Lady Gaga in Alaïa, with stupid gloves, at the Oscars: tragic or avant-garde?

wenn22223014

Lady Gaga’s red carpet look was… not good. It also reminded me of Amal Clooney’s stupid Golden Globes gloves and how bad gloves are now some kind of “trend.” Gaga wore this overworked Alaïa on the red carpet and she kept saying it took hundreds of hours of construct. This? Really? This super basic silhouette? I guess the sparkles took extra time. People were also meme-ing her gloves, which… I understand. But it’s Lady Gaga. She really wants her gloves to be the most talked about thing. Which is weird, because her performance of The Sound of Music medley was shockingly good. I hope people are talking about that today, not her gloves. Even Julie Andrews was impressed!

And here’s one view of Gaga’s Vanity Fair look. Super-boring (for her).

wenn22225745

Meanwhile, Solange Knowles somehow got an invite to the Oscars…?? She wore this Christian Siriano ensemble. Is it a dress? Is it a jumpsuit? Is it a suit? Is it all the things?!

  1. Dirty Martini says:

    It wasn’t meat.

    • TeaAndSympathy says:

She’s an oddball dresser at times, so I quite liked this on her. The grandma hair/wig, though… Nah.

  2. Paige says:

Her performance was one of the biggest events of the night. It was amazing.

    • Kiddo says:

It really was. She has so much more talent than the vast majority of pop stars and hid it with antics, for a while.

      • Otaku fairy says:

I knew she had talent before this, when I saw a video of her performing one of her songs live somewhere a few years ago. But most of her hit singles have been poppy-techno-dance type things, and sometimes when a singer goes that route, it masks some of or a lot of their vocal talent.

      • FLORC says:

It’s so amazing to see her actually show off her talent. She’s become such a side show act and only known for her stunts. She can sing the pants off of many acts that are today’s pop stars.

    • Pinky says:

I thought it was fairly pageant-y and mediocre. She was tying too hard and it wasn’t up to par. She can do much better, but all that affectation got distracting and she ended up missing some key moments. Next time she should be herself because she does have a great voice (when it’s not drowned out by techno noise).

      • Kiddo says:

You’re a tough customer. Even Julie Andrews was moved beyond belief. Gaga played it like an opera, it worked.

      • minx says:

I know what you are saying. I thought it was her interpretation of the songs, not really a note-by-note re-creation of, say, how Julie Andrews would sing them. But I really liked it; I thought she made it her own.

      • frivolity says:

I agree, Pinky. I know nothing of Gaga’s career, but all I thought after hearing her sing those songs that I know by heart was … wow! Julie Andrews is so talented beyond belief and her voice was and is incomparable.

      • Kiddo says:

No one is going to be Julie Andrews. Yeesh. it was a homage and not an attempt at exact replication.

      • a cut above says:

I was pleasantly surprised by the performance. No one is going to BE Julie Andrews, but I don’t think Gaga was trying to do an exact copy, either.

At the end of the performance, I thought to myself: wow, I forgot that Gaga can actually sing. If that was the intention, she nailed it.

      • anne_000 says:

        @Pinky: +1

I agree with you. She seemed so corny, like an over-dramatized amateur player.

      • Amelie says:

The only time I’ve heard Lady Gaga is with the show she is doing with Tony Bennett. I had no idea that she has the pipes ( and soul) she has. She was terrific and I don’t think she was trying to be Julie…

Re: outfit, the gloves don’t bother me because, I viewed the dress/gloves as a costume. It kind of looked like a female version of what Flash Gordon would wear.

Great rendition of tunes from the Sound o Music though–brought me to tears.

      • cyndi says:

        @Amelie–
THANK YOU!! I kept looking at those stupid gloves trying to remember which Super Hero had them!!! I think these are a combo of the ones worn by Flash Gordon and Aquaman!! (Without the fin look!) 😀

    • Sarah says:

It really was! After her performance at the Grammy’s and now the Oscars, I wish she would develop the self-confidence to just be Gaga and get rid of all the stupid costumes and personas. It always just seems like she is hiding behind them. The woman has talent. Focus on that Gaga!

      • Tristan says:

You are 100% right. She can sing like an angel & she actually comes across a zillion times better just being more natural. She doesn’t need all the gimicky stuff anymore

      • Tiffany :) says:

I agree. I wish she would believe in her talent enough to let that stand on its own. I thought she did a great job at the Oscars.

