Madonna in ‘Rebel Heart’ Moschino at the Met Gala: try-hard or fantastic?

wenn22450037

Madonna has a complicated history at the Met Gala. She used to attend and be the most popular person there. Then something changed, and all of the cool girls kind of rolled their eyes at Madonna. But Madge still comes back. I think she was probably grateful that she didn’t have to avoid Gwyneth Paltrow this year (Goop didn’t come). Madge also tried something new this year: an attempt at dressing somewhat appropriately. She wore this Moschino gown reading “Rebel Heart” (because that doesn’t get old, I guess). Her date was Diplo and Madge made an effort to hang out with the cool kids, like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Kimye. She posted Instagrams the whole night, defying the “no selfies” rule.

More photos… Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli Couture, Spring 2015. I’m sorry, but this is so funny to me. Allison fancies herself some kind of major fashionista and this is what she ended up wearing? Hahahaha.

Livia Firth wore a custom-made Antonio Berardi, made from recycled plastic bottles. Seriously! Livia is always trying to sign people up for wearing eco-friendly or recycled clothing. I think she was the only one doing eco-wear this year though. I think this is on-theme, albeit slightly boring. Still, she’s elegant and so is her lovely husband. I love them.

Alicia Keys in Gaultier, with Gaultier. It doesn’t really feel like it’s on-theme, and yet… I kind of like this. I think Alicia was the only one wearing Gaultier too, so she stood out.

    *sigh* The gloves?
    Bleh.

Alicia Keys looks cool but not very on-theme. Allison Williams WTF.

    • sam says:

Alicia had a baby 3 months ago and she has the potential to fail harder – to be fair she has a very short boxy figure that is very hard to dress. Major kudos to her I loved what she was wearing, the jacket could’ve been tailored better though.

      • LAK says:

Alicia doesn’t have a ‘short boxy’ figure. She’s got a typical spoon shape where her top is noticably smaller than her hips. Big hips and big thighs. Most of the time she dresses in a way that cover up the hips, but on the rare occasions when she does not, you can see it.

      • annaloo. says:

I have Alicia’s body too.. I think it’s bc we both do work where we are sitting so much (I draw, she on her piano)

At least that’s what I tell myself. It is a hard shape to dress for bc it’s so out of proportion.

    • SamusAran says:

Allison’s dress looks like an underskirt thing. Unfinished and like she forgot the piece that goes over that.

Alicia’s outfit is weird, but she looks happy and confident and like she likes what she’s wearing.

    • Shambles says:

The gloves are so bleh. As Jaded pointed out below, they probably serve to hide what facial reconstruction cannot– everybody ages.

  2. LonnieTinks says:

Her makeup artist deserves a nobel prize.

    • Livealot says:

Omg! From the neck up her face and hair look FANTASTIC! And Was not aware how smokin diplo was. Hot couple.

      • Josephine says:

I wonder if she just got some major work done because her face looked ridiculously good – so young. I didn’t even notice the dress because I kept looking at her face, trying to figure it out.

    • bella says:

this is the BEST i’ve seen madonna look in years!
her face is softer…she looks 20 years younger!
      what did she do?
is it the awful plastic surgery settling?
how does someone like madonna get bad plastic surgery, by the way?
      never understood it.
but THIS…the gorgeous expression in her eyes are back…
she’s dressed nicely for a change – except for those awful gloves.
      ah…my madonna love is back…

      • Denise says:

Agreed, her face and hair look amazing and genuinely youthful, somehow. I didn’t think it was possible to fix bad surgery etc in your 50s with such spectacular results. I wonder how long she’ll be able to keep it before it shifts again.

      • lucy says:

I like it! -the total look, even the gloves

Thank you for the bonus photo of the lovely Mr. Firth.

      • Tessy says:

Its nice to see her covered up even though the dress is tacky with her logo splashed across it. Honestly, if I saw her on the street I would not ever recognize her as Madonna. She looks nothing like herself anymore.

    • Sassy says:

Madonna looks like whatever filler she is using is really working. She looks great! It is more than makeup artistry.

