Kris Humphries apologizes for tweeting ‘I’m glad I got out when I did’

wenn20432063

Bruce Jenner’s 20/20 interview justifiably took over social media and news and gossip sites this past weekend. It was one of the most-watched programs of the year (17 million people tuned in), and will likely go down as one of those cultural-milestone moments that people will cite for years to come when we speak of trans-acceptance and tolerance. I’ve been impressed by how the reactions to Bruce – from his family and from random internet people – have been largely positive and accepting. The few prominent people who have said negative things have been slapped down HARD. People like… Kris Humphries.

As you might remember, Kris Humphries was married to Kim Kardashian for a few months back in 2012. I always thought that Kim married Kris just because she was turning 30 and she just wanted to get married to someone, anyone and Kris was the first guy to ask her. It was not a love match and Kris always seemed like a loser (sorry to anyone who thought he would bring down the Kardashians, but he was just a douche who wanted to make Kim “pay” for divorcing him). Anyway, just hours after Bruce Jenner’s interview, Humphries tweeted: “Man, I’m glad I got out when I did. #Gottadoyou.” The reaction must have been immediate and unpleasant, because Kris later tweeted an apology and clarification:

kris tweets

Are you buying it? I am not. I think Kris’s intent was pretty clear in the first tweet. He thought he’d grab a few headlines by tweeting some shade at his ex-wife’s family and he’s such an idiot that he thought people would be on his side. But I’ll give him this: at least he recognized that he was acting like a dumbass and offered support to Bruce.

Wow, someone out douched Kanye West. Impressive. Kim really knows how to pick aholes for husbands.

    • goofpuff says:

Kanye has been surprising great lately with his support of Bruce, very open minded guy for a egomaniac.

    • CB says:

I didn’t see that as a rebuke of Bruce, but a sort of “Winter is Coming” of how the Kardassians are going to milk this. Not that I admit to watching the show but all the guys LOVED Bruce and Bruce was their calm place in the craziness, from Kris to Lamar. People are just waiting to be insulted I think when sometimes there is no insult there. Like Wendy Williams kept saying it wasn’t the Trans thing, but how inappropriate to grab public sympathy after a car accident that killed people. People forget the texting and driving which cost lives because its more important to have the trans issue on national TV but think of the family of the dead, they’re still mourning while Bruce/Belinda is getting a sympathetic spotlight. Things aren’t that black and white.

  2. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

His message was confusing, to say the least. The #Gottadoyou makes me think he might have been supporting Bruce but trashing Kim from the beginning, but who knows. He should have just tweeted clear support or stayed out of it.

    • Bridget says:

I think he can’t resist any chance to try to throw shade at Kim.

      • No blame says:

I don’t blame him. He wasn’t treated well by any of them. Like a little bunny surrounded by a pack of coyotes.

      • Imo says:

Are you serious? Humphries is a major tool. Interviews from people who knew him in high school attest to his spoiled, entitled attitude. I never got his appeal. He’s only somewhat famous because people hate the Kardashians more.

      • Bridget says:

Kris Humphries is one of the most disliked guys in the NBA. Just because he broke up with Kim doesn’t automatically make him a good guy. He’s pretty awful himself. Humphries is a part of one of the most hetero-normative groups in the US (thr NBA) and he could have just voiced his support and set the example. Instead he chose to be petty.

    • Antonym says:

That’s how I read it as well. He’s shading Kim & the family for repressing Bruce & implying that they were repressing him, do that to everyone etc. Hence the “glad I got out” (before they did similar to me) & “gotta do you” supporting Bruce.

He’s still a jerk. Not the appropriate time to shade that family IMO.

      • chaine says:

Yeah, that’s how i saw it, too. Like he was thankful he himself wasn’t stuck in the Kardashian machine of fake reality TV and scripted drama until his old age.

      • jaygee says:

Right, and I think it’s reasonable to assume that Kris J. did try to suppress Bruce for years. However, I’m not sure that Kris H. is capable of that level of deep thought or compassion. I think his initial tweet may well have been him trashing Bruce.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah, it’s the timing of his tweet that bugs me-the fact that he tweeted it during Bruce’s story. Otherwise, I can’t say that I blame the dude for being relieved to not be involved with this mess of a family.