    • Mia V. says:

Gaga has a great voice and at her beggining she had good pop songs. It was a nice tribute!

    • BooBooLaRue says:

This. She has a lovely voice. Lovely tribute!

    • GlimmerBunny says:

She was SO GOOD. I got chills when she sang the “Climb Every Mountain” part. Her performance look was really pretty too!

    • Samtha says:

It was the only moment of the whole night that really stood out. She was spectacular.

    • Gea says:

She was just Devine ….truly great performance . Bravo Lady Gaga!

    • Hally says:

Her performance was amazing. I loved it, Julie fricken Andrews loved it! I just wish she’d chosen a nicer performance look, and put her hair up or at least lost the extensions. It feels like she is always hiding behind something, but with that kind of talent she doesn’t have to!

  3. minx says:

All is forgiven after that spectacular performance.

    • EC says:

Yes! She was one of the highlights of the night. It was such a wonderful tribute, and she really put aside all her gimmicks on stage and honored the movie. And how talented is she, when we get down to it? Just amazing – I loved it.

  4. the blonde one says:

O good, Lady Gaga has now entered her Evita Peron stage.

  5. Kitten says:

That dress would be hideous on anyone except for Solange.
I just enjoy her style because it’s so distinct and so unusual.

Gaga looks ready to clean toilets with those gloves.

    • sills says:

Exactly how I feel. Solange just has that “it” factor for me, she always brings something original and owns it completely. I’ll admit this isn’t my fave outfit on her but hair/make-up/accessories are gorgeous.

    • Santia says:

I don’t know, ya’ll. Solange looks like she’s about to jump out of a plane. Not a win in my book.

    • Beckysuz says:

I think they look like red musketeer gloves. Not good

    • Hally says:

That Alaia did not look like Alaia, but it totally would look good on solange.

  6. V4Real says:

For once she looked beautiful during her performance; so normal. I hope she realizes she doesn’t need all those costumes . She sounded and looked great last night on stage.

    • Stephanie says:

I agree, amazing performance and she looked stunning.

    • a cut above says:

I also hope this marks the beginning of a new, costume-less Gaga era. She’s decently talented and doesn’t need the distractions, like Katy Perry does.

  7. Rachel says:

All she needs is some goggles and she’ll be a dead ringer for the evil scientist from Despicable Me.

  8. Miran says:

The answer is always the same with her, defaults to tragic 99.9% of the time. The black one from the VF party isn’t terrible.

  9. Lilacflowers says:

Gaga is going on a tour to clean ovens.

  10. mia girl says:

What in the heat-miser he!l is Solange wearing?

  11. Ginger says:

One commenter compared her gloves to a just having washed the dishes look. I can’t NOT see that now. The dress was awful but it’s GAGA she always wears something weird. I actually thought it was a bit demure for her.

  12. Kiddo says:

I liked the pops of red. It was interesting and didn’t veer into absurd. Much better art-piece couture than Marion Cotillard’s, which was a mess. I abhor the second black dress and the pose is tres terrible. Christian Siriano disappointed, this time, but Solange is strikingly beautiful, maybe more-so than Bey, IMO.

    • WardLittell says:

Oh bravo for you, Kiddo! ITA, I enjoyed Gaga’s look very much. The OTT gloves kind of balanced the exaggerated lines of the dress, for me. I hope Amal got a nice little smile from it all too.
Ditto Solange, she can carry off pretty much anything as far as I’m concerned. (A relief from the stifling ‘I’m a sexy mermaid princess’ from most gowns, anyway)

    • michkabibbles says:

I agree with you guys-loved her outfit! There was so much boring on the red carpet last night (so much sparkly beige!). Gaga looked like a sparkly superhero. It was a mix of high fashion and absurdism, which she does really well (sometimes; sometimes it’s just cray-cray). But I thought this was super fun.

  13. Joanne_S says:

I remember being so blown away when I heard her piano&vocals rendition of “Poker Face” performed for BBC radio in 2009, and thinking, wow, why can’t she just do that full time instead of focusing on increasingly stupid outfits and overproduced dance songs… (and horror!, the worst was still yet to come!)

And today, her Oscar performance makes me so happy. It took six years, but dammit, she’s finally showing the world what she’s really capable of. Go Gaga!

    • Tiffany :) says:

It made me happy to see her embrace her voice in front of such an intimidating audience.

