Jennifer Aniston on the tabloids: ‘I think everyone knows it’s all B.S.’

FFN_Leftovers_Prem_RAM_062314_51460198

Just before Christmas, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux made their annual pilgrimage to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Cabo is Aniston’s favorite (and one of her few) vacation hot spots. This year’s Cabo trip seemed slightly different though – in years past, the paparazzi have gotten tons of varying-quality photos of Aniston lounging around in bikinis (while Justin wanders around in jorts), but this year there aren’t that many photos. Hm. I don’t really have a conspiracy about that, I’m just pointing it out.

Justin and Jennifer have been vacationing with the same couple-friends they always spend time with: Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly, Howard & Beth Stern, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. Interestingly enough, George and Amal Clooney are also in Cabo with the Gerbers. So… both vacationing groups ended up meeting and partying together. According to Us Weekly, everybody went to George’s house for dinner on Sunday and “George’s chef cooked for everyone and they had a ton of wine and tequila.” Obviously. And a source couldn’t wait to drop this to Us Weekly: George and Jennifer “are talking about making a movie in Cabo. Jennifer is really excited about it and wants to do it. They stayed for hours and didn’t get back to their house until very late.” A movie in Cabo? The Days of Tequila & Jorts.

Meanwhile, Jennifer gave an interview to CBS’s Sunday Morning (which will air on January 4). She was asked about her tabloid queen status and all of the pregnancy/wedding/breakup rumors that constantly swirl in the tabloids. She told CBS that she deals with the rumors by not paying attention:

“Just don’t pay attention. I think I used to really, there was a period where I was hell bent on saying, ‘That’s not true, that’s not right, that’s not fair.’ And now I just think you have to let it roll off your back and you realize, I think everyone knows it’s all B.S. and like a soap opera on paper. The main thing is to try to just keep refocusing back on what you know is true and what makes you guys happy. We know what our truth is. That’s all just static.”

[From E! News]

Yeah… I mean, some of the tabloid stuff is just straight-up nonsense, obviously, but Aniston and her publicist do so much work to keep her position as the #1 Tabloid Queen (see the Us Weekly story about Jennifer and George Clooney, above). And her publicist is always directly commenting on all of the “rumors” too, so it’s not like “oh, I’m not even paying attention.” She’s paying attention. As is her publicist.

Aniston also sort of pretends like she’s not waging one of the most aggressive Oscar campaigns in recent memory by pretending all of her nominations came out of nowhere. She told CBS: “We were a little teeny weensy movie made for four dollars and we poured our hearts into it and everyone worked so hard, so that this is happening on top of that, it’s just like a huge giant juicy cherry on top.” She was asked if Cake proves she’s more than just a rom-com star and she said: “A little part of me saying, ‘I told you so?’ Maybe a teensy one.”

After her 676th pregnancies in 10 years,i start to doubt about the tabloids

  2. mimif says:

    Teensy weensy annoying.

    • Mimif! You’re here…dazzle me!

And yes, I’m sorry. The only way I would be convinced of Jennifer’s acting skills, is if Roger Ebert came down from movie heaven, and said so. Other than that, just based on all of her previous films, and the trailer for this movie, she is a bad actress. I can’t stand her brand of comedy/acting tics. Just like that chick off of Big Band Theory.

      • jen says:

        Big Band Theory

I’m waaay to old and its waaay too soon after New Years for my brain to process that this morning. lol

      • Wilma says:

I’m actually hoping she is good and will pursue less vapid roles. As the mother in Almost Famous says: ‘it’s not too late to become a person of substance’.

      • funcakes says:

I miss gene and Roger so much. They were the best at analyzing actors and movies. Lucky for Aniston they are in movie heaven. They had no patience for her type of movies or acting for that matter.

      • Artemis says:

Big Band Theory: that’s a show I would watch. Make it happen…

      • MrsBPitt says:

VC…I saw the trailer for Cake, too…was curious what all accolades were about…SHE IS THE WORST ACTRESS…I cannot believe she is getting recognition for this performance. She is okay in her rom-com’s (basically, because she is always playing Racheal from friends)…I saw her in Derailed, when it came out and I remember thinking, “stick to comedy, Jen” and the years have not improved her dramatic acting talents….The only thing I can think is, she is being awarded for gaining ten pounds and not having her hair and make-up done! If that is the case, I should be given an award every day!

