Kim Richards got fired from RHOBH: predictable or surprising?

Revolt VIP Gala
Kim Richards went MIA for about a week after her meltdown at her daughter’s wedding in Mexico about two weeks ago. Reports claimed that Kim was boozing hard, that she missed her scheduled return to rehab and had to be escorted back to LA from Mexico by a security guard hired by her sister, Kyle. Kim eventually checked back into rehab this Monday, a week after she was supposed to. In the interim she is said to have been unreachable by Real Housewives of Beverly Hills execs, who have canned her from the show. We heard this was a possibility, but I’m honestly surprised it’s happened.

“It was decided this morning at a meeting that Kim is not being asked back on the show because of her failure to communicate everything with her bosses,” a well-connected network insider tells Radar.

As Radar previously reported, NBC, which is the parent company to the production company that produces Bravo’s hit show, were undecided about the 50-year-old’s status on RHOBH, due to the fact that she could not seem to maintain sobriety and was considered to be a “liability for the show.”

So when Richards suffered yet another relapse during a week-long alcohol-fueled disappearing act after her daughter Brooke’s Mexican wedding on May 23, the writing was on the wall.

“When Kim went missing in action she refused to answer calls of anyone from the network for the entire time. They had to find out about her entering rehab again from a family member,” the source tells Radar.

“They decided that it was time to let her go because there was a lack of communication, and they are glad to see her go. Finally, they can no longer be held accountable for her misconduct.”

[From Radar Online]

E! has confirmed that Kim is off the show for season six and states that “it’s possible Kim may return for a cameo, or a few appearances, but not as a full-time series regular.”

You have to be SUCH a mess to get fired from a Real Housewives show. They thrive on drama, so one stint in rehab is fine (Kim did her last rehab while on RHOBH, not her first one, in 2011) and a second might have been passable in Kim’s case, but she couldn’t even stick with it for 30 days. Chica has issues.

The hits keep coming for Kim. She was sued for the second time by a victim of her pit bull, Kingsley. Kim’s friend Kay Rozario was awarded an $8,000 judgment for damages last month. (She was seeking a million, so that was a positive outcome for Kim.) Another victim of Kim’s pit bull just filed suit against her for unspecified damaged.

I know she has issues and I guess that’s why she looks way older than 50. Her skin is so bad.

Good for her that she’s fired. Now she can focus on her sobriety (if she wants to).

    • Hudson Girl says:

When I look at her I see loads of sun damage- like she has spent a huge portion of her life tanning.

I’m off to buy a fresh bottle of Spread Spectrum SPF 60 for my face…

      • Sabrine says:

I have used SPF 60 on my face, neck and hands for years and wear a hat if I’m going to be outside for more than 15 minutes. My dermatologist last month told me I have skin at least 10 years younger than my age. As for Kim, along with sun damage, her continual contorted face is probably causing a lot of wrinkles. She looks rough and extremely stressed.

  2. Cannibell says:

Kim Richards: Too real for reality TV. +1 with Greek chic on her getting the help she needs, although I’d be lying if I said I was optimistic about the prospect of her actually doing so.

  3. Chloeee says:

Jesus that crazy eye. The dog thing makes me so angry. Irresponsible pet owners, especially pit owners should be fined. I love pits and poor ownership is only perpetuating bad behavior and poor public opinion. Get your shit together lady

    • writeitoff says:

      Amen Chloeee

    • mimif says:

+1 I don’t follow reality anything, but as a fellow pit lover/owner, I did read about the issues with her dog. Apparently, there had been many warning signs with the dog displaying aggressive behavior, and she completely ignored it with some bs “but he’s my baby waby”. So irresponsible and ruins it for everyone else who appreciates the true nature of the breed/type.

  4. Rhiley says:

Not surprising, but I bet Kyle is kind of freaking because without Kim, Kyle has very little story line herself. Kyle on her own is a very boring person. I don’t watch the RH religiously or anything but I keep up with them on Reality Tea and occasionally at the gym. I hate to admit, but I do like Vanderpump Rules because that cast can bring the drama and it is kind of an exciting train wreck. RH brings the drama and it is kind of a boring train wreck. Anyway, I hope Kim the person, and not the reality tv star, can get some real help and will commit to being sober before it is too late. She looks terrible, but she still looks better than Lindsay Lohan, so that is a plus.