    • Lisa says:

I loved her pre-Born This Way era. The album had some great moments (Judas, You And I, Electric Chapel), but she just got too shticky and her music was blah. She could never seem to top Bad Romance! She was incredible last night.

    • fun factor says:

I couldn’t agree more! Gaga was superb last night. I hope she will continue to showcase her beautiful voice instead so many gimmicks.

  14. scout says:

Ah, there it is. Those gloves literally looks like shiny dish washing rubber gloves, must never be a trend. I am so glad she ditched the dress and gloves, changed in to beautiful elegant dress, looked and sang like a superstar! Her heart shaped diamond ring was blinding me from the stage! Haha.

  15. jwoolman says:

I wonder why Lady GaGa hid herself behind all the gimmicks for so long? She really has quite a voice.

  16. Tracy says:

Let’s just be very clear: Gaga at the Oscars! HOLY HELL. She was just incredible. Not just for her absolutely note-perfect, rich singing and phrasing, for her gorgeous appearance and for her overall performance. That was fantastic. But, most of all, for her un-effing-believable versatility! My God. She was just brilliant, and along with the powerful performance of Glory, she was the whole show. Neil Patrick Harris was boring and so preening, and the locked box gag was endless and over played, then just turned out to be an unremarkable parlour trick carried out at poor Olivia’s expense. (Humility, Neil, humility….try it, or it tends to get forced upon one.)

But Gaga? GENIUS. Just a brilliant performance. Gaga’s one of the rare birds who’s actually got the talent chops to pull something like that off.

Hey, Madonna? Girl, that’s how it’s done. Gaga’s not about cheap shocks. (Not to be confused with performance art.). She’s true creativity mixed with hardcore talent and stirred with hard work, reinventing herself often not just to re-prove herself, but simply because she has so much to mine in the talent department. I honestly think she tries new things for her own amusement. Who wants her to look like every other ingenue, or worse, every other 35 year old trying to look like an ingenue? (I’m looking at you JLo!). Gaga’s going to be making my damn jaw drop for decades to come, whether it’s a pop performance, a classic rendition or arriving in a damn egg. And last night, she proved beyond any doubt –again– that she doesn’t need a ton of plastic surgery, a sparkly 90s-esque matador outfit and 30 chorus boys fawning around her ankles to do it. Madonna had a great schtick going for years, but with minimal voice talent, no acting talent, and mediocre dance talent –all of which Madonna herself has admitted, to her credit– she was an incredible, but ‘one note’ artist.

Gaga has so much ‘real deal’ skill, that she’ll be mixing and matching, reinventing and amazing us forever. And is kind and humble, to boot. Even Julie Damn Andrews loves her, singing songs she herself had made famous. Now THAT’S impressive.

    • Trillion says:

I can’t think of any of her peers who could’ve pulled this off nearly as well. Superbly done, Gaga. This is one for the Oscar history books.

    • Skins says:

Was never much of a Gaga fan before, but I am now

      • WardLittell says:

God she gave me shivers down the spine. Terrific performance, and it highlighted the modern mania for decibels, or startling lung power, over a rich and melodic voice such as this one. A real pleasure. 🙂

    • briargal says:

All I can say is WOW!! I am quite a bit older than most of you posters and I can truthfully say that I was SHOCKED! I kept close eye on her lips thinking “Sure, someone is back stage and she is lip-syncing (sp) to it all.” But no, the girl can really sing. I understand that she had to use all the gimmicks to get noticed and a following but that AIN’T THE CASE ANYMORE! SHE CAN SING! She has a beautiful voice and now that people are getting really tired of all the gimmicks, she can just SING! I’ve always been a little skeptical about people who need the gimmicks and drama when singing as itis mostly to counter what little talent they have. But I truly appreciate someone who can just stand there and belt out a song. Gaga (Stefani) just needs to realize now that she doesn’t need all that other garbage. You go, girl! Comments from an old lady!

    • QQ says:

Everything you said Tracy, she is SUPER tiring with the antics but she has Talent in Spades and she Killed it at the Oscars… minus those stupid gloves… In FACT : WHY DIDNT SHE WEAR THAT FANTASTIC BLACK DRESS and Called it a day

    • it'sjustblanche says:

Haha. JLo wishes she were 35. 🙂

  17. curleque says:

Why “shockingly good”? You can tell she has an amazing voice–one of the best out there today. She’s a trained artist. I’d like to hear Beyonce attempt to sing like that live.

