I’ve heard the conspiracy theories about Kerry Washington’s personal life. I just don’t know if I believe them. Some say that her out-of-nowhere marriage to Nnamdi Asomugha was not for real, as in Kerry and Nnamdi barely knew each other and they got married for some nefarious reason. Some say Kerry was pregnant and just needed to marry anyone and maybe Nnamdi wasn’t even the father. Considering the timeline of her pregnancy, that theory doesn’t seem likely. Her daughter Isabelle was a honeymoon baby, the timing doesn’t make sense any other way. But still, the conspiracies persist, perhaps because Kerry is so guarded with her personal life, perhaps because Kerry and Nnamdi are rarely (if ever) seen together in public. So it’s no surprise that “sources” are saying that there are big problems in Kerry’s marriage.
Cutie Kerry Washington has yet to celebrate her second wedding anniversary, but she’s already facing a marriage “Scandal!” RadarOnline has learned that the 38-year-old beauty and husband, retired NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, are in “couples therapy.”
A close source revealed: “The root of the problem is that Nnamdi feels threatened by Kerry’s success.”
Asomugha, 33, has been out of the spotlight since leaving the NFL, while Washington – who plays a Capitol Hill “fixer” on the hit ABC series Scandal – is one of the hottest names in Hollywood.
“Nnamdi’s bitter because he feels he should be the breadwinner,” added the source.
Now the Django Unchained actress is trying to save the marriage with professional help, and she’s getting reassurance from another Hollywood name, according to sources.
“Kerry’s close friends with Gwyneth Paltrow. She’s urged Kerry and Nnamdi to tackle their issues head on,” a pal said. “She’s hoping couples counseling can help them overcome their problems before things reach the point of no return.”
Eh. Don’t get me wrong, since we know absolutely ZERO about Kerry and Nnamdi’s marriage, of course there’s going to be room for these kinds of rumors. Plus, their coupling just seemed to come of nowhere – what do they have in common? How much time do they really spend together? Is Nnamdi really the kind of guy who would be “bitter” about Kerry’s success? We don’t know because no one knows anything about them. So, yes, I’ll believe that Kerry’s marriage is probably going through some tough times because from what I see, Kerry and Nnamdi barely even spend time together.

First of all, I think this is just speculation. But I do think it would be hard for some people to be a retired sports star. What do you do now? People stop recognizing you and making a big fuss over you. It could be that he’s struggling with that. Anyway, if it’s true, I hope they get help and work it out.
I was just thinking that. You’d be going though major changes in identity and schedule. If imagine most people would be emotional.
Or someone is playing on that narrative because it’s so believable.
I tend to believe it, but that’s because I think most people deal poorly with change as most NFL players are dicks. I like my odds.
I’ve read about it being a really big struggle when athletes retire. It’s so easy to speculate about them because she keeps her personal life truly personal. I hope they’re ok, if there is any trouble.
I didn’t recognize him to begin with… pretty sure this post is the first time i’ve seen a picture of him, and i didn’t really know before this that he was an NFL guy.
Yep, it can be a huge adjustment for professional, or even college atheletes to quit playing. For many of them, this is all they have known and done since they were kids and now they have no back up plan. It’s not uncommon for atheletes to go through depression after they’re done with the game for good.

KARA there was a blind item about exactly that. Supposedly this story was cooked up as a diversion. I think they claimed some bearding was involved as well. I don’t know anything about these people so all I remember was “wait to see the divorce after this story is planted.”
Bearding? The rumors I’ve heard from the get-go, way back from season 1, have been of her and Tony Goldwyn.

I remember the intense rumors about her and her co-star on Scandal! I always wondered if there was something there, because the rumors kept escalating, then she got married so suddenly.
I believe couples therapy can work if both parties are willing to give it a try. The only ironic thing is that Goop is saying give it a try. Isn’t she going through a divorce at the moment?
Yeah, getting marriage advice from Gwyneth Paltrow is starting to get right up there with getting a tattoo of your spouse’s name as a red flag of impending divorce doom.

I don’t believe this at all. There are crazies that want to believe her life is just like Olivia Pope complete with a Tony Goldwyn relationship but I think she’s low drama and things are probably fine in her marraige.
Why exactly did he quit football? I heard he was dropped from his team but why did no other team pick him up? And if he’s no longer wanted in the NFL surely he could find something else to do. It’s been two years since he left the sport.
I may be wrong but I’m getting a very married-in-haste-and-repenting-at-leisure vibe from this couple. I’m wondering if they’re still a couple any more.
@carmen, he officially retired from the game. He played amazing football for about a decade on mostly crappy teams, but was paid handsomely for his efforts. He has made good use of his money and his retirement, his foundation does work both in the inner cities here in the states and in Africa.
And I give any football player double bonus points if they earn a degree while they played college ball. He did- in corporate finance.
I hope the rumors are just that, I like them as a couple.

At 33 he’s past his prime in the NFL. I believe he played cornerback. You really have to have speed and it starts slipping around the time you turn 30. That is why Ronnie Lott moved to safety when he was in his early 30’s. It prolonged his career. Yeah I am a former 49ers fan (not supporting the clown car that is currently in San Jose).
…..but why is GOOP part of the story?
Does she charge for counselling? Are there no other high profile counsellors in Hollywood to counsel all the high profile female stars?
She may annoy and appear insufferable to us, but she might be a great friend to her follow celebrity friends. Sure her marriage failed, but she can certainly advise Kerry if she has been given access to the situation.

I don’t know about this story, but Isabel was not a honeymoon baby. She was already pregnant (maybe a month or so in) with Isabel when she got married.
I believe she was married in June of 2013 and the baby arrived the following April. That sounds like ten months to me. (I suck at math so I counted on my fingers just to make sure.)
Oh I’m very aware of the math and how many months it takes to give birth. But I’m also very aware of how much she controls her public image. (Just because news outlets reported that she gave birth in April 21 doesn’t mean she actually gave birth on April 21) Maybe it’s just me, but the whole thing screamed shotgun wedding to me. I don’t think she had any plans of being pregnant. No judgement, trust me, but I’m not going with the Duggar family model of birth control here. I guess I’m just the cynical one on here.

Didn’t we just have this conversation about Benedict and Sophie Hunter? She’s in her late 30s too….How is this not the same argument? Age doesn’t have anything to do with whether you have an oops baby or not. I know married women who had surprise babies at age 42+.

To recap: fake marriage, wait a respectable period after the baby is born, now rumors of fake therapy, so that when the scheduled divorce occurs no one is surprised? In this day and age, why bother? Also, if she were going to fake marry someone after getting pregnant by TG, shouldn’t she have fake married a white dude? DNA-wise it would have been smarter. Otherwise, she would have to keep the baby hidden. Oh wait…….
