum, the Iron Lady is also at 50%, didn’t stop MS from winning.

As for being acclaimed: you paraphrased me and elaborated, I already said she doesn’t have a ‘serious actor’ image which for me implies that she can’t play the game at that level but that shouldn’t stop her tbh.

      • @Artemis
I loved it, it was so bitchy. But yeah–it totally was DOR. Dude put American Hustle as the film to win for everything. And the movie was not that good–it was confusing, and the only good thing about it were the performances. But it seemed to me that DOR thought he could throw people in period clothing and people would give out Oscars.

And I liked Meryl a lot better than Julia in August Osage…..I thought Julia was SO overdone in that movie.

      • LAK says:

i’m still embarrased for Mellisa Leo’s campaign. Ditto GOOP.

      • Luca76 says:

@Artemis I don’t disagree with you on your critiques of AH and Meryl at all but at the same time American Hustle was one of the best reviewed films of last year and Meryl Streep is still ahem Meryl Streep.
My point is in all the cases you mentioned the blind ambition of an individual was paired with a (varying) amount of critical phrase (even Meryl won prestigious critical awards for Iron Lady), and the backing of studios and production companies.
On the other hand Jen has none of that and quite honestly the way it was passed over at TIFF it shows how little standing she has in the industry when she had to distribute and hire a Harvey underling it’s not just that it’s considered critically mediocre but that the studios themselves don’t see anything they can market.

I recognize that Jen A has the right to do whatever she damn well pleases and I can get behind her shaking up her image but she’s a few rungs down the ladder in dignity than Melissa Leo and Anne Hathaway at this point purely because of the way she’s applied her PR machine to this to manufacture buzz when she would have been better off letting the work speak for itself and hoping it would lead to better chances which is what Sandy B and Matthew M did which got them Oscars.

        I

      • KatyD says:

Boy, some people are smoking the good shit yet again. Meryl Streep’s performance in a toilet-paper commercial would be more Oscar-worthy than what most actors are doing. Her worst work would be a career high for most actors.

Just for shits and giggles, can you imagine Jennifer Aniston doing The Iron Lady? Or, a period piece? Singing? Or, having to shave her hair and truly disappear in a role? Aniston makes a big deal out of not wearing make-up as “dreamy and empowering,” as if that’s all it takes to be an actress. She plays shades of the same character in every role, just changing superficial things like make-up or hair color, but she does little with voice, speach, movement or heart.

She can’t even speak about her character’s journey without it sounding fake and made up. Aniston is too consumed with the art of grabbing people’s attention, celebrity, and money, I feel. She’s a full-on celeb and she wants to be an even bigger one. I think the “acting” is a vehicle to promote the Jennifer Aniston show, basically.

      • Grant says:

I think there’s a world of difference between Jen’s campaign and, say, Melissa Leo’s or Anne Hathaway’s. Talking about being empowered by not wearing makeup is nowhere near as pathetic as buying out ad space in a trade editorial or asphyxiating everyone with one’s obnoxiousness at every press opportunity.

      • KatyD says:

I disagree, especially with Anne Hathaway. She’s given a few decent performances and she deserved to get noticed for Fantine. She put in her work for that role, going all out. Was she obnoxious and over the top? Sure.

Compare that with Aniston who seemed to put little effort or thought into her acting until this one role where she does a little something different (no make-up! ) Then, all of the sudden, she has her publicist buy her Oscar buzz with People magazine, etc. “Flattered” by her own PR shenanigans? Who does she think she’s fooling? Does she think she can hype her way into serious actor territory?

      • Artemis says:

        @Luca:

That’s right but AH was still called out for being overrated at the same time (and especially after the Oscar hype).

I agree with what you wrote but my point was merely that most actors are thirsty for an Oscar regardless of talent (see Lutz, Lohan etc). Aniston falls right in between not being complete shit and being a great talent such as the ladies I mentioned.

        @Katy

No, because JA hasn’t done that yet. And she won’t if people won’t turn up and see her movies that don’t involve a happy ending etc.