Does she use gimmicks in her career? Yes, but it got her noticed as an artist. There are many people who have amazing voices whose careers never get off the ground. And then there are those with no talent, mediocre performers who are the creation of producers, who seem to do no wrong.

    • Alexis says:

I get what you’re saying, but Beyoncé is a bad example. Despite her sexy image and famed exuberant live performance style, Beyoncé is a talented vocalist. She could have handled the very material Gaga took on yesterday, for example.

Literally any other major pop act: Katy, Taylor, Rihanna, etc. would have worked. Most singers today can’t sing.

  18. Marianne says:

The gloves were definitely cow birthing gloves. So Fug. I mean, I get this is Lady Gaga and we’ve seen her in crazier things….but I wish she had either went full on crazy or went demure (like she has been doing lately). So pairing this ballgown with weird gloves just doesn’t make sense to me.

    • briargal says:

Maybe she has to slowly morph back into a normal person. One step at a time. I agree her dress was okay–maybe if she had to wear color gloves they should have been regular cloth gloves–not the dishwasher gloves like she wore. She did look fabulous when she was singing. But the swinging of the skirt during the song made me think she was itching to do something gimmicking and shocking but she was desperately trying to hold it in.

  19. dr mantis toboggan says:

Gaga’s back and faaaaaabulouuus!!! The difference between her and all the other pop tarts, including Madonna, is that Gaga is an extremely talented singer.

  20. Cynthia says:

Solange was DJing the after party and her dress for the after party was amazing, she looked gorgeous. I guess she wanted to be alternative with the jumpsuit even though I love the colour on her. Gaga performance was impressive but NO to the gloves!

  21. Live singing? says:

Was it just me, or was Gaga not singing live? Everyone else was live, so I was expecting her to be too, but it seemed that she was obviously lip syncing? Am I wrong?

    • Claudia says:

Yes, you are wrong. She was singing live. She’s that good!

    • Tiffany :) says:

I have worked with other performers who have sang at the Oscars, and they sang live but pre-recorded a backing track in case anything went amiss during the show (it was kept very low in the mix, but could be turned up if needed). It is possible they did that with Gaga, but it probably was just production insurance so to speak….not because she couldn’t pull it off live.

  22. Tig says:

I was totally blown away by her performance- and I’m not even that crazy about SOM!! And you could tell that Julie Andrews was truly moved. Gaga should drop the gimmicks and show the voice- hopefully, that’s where she’s heading now.

  23. kibbles says:

Lady Gaga’s voice is great. I think she is a better singer than Idina Menzel whom I also consider to be very talented. I am glad that she is focusing more on her vocals these days. But let’s be real. Would any of us know who she is today had she started off wanting to become famous solely on her voice? I don’t think so. Talent is not rewarded in pop music today, especially if you don’t look like Taylor Swift or Katy Perry. Lady Gaga got what she wanted through her crazy antics. Now that she is famous, I hope she lets that go and focuses more on creating good music and less on wearing ridiculous costumes.

    • briargal says:

I agree with you and hope she gives up the fake image and antics. She doesn’t need them anymore and fans are getting tired of them. Just sing, girl, you have proven you can do it!

    • jammypants says:

Gaga is pulling a Beyond the Lights and it’s working.

  24. Katie says:

Love her look just not with the gloves.

  25. Mindrew says:

Bleurgh. Why was she there anyway? She sounded fine (although he still came off as pompous as usual with that “look at ME” attitude of hers), but I thought the whole ‘tribute’ to the Sound of Music was absolutely pointless . It just made another painfully long and slow ceremony even longer. Sorry, but other than the songs/scores up for awards and possibly an opening number, there isn’t any need for more music. The damn show without the ‘tribute’ songs would still have clocked in at over three hours.

    • briargal says:

Sorry but for me the highlights of the show was the music–Tim singing a song by Glen Campbell, the Glory song was great, and Gaga was fantastic. And especially seeing Julie Andrews walking out on stage was wonderful. And the memorial tribute to the movie people who passed away this past year was moving. It’s much more than just awards and acceptance speeches!!

      • briargal says:

An added thought–maybe a whole lot less of the host would have been better! He wasn’t that good! The whole predictions in the box was stupid!

  26. Laura says:

“Don’t you understand this is an Alaïa… he’s like a totally important designer!”
I like it, it’s perfect for her, some flair but it fits the occasion.