  3. Does anyone know if her movie has even gone out in theaters yet? I thought one of the rules for the Oscars was that it had to be out in theaters–at least in a limited release format–before December 30th, for one week. Has the movie come out yet?

And yeah, I find it funny that she’s trying to pretend like she hasn’t shilled her butt off, and spent tons of her own personal money getting it out for awards consideration. Which would be an interesting talking point, I think. About how she believed in this movie so much, that even though no one wanted to buy it, she decided to work with Cinelou to get it put out. The process that went into that. Instead of pretending like everyone was swooning over her movie, and fell all over themselves to buy it.

I’m still curious as to how her career’s going to go, for the next year or two.

    • lisa2 says:

I read that it is in about 20 theaters around LA.. but I curious why no numbers have been released.. Selma was in 19 and American Sniper in just 2 and we got numbers. I think it is obvious that she pays very close attention to gossip. And as noted her PR guy responds to every dumb story out there all the time.

regarding the party at Clooney.. LOL.. Emily and her husband were seen leaving LA on Monday. So how were they parting with the “gang” on Sunday. No pictures. We saw pictures of George/Amal/Cindy/Rande altogether; but no pics yet of them all getting together. Well I’m sure the party was fabulous.. and I laugh that we get a story about it.

      • kendra says:

I caught that also, just name dropping but no pictures. I will believe she was at a party with Clooney when I see pictures.

      • T.C. says:

I know. Where are the numbers or general audience reviews of this film of hers? As I said before the movie BELLE had terrific reviews and made money at the box office but that actress is not getting any nominations for her fantastic acting while Aniston with a film that hasn’t made any money and given less good reviews critically is getting award nomination. Pisses me off.

And of course she didn’t invite the paps to Carbo this year. Got to look “serious” for Oscar voters.

      • TremeHBOfangrl says:

Is there anyone that can link me to a review from a critic who has seen her performance, talks about her character and the film, and says she deserves this kind of award season buzz?

I only ask because it seems her machine’s strategy has been to put the cart before the horse.

I kept reading articles that talked about ‘buzz,’ from people who hadn’t seen her performance, with the oft repeated, ‘it started generating ‘buzz,’ AFTER A STANDING OVATION AT THE TORONTO FILM FEST.’ <–When anyone familiar with Toronto Film Fest (TIFF) knows all of the film premiere talent gets standing o's for showing up, being intro'd and waving to the audience in the balcony under the house spotlights after the film credits. This tactic to keep saying that over and over in these articles, seemed deceptive and a sham.

So I'd just like to read a critical review from a critic who thinks she really deserves it. I personally don't believe they exist.

Also, Pete Hammond & Co. who wrote the aforementioned 'TIFF standing o buzz' fakery does not count. Find new ones.

    • The Original G says:

Her career’s not going anywhere. She has three films that are going nowhere: Life of Crime, She’s Funny That Way and Cake. HB2 is a cameo in a film with dismal notices.

She’s aging out of rom-com into endorsements. Even if she wins an Oscar she has no go-to. Serious roles for women are sparse to begin with. She may be a giant tabloid figure but her fans don’t make any box-office. Her legacy as an actress is set. Rachel rom-coms.

It wouldn’t surprise me if she went on try a career as some sort of fashion maven with jewellery, lifestyles lines?

      • That’s what I was thinking. I don’t really think that her role in ‘Cake’ is going to make the dramatic, serious directors beat down her door. Except for maybe indie films–if she keeps doing stuff like ‘Cake’, where she’s the biggest name. And helps finance it (did she with ‘Cake’?). But she can’t keep paying for Oscar campaigns every time she puts the mascara down.

Perhaps it’ll force her into doing more directing/producing. I liked her segment with ‘Five’ that she did for lifetime. Or not. We’ll see. She has nothing on the drawing board, and despite her nominations, I don’t think it’s been a really good year, professionally for her.

Last thing she can do is a wedding or a break up.