    • Belle Epoch says:

What is #gottadoyou? You gotta be yourself?

Not too bright to ride the coattails of a famous family – and criticize them at the same time. If you’re out, you’re out.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

That’s what I think he meant by gottadoyou. I think he meant Bruce had to be true to himself. Of course, I don’t know that for sure.

  3. LDUB says:

    What a f*ckin idiot. There, that’s all I got.

  4. Zia says:

Omg her face! She was so beautiful.

    • Lilacflowers says:

She could smile then. Can she still smile now?

      • Boston Green Eyes says:

Hey Lilac, did you ever see K-Humph while he was here in Boston? I am always off and on with all the teams around here and I was most certainly off during his tenure here. BTW, did you have any fun at the game yesterday? Can’t wait til next year – hopefully the Cs will get a great/good veteran player or two over the summer.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@BostonGreenEyes, I never saw him out and about while he was here but he was heavily into Shamrock Foundation stuff. As for yesterday, it was fun to watch LeBron throw temper tantrums and that almost comeback was exciting. If they had made their free throws, they would have won but only delayed the inevitable

      • Boston Green Eyes says:

Do you ever go to any of the players’ outside events? Any gossip about K.O.? He seems pretty tame by NBA standards and doesn’t seem to have a GF.

      • Lilacflowers says:

No, I’ve been to team events for season ticket holders but not to any individual events. Met KO at some things. Also run into him on the T, wearing shorts during winter. He’s friendly with no style sense.

      • Boston Green Eyes says:

My boss is a minority owner, so I get loads of tickets. I also know one of the majority owners. Let me know if you want to meet up next season! I go to the courtside club to grab a bite before the games and grab some candy at halftime.

    • Shambles says:

@lilacflowers not with teeth, and not without some serious wonk-eye.

    • snowflake says:

yeah, she looks good there, she’d only had a dozen or so surgeries at that point. lol

      • ava7 says:

You know I thought ppl who claimed she had a lot of surgeries were just rumor mongers…then I saw photos and a video of her talking from a few years back! She looks totally different. Her chin, lower lip, and lower jaw used to be much more prominent, and when she talked you could clearly see that she had a bit of prognathism. It seems she had some serious work done in that area at least. If she had a lot of surgery there, it could have affected the nerves and hence her ability to smile.

    • NewWester says:

It is so sad she hardly smiles anymore

    • epiphany says:

She had already had extensive work done at this point, but could still move her face. Try looking up photos of her from 5 years prior to the Humphries marriage – she was really exotic and beautiful back then.

    • Mrs. Wellen Melon says:

And clothes! And hair! And glow! So gorgeous.

  5. Barrett says:

He’s the mind of a cave man. I will say one thing. Kim’s style looks cuter w him. He at least stayed out of controlling how she dressed! Kanye makeover is not gotta do you. It’s under his control.

  6. Shambles says:

Definitely a dumba$$. But not surprising. He was never the sharpest scalpel in the plastic surgeon’s office.

  7. Kaley says:

I actually believe that he meant “Those damn Kardashians were keeping Bruce down” but keep your mouth shut when you don’t know sh*t about the situation Kris.

Plus, he is totally dumb for not reading that comment and immediately recognizing how it would be taken by most people.

    • InvaderTak says:

Yeah that’s what I think he meant too. He’s not very bright, but he really seemed to try to get along with the Klan.

    • Tifygodess says:

Yeah I agree completely. The message was aimed at the Kardashians for once again trying to make something a three ring circus – not Bruce. The hashtag was in support of Bruce. He knows this family , he witnessed what they did behind closed doors and I am sure that factors in. We can speculate all day long but he actually witnessed the machine in action. i mean look how PMK made it all about her once the show was over and she saw all the good press. gross.

