Shailene Woodley wears Ralph Lauren in London: elegant or too mature?

Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley stepped out in London for last night’s Insurgent world premiere. She didn’t make a major splash with this Ralph Lauren dress, which isn’t surprising. Shailene isn’t into clothes, makeup, or any of the usual movie star trappings. I’d still like to see her have more fun with the red carpet experience. This is a girl who doesn’t mind talking about her sunshine vadge but chooses conservative dresses almost every time. This dress isn’t awful. The back view and side view are actually lovely. From the front, it’s a non event. I think losing the crochet sleeve detail would have been a fine move.

Shai’s chemistry with Theo James here is nonexistent. They look so awkward together. To be fair, he doesn’t exactly ooze charisma on his own.

Shailene Woodley

Shailene’s preparing for her role as Edward Snowdon’s girlfriend (Lindsay Mills) in the upcoming Oliver Stone movie. She spoke to E! about the NSA whistleblower and why she considers him a hero:

What’s a hero? “I define a hero as somebody, who against the judgment of other people, if they believe something will positively impact the world and they choose to do it and honor their integrity, that’s what I sort of consider a hero, no matter how big or mall a feat they create. And in that light, absolutely I think that Edward Snowden is a hero.”

Her words to Snowden: “You are the epitome of the word selfless. You did something knowing you wouldn’t be able to come home, knowing that your country would have very mixed feelings and yet your integrity on what you believe was right or wrong or should be public knowledge was more important to you than almost your own comfortability and the life that you had lived for so long. So I would like to say thank you to him.”

[From E! Online]

Since this is an Oliver Stone movie, the controversy factor should be high. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Snowden, and you can see him in character in this Facebook photo. Shailene is playing an exotic dancer in this movie. You can see photos of Lindsay Mills in action at the Mail. I can’t wait to read Shailene’s interviews about pole dancing.

  1. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

I heard the Snowman song Informer is going to accompany the trailer. Seems apt.

  2. Grace says:

Her definition of a hero describes also a criminal or a dictator LOL. This girl is so dumb

    • Dońt kill me i'm french says:

She has a good point in my opinion.

      dictionary.com defines a hero as :

      1. a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

      2. a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal.

Many biblical or historical figures were heroes according to some and criminal/terrorists for others
I think about someone like Malcolm X ( I’m reading a biography on him)

    • Lin says:

No it doesn’t. Emphasis on “positively impact the world”. Also, what positively impacts the world for me could be different from what other people believe positively impacts the world.

    • a cut above says:

Do criminals, dictators or terrorists act with honor and integrity and positively impact the world? Not by my definition, although I guess your mileage may vary.

      • original kay says:

But what is a criminal? someone who breaks the law?

By definition, Raif Badawi is a criminal, convicted and in jail in Saudi Arabia. For blogging about choice. He was convicted and sentenced to 1000 lashes and 15 years. For blogging.

In his country, he is a criminal. To me, he is a hero and I fight for his release.

Dictators act with honour to those who follow. They impact their world for which they stand, to those who believe in them, with honour. It’s not what we call honour, a hero, or integrity.

        It’s subjective.

But calling names is also not a positive impact, no? Calling someone dumb?

again, subjective. I find it rude to name call, but that’s my opinion.

      • Lin says:

        @original kay
        Exactly my point

    • Angela says:

      @ Don’t kill me i’m french
She said ““I define a hero as somebody, who against the judgment of other people, if they believe something will positively impact the world”
This can describes also dictators because they clearly think that they’re making something

      • Dońt kill me i'm french says:

Grace wrote Woodley was idiot .No,Woodley’s point on the hero is not idiot

  3. The Other Maria says:

I like the dress, perhaps a different color would look better for her skin tone, but her body is on point.

I do like me some scruffy Theo.

    • Suzanne says:

I came down here to say that i love the dress! it’s very pretty, but the color does wash her out a tiny bit. ivory/cream/white isn’t for everyone.

    • Bob says:

It amuses me that Theo’s beard mirrors his hairline in terms of thinness.

I like the dress. I hate it when actresses are criticized for dressing “too conservatively.” It’s so anti-feminist to expect women to be more ornamental. Or to assume that she would be having more “fun” with the process if she made more daring fashion choices. Maybe it’s more fun for her to wear something that she is comfortable in.

    • md1979 says:

Beautiful dress and shoes. Seems actresses can’t win – they cover up or dress elegantly, it’s “too mature”, they show some skin, it’s “too sexy”.

