Robert Pattinson tried to dance at Coachella: embarrassing or fine?

wenn22378006

I’m not a dancer at all. Not even when I was a kid – I didn’t take any dance classes, I took gymnastics. I could probably still do some impressive tumbles, but can I dance properly? No. Never. So I’m easily impressed when someone, anyone can manage to casually bust a move without A) falling down, B) looking like an a—hole or C) accidentally hitting themselves or someone else. Like, I was genuinely impressed with Cressida Bonas’ Mulberry commercial, even though most people threw shade.

What’s my point? I don’t actually think Robert Pattinson’s Coachella dancing is mind-blowingly terrible. Is it good? No. But it’s not so awful that I have second-hand embarrassment for him either. Sparkles was at Coachella throughout the weekend, catching his fiancée FKA Twigs’ performance, and then Sparkles and Twigs caught Drake’s performance Sunday night. Which is where some undercover fans took some videos of Sparkles’ rhythm-less moves. Here you go:

You can see more of his dancing here. I don’t even think we should say this is “dancing”. It’s more like he knows he can’t pull it off, so he’s just smoking his cigarette (I don’t think it’s a joint, although he probably is high) and bobbing his head like a typical dude. So, is Rob’s dancing a dealbreaker for you?

I thought it was funny! I like it when people don’t take themselves so seriously and just have fun.

I’m biased though because my sister and niece ran into him overseas once and he was a complete sweetheart to them. Niece was eight at the time and so excited she started crying.

    • Liv says:

He’s not even dancing. Leo DiCaprio was telling, but this is just having a good time.

    • Cricket says:

Thanks for sharing story about your niece. I love hearing when celebrities are kind to their fans, especially kids. Have a soft spot for Sparkles and he does seem and looks like a very happy guy now.

  2. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

First of all, I’m a terrible dancer, so I went into this with a great deal of sympathy and open-mindedness. I wouldn’t even say he was trying to dance, he was just listening to the music and bobbing up and down. I do that sometimes because it gives the impression that I can really dance, but just feel like focusing on the music right now. Until someone asks me to dance and my cover is blown. But I thought he was fine.

    • Esmom says:

Ha, GoodNames, as a fellow bad dancer my thought process was the same as yours! And I saw his moves as not even an attempt at dancing but more just swaying.

Unlike Leo D’s kung fu dance stylings, this was definitely not a deal breaker. I still have a soft spot for Sparkles.

      • mia girl says:

Yeah, I read yesterday where Lainey tried to equate Leo’s laughable Coachella moves last year with Rob’s bobbing and I’m just not seeing it. She seems to go out of her way to sh*t on some people. But hey, she’s thinks Beiber is hot so she’s got that going for her.

Rob looked a little dorky sure, but as @danielle said downthread, it’s actually endearingly dorky.. Leo looked like a damned fool, only further punctuated by more karate kick foolery on a boat a month or two later.

  3. Abbott says:

That was an interpretive dance of the soul. The head bobbing he gives betray a profound understanding of subtlety, the restraint of a genius. He purposely, almost defiantly avoids hitting the “correct” beats.

He needs to take those hot moves on tour.

  4. danielle says:

Endearingly dorky is my vote. I like when people don’t dance well, know it, and dance anyways, just because its fun.

  5. Trinity says:

    Best ever lol
Rob keep it up & it was more head bobbing than dancing but whatever it was – he looks damn happy right now.

  6. Toot says:

I think it wasn’t bad at all.

There was a new video posted last night with Rob and Twigs dancing together. Here’s the clip on Youtube. https://youtu.be/_yf2ZrJB5uA

    It was kind of hot.

    • Anname says:

Why can’t this be the video that went viral….LOL.

I hope he doesn’t stop dancing in the future after all this attention, he looked like he was having a great time. At least most articles seem to say it’s cute and funny.

    • Nerdmomma says:

Yup. They are a sexy couple. I do love to see them together.