    • anne_000 says:

I’d be glad if Kyle, Lisa R., Lisa V., and Eileen were all off the show too.

Every season, Kyle has never had an interesting enough story line based upon just her own life, imo. For her, Lisa R,, Lisa V., and Elileen, their major stories this whole season has been about Kim. What will they do without somebody to pick on next season, if any of them are hired back?

Even on social media, people have been screen-capturing Lisa R. taunting and picking on Kim, even way after the season ended and it had nothing to do with her and Kim anymore, but Lisa couldn’t control herself, I guess.

Now that they won’t have Kim to pick on anymore, I wonder if Bravo/RHOBH will be forced to hire women who actually have an interesting, personal life as grown, wealthy women with activities that aren’t based upon being like high school mean girls.

  5. MSat says:

If it’s true, I’m glad she will be off the show. It’s been painful to watch her relapse while nobody around her is allowed to even bring it up. She is a total mess and it’s not fun to see her slide further into addiction. Wonder what her drinking buddy, Brandi, has to say about all of this?

    • Miffy says:

+1, it was extremely uncomfortable watching. I’d hoped most of it was staged, I still do, because otherwise it was flat out exploitative.

  6. MeaganL says:

Why is it when a dog bites or attacks, we specify the breed only if it is a Pit Bull. If the dog in question was a Great Dane, GSD, Dobe etc the article is exponentially more likely to list the aggressor as simply her ‘dog’. This is all part of how the media is setting friendly and wonderful Pit Bulls back.

I’m not saying to hide any truth, I just see this so often in dog related stories. I find it saddening.

    • Lily J says:

This is because Pit bulls have a very real history of unproved aggression that is greater than probably any other breed. Now, while I’m sure the breed population is composed of many wonderful, playful, and gentle companions, I seriously recommend you read this article: http://time.com/2891180/kfc-and-the-pit-bull-attack-of-a-little-girl/

      [excerpts]
“Pit bulls make up only 6% of the dog population, but they’re responsible for 68% of dog attacks and 52% of dog-related deaths since 1982, according to research compiled by Merritt Clifton, editor of Animals 24-7, an animal-news organization that focuses on humane work and animal-cruelty prevention.”
“Another report published in the April 2011 issue of Annals of Surgery found that one person is killed by a pit bull every 14 days, two people are injured by a pit bull every day, and young children are especially at risk. The report concludes that ‘these breeds should be regulated in the same way in which other dangerous species, such as leopards, are regulated.’ That report was shared with TIME by PETA, the world’s largest animal-rights organization.”

On another note, it’s extremely reckless and ridiculous that Kim owns a Pit Bull. She can hardly take care of herself, let alone a dog that demands a lot of work and a firm and consistent hand.

      • Thinker says:

Yes, yes, yes to Lily J.

The breed was named because it was relevant to the court cases. When you are awarded $8,000 in damages by a court, it’s not because a Yorkie bit you, even though terriers can be snippy. A dangerous pit is more dangerous than many other breeds because of their massive jaws and strength.

      • Samtha says:

I’d argue that those numbers are skewed for a few reasons. One, many dogs with “blocky” heads are identified as pit bulls when they attack, even though they are not APBT or Staffordshire terriers at all. Second, quite a few counties have laws that identify ANY vicious dog as a pit bull breed. If a golden retriever mix attacks, they’re legally dubbed a pit bull in those areas.

Third, why do you think that date–1982–is there? Because that is around the time the pit bull panic started. There was an increase in use of bully breed dogs for fighting and things like guarding drugs and weapons. The use of pit breeds by criminals also throws off statistics. How many of those incidents were committed by regular pets vs those who were abused and trained to be aggressive?