  27. kri says:

I actually jumped up off the couch twice-when Common and John Legend performed( cause I needed tissues), and then again when Gaga performed. I knew she could sing really well, having seen her just play piano and perform, but I didn’t know that she could do THAT. I was in awe. My wish is like so many other ones I see on this post-just sing, Gaga. You don’t need to pop out of eggs, or give birth to a troupe of dancers or whatever. just sing, because wow!

  28. paola says:

Benedict Cumberbatch: move it Gaga! You have to wash those glasses quicker! Out there they’re going bananas for more champagne! People keep handing me dirty glasses!

  29. poop says:

“shockingly” good?? have you never seen her do a live performance? one of the best voices in the business

  30. M.J. says:

I kind of liked Gaga’s Oscar dress, but I didn’t like her gloves or hair. But she really sounded fantastic last night, which is no surprise to me. She can truly sing just about anything.

  31. Neelyo says:

Gaga looks like she’s standing behind a frame of a dress and she’s about to step out in some revealing costume to do a number.

  32. Santolina says:

At least those gloves fit (unlike Alamooney’s). Gaga is finally focusing on her true talent, singing to the rafters. Along with bringing the house down, I wish she’d also brought her man, but Taylor was home, she said in the pre-show interview. It was probably the right thing to do, keeping the focus on her singing and not having it be about their engagement news. Still, I love seeing the two of them together.

  33. Cara says:

Gaga was sporting a brunette bob recently, and looked SO pretty- sad to see it didn’t last.
She’s a talented woman- nice to see genuine vocal skill these days!

  34. nicegirl says:

When she sounds like she did last night, I do not care what she wears. She is a true talent! Gorgeous gorgeous GORGEOUS!!!

    A heart-lifting performance!

  35. it'sjustblanche says:

I will say this nice thing: I loved Solange’s hair. Even if it’s not her hair, I just love that look.

  36. Fran says:

Looks like she forgot to take off her rubber cleaning gloves.

  37. serena says:

I guess Gaga’s red gloves are the only thing that make her outfit noticeable. Otherwise it’s just a boring huge dress. meh.

  38. Joh says:

I’ll take GaGas’ crazy over the top over someone like the over the top ( over sexualized) Jennifer Lopez any day.
And like Miley Cyrus’ SNL40th performance showed , Gaga and her have real talent that does get hidden by their antics!

  39. Carol says:

The Glove Thing. Amal Clooney had a good idea, but her gloves did not fit. They looked like they belonged to Minnie Mouse. Lady Gaga also had a good idea, but her gloves were poorly designed. I half expected her to brandish a toilet brush and can of cleanser. If you want to do gloves right check out the classics like Liz Taylor, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn. Fit and style matter!

  40. Carol says:

The Glove Thing. Amal Clooney had a good idea, but her gloves did not fit. They looked like they belonged to Minnie Mouse. Ladt Gaga also had a good idea, but her gloves were poorly designed. I half expected her to brandish a toilet brush and can of cleanser. If you want to do gloves right check out the classics like Liz Taylor, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn. Fit and style matter!

  41. Jen says:

Lip synced. Most definitely Gaga’s voice and no doubt that she is a true talent, but the performance was 100% D.A.T. Smart move, though. I want to hear more of THIS from her!

    • Kitten says:

Yeah I didn’t watch the Oscars but a LOT of people are saying she lip-synched.
She does have an undeniably great voice though-whether she was lip-synching last night or not.

    • Jackie says:

I doubt you can lip synch at the Oscars. It’s her live voice. Yes, I know people can’t get over the fact she can actually sing, but it wasn’t prerecorded.

      • Kitten says:

Why wouldn’t you be able to lip-sync at the Oscars? It’s just like any other television event.

        Also, tell that to Beyoncé.

      • Jackie says:

If she lip synched her performance you would have definitely heard about it in the media. Whenever someone lip synches a song, the media is all over them for it. She isn’t an exception to the rule. If she did, they would call her out. Since you brought up Beyonce, she’s a perfect example. They called her out. The lip synch claims are coming from a few people on the internet. All the celebs that saw her perform, didn’t even say anything either.

      • Kitten says:

..except people ARE calling out Gaga.

I’m not that invested in arguing about it because I don’t really give two sh*ts either way, but I’m not naïve enough to just assume that with as much as there is riding on an Oscar night performance, that Gaga wouldn’t take very precaution to ensure that it’s flawless, including pre-taping her vocals..