    • Mi says:

This video is more fun and beautiful to comment. He smokes e-cig not joint.I don’t understand this need to shade him,if he was doing drugs for all Twilight years he would have been caught a long time ago.

    • Hannah says:

That’s cute. Something about him coupling up with her makes him hotter.

  7. Vee says:

He’s adorable and happy, bobbing to the music.

  8. Lilacflowers says:

The sweat-stained t-shirt has distracted me from the dance moves.

  9. OSTONE says:

Adorable! Love me some sparkles even if the pretty went away! I would still hit it.

    • Me says:

The pretty went away? No, no, no, he’s been getting better and better. Plus he’s working out now and it’s beginning to show! Yum.

  10. Skye says:

    Awww. So cute.

  11. Original T.C. says:

For a minute there I thought he was either going to fall down or have a seizure. For a guy who plays music and whose girlfriend is a great dancer I would think he would have SOME rhythm but nope. Even the head bopping was completely off beat. I’m too embarrassed to even laugh at him. Weird, but maybe he had too much to drink.

    • Nicolette says:

That was my thought too, he looks like someone who has been drinking and is just feeling the music and having a good time.

  12. Jayna says:

I didn’t watch it on principle. Dancing should be about freedom, moving to the music, not some perfect rhythm or new booty dance. If he was feeling the music and enjoying it, that’s his private moment, not for me to critique or make fun of.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, it must be so creepy to have people secretly filming your every move. I know he wanted a career that puts him in the public eye, but now everybody has a camera. You can’t even adjust your underwear without somebody filming it. It must get so tiresome.

      • Cricket says:

+1000! Even though he is Sparkles and a celebrity he like everyone should be able to go to a concert and dance like no one is watching! It’s terrible that there are cameras everywhere all the time, I would be so paranoid I wouldn’t want to leave my house.

    • Carmen says:

“Dance like nobody’s watching, love like you’ve never been hurt, and…” How does he rest of it go?

  13. lunchcoma says:

I think it’s kind of cute, and I felt the same way about Leo’s dancing. The world would be kind of a dull place if the only people who could dance in public were those who were amazing at it.

  14. Lauren says:

    I feel embarrassed for him.

    • D. says:

If you find it embarrassing – you must be living a dull grey life, never going to music festivals and letting loose. The only good thing is the guy clearly doesn’t give two sh*ts about anyone’s opinion and is just having fun.

    • Cricket says:

If that is embarrassing, I’m very glad there were no cell phone cameras in the 80’s or 90’s. I can’t imagine the images that would have been caught.

If u want to truly experience embarrassing ‘dance’ moves check out some Grateful Dead concert footage. I loved going not just for the music but to see the spinners, you get high from their fun.

      • Ava says:

Dance like no one is watching. LIVE YOUR LIFE! Life is meant to be lived. You go Robert!

  15. serena says:

That was not dancing, more like ‘feeling the music’, but it was not terrible. Kinda cute even, from him.

  16. Lucy says:

Oh, come one. He was watching his girl perform, enjoying the music, having fun. He’s adorable.

  17. Lexi says:

I have always had a soft spot for him. I thought it was cute and I love that he always looking like he ready to touch figs. They’re so cute together.

  18. Deidra says:

I’m feeling for this guy. It seems he’s doomed to get flak for anything he does, even for the most ordinary and innocuous things. Thousands, if not millions, guys move exactly like him at the gigs, but some creep filmed him and it went viral and now every site and blog is analyzing and criticizing his moves. I personally like that he’s slowly getting out of his shell (maybe, his new gf is the one to thank) and having fun like all the normal guys of his age.

    • Joyce James says:

I agree with you 1000 times. No matter what this man does, some creepy stalker is always filming him and all the trashy gossip magazines are analyzing and criticizing his moves. He should be able to have fun his way. I would not expect him to dance like his girlfriend since she is professionally trained.