Fact is that MS’s Oscar win and hustle was for a film that didn’t deserve it. She has been called out for overacting for two of her Oscar noms so there’s that.MS was nominated because she’s MS, it’s almost obligatory, let’s not pretend it’s for her stellar performances. So if she can hustle her mediocre projects, why can’t Aniston? We all know the Oscars are not really about talent. She’s one of the best actresses ever, I don’t dispute that and Aniston isn’t part of the conversation talent wise but purely on hustle, I don’t see why Aniston can’t reach for the stars tbh.
If Sandra Bullock has an Oscar then surely Aniston has prospects of ever winning one. Hope and all jazz…

        @Grant

Her ‘campaign’ is transparent which is why she’s being called out but there’s worse.

The thing is, I kind of expect such behaviour from Aniston, she needs to hustle hard. When serious actors are transparent, I sometimes feel bad for them. You would think they can relax a bit but no.

      • KatyD says:

If Aniston was a strong actress, she would have delivered by now. There’s no people holding her back because of their need for a happy ending! She has loads of money and can finance her own project like Charlize did with Monster’s Ball. She just doesn’t have the guts, the vision, the smarts, and/or the ability to do so. It’s her own fault she can’t act in quality films and not anyone else’s.

Aniston is certainly trying to go the Sandra route– she’s trying to campaign on popularity rather than talent, for sure. I think that will backfire though. Sandra has picked some quality movies with good stories to them. She doesn’t pretend to get naked in a crappy film to drum up hype like Aniston has done with Wanderlust, Meet the Miller’s, etc. Sandra has a bit more substance and doesn’t need to resort to all the cheap and tacky PR shenanigans.

Can you imagine Aniston playing the female astronaut in Gravity? That would have been a total hoot.

  11. Bea says:

Is it time for a new Aniston perfume already? Look out K-Mart, here comes Eu de Desesperee.

  12. Lb says:

Spanokopita is awesome. I have nothing else to add about Jennifer Aniston.

  13. Ennie says:

I’ve read more buzz for the maid character, performed by Adriana Barraza, honestly.

  14. Louise177 says:

It’s not Oscar buzz when it’s only your own publicist and producers of the movie are saying she is an Oscar frontrunner. I think Jennifer truly believes she’s going to be nominated throughout awards season. Her try-hard campaign could work because if voters hear it enough they may believe it too, like subliminal messaging. But if she does too long, too hard it could hurt her as well. She’s so annoying and obvious.

    • Tippy says:

      My how things have changed.

A few weeks ago people thought that Cake would go straight to video and scoffed at the notion that Jennifer Aniston would EVER receive an Oscar nomination.

Fast forward to 11/18 and she’s being referred to as a “frontrunner” for Best Actress.

FWIW: Plaid was Rachel Green’s signature color on Friends, so there may be some subliminal imagery going on with Jenn’s choice of dress.

      • You’re kidding right? It didn’t go straight to video because the producers bought the movie–no one else wanted it. She was good–the movie wasn’t. But there is nothing to suggest she is Oscar worthy.

And the only front runner I’ve been reading about is Julianne Moore? Who’s said that Jennifer Aniston is a frontrunner for Best Actress? Links, please.

      • minx says:

I have never heard of anyone saying that Aniston is a frontrunner for Best Actress.

      • Lou says:

Who is calling her a frontrunner??
The frontrunners are Moore, Reese, Pike, Jones, Marion, Adams, Blunt, Swank, Woodley………Aniston is way behind these lovely ladies with REAL distributors.

      • Natasha says:

Plaid isn’t a color. Its a style, like pleated. And I don’t get your post. Nothing has changed, only that she is talking up herself, no one else is calling her a frontrunner but her. So I don’t get your point.

  15. scout says:

She has worked hard for that “Oscar buzz” herself, so she must be very flattered herself!

  16. Luca76 says:

She should definitely talk Greek food more!

The thought of homemade Greek food sounds so amazing I can actually block out her silly faux humbleness at her self created Oscar buzz.

  17. Itsnotthatserious says:

What family tradition? Doesn’t she spend thanksgiving in Mexico with whichever friend happens to be available. This woman is so devoid of authenticity.

She reminds me of Norma Desmond, a character in the movie sunset boulevard, with Justin playing the role of the young script writer lover and Huvane in the role of her butler who was writing fan letters pretending it was fans and keeping up the illusion that she was still the most influential actress. I hope Justin doesn’t suffer the same fate as the script writer when he fell in love with a younger woman and wanted to leave.