      • The Original G says:

But what evidence is there that she it has any director/producer abilities or interests? She can hardly put a sentence together, how’s she going to convey her vision in a film? On the contrary, she like doing what she likes doing and she’s been very successful, not to mention richer than G*d.

I think we’re more ambitious for her than she is. She’s had a great career and there ya go.

BTW, her very illustrious co-stars in Cake (Anna Kendrick ,Sam Worthington ,Mamie Gummer, Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy, Chris Messina) seem to be laying very low? What’s with that? Why aren’t THEY our promoting this film?

    • Bridget says:

We all know that overly aggressive Oscar campaigns don’t backfire at all.

    • Janet says:

It’s not playing anywhere in or around NYC as far as I know. Maybe it’s showing in some place in Podunk. I think the strategy could be to keep as many people from seeing it until after the Oscar moms come out so nobody will know before then bad the movie is.

      • The Original G says:

You could be right. Jen has some momentum here that the film won’t. That’s why I was skeptical of her chances? There’s no compelling business or artistic case for this nomination. Oh well. Good for her.

  4. The other paige says:

‘The Days of Tequila and Jorts’.
    Genius.

  5. I’m guessing that they’re being low key (because usually Dailymail’s full of pictures of Jennifer and her friends in bikinis and jorts, lol) because of her newfound Oscar campaign/manager. Gotta be taken more seriously. And lounging around in a bikini with a margarita in one hand, does not an Oscar winner make (in this case).

So I find it ironic that NOW, all of a sudden, she’s able to find some place where the paparazzi can’t get to her, yet she gave an interview in 2010 to Access Hollywood about how the paparazzi were constantly on her while she was in Cabo, and that the hotel should help with that (I remember they showed some video of the hotel employees holding up mirrors and flashing/directing light at the paps that were in the water). ORLY?

    • Bridget says:

They don’t stay at a hotel, they stay at a private residence. Usually Joe Francis’ s house… which I sincerely hope is just a rental and not because they’re actually friends.

      • funcakes says:

It’s to early in the day to think about Joe Francis. God he is shady. (Making gagging sounds )☺

      • The Original G says:

Kill me for knowing this, but Joe Francis’s house is in Punta Mita and Jen usually stays at Las Ventanas in Cabo.

    • GoOnGirl! says:

Aniston isn’t taking picture of her Mexico vacation because, seriously, have you seen her body? It’s not what it used to be. She’s gained weight and like a lot of women, it’s all gone to her stomach. Otherwise, the world would have been over saturated with pictures of her “banging” body.

  6. Maya says:

Here I was hoping 2015 will be the year Jennifer Aniston will stop lying and being hypocritical about things, stop those “sources” telling magazines about her so called celeb CAA friendships, her being passive aggressive towards every single human being.

Alas – some things will never change I guess. Jennifer will continue to plant and deny, bribe her way to nominations, passive agressively attack her friends & fans & media, play the pregnancy game and lastly constantly reassure people about her relationship with Justin.

PS: funny how no one mentions the fact that not only did Cake get a limited release this week and the production company is refusing to give up the numbers for boxoffice. But the fact that this movie had an embargo on reviews for almost two months and only now some of them are released. The reviews are pretty bad so I understand the game Jennifer played. Wait until the votes for nomination have opened and then release the reviews.

PPS: Yep Jennifer should just stop with the acting surprised and humble. She has topped the list of the most under deserving, desperate and aggressive Oscar campaign in the history. People and some well respected hollywood insiders are already calling her out on Twitter.

PPPS: hopefully this will be the year someone will finally expose the PR games Jennifer and her agent are playing and has been playing.

hahahaha with you all the way. lets wait and see if the academy nominates her

    • Esmom says:

You are right that some things never change.

      • Jaine says:

i guess they never do. also your bias for the other couple shows too…..
i was glad no one paid attention them on the last angie thread…. they were expecting a hissy fit for the first comment. they must have been disappointed

      • lisa2 says:

        @ Jaine..

glad I was not the only one that noticed that. Nobody took the obvious bait; despite the others that were trying so so hard to get it going… and I was glad.. great way to start the new year.