    • Me says:

A+++ so this! It’s not like Rob has ever courted the attention either. He stays on the down low most of the time. Obviously he’s massively recognisable and people will take pics/vid, but I hate to see anyone ridiculing him for it. He wasn’t asking anyone to watch. Plus he’s a sweetheart.

  19. RobN says:

My wedding vows included a section on how neither party would force the other to dance, so I do not judge the moves of others.

It is too bad that he can’t just have a good time.

  20. Carmen says:

He may have looked a bit like a disjointed wind-up doll but the bottom line was he and his fiancée were having a marvelous time. I like them together. She’s obviously crazy about him and unlike the lip biter she has no problem showing him that she genuinely cares for him. She’s made him happy and that is what matters most to him.

  21. MrsBPitt says:

    Life’s short….everyone should dance!

  22. Melymori says:

I don’t think he would try to dance in public. To me, he was just feeling the music, the smokes and alcohol.

  23. Cody says:

Reminds me of the episode from Seinfeld with Elaine dancing at her office party.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k23ynqcwiuk

  24. Jade says:

Yea he’s just feeling the music, it’s cute. I like him and I like them as a couple. Just do your own thang Rob!

Leo was funny though…but hey at least it’s something different from seeing him on the red carpet!

  25. Tig says:

Unless folks are paying to see a person dance, critiques are pointless. Dancing is fun, and if you can’t bop/nod/dance at an outdoor concert, that’s sad. Hope Rob and Twigs keep on dancing. Totally agree how awful it must be to have every move filmed.

  26. Hannah says:

That wasn’t really dancing more like bouncing up and down. He looks like every other (white) guy at a hip hop gig. He’s just having a good time, good for him.
On another note he looks really toned lately.

    • PunkyMomma says:

He does look very buffed these days. I’m enjoying that.

    • Mi says:

It’s probably for Harmony Korine’s new movie.

    • Magpie says:

She brought the hot back! He looks fit and you can see his jawline. He was looking really puffy in those last years with kstew.

    • Me says:

He’s been working out loads and I’m pretty sure twigs encourages the healthy eating thing. I agree we’re definitely beginning to see the fruits of his hard work – biceps! Shirtless scenes in his upcoming films has probably prompted that too.

  27. leah says:

    He is adorable!

  28. Mzizkrizten says:

I love it when anyone feels free enough to just let rhythm move them. I’m not the best dancer but I freakin love to dance and feel so free when I get the chance. Not a care in the world who is watching or what I look like.

  29. PrincessMe says:

OK, I’m going to admit that I giggled a bit. For some reason his dancing reminded me of this:

    http://ak-hdl.buzzfed.com/static/2015-03/18/16/enhanced/webdr11/anigif_enhanced-buzz-30536-1426710014-20_preview.gif

The guy on the right is just mesmerizing.

  30. femputer says:

Coachella confuses me. of course I’ve never been. but how do all these celebrities go to this festival and not get mobbed by fans? is there, like, a special celebrity area for them to go to? or is this a magical festival where the likes of beyonce & rpattz walk amongst the peasants and no one loses their shit over it?

  31. Sleepless says:

Love him, love them together and especially love the “bump and grind” video from late last night. Now if they will just admit that they are already married, everything would be alright. Wedding – the weekend after new year and honeymoon – Maldives.

  32. TOPgirl says:

He looks like such a loser now after him and Kstew ended. I have to say, I liked him better during the twilight days.

    • Hannah says:

Exactly the opposite for me. I wasn’t especially interested in him during his time with Stewart . His relationship with twigs made him cooler and more interesting to me and it’s always nice to see someone look genuinely happy and in love.

    • Me says:

Lol, that’s a pretty obvious comment tbh. I’m guessing you were a ‘Robsten’ fan. He’s looking better than ever IMO.

  33. LilyT says:

As someone who would say that dancing
Is actually one of my strengths, I think he’s adorable 🙂

I think anyone who is out there, clearly enjoying themselves and not caring what people think deserves some major credit.

Love him, love FKA, I am so freakin happy
    For them!