    • Maya says:

Agree 1000 percent – Jennifer never spends any tradition holidays with her family members. It’s always with her showbusiness friends in Cabo showing off their bodies and so called friendships.

She doesn’t speak to her mother, her father found out she was engaged through paps.

It also seems that now Justin is never ever seen with his family. Infact I don’t think I have seen Jennifer with any of his family members.

PS: what happened to that character? Now I really have to watch the movie to find out the ending…

      • Itsnotthatserious says:

She shot him. When police came to arrest her, she will not leave her bedroom. Her Huvanistic butler perpetuated the illusion to the very end, he convinced her that the paparazzi cameras and lighting were from the studios and that the great De Mille was ready to do another movie with her. She dresses up so beautifully and was ready for her close up. She was so delusional that she actually believed she was making her grand entrance back in to the big time instead of being arrested for murder.

    • Yeah, that kinda made me do a double take. She’s sort of famously spent a lot of holidays on vacation with her friends. I do think last year she was at C. Cox’s house though–so that’s nice. But I also remember her on GMA kind of being defensive about the whole thing–the ‘my friends are my family’ quote….

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

I really should scroll down before responding. I commented on this above.

    • Midnight says:

you have just hurt my feelings, because I luv me some Norma Desmond. Guess Aniston does sort of remind one of her. After all. . . she’s ready for her close up.

    • Mireille says:

No, she’s never really talked about her family that much. Doesn’t she have half-brothers, sisters or something to that effect? I think these new talking points are part of the “Oscar plan” or some new image strategy to rebrand herself as a serious actress and award contender — e.g. talk about family, lay off discourse on Cabo and friends, dress more appropriately/conservatively to appear as professional, appear humble and appreciative while being asked about the “Oscar buzz” surrounding you, etc. While at the same time her PR machine is working overtime flooding the InterWeb with talks of “Oscar” where no serious accolades have been attributed to her performance.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Mireille, who wrote: “I think these new talking points are part of the “Oscar plan” or some new image strategy to rebrand herself as a serious actress and award contender — e.g. talk about family, lay off discourse on Cabo and friends, dress more appropriately/conservatively to appear as professional, appear humble and appreciative while being asked about the “Oscar buzz” surrounding you, etc.”

Agreed. In addition, all of a sudden she’s wearing ‘glasses’ to make herself appear serious and intellectual.

    • Natasha says:

Exactly! What a load of Bullshit!! She spent one Thanksgiving with Chelsea Handler of all people, just the 2 of them. She never NEVER spends Thanksgiving or any holidays with her family. And she is ashamed of her Greek features which is why she works hard to eradicate/keep them all at bay. I don’t think she has ever even been to Greece despite her money. Mexico is as far as she goes. She is as phony as a 3 dollar bill.

  18. Logan says:

This woman is So damn thirsty!
Her desperation for the oscar is showing and knows no bounds.
You need to read what So many sites are saying about her. Everyone knows its PR manufactured. She needs to calm now else when the time comes for nomination she will lose it all. http://m.celebdirtylaundry.com/2014/jennifer-aniston-flattered-about-oscar-buzz-pr-team-created-what-oscar-buzz/
That’s just one site, Lainey also is going hard on Jennifer.
She doesn’t even have a short at it at all. Most of the oscar contenders already have major magazine covers. Where is hers. Plus she hasn’t been invited for any award show. Desperation isn’t a good look girl!

  19. Jessica says:

    Spanakopita is delicious.

    • Annika says:

It is! I went to a wedding last weekend that was catered by a Greek restaurant. The food was hands down amazing.

  21. evadstructn says:

Dolmades are sooo delicious. That is all.

  22. whatsmyname? says:

She might actually fake-oscar-buzz her way to like a golden globe nom (PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN FOR GOSSIPS SAKE). Her and her people need to lay off the oscar buzz talk though, they shouldn’t be the ones giving her buzz let other people catch onto it themselves (they won’t but still).

  23. Renee says:

Spanakopita is everything…and I don’t even eat spinach anymore.

  24. minx says:

    Oh, brother.