  3. Loopy says:

I saw a picture of her and her daughter Lola going to the after party *sigh*, I thought Lola was going the classy route but I guess at 18 she has started the over the top trashy look.

  4. mia girl says:

OK, what young girl did Madonna pull a Hannibal Lecter on?
Because that is someone else’s face she’s wearing.

    • lucy2 says:

LOL, as soon as I saw her I thought “whose face is that?”

    • Size Does Matter says:

That face looks amazing. Is this what happens when one’s work settles? Or is Madonna one of the Faceless Men of the House of Black and White?

    • JenniferJustice says:

I think it’s Lisa Marie Presley’s face 15 years ago. I’m lookin again. Yes. I’m certain it is.

    • Lucinda says:

I think it’s the difference between wearing stuff that someone 30 years younger than you could pull off and wearing clothing that is appropriate for your age. She’s wearing a dress that accentuates the positive instead of pointing out the obvious signs that her body is aging. I don’t think the dress is amazing but she has set the bar so low that she looks stunning compared to her normal outfits. Yes, her face has had work but I really think it’s the dress that’s making the difference.

  5. Greek chic says:

Madonna is a vampire. I think her face looks nice here. Her plastic surgeon did a good job.
The dress is bad though. So desperate to sell her album?

    • Santia says:

Did the album flop yet? She was all over for a minute and then nothing and now, this.

  6. Mellie says:

Ugh, Madonna, I wish she would get over herself. I want to see a better photo of the lady in the yellow dress behind her though, that one looks very interesting. I love Livia Firth, she is so pretty and dainty looking.

  7. Birdie says:

    Madonna’s face looks great!

  8. Shambles says:

When I saw this dress last night, I rolled my eyes so hard it hurt. I want to say I cannot f@cking believe that Madonna wore a dress designed to shill her own album, but the sad part is, I can believe it. And I love that she thinks all rules simply don’t apply to the effervescent Madge, first with texting through a Broadway show and now taking selfies at a formal gala with a “no selfies” rule. Rude and pretentious.
Something nice: her plastic surgeon did a great job on her new face. It looks pretty good.

    • Ellie66 says:

Shambles you just said it all!

    • Jaded says:

Yup…it’s always all about her and if she feels she’s not getting her due attention, she’ll MAKE IT ALL ABOUT HER any way she can. So she’s shilling her poorly selling album as a walking billboard….*sighs*

Oh, and you can hide getting older on your face with the best cosmetic procedures/surgeons in the world but not your hands, hence the gloves. We’re onto you Madge.

    • Zwella Ingrid says:

Can’t stand Madge. Don’t think her face looks that good. Her dress shilling her album is a joke. FAIL

  9. aims says:

    Livia looks fantastic.

  10. Cynthia says:

I really don’t like anybody here except for Livia Firth. Oh are you posting Fan Bingbing later? she was my absolute favourite of the night.

  11. lucy2 says:

I like Livia’s look – have they ever done eco as a theme? It might be interesting to see what the designers could do with different materials and dyes and stuff.

  12. db says:

Madonna’s face looks lovely, very soft. Love her flowing romantic hair.

  13. Imo says:

Second hand embarassment for the dress.

  14. Lucy says:

I like all of these looks except Allison’s. And yes, call me crazy but I actually thought Madge looked really good too. Not really because of the dress (which I didn’t mind, it was alright) but because of…well, her, I guess. I really liked her hair. Her face looked lovely. And overall it seems as if she had a great time. No shade from me here.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

      Many agree with your opinion

    • Tara says:

Yeah I think Madonna looks amazing. Pretty much everything about her look last night… As long as I don’t think to much about the dress being and advertisement. And she does look like herself… Just herself 30 years ago.

  15. Jayna says:

Actually, Katy and Madonna arrived together and posed I read, because their Moschino gowns were similar on purpose with the material and also some writing on the gowns.

It’s the best Madonna’s face has looked in years, and I’m loving the hair on her.

  16. Dr.Funkenstein says:

Doesn’t get much tackier than the walking billboard look.

    • Jayna says:

She’s running that album title into the ground with all of her gazillion hashtags and now this. Less is more, Madge.