Not to mention why shouldn’t he still be mad for being used and trashed by this family? It was even proven they edited film to make him look bad. They manipulated him just like they manipulate and lie to everyone else. There is no time frame that someone has to follow to be over something.

    • kate says:

I also think he meant it like the Kardashians were keeping Bruce down. But of course because of all the trouble Humphries had with the family, they assumed he meant something worse. He should have double checked to see how it sounded and would be taken

    • Asiyah says:

I agree with you. I took it to mean that he felt those women brought Bruce down.

    • jwoolman says:

I don’t think he was dissing Bruce at all. He must have some sort of confidentiality agreement that keeps him from saying much in detail, plus he’s not very articulate. But the hashtag was quite clearly supportive of Bruce. I would assume the rest was a reference to the way the Ks use everybody for their stupid plotlines, they even faked scenes to make him look bad. The K Krew was a nightmare for him and he can’t even tell the real story. He wasn’t awful, he was just typical Midwestern blunt rather than California fawning. He was in way over his head with the Ks, they were really nasty to him and to his sister.

  8. Anon33 says:

I hate this tool. If you watch the show when he was on you could see that he definitely had homophobia inside him; I’m aure transphobia was not very far behind. I absolutely believe he intended to throwing shade at Bruce.

    • monayandmonet89 says:

i actually believed that something could’ve gotten lost in translation or vagueness when he initially apologized but then i remember how he was really strange, offensive and weird about kim’s bff/chief-suck up being gay and Hump was actually pretty neanderthal about it. thanks for reminding me!

now that i think about it, in context his tweet’s hashtag #gottadoyou could’ve just been referring to himself. for ex: glad i got out when i did..#gottadoyou (as in hump’s gotta do him).

i’m honestly glad he had to bite his tongue and eat his words; so unjustified and unwarranted because as much as he wants to throw shade at kim, I do remember bruce always being pretty nice to Kris because they’re both athletes etc.

    • FingerBinger says:

I remember Kris seemed really concerned about Jonathan Cheban being gay. The show is obviously scripted. I have to wonder was that really him.

      • Hannah says:

There’s a lot more to worry about with Jonathan than him being gay lol everytime he tweets something when someone says something bad about a kartrashian all I can picture is a little chihuahua just yapping away…

      • littlestar says:

Hahaha Hannah – a little Chihuahua yapping away – perfect description for the Kardashians human dingleberry LOL.

      • jwoolman says:

I’m sure Kris H was told to pursue the gay thing with the guy, who coincidentally acted as Kim’s attack dog later. Remember the fakeroonie thing where somebody in a basketball uniform tossed flour at him? That was one of many failed attempts to smear Kris H. after Kim wasn’t getting the expected public sympathy when she filed for divorce. They tried a similar linkage with the equally fakeroonie flouring of Kim, but that angle was dropped when it didn’t seem to catch on. The Ks are fakes and manufacture events and conflicts. Anyway, Kris H acted as though he was just reciting coached lines, we do have plenty of gays here in the Midwest you know…

  9. Insomniac says:

I’m glad the blowback on this one was so swift and loud.

Kirstie Alley sucks too, and I didn’t find her backpedaling any more convincing than I found Humphries’s.

    • tifzlan says:

Has Wendy Williams apologized for her terribly disgusting spiel on Bruce’s transition? I think that was the worse one.

      • jenna says:

Wendy had better apologize today when she sees all the support Bruce is getting. Her saying he shouldn’t have had kids ws terrible. More people care about Bruce than they do about the gossip she talks about every day from Radar on Line

  10. Scarlet Vixen says:

Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve never got as*hole vibes from Humphries. Just “I’m bitter because I was duped & used by an entire family for ratings.” So, I give him the benefit of the doubt here that he didn’t mean it like people took it. He’s always struck me as dim but harmless.

    • snowflake says:

yep, that’s how I see him too.

    • Tig says:

I second your take on his first tweet. Face it, you know the show will milk how Bruce’s transition is effecting THEM with zip sensitivity as to how that will impact anyone but them. And if this Humphries guy is bitter, not hard to see why. Good luck to Bruce with the challenges he will face from here on out.