  4. Movie lover says:

That movie about Snowden will be bad. Every Stone’s movie was bad in last two decades. And Joseph Gordon Lewitt seems more Clark Kent than Snowden

  5. Annette says:

I don’t see much hype for this movie

    • Dani2 says:

I honestly didn’t know it comes out in less than two weeks, the only place I’ve heard about it is on celebitchy and ONTD, i haven’t seen anything on TV, or YouTube or billboards, nothing. I wonder why.

    • Mom2two says:

If the trailers are anything to go by, it looks terrible. Theo James is a charisma vacuum, sadly.

  6. GlimmerBunny says:

I actually thought they had great chemistry in the first movie. The romance was the only believable part of the movie IMO.

    • Rachel says:

See, I actually felt like they had ZERO chemistry in the movie. All of the relationships in the movie just lacked something for me. They didn’t take the time to develop the relationships as they should have.

  7. Dani2 says:

I think she looks very pretty here, she has a great body and she has a pretty face.

  8. Jessica says:

“I define a hero as somebody, who against the judgment of other people, if THEY believe something will positively impact the world and they choose to do it and honor their integrity, that’s what I sort of consider a hero, no matter how big or mall a feat they create.”

This logic makes Hitler is a hero. Hitler, from HIS perspective, was positively impacting the world by murdering millions of Jews and other people.

    • original kay says:

How do you define a hero Jessica?

      dictionary.com defines a hero as :

      1. a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

      2. a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal.

This definition also could be applied to Hitler, depending on whom you ask.
How would you change the wording?

    • Sissi says:

      @Jessica
      +10000

    • Lin says:

Well unfortunately for all of us, there are people out there that consider Hitler a hero. What I consider heroic may not be considered heroic by other people. Those things aren’t objective.

      • original kay says:

        ^^ this

case in point: Melissa Etheridge taking such offense to Angelina being called a hero because she, AJ, had a double mastectomy.

it’s subjective, whom we call a hero, whom we choose to believe is worthy.

  9. INeedANap says:

Just for clarification, Lindsay Mills is not an exotic dancer i.e., a stripper. She’s a dancer and acrobat in general, and one of the dance forms she practices is pole dance.

  10. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I like the dress and think she looks lovely. She is so inarticulate, though. Cringeworthy.

  11. Janine says:

She though that she could be nominated for an Oscar for Fault and she had take a top Oscar consulent. LOL

    • Josefa says:

That movie was sappy as hell but Shailene truly delivered an excellent performance. If that movie came around closer to December and she campaigned more actively, I think an Oscar nom would’ve been totally plausible.

This girl is irritating as a rash and dumb as a rock, but she’s a very good actress.

      • Franca says:

She just cried a lot. Any actress from a Mexican telenovela could have pulled that off.

  12. OriginalTessa says:

Does she have scoliosis? Her spine is curved like a moon. That must be painful in heels all the time.

    • TrixC says:

I think so, yes. I remember reading an interview with her where she was talking about having to wear a brace for years as a child

  13. Amelia says:

I see scoliosis too! She has a very typical S curve to her spine. Either she is confident of it in which case good for her, or there was a VERY sloppy stylist move going on here.

  14. serena says:

Wow, didn’t know her body was so amazing! That dress is really beautiful, what I don’t like is the fug hairstyle.

  15. Cc says:

    She looked beautiful.

  16. kri says:

That dress is stunning. Woodchuck Sunbeaver is making my PMS acute.

  17. Alessio says:

I agree on the whole “she wears too conservative” but maybe it’s just her style or stylist who cant come up with anything different? This look looks exactly the same look she always wears, which is disappointing because she can work a lot of different clothes judging from editorials and stuff. im not a huge divergent fan but i’m v excited for insurgent and i do believe they have great chemistry and it pretty much sold the movie to me.
and as for the definition of a hero, idk. i don’t think dictators fall under that definition, dictators might act on the fact they think they will positively change the world like you’re all saying, but the thing is they act on for selfish reasons. they might think it’s good but it comes down on the fact they’re doing it for themselves, and snowden doesnt fall in that same category imo

  18. Josefa says:

The dress is rather boring, but it really compliments her figure. She’s got a great body. This is one of the better looks I’ve seen her wear (which isn’t saying much as her style leaves much to be desired).

  19. Raina says:

She looks beautiful and not matronly at all. I like her hair with a middle part and the look from the back is very sexy. Love it. People who bash her all the time annoy the bejesus out of me. She’s not great at articulating her thoughts, but the essence of what she’s trying to say is always very clear to me.