That Time article also uses outdated and disproved statistics: http://avmajournals.avma.org/doi/abs/10.2460/javma.243.12.1726

Or read this, which includes a few of the facts from it: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arin-greenwood/pit-bulls-time-magazine_b_5521281.html

      • mimif says:

+a million Samtha. The most maligned breed in the history of of domesticated dogs, and it’s 100% irresponsible breed ownership (and media flaming) to blame.

ETA: PETA wants all pits destroyed, has a reprehensible 95% euth rate (including stealing people’s pets and killing them), believes ALL domesticated animals should be free (except pits), so using them as a source is unreliable at best.

  7. margie says:

I am not a pit bull opponent or proponent, but statistics point towards them being a more deadly breed, and one that injures more people than all other breeds combined. I looked these up on dogsbite.org- so I don’t know if that is or is not a reputable place for statistics. But this is what they say:

From Sept. 1982- December 2014, pit bulls attacked 3397 people, resulting in 295 deaths. The next closest breed was rottweilers, attacking 535 people, and killing 85.

That is an enormous difference between the first and second most dangerous breed of dog. So that is likely why pit bulls are called out. Are the statistics are skewed b/c a certain type of person is more likely to own a pit bull and allow them to be dangerous? Maybe. But the point is, a lot of people do own pit bulls who allow them to be dangerous, and that is worrisome. I do think responsible people can do wonderful things with pit bulls, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t the most dangerous breed of dog.

    • ORLY says:

But how many innocent people have humans killed between 1982-2014?
Hyperbole, I know — but still.

    • Beatrice says:

Great comment. I admit am not a pit bull or a rottweiler fan. Yes responsible owners can do wonders with these dogs and some are very sweet pets, but they can be unpredictable and aggressive, especially around children, strangers, and other pets. You may love your pit bull, but the rest of us who are afraid of them shouldn’t be expected to welcome them in our neighborhoods with open arms. At one time my elderly father’s next door neighbor had one of each kept in a fenced yard. It was very sad that my father was afraid to go into his back yard because those dogs could easily jump over the fence into his yard. The neighbor kept assuring him they were very docile. It turned out my dad was right to be afraid. The dogs got out and were running loose in the neighborhood. Because there were lots of small children around, someone called the police. Luckily animal control got the dogs before they hurt someone, but they had to be put down because they were so aggressive, even trying to bite Animal control workers through the bars of the cages. No one wants to see an animal put down, but I can tell you my father was so happy he could feel safe in his backyard again.

      • lolalulu says:

Beatrice, I think its awful that your dad had to feel uncomfortable on his own property. And I think that’s a huge problem because obviously, any dog breed is going to sense that subtle agitation and “walking on egg shells” feeling. I have successfully owned pitbulls (as well as other breeds) and I think that most owners don’t realize the time & dedication required to keep a happy pitbull. I used to take mine on 3 mile walks once or twice daily and she still had so much energy (and this was a 7yr old rescue dog). Plus if not socialized and trained early, it makes everything significantly more difficult (and less predictable). They need a firm, consistent owner along with a routine home environment, which unfortunately is not all dog owners. They can be wonderful dogs, but obviously there are a lot of factors that come into play.

    • Wonderbunny says:

I have nothing against Pit Bulls, but I’d be terrified of one accompanied by Kim Richards. She is so unpredictable in her movements and has this child-like demeanour, that of course the dog is going to take the lead and protect his pack against others. I’d be equally terrified of Kim Richards handling any weapon or driving a car.

God forbid, but I would not be surprised if she would end up accidentally killing someone some day, directly or indirectly.

  8. wow says:

    “Predictable or surprising?”

… hmm, I’d say more like overdue.

  9. Mel M says:

I don’t understand her eyebrow situation and why she always looks confused or worried even when she’s smiling.

    • Miffy says:

I’ve kinda got used to it but yes. The hell, Kim? HD brow those things into an actual eyebrow shape or gtfo. It doesn’t even need to be a facelift, just draw the perplexed anxiety off your face.

  10. Susan says:

Boy this woman has problems. Let’s hope she can survive the relationships with her children, extended family and life itself. She definitely needs to be away from the spotlight.