      • Andrea1 says:

Exactly. I usually don’t comment on any aniston post but I have to say this. They must have been really disappointed no one answered them and in the end they all looked stupid.
And yes I also thought that was a good way to start the year!

    • GoOnGirl! says:

Thank you for saying this. I could not have said it better!

    • The Original Mia says:

      *slow clap* Brilliant!

    • TremeHBOfangrl says:

I tend to doubt the Clooney ‘partying.’ Us Weakly often pulls things out of their azz. I did see a snap from a couple years ago, where they (she and her rent a fiance) supposedly hitched a ride on his plane back to the states, Stacey Kiebler was then in tow. If Clooney is able to tolerate her now, I’d say it has to do with her poseur dude, who seems to have always had famous friends while being mostly unknown himself. Clooney could be another one of his pals. GC wasn’t seen anywhere near Aniston before him. Maybe George likes men in jeggings. Not that I’m spreading rumors.

Also, here we go again with Aniston telling us how she never pays attention to tabloids BY TALKING ABOUT TABLOIDS CONSTANTLY. She’s such a genius.

    • Leah says:

True. I hope so too, Maya.

  7. epiphany says:

    “Everyone knows it’s BS”
Yes, you more than anyone, as your PR guru is the source of this “BS” designed to keep you in the public eye!
I’ll give her this, she’s waged a stellar campaign for awards season. If she put this much effort into her acting, she may even be good at it. #nomakeupdoesntmeangoodacting

  8. scout says:

Everything they all do is by design! They LOVE to be news, they pick and choose which one to release and hide. Shameless.
BTW, I almost thought GC got arrested today, amazing doppelganger this one!

So yes, in that case sure I agree with her: we all know it’s BS

BS = Best Strategy (for keeping her profile as high as possible without actually being particularly talented or interesting)
      never thought of that 😉

  10. Belle Epoch says:

Interesting choice of friends. I guess Uncle Terry avoids sunlight.

    • Maya says:

Yep what an interesting group of friends JustJen have.

Uncle Terry is busy taking advantage of underage girls at Joe Francis’s house while Chelsea Handler is busy being drunk and posting naked pictures of herself in the name of feminism.

      • mimif, are you sure we’re not related? Lol, I have an aunt that puts kahlua in EVERYTHING. Everything.

      • mimif says:

Is that the aunt that drinks beer all day, or was that your grandma? I no remember nada. But yes, I definitely hope we are related because you’re a smart gal and I desperately need more intelligence in my shallow gene pool. 🙂

      • Kiddo says:

You are thinking of Auntie GoODnames, Virgilia Coriolanus.

      • Lol, mimif. The aunt that drinks beer all day (and travels with it in a cooler in her trunk) is my GREAT aunt–who used to bring my mom clubbing, and let her smoke weed at her house. And hasn’t waxed her mustache since 1980. At least.

The kahlua aunt works in a jail, and all of the inmates are scared of her. Every time they won’t listen to the guards (because some of the guards that she works with are punks), as soon as she gets on the intercom, they scatter like roaches….haha.

You can be my ‘other’ kahlua aunt mimif….or something. I’m sure after a few we can be as related as we want to be.

      • Esmom says:

Ah, thanks mimif, that helps. Are you around for lunch and dinner, too? I’ve got some laundry that isn’t going to do itself. 🙂

  13. BNA FAN says:

Didn’t Brad told Diane Sawyers, about 10 years age “I know my truth” when DS asked him if Angelina Broke up his marriage and he said empathetically NO! Now his X is saying, “We know what our my truth is”. Can this woman have an original thought?

    • She seems way too concerned with what tabloids write about her. Just like the last story about her. It would’ve been a non-story, crap that no one paid attention to, if her publicist hadn’t issued a response about it. As far as issuing a response, I could see if it had been a truly hurtful story, that blew up on the internet, on news shows (like, lol, that story about Brad and Angelina divorcing from some british tabloid that ended up on CNN)–but no.

I hadn’t even HEARD of the story until I saw it on this site, and I glance through the online tabloids pretty regularly. And of course they’d respond to a story that pitted her against Angelina, yet when those BS stories about her and Brad getting back together and raising Shiloh together/the bio kids together came out, it wasn’t an issue.