        *shrugs*

      • Jackie says:

        @ Kitten
I haven’t seen any media outlets claim she lip synched her performance. People are only speculating that she lip synched.I couldn’t even find anything on Google.

      • Tiffany :) says:

        2 things:

        1. Lip-syncing and having a backing track are different. Syncing is to pretend. To move your mouth to sounds that are not coming out of it at the time. Having a backing track means that you are legitimately singing, but there is also a version that you prerecorded that is playing along with you. Some artists are dependent on backing tracks, some have them there just in case.

        2. From my experience, even the most talented of singers are asked to record backing tracks to use at the Oscars, so that if a technical issue arises, the show still goes on. It is kept low in the mix, and gets turned up if necessary.

      • Amelie says:

I read that Lady Gaga trained with a vocal coach for months for this performance. It doesn’t make sense that she would make this kind of effort and not perform live. As I observed her- I have many years of classical training-she appeared to be a bit tense during her performance and relaxed as she sang the final note. She sang the medley in a straight style, literally until the final note of ‘Climb Every Mountain,’ when she took a bit too much rubato for my taste. THAT is the only criticism I have of her performance. She has been touring with Tony Bennett and did an album with him…she is apparently widening her artistic horizons and has a lot of talent to draw on.

    • HK9 says:

It was lip synched. The recording was her fabulous voice but it wasn’t live. There are certain things that move involuntarily when you’re actually singing and they weren’t moving. It don’t judge it, it was fabulous but it wasn’t live.

      • Ravensdaughter says:

Spoilsport-let us revel in the fantasy just as we do every time we see the movie. Apparently the real Maria Von Trapp was quite the control freak stage mom, etc. etc.

  42. Tania says:

Stop with the gimmicks and just SING Gaga! Cause you’re amazing!!

  43. Otaku fairy says:

She did a good job. And I like the black dress. Lady Gaga’s antics were never something that bothered me, because I like the antics and showy stuff that pop stars do and because making people see you and talk about you is a huge part of being a celebrity and an entertainer, regardless of talent level. My only problem with her was her nasty, hateful fans (which I guess wasn’t fair for me to hold against her, since celebrities have no control over what their fans say). They seem to have died down a little bit though.

    • Jayna says:

My problem was her pretentiousness about her “art” all the time, giving these overwrought interviews about her pop songs, trying too hard, and my last beef was Artpop was so average. She needs to do better songwriting the next album.

  44. Lucy says:

She was absolutely flawless. All is forgiven on my account. Go GaGa!!!!

  45. Jonesy says:

Sorry, but the sailor-esque tats on Gaga are trashy.

Solange looks like disco-era Diana Ross.

  46. Ravensdaughter says:

That was the Red Carpet dress. Nevermind…her “Sound of Music” performance was nothing short of astonishing, and the flowy dress-granted, she wasn’t quite sure what to do with it-fit right in.

    I looked the fake trees!

  47. Dr.Funkenstein says:

Lady Gaga, coming to a car wash near you.

  48. laura.e says:

    Looks like my Ikea bedsheets.

  49. Adrien says:

Ha! We are all closet little monsters.

The dress she performed in fits weird and the tattoos look trashy and were very distracting. She kept lifting up her right arm and all I could at was the trumpet or whatever that thing is. She is quite a performer. Hope she can lose all the crazy antics and focus on the music. I think she is gradually dialing back. Not as many weird shoe platforms, etc.

Doesn’t she have recurrent issues with her joints-knees and/or hips-anyway? That’s something that definitely gets worse with wear and tear plus time, so she would have to dial down anyway

It’s a burden for her but it’s a blessing for us! Sure, she could be Madonna Part 2, but take away the song/dance routine and concentrate on just the music and….wow…forget Madonna!

I know Julie Andrews was impressed, lip synch or live….

On anyone else, I would have hated it, but given her history of a sartorial kookiness, I really thought it worked. The gloves might not be to everyone’s taste, but they do scream GAGA.

Solange is also head over heels more interesting than her sister when it comes to fashion.

is it anti-american to say i am so over som? watch victor/victoria if you want to see awesome julie andrews not to mention lesley ann warren. nph was his usual amazing self. and for me the best musical entertainment was glory and the tribute to the movie selma (which we all knew would never win) and mlk. i don’t think mlk would be happy to see that his dream has not advanced beyond the stage it has. people who have the world stage should keep this issue front and center. and keep fighting…..