  11. Cran says:

I don’t watch any reality TV. Never have never will. Nothing I read makes me like or feel sorry for Kim. I think she is a mean and manipulative person. My god she got fired because she is a liability for the show not because anyone has any concerns for her health or well being. From what I have read these people are consistently in environments where alcohol is available and from the pictures I have seen the cast members don’t even attempt to make the effort not to imbibe around Kim. So my take is that there are few people actively involved in her life that genuinely care about her sobriety. I include her recently married daughter. Because I would have definitely had a serious one on one with her prior to the wedding. I would have set in place conditions on her attendance. If she broke ONE she would have been out of there. If she was attending the wedding would have been alcohol free so less pressure and definitely no filming for some darn show.

I don’t believe sobriety will make Kim turn into a better person it will make her a sober person. Look at what happened when her dog attacked her niece who then had to have surgery. Kim’s response to that situation had zero to do with sobriety that was all Kim. She seems to have been lashing out at people for years. I see that she is deeply unhappy and I feel there are reasons for that and those issues are not being addressed.

  12. jugstorecowboy says:

Alcoholism is a horrible disease. I have never watched the show though.

    • bcgirl says:

alcohol is the least of her problems.
She is a drug addict and hides behind the “alcoholic” label. She’s been on something for most of the scenes she’s ever filmed, very obviously, but not booze.

That has also been massively uncomfortable to watch. Viewers have been begging for her to go for years now. She had to personally offend her employers before they’d let her go.

  13. Heather says:

I just feel really sad for Kim. 🙁

    • Wonderbunny says:

Me too. She has some really deep issues that she’s trying to escape. It’s as if she has no grip on real life and she keeps floating and avoiding and occasionally regressing into a child. Facing past demons is horrible and requires strength, so as long as there is an alternative, she will continue on her destructive path.

  14. Tiffany says:

Paris…this is how you will look in the future. Just sayin.

  15. Christin says:

I don’t watch the HW shows, so I know Kim from her child actress days. While I realize some child performers have it rough, they also have a lot of opportunities. If sounds like she ran through a lot of money via her marriages to wealthy men. She doesn’t seem very sympathetic, just based on what little I have read about her behavior. Lots of second chances were tossed away.

    • anne_000 says:

I read the House of Hilton and from I’ve read and heard elsewhere too, I’m thinking that much of her childhood money went to mom who spent it on herself and the illusion of a rich person’s lifestyle, as well as helping support her two sisters.

  16. lila fowler says:

Who in their right mind would hire this person? She was hiding in bathrooms and then hiding in Mexico. She needs psychiatric help.

  17. JenniferJustice says:

I do feel sorry for Kim. She didn’t got to school or college bc she was acting all the time. She has hinted that something traumatic happened to her as a teenager and my guess would be she was sexually assaulted in some way. The women in her family look after themselves by marrying rich men, one after another. She doesn’t have friends and even her family (Kyle) seems to sell her out for ratings. She is broken and seems to have a lot of self-hatred and shame, insecurity and anxiety. I feel bad for anybody who feels like that. Second chances don’t mean anything if you’re still not healthy in your head.

  18. Bread and Circuses says:

Do all the blonde Richards/Hilton women have a touch of that squinty left eye?

Kathy and Kim seem to be able to control it most of the time, and you only occasionally see them with the one eye looking a little closed. Paris seems to not be able to avoid it; she always looks a bit mismatched. (Although all those women are far more beautiful than me; I would stress that out of fairness.)

I don’t think Kyle (also gorgeous) got it at all.

    • Annie says:

I actually have seen the family wonkeye on Kyle occasionally – it’s just not nearly as obvious as Kim’s and Paris’s (maybe those two’s drug usage makes it worse?)

  19. alicegrey12 says:

I knew it was going to happen. Kim can’t stay sober so what else could the higher ups do but to fire her from the show.

  20. Moi says:

Personally, I can’t stand this show or any of the real (really?) housewives’ shows. They all look a little rough around the edges, even with the Botox, surgeries and fillers. No lie, when I saw the pic of Caitlyn Jenner, I thought it was one of them.