Just ignore them. Responding to a BS story creates another story. One that we’re still talking about and analyzing. I still remember when Huvane responded to that baby food diet rumor in a statement a few years ago.

    • RobN says:

It’s a pretty common expression. I kind of doubt she noted Brad’s use of it a decade ago and saved it up for just this moment.

    • GoOnGirl! says:

Thank you BNA Fan for picking this up. I noticed the same thing. It should now be apparent to everyone that Aniston copycats and coat tails people whose name I will not mention.

      • Leah says:

Unfortunately though, as we can see, there are still some in denial. What is obvious with blinking neon lights spewing confetti is not to some others. The denial is really strong. Sometimes I think it will take an atomic bomb mixed with a tornado and a tsunami at the same time, to penetrate it.

  14. Jayna says:

I don”t believe a good portion of what’s printed in rag mags. US Magazine has real stories but also has a lot of made-up stories and sources. I used to read it and realized basic facts they even had wrong that I knew. And this quote is just plain silly. They are on vacation now, when this story was being printed to put out. So who would know this? I don’t believe either one put that out there. It’s just a way to build a story around photos of the stars on vacation.

“Us Weekly: George and Jennifer “are talking about making a movie in Cabo. Jennifer is really excited about it and wants to do it.”

    • I think 90% of it is crap, and the other 10% is halfway believable because it’s based on the way that the certain celebrity is perceived by the masses/based on whatever dumb thing the celeb said that week.

But then you get stuff like the hacking from News of the World…makes you wonder how much is true, and how much isn’t.

      • lisa2 says:

People that work for tabloids have said they get pictures and write stories based on the picture.

I have seen stories about celebs based on a picture.. a picture that has been cropped and edited.. Then I became a member of fansites for my favorites and saw the videos and full pictures and knew the lies. I stopped buying and reading tabloids. It still just blows my mind how people still believe BI.. but only for the celebs they don’t like; or the ones they want to be true.. then run around all over spreading these stories as if they are true

If Jennifer wants people to believe the stories are BS then she should stop responding to them and stop using them in her talking points when she is promoting.. Not having a child and not being married and not be judged are her new talking points.. taken from the headlines.. Why bother.. Why not just do your thing. Every celebrity gets the wedding and baby questions. The narrative is different for her because it is all around the other narratives about being the left wife and some people wanting her to get the last laugh and have what others have. Dumb and 10 years later should be stopped.

      • maddelina says:

lisa2, she just said it’s bs. How much more blunt and honest can she be? She doesn’t owe anybody an explanation of her private life re when she’s going to have children, get married etc. Tabloids make shit up at an actor’s expense. It’s up to you whether you want to buy into it or not. Unlike the Sony hack which was a personal opinion of someone. Once the narrative is out there people who are into celebrity want to hang onto it to satisfy their hatred or adulation of a certain star. Weird is what I have to say about that! How can you be emotional about any of them when you don’t know them as they really are?

      • Alma says:

@Lisa2, thats true, news who are obviously untrue are taken very serious by people who dont like that celeb. i disslike Aniston but i dont believe everything they write about her.

      • lisa2 says:

        @maddelina..

I have read so many comment from you repeating tabloid stories as true; commenting on them as fact.

and you really can’t come to me about being passionate about someone I don’t know.. you do that all the time.. and nice that you were able to get that hacking thing in.. I didn’t say anything negative about Aniston. nothing. I said she calls BS on the stories then says she doesn’t pay attention.. YET her PR guy responds to every gossip story about her. If she didn’t pay attention then why even bother. Those are her words and actions.. not mine.

I don’t care if she has kids or not. I don’t care if she marries or not. I don’t have kids.. not married.. and not looking to change either. So I am hardly going to attack her for her choices.

You are an Aniston fan.. I”M not.. you don’t like Angie or Brad..So perhaps you should read your comments here and remember them the next time you comment on their thread..

        bet you won’t..

      • The Original G says:

@maddelina. I’ll believe her when she stops making her tabloid presence a subject of every legitimate interview she does. Unfortunately it seems that she has nothing else to talk about.