  25. Molly says:

The “buzz” is created by her own PR team. None of the serious prognosticators are talking about her or her movie. What a ridiculous woman.

  26. Annie says:

Lol, she talks about her being Greek but has never visited Greece since she was a kid?? I just think Aniston always say something about herself that is not true just to be cool or interesting. I really think her real persona is that of a boring insecure person, and is obsessed with Angelina and competes with her. Lol, I’m not kidding.

    • FingerBinger says:

I know a lot of Italians that talk about being Italian and have never been to Italy. I don’t get why her talking about being Greek would even be an issue.

      • littlestar says:

I get what you’re saying, and in Aniston’s case it doesn’t really sound like she upholds any Greek traditions/holidays. I will say thought that although I’ve never been to Ukraine (was planning to go within the next few years but that is up in the air right now), I still at times identify as Ukrainian-Canadian. Perhaps more so though when I was younger, as I was in Ukrainian bilingual class. My family does our best to continue making traditional Ukrainian foods, celebrate the holidays, etc. But it does get harder the older we all get in my family :(. Our extended family stopped celebrating Ukrainian Christmas several years ago because it was just too hard for everyone to get time off of work at the same time. Nowadays, I make sure to make the traditional meatless dinner and celebrate with my husband and his parents. It’s nice, but definitely not the same.

      • Natasha says:

Most people don’t have the money to take frequent trips there, she does. Bad analogy.

  27. Josefa says:

The role is oscar-baity, but not oscar-buzzy. I have to say, I even feel bad for Jennifer. I don’t think she really needed a nom as much as she needed the industry to take her seriously, but the message Cake is sending is “nobody wants to see me in a dramatic role other than myself”.

  28. AntiSocialButterfly says:

    Modding my puppetmaster comment? LOL!

  29. Rusty machine says:

I am not the biggest fan of Dolmades but I could eat spanakopita until the cows come home.

  30. Belle Epoch says:

There are too many arms in that picture. Whose hand is in her pocket?

  31. St says:

Dear Jennifer – you are not getting Oscar buzz for your performance. You just show up at every “awards event” in Hollywood and show yourself in everyone’s face and pretend that you have “Oscar buzz”. Kristen Stewart does it every year with her every indie movie.

  32. Delta Juliet says:

Ok, ok we’re all talking about the spanakopita which is delicious, but will anyone share my love of baklava??????

  33. lrm says:

Spanikopita has been everywhere-even in tiny college towns there’s usually one greek restaurant with dolmas and span. And this was 20 years ago! so now with the foodie trend, I don’t see how anyone could not know what it is or have heard of it. Trader Joe’s has it in their frozen section, even-lol.
Also, it’s far from gross. It’s phyllo dough [yummy pastry layers] with feta cheese spices and spinach-same dough they use for baklava [the greek desert with nuts and sugar]. Of course, some people may just not like spinach of feta, but this ‘make fun of anything on an aniston post’ is getting comical-esp. when it’s the site writers!

If this was an AJ thread, it would probably have been written ‘Spinach and feta pie isn’t my thing, but hats off to Jolie for being adventurous with her eating and exposing her children to other cultures.’ And it would probably be implied that AJ was somehow contributing to her UN ambassador role for eating greek food.

Regardless, these greek food staples are everywhere and have been for awhile, even places without a greek population. Kinda like hummus. Though, greek fries really are the best at those greek places! Not sure if they’re actually greek, but…..

  34. Size Does Matter says:

Honest question – has anyone actually seen this movie? I found two tiny clips online, but I couldn’t even find an actual trailer.

  35. KatyD says:

I guess her PR team has taken to writing all her interview comments from here on out so no more deep thoughts with Jennifer Aniston. That’s just the sadness . . . 🙁

Ms. Fakeriston needs to lay off the Oscar delusions. She’s already pulled the wool over people’s eyes with her career running this long based on paid-for tabloid/PR antics, and a whole lot of hype over nothing. But now she thinks she deserves an OSCAR? It takes real chutzpah to place yourself on the same level of Julianne Moore, Jessica Chestain, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, etc. Some nerve.

  36. Karen says:

Last year Jennifer spent Thankgiving with Courtney, Ed Sheeran and her manager. No Justin. No dad, no family.

Who is she kidding-she is not a family, stuffing and sweet potatoe kind of gal.