  17. LAK says:

    Her face looks better, no?

    • enike says:

Her face looks amazing! Hair too
What is a chinese element in her dress? last year (or maybe before) the theme was punk and she was a punk

I like her, so I am happy she looks good (hopefully celebitchy will show this picture under articles about her, not the overused bad picture from the car again and again:) )

  18. Tracy says:

Madonna needs to find a good hobby or something. But at least she took a minute to brush her extensions. Now, if she’d just dye her roots.

    • mabel says:

Apparently that’s exactly what she does: dye her roots dark, to look more teenagery.
Whatever, my roots are a disgrace for real.
Her face though! Gorgeous. Saw her last night on some online Q&A thing and she could have been Lourdes’ sister. Flawless. Some truly excellent work there; no makeup can hide inevitable under-eye hollows or facial folds, though we can overcome lines. (I wondered who she engaged after Dr Brandt passed away)
Just wish she’d quit the gloves and multpiple rings; I reckon they make her hands quite ugly, whether or not they’re youthful. Surely there are plumping injections (hyaluronic acid?) for the backs of hands for a temporary fix, if that’s her concern? (I’m sure that’s what she has regularly for her bosom.)
Still….looking very lovely, and not ridiculous (apart from accidentally using a spare ad banner as a cloak)

  19. The Original G says:

Minus the gloves and the billboard on her dress, this is the best Madonna has looked for ages. Age appropriate really suits her.

  20. Ali says:

She looks good fully dressed, she should wear clothes all the time. Her dress would have been lovely had she not turned it into an album advertisement. Her new surgeon did a great job on her face. She looks really young for her age.

I really wish she’d get over the desperate late life crisis and return to adulthood.

  21. Nonny says:

Please somebody tell me how Madonna has managed to take 20 years off her face??????

    • april says:

She uses HGH (human growth hormone). A lot of celebs use it. It does make you look 20 or more years younger. I just read an article where Stefanie Powers indicated she uses it and she looks much younger.

  22. Lisa says:

    Madonna actually looks pretty good.

  23. EliCaroline says:

Allison Williams a fashionista, really? She’s just a pretty girl that likes pretty dresses – hardly a fashionista in my opinion.

  24. Denise says:

I wonder if Madonna and Diplo got it on. Duh.

  25. Iheartgossip says:

Poor, middle aged Madonna. She doesn’t realize the people she’s aiming to ‘connect’ with are 30+ years younger than her, and they see her as an old Auntie. Try hard, thirsty and non-relevant any longer. And? Too late to ‘reinvent’ herself again; she’s been down ALL the streets. Ugh.

  26. Stella says:

Does Allison Williams look a little… unwell? Or is it just the bad nude lipstick? Everyone’s commenting on Madonna’s Dorian Gray moment, but I gasped over Allison.

  27. Mapdoe says:

Is that a cape? Did we not learn? It’s a shawl, right?

  28. Betti says:

Madonna looks great but she’s morphing into Pricilla Presley – or is it just me imagining it or maybe its these photo’s and the makeup.

  29. Jenn K says:

Holy $@@”#%* madge looks 35 years old!

  30. april says:

Here’s a great article telling you how celebs use HGH (human growth hormone) and look many years younger. It works on your pituitary gland and that’s the gland that gives you your beauty/handsomeness. http://www.healthreviewers.org/celebrity-secrets-why-hollywood-is-obsessed-with-hghs-anti-aging-properties/
Any celeb that looks unbelievably amazing is using this. Plus we already know that Madonna had previous plastic surgery.

  31. dj says:

Livia and Colin Firth are so elegant and beautiful as a couple. I love Livia’s dress. Did anyone notice all the beautiful embroidery on the top, sides and bottom? It is so elegant and on point. Besides ZZ Herrerra dress, this may be my favorite of the night!!!

  32. Nat says:

Am I the only one who thinks that Madge is showing us what Miley Cyrus will look like in the distant future? Especially in that second photo…

  33. Melain says:

madonna looks so young. she seems to look so different in every pic. is that the hallmark of lots of ‘work’?