      • Krystal says:

@maddelina “Once the narrative is out there people who are into celebrity want to hang onto it to satisfy their hatred or adulation of a certain star. Weird is what I have to say about that! How can you be emotional about any of them when you don’t know them as they really are”? Pot calling kettle ? You fell right into a hole.

      • Leah says:

There are plenty of opinions, but I think a Sony person who doesn’t even know her has less credibility than ex room-mates and ex-boyfriends..

  15. Bea says:

I wonder if the Oscar strategist poorJen hired gets the hives every time poorJen opens her teensy weensy mouth and these cringe-worthy bon mots trickle out from her teensy weensy brain.

Oh well, I’m sure some poorJen will give her some Aveeno for them.

  16. Pumpkin Pie says:

I find her so bland. So bland. I don’t love her, I don’t hate her. She doesn’t bring out any kind of emotion in me. I can’t say why.

    • FingerBinger says:

I agree. I don’t find Jennifer Aniston interesting at all. I am fascinated as to how a bland person is so polarizing.

      • Peppa says:

Me too. I do not understand why some of these women HATE Rachel from Friends so much. She is just a cruddy rom com actress to me!

      • Leah says:

Perhaps its her fans that are responsible for her being polarizing.

    • GoOnGirl! says:

The baby questions would stop if for once Aniston said something to the effect. . . my life has changed. I’ve moved on and I personally don’t want children at this point in my life.” Enough said.

  17. Bridget says:

Has anyone seen recently pictures of Jen? For a woman who is known for looking great and not tweaked, she finally crossed ovee into over-filled. Obviously she did the pre-awards-season-this-will-settle-just-in-time-for-the-Oscars but she’s got the same vaguely puffy look that Brad Pitt has now.

  18. funcakes says:

If Jennifer never mentioned the tabloids her career would evaporate.

  19. kendra says:

So she is going to get a Oscar nom on a movie, the public will not get to see until the nominations come out. Is that how it works?

    • Janet says:

Yep, because they don’t want anyone to know until after the Oscar noms what a POS the movie is.

      • DJ says:

How do you know it is a POS? Have you seen it? And why are you so concerned about Cake BO numbers? Seriously, if it is a POS as you have so boldly stated, then there is really no need to worry, now is there?!

  20. siri says:

Aniston & Clooney in: “Tequila Sunrise 2″…yeah, that’s it! 😉

  21. Andrea1 says:

Of course she cares, where would she be today if she wasnt the tabloid queen? Would anybody hire her for a movie? I dont think so. That her narrative, thats her real career. Without that divorce/marriage and the ongoing tabloidstorys, she would play a mom on a sitcom on cable-tv.
They all care! Thats their job.

Okey-dokey, puzzle of the week: where is “Cake”?

It was supposed to go into limited distribution by 12/31/14 in order to be in Oscar contention. If it didn’t get released by 12/31 it’s not eligible for any kind of Oscar, at least not this year. It’s not playing anywhere in or around NYC. I can’t find where it’s playing anywhere. Maybe they released it in some garage in Podunk?

And if it is in limited distribution, then where are the box office reports? “Selma” and “American Sniper” started out in limited release and the box office reports on both movies were available the day after they came out — excellent reports, for both of them. So why aren’t we getting any box office reports on Cake if it’s out yet?

Something is not adding up. American Sniper has only been in 4 theaters prior to general release and it’s already made over a million dollars. Ditto Selma. So why are they hiding the numbers on Cake? Do they even have any numbers yet? The only reason they would have for hiding them is that the numbers are so low they don’t want to discourage people from seeing the movie once it goes into wide distribution. People already want to see American Sniper because the box office feedback is so good. Why is none of this happening with Cake? There is only one answer that makes sense: the movie stinks.

    • Anastasia says:

You got me curious, so I did some digging. Rotten Tomatoes is reporting Cake will be out on a limited release on January 23. Does that really mean it’s not eligible for an Oscar? Not that it would get one…advance screenings have a critic rating of 41%, which is pretty bad.

I’m going to check a few other sites now.

Edit: Fandango also says Jan. 23, but not in any theaters near me.

