Keira Knightley in fur-trimmed Rocha at the Moet BIFAs: lovely or weird?

I’m splitting up the photos from the Moet British Independent Film Awards last night into two posts. One post for Benedict Cumberbatch and one post for everybody else. The Moet BIFAs are usually a pretty well-attended London event – they’re sort of like the Independent Spirit Awards of Britain. As such, no big studio productions need apply. Which might be why The Imitation Game got shut out of every award! Even though TIG is technically an independent film – purchased by Harvey Weinstein, so it doesn’t get more indie than that – the campaign around TIG definitely has a big studio feel, doesn’t it? You can read more about the awards here.

I kind of feel for Keira Knightley! She got all dressed up and she still didn’t win. Her look is… interesting. Sort of. Keira eschewed Chanel for some reason and went with a fur-trimmed (literally) Rocha dress. Her earrings are Chanel and her eyebrows look positively Delevingne-esque. Her date was her husband James Righton. Also: she doesn’t look pregnant anymore?

More photos from the event… Gugu Mbatha-Raw took home Best Actress for her performance in Belle. She looks like a princess! So beautiful.

Helen Mirren is sexier than all of us combined.

Alicia Vikander managed to stop sexing Michael Fassbender long enough to throw on this Louis Vuitton ensemble. Thoughts? It is… a lot of Fashion, you know? I kind of wish the top had been a minidress and then she just paired the dress with those shoes. It really does feel like the pants are overkill.

And last but certainly not least, Emma Thompson took home The Richard Harris Award, which is like a lifetime achievement, sort of. I think that’s her son on the left.

Are we not all Cumberbatched out yet? I mean, I like the guy and expected a flurry of posts after the engagement, but he hasn’t been off your front page since then?

    • Lilacflowers says:

Can we have more Emma Thompson instead? And more Gugu? She deserved that win.

    • NewWester says:

      Your wishes were just granted

    • Belle Epoch says:

MBP I feel exactly the same way. Every time he moves there’s another story. I guess people respond to these articles so they keep running them, but I skip ’em.

      • Peppa says:

The are over 600 comments on the post about him yesterday. I don’t get it. It feels like the tumblr crowd spilled over here. The comments about him are ummm…… strange.

    • Belle says:

Agreed with seeing way too much of Cumberbatched. It’s overdose, I don’t even read the articles anymore, the same way I skip Kardashian ones.

      • Santia says:

Skipping the Cumber-posts, too. Shall we organize a boycott? 🙂

      • GreenBunny says:

I skip them too. I just don’t see the fascination with him at all. He doesn’t do it for me. I third a boycott.

      • QQ says:

Me Too, It’s gotten to the point I won’t even click on them to even see what the frothing at the mouth is about now

in Post news: MORE GUGU Less Keira Parade of Jaw and Fug Fashions

      • Fan says:

+1000 so tired of Cumber posts.

      • jammypants says:

I slowly stopped reading them too. There’s little to no variation in the content. It’s still about the HW showmance. Yawn.

    • Santia says:

Current Cumber-post is at 200 and rising. 🙁 I fear we will get many more.

      • Belle says:

Are people really that interested in this dude to leave so many comments? It’s crazy, he breathes and bam 200+ comments. I smell something fishy. So yea we will get hit with more posts as long as comments are that freakishly high.

  2. Lindy79 says:

Not loving the fur trim…it was surplus to what the dress needed

She still looks flawless though. I watched Begin Again over the weekend, it had been on my list for a while. LOVED IT.

  3. lower-case deb says:

the red dots on Vikander’s pants remind me of those CGI dots, where they mark placements of future legs or tentacles or something.

    • Milena says:

She also looks like young Alexa Vega, who starred in Spy Kids… and by that I mean she looks about 12. Interesting mix of fashion and makeup there.

  4. Lilacflowers says:

Except for the fur, Gugu’s and Keira’s dresses are very similar.

    • Kitten says:

Yes, apparently sheaths made out of upholstery fabric are all the rage this year.

I HATE Keira’s dress and shame on her if that’s real fur.

    • Kiddo says:

Every woman in that photo line looks a hot mess. I agree with Kitten on the fur. Plus it doesn’t enhance that dress any way, real or fake.

      • Sugar says:

I agree that everyone looks bad. Gugu looks ok but that’s probably only because she’s naturally insanely gorgeous because he dress is bleh.

Vikander’s cropped pants combined with those boots make her legs look so stumpy!

      • Anne tommy says:

Helen mirren looks fantastic. As a mature woman myself I am lost in a combination of jealousy and admiration…

    • Milena says:

They look almost identical! It just goes to show that Keira’s fur dust ruffle is totally unnecessary. Gugu looks beyond beautiful, though.