    • Cara says:

I agree with you. He did not seem to be insulting Bruce, and considering the circumstances- KH certainly has a right to dislike the family. The Kardadians are a bad lot, and Bruce’s sexual identity doesn’t change that. Nor does it change the fact that Bruce has been a pretty abysmal dad. That said, I think this was poor wording on KH’s part- but “you gotta do you” sounds supportive to me.

      • AcidRock says:

This is my sentiment exactly. The whole transition aside, people act like they forget Bruce is just as responsible for this despicable family as the mother. Good for him for finally being able to live as he sees fit, but to pretend this in itself makes him somehow a good person or wipes the slate clean is laughable. And just knowing his history and background with this family, there’s no reason to suspect the show documenting the transition won’t be a total embarrassment, wholly inappropriate and offensive, tasteless, etc. like everything else they do. I don’t understand why people are giving him a pass, or why whenever there’s criticism about any of the kids in this family it’s aimed only at Kris, simply because he’s dealing with this.

      • Amy says:

        @AcidRock

Alllll of this. Bruce’s little interview is going to make everyone forget how he contributed to the mess that is that family and stepped into the manipulation and money without saying a word.

In that sense he is smarter than PMK. He got the money when it was good and then managed to leave the family and create good-will after likely contributing to someone’s death by texting while driving.

    • Annika says:

      Exactly.

    • Lilacflowers says:

He spent a year here playing for the Celtics. The gossip columnists were hoping for all sorts of antics but all they got was him doing charity work. Lots and lots of charity work, opening new playgrounds, donating books, computers, gym equipment to schools in low-income areas, visiting kids in hospitals. I’m inclined to believe that he wasn’t insulting Bruce and just didn’t think how what he wrote would come across to others – which is the biggest problem with social media.

      • monayandmonet89 says:

yeah, i’m a huge nets fan and when he was playing for brooklyn, he was a class act and just kept his head down and worked on his game in the aftermath of kim filing for divorce. he actually had the best stats of his career in triple doubles and double doubles that season as well.

I think he’s a decent person who’s pretty bitter but I remember him having some really caveman mentality thoughts re: homosexuality on the show and I could see him being unintentionally ignorant and offensive without realizing it about trans issues too.

  11. morc says:

Aaaaaw, look at her old face, so pretty.

  12. Ennie says:

I did not see the comment in a negative light. It can be misinterpreted, but his animosity has been vs Kim and her mother.

    • lisa says:

i saw it as sympathy for bruce because this will be sold as part of their dog and pony show, like everything else in their lives

  13. snowflake says:

I don’t think he was an ahole for saying that. It will be a media circus, even worse than before. i wouldn’t want to be in the midst of that. I think that’s what he meant.Kris loved kim, imo. i think she acted all sweet and concealed her real self until after they got married. serves her right, him dragging out the divorce to teach a lesson. she shouldn’t treat people that way. i agree, i think she just married him b/c she was hitting 30. but i think he really loved her

    • Little Darling says:

Snowflake I totally agree. I think he was always ill at ease with the way everything was played out over tv, and being involved in so much Kardashian all of the time. I think he was just saying, man, I’m glad I got out when I did and won’t have to anything to do with this massive personal life invasion because it’s going to be nutty.

He’s a little daft, I don’t think he was trying to burn, just not all tools working in the shed.

  14. Annika says:

    No surprise, he’s a dunderhead.
Kanye has said & done far worse.
    Shrugs.

  15. als says:

Kim looks so different in these pics with him. Her face has expressions and she almost looks natural.

  16. Rhiley says:

He should have stayed out of it, but Bruce did a big public reveal and so I guess people can comment how they wish. I kind of think Bruce is still being managed by PMK. I am sure she probably orchestrated the interview, is executive producer of the upcoming reality show, and will be in charge of the media. She is going to make millions off this.