  37. maddelina says:

I don’t think she’s expecting an Oscar or a nomination. She simply comes off as grateful to have been acknowledged for taking on a serious role. People complained she was doing the same old romcoms so here she is trying something different and still there’s criticism. She can’t win! Not here anyway. It could be that she’s really proud of the film and wants it to be seen not expecting anything.

    • Esmom says:

You sound far too reasonable, lol. And you are right, she can’t win here, not even when she mentions Greek food.

    • Lou says:

Then why would she hire an Oscar consultant? Why would she self distribute her film for a one week qualifying run?

She is believing her pr generated buzz. She has zero chances of being nominated, but she & her pr are desperately promoting her.

Her performance was average, yet her pr team is creating this buzz like she is the next Streep!

  38. R says:

She is giving me Barbara Streisand vibes!

  39. Twinkle says:

IMDB has a short clip from the film. I watched it. Honestly, I don’t know what the big deal is. When did going ugly equate to Oscar nom? While Charlize Theron when ugly, her transformation was total. It’s Jennifer Aniston grunting and faking pain.

    • Mimi says:

I unfortunately watched that clip. Her trying to act like she was in pain was terrible. She seems like she over thinks her acting. All you see is Aniston with no makeup, she does not disappear into the role.

  40. Raised Brow says:

I call BS on her preparing authentic Greek food for family gatherings. Didn’t Brad Pitt lovingly buy cooking lessons for her when they first married, considering she didn’t know her way around a kitchen?

    • Natasha says:

That’s right! And she doesn’t even go to family gatherings anyway. This woman is so full of crap.

  41. Ms. Thang says:

Something is going on with Justin. You take him all the way with you for a premiere of your film, and you walk the red carpet alone? Even when the other “stars” include their significant others? And again, while you show your “Cake” movie, and you both come out of the hotel at the same time. . . you go alone without Justin for Morale? I’m still saying they have a contract and he’s now trying to opt out of it. Just saying, he thinks he’s fulfilled his obligation and is ready to leave. And I agree with the comment about MS over acting in Osage: August County. It was nice to see Julie Nickerson(?) as one of the sisters. She started on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and then I saw her in the Red Road.

  42. Kim1 says:

She may cook for special occasions. She used to have 2 chefs, two sisters. They wrote cookbook a few years ago.

  43. Lucky Charm says:

As for the early awards season whispers? Aniston is surprised, saying (with a laugh) she’s “flattered” and that she reacts to the buzz “awkwardly and stutteringly.”

So she’s surprised and flattered at something she’s intentionally done herself? You are the only one who thinks that, or are you really trying to convince yourself, too?

  44. DanaG says:

I think so far it’s only Jennifer who thinks she should get an Oscar and she will be very disappointed when she isn’t nominated. If no one wanted to buy the movie it says an awful lot about it. You can go around saying it all you want without the studio behind you it isn’t going to happen. Especially if there are others who actually deserve it. I wasn’t impressed when Matthew M one he lost weight and got married it doesn’t make him a good actor it’s the same with Halle Berry and Gweneth Paltrow neither have stellar movies on their resumes I think Halle’s is worse as ever. It’s about time it went back to being about how good the actual performance is not who kisses the most butt and promotes themself. If it was based on that then sadly Jennifer would stand a chance. But her acting is so limited I think the movie and her will end up getting panned so much they wouldn’t dare nominate her.

  45. Sal says:

Really, her publicist and herself are the only ones trying to get Oscar buzz going, no one else has ever thought she was a contender. She is such a compulsive liar! And she lies SO easily. She NEVER attends family gatherings, she’d rather have Thanksgiving with Handler. She tries to erase all her Greek features. And her and Huvane have gone all out for an Oscar and we all know it, no one else is mentioning her. She is such a pathetic and shameless liar. So full of shit.

  46. Aly says:

Omg lol lets be real…jennifer Anniston will never win an Oscar. She’s just not that talented.

  47. Sunshine says:

Love Jenn I think this movie will be great how do we know it’s not Oscar worthy until it comes out and you see it for yourself.

  48. Rosen says:

Adriana Barraza deserves the Oscar Buzz that Cinelou has given to Aniston, seriously