  5. VoR says:

Keira’s eyebrows don’t look Delevingne-esque. To the extent that they’re similar It’s always been the other way around.

    • smcollins says:

I thought the same thing when I read that part. She’s always had thick, full brows (that I’m totally envious of!) before Cara What’s-her-name was on the scene. I think she looks beautiful, as always. And her & her husband look so cute together. 🙂

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Keira’s dress is awful and unflattering snow festival queen and those shoes with it are inexplicable. Do people still wear real fur?
    Gugu looks beautiful.
I worship Helen Mirren but hate that dress but still think she looks amazing.
Like the top half of the kid in the pimp shoes.
Love Emma but not the Rorschach test dress.

    • Kiddo says:

All hot messes. Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s dress would have been nice, had it been tailored. Helen Miren’s dress looks old-time-y bordello, and not in a cool ironic way.

    • Isadora says:

“Do people still wear real fur?”

You would be surprised. I see real fur every day on the street in winter, usually not huge fur coats, but little trimmings on jackets, pompoms on caps or silly things like key fobs. The thing is that it’s often cheaper than fake fur! Unbelievable, but true. Because when you just use small pieces for trimmings, it doesn’t have to be high quality mink. It’s sometimes rabbit, but most of the time cheap chinese racoon dog.

One clothing line here even sold their jackets with fur trimmings as fake fur and when an organisation tested it, it was real cat fur. It’s kind of absurd that all these pet owners with their beloved lap dogs or kitties wear dog and cat fur on their jackets/caps.

  7. danielle says:

Love Emma and Helen’s dress and look. Kiara looked fine, but I don’t get the shoes. Are they green? Why?

  8. j.eyre says:

While I agree with the assessment of Alicia’s overall look, I covet those boots/booties in a very undignified way.

  9. Sos101 says:

The dress is interesting she looks lovely…and dare I say fuller in the face. Possible bump watch?

  10. Ennie says:

Keira’s face looks different as in weight gain different. If they are dying for a baby I wish them good luck. For some people is like a breeze, but for some others can become a long and even difficult process.

  11. Jacqueline says:

Her son is on the left?! I didn’t know she adopted

    • Peppa says:

He was a child soldier in Rwanda and her and her husband took him into their family when he was 16. He is in his mid twenties now. They never formally adopted him, but he is still considered their son.

  12. Peppa says:

Keira’s dress reminds me of a Barbie dress. I like Alicia Vikander’s shoes. Those pants are horrid, though. Gugu looks fab.

  13. Mikasa says:

What happened to her baby bump? Did she lend it to Cumberbatch’s fiancè??

  14. Tig says:

I had assumed the trim was faux fur. I like the fit of the dress. Helen’s- I like the drama of the neckline, but looks like it’s too tight through the hips. Can’t wait to see her cosmetic line ads! Emma’s- not so much. Who’s the man in the pic- that’s not her husband is it?

  15. Mollie says:

Mirren. She’s just everything. The way she stands, smiles, everything is always just so perfectly naturally sexy.

  16. mkyarwood says:

    Lovely AND weird!

  17. Ethelreda says:

Alicia looks like a 14 year old playing dress up in this picture.

  18. joe spider says:

Dame Helen got it wrong for once and the way she is standing doesn’t help

KK’s would be great without the trim – it doesn’t need it.

Emma’s looks like and explosion in a fireworks factory.

  19. FingerBinger says:

Gugu Mbatha-Raw is an awesome name and she’s beautiful.

  20. claire says:

That was weird. I totally thought in the thumbnail that was a pic of Kendall Jenner, somehow looking more interesting than normal.

  21. maddelina says:

Helen M’s dress looks awful. wth? I dont like Emma T’s dress either.

  22. Nick says:

More Gugu please. Love that woman.

  23. A. Key says:

    They all look horrible.
I mean they’re all beautiful women, but WTF were they thinking?!

  24. Max says:

I love Keira’s look in magazines (not when she’s acting with her jaw and pout) and she’s just so incredibly pretty. But she does not deserve any acting award. She’s not an impressive actress. Sorry. Gorgeous and likeability is not talent.

  25. Sheena says:

I don’t think Keira is pregnant… maybe she gained a little weight and if she did, she looks amazing and shouldn’t lose any of it.

  26. I Choose Me says:

Mirren wins it for me not because I like the dress but she looks so confident and like she’s having fun. It’s that general vibe/attitude that makes her so sexy to me.

Keira’s dress would have been great without the fur, faux or otherwise.

  27. jammypants says:

Her style has been on point this promo tour, but this outfit doesn’t quite work.

  28. Carrie says:

Alicia’s outfit would be cute minus the shoes. If she wore some simple black strappy things or something it would be much better.