    • Jayna says:

She didn’t orchestrate that interview. That interview was done with class. He has taken over the trajectory of his life and doing it his way. I bet she can’t deal with that. His docuseries that will be coming out following his emerging as a woman has nothing to do with her. He isn’t letting her produce it. She didn’t get a manager’s fee for it. He is not letting her greedy little fame-ho fingers touch this project as far as creating it. She will probably be on it at some point as all of his family members will. His docuseries even has GLAAD involved. He is doing everything the right way, which means he X’d Kris out of any dealings with his project on coming out, except I guess on the Kardashians where they will talk about it.

Even on watching the interview with his family, he watched it with Kris and some of the kids, and then for the west coast showing he watched it with his first two ex-wives and his older children. That must burn Kris that he is back friendly with his two exes. Linda Thompson wrote a beautiful blog on it, and his first wife, Chrystie, was on GMA this morning talking about watching it with him as a family and the emotion of it and her compassion for him. LOL I love it. Kris must be going out of her mind.

All four of his older children in interviews (I went back and looked up comments they’ve made) have said they have become much closer with their father now that he left Kris, that he is reconnecting with them and also old friends. Kris has lost control of Bruce. Too funny.

  17. Mylene-Montreal says:

Old Face ! Shocking how she was beautiful !!! She mess so much with her face

  18. JRenee says:

    Agree Scarlet vixen…
I think he was played by a group of players.

  19. Lo8 says:

    Who?

  20. RobN says:

I think he actually didn’t realize how it read. I think he meant the entire exhausting media circus that surrounds these people, and it is an exhausting media circus for anybody whose natural personality is not total media whore.

I doubt he’s smart enough to throw in the initial hashtag in an ironic way, so I’m leaning towards a badly formed thought.

  21. Hannah says:

I believe him. He was definitely talking about the fake circus of a family otherwise why would he have said #gottadoyou in the first place? Are we forgetting that he knows what goes on behind closed doors with them more than anyone? They probably didn’t want Bruce “tainting their brand” so now that he’s free, he’s free to be who he wants.

  22. Nicole says:

Got out, got dumped, same diff, right Kris?

  23. Im tellin ya says:

Naw, I don’t think Kris was shading Bruce..I think he was saying exactly what he felt: he is glad to be out of the circus! I don’t blame him for saying that–remember what a naïve bimbo he was? Guy really thot Kim loved him, lol, now he caves in and back tracks. Good luck to ya Kris

  24. Amy says:

I believe him, I also believe his point stands for nearly all the men in that circus.

Look at Bruce, Rob, Lamar and even Kanye. If you get wrapped up in the E-Network Kardashian Web where you believe they love and care about you you will find yourself screwed up. Either depressed and absolutely used and thrown under the bus when it suits them. #GottaDoYou because a lot of folks changed trying to fit into the family and ended up ruined. I’m just waiting for Kanye’s breakdown with Tidal’s downfall.

  25. Penelope says:

Her face has gone gone from beautiful and fresh to tight-as-a-drum frozen grimace in just a few years. What was she thinking with all that unnecessary work? She’s lost her looks.

  26. Sam H x says:

Kris Humphries didn’t do a very good job of articulating it. I interpreted his tweet as it’s better late than never to embrace your true self & live it thus support for Bruce. He is most likely glad he got out before they spun Bruce’s coming out for their show in the hopes to bump up ratings, KH knew Bruce beyond the cameras and how he was like. He wasn’t very fond of the constant media circus surrounding the Kardashians, the Kardashian/E! machine & it was the same with Reggie. I do think he has a degree of respect for Bruce however for the rest not so much (don’t blame him) …Sadly, now Kim looks like the lights are on but nobody’s home! Vacant & blank.

  27. Lola says:

Don’t care and will not judge the douche factor of the man. When I read it, the only thing that I thought of was … this could turn into a media circus … and it could. Doesn’t Jenner have a show about his transition? Hasn’t he been hounded prior to the interview? With all the best wishes of the world, it doesn’t take away from what it could become for Jenner and the Kardashian clan.
PS. Says a lot when I wrote Kardashian wrong and SPELL CHECK corrected me!!!