    • LAK says:

Janet/Anastasia: the criteria is that it has to have had a public viewing for 7 days in the Los Angeles area by that date.

Some people upthread have confirmed that it has indeed opened in LA.

The January 23 date is for general release even if that run turns out to be a limited run.

      • Janet says:

Evidently it opened in one theater in Torrance (LA County) for one week. Rather an inauspicious beginning for a movie that is trying to generate Oscar buzz. Are they trying to market this as some “mystery movie”, like some come-from-behind dark horse? If so, they are failing spectacularly because all the focus seems to be less on the movie and more on how Aniston and her team are desperately courting everyone in sight for any kind of award nomination.

  24. Frosty says:

Meh. She’s playing the PR game. Every actor must, sooner or later — this is a business that will forget all about them in a few days if they are not “out there” some how, some way. Hate the game, not the player?

  25. Anastasia says:

Justin must be doing hair plugs or Rogaine or a partial wiglet or something, because I just saw him in an old episode of Parks and Rec and compared to these pictures, he had much less hair five years ago. He also needs to stop with the tanning.

    • He had a bald spot when they got together–there were some pics of him and Uncle Terry shortly after he and Heidi were over, and when they rolled out their lovey-dovey pics (taken by Uncle Terry)..I remember because Kaiser said something like “Oh…and he has a bald spot.”…..shortly after that came the metrosexual look. He already looked ridic because of his ultra skinny jeans, the bajillion key chains, etc….but then came the orange, overly tanned looked, guy liner, mascara…he looked like a wax, orange figure for a LONG time. He’s backed off of it.

  26. TotallyBiased says:

    @Janet, Anastasia–
You both inspired me, so I applied the ol’ Google-Fu (of which I have some skill) to get the following:
Eligibility requirements cover length and certain technical requirements which I won’t detail here.
    Films MUST, however, be screened
    For seven consecutive days.
    For paid admission.
    IN AN LA COUNTY CINEMA.
Advertised to the public “according to Industry standards.”
Which means Cake was in a theatre from Dec 25 to 31.
On Dec 30, one day before the last screening day, the LA Times put up a softball of a review, praising Aniston but mildly shading the film itself. Didn’t make the film sound like something one would want to make the effort to see, in fact.
At the end of the review, almost in passing (rather than at the beginning) is a note about where the movie is playing.
    AMC Rolling Hills 20, Torrance.
Worth noting that their FB page has a splash announcement for every other Oscar contender related film they had showing in the month of December–but you won’t find out Cake was there!

    • The Original G says:

I’m sure that Jen and her team have met the required standards. After all, all we’re talking about is a 7 day theatre rental. That’s lunch money for Jen.

I guess the bigger question is whether Jen has the momentum to turn this into a nomination? Are there Academy members who feel that it’s somehow her “time?”

      • evasmom says:

I just read on another site that she is receiving an award this weekend for her performance in CA? I cannot believe that ye this woman will probably be nominated and may win an Academy award. And for what? Clearing her throat after every line and wearing a prosthetic scar?

  27. LAK says:

She’s trying to change the conversation…..

    • The Original G says:

Yes. I wonder, though, if she can hold that new conversation for long?

    • I think she’d do better at changing the conversation (when it comes to tabloids/rumors about babies, when she’s getting married, any type of feud between her and Angelina), if she just ignored it and didn’t comment. I mean, I get the occasional article in PEOPLE/Gossip cop that says ‘this ain’t true’….but other than that? Waste of time AND it gives the tabloids another story.

  28. I also find it funny that she’s saying WE made this movie, yet it’s just her shilling herself. Which isn’t a bad thing. But don’t pretend that you’re doing this for everyone else in the movie. No one else has gone to any screenings, done any magazine covers/interviews for this movie.

  29. kim says:

Do you guys watch DP/30 interviews?
I just found JA’s interview, and it felt quite sad i have to say.
People coming out here usually have really interesting films in their hand, and discuss the charactors and meanings without any showbiz barriers. And this time I hear A LOT of self-praising, less about her charactor and work.
Even when unimpressed interviewer tries to ask valid questions like is she expecting more casting consideration through the GG nomination?’she goes kick it away as far as she can.
