Angelina Jolie, Star Wars geek: ‘I’m personally a Boba Fett fan’

interview gleeson

OMG. This ^^ is Domhnall Gleeson. I thought it was Thom Yorke at first. Which is a good thing because this is the most attractive Domhnall has ever been. Domhnall is very much a rising star these days, having shown a rather spectacular range in films like About Time, Ex Machina, Unbroken, Anna Karenina and more. He covers Interview Magazine because he’s in an assortment of films this year, and he also previewed his role in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Angelina Jolie did his Q&A for Interview (she directed him in Unbroken) and they ended up chatting about Star Wars. As it turns out, La Jolie has a favorite character!

Angelina Jolie knows her Star Wars well. Like very well. So well that she even has a favorite character.

“I’m personally a Boba Fett fan,” the Oscar winner says. Jolie revealed her admiration for the sci-fi bounty hunter when she interviewed her Unbroken star Domhnall Gleeson (he’s in Episode VII) for the new issue of Interview magazine. When Gleeson remarked that Jolie could probably get a part in director J.J. Abrams’ reboot of the iconic franchise if she really wanted one, she asked, “Can Boba Fett have a missus? Well, put in a good word for me, then.”

For the record, Gleeson admitted, “I was more an Indiana Jones kid than a Star Wars kid.”

During the twosome’s chat, Gleeson turned the tables on Jolie and asked her a few questions.

“So were you an actor first then director?” Gleeson inquired.

“Yeah, well pretty much,” Jolie said. “My mom always wanted me to be an actor. And I started going to theater and going on auditions young. I only realized about five years ago that I actually didn’t want to be an actor.”

Jolie also insisted being a movie star was never important to her. “I’m a very private person,” she said. “I don’t go out much. I’m home with kids. I go to work. I don’t really like being the focus of attention, which is why I like being behind the camera more.”

[From E! News]

Is she really a “private person”? I go back and forth on that. At this point, Angelina is only going to tell us what she wants us to know. She’s proven time and time again that she’s perfectly capable of flying under the radar for months at a time. But when she wants to be public, she’s all in. So no, I wouldn’t really say that she’s a “private person.” I’d say she’s secretive when she wants to be.

As for her love for Boba Fett…that’s hot. I would have thought that La Jolie would want to be a Sith.

Happy 40th to Angie, hope she’s doing something fun. This was a cute interview. I always love when colleagues interview each other, rather than just some reporter. It usually produces a more relaxed, natural sounding interview with more interesting questions asked. And Domhnall was great in Ex Machina

  2. MrsBPitt says:

    Happy 40th birthday, Angie!!!!!

  3. meme says:

I was just going to post somewhere that Brad and Angelina needed to adopt or do something big to wipe the Kartrashian-Jenners-Duggars off the internet for a while. Not even a fan, but thank you Angelina!!!!!

  4. MonicaQ says:

My husband is a complete Boba Fett stan. I make fun of him for loving a character that had 11 minutes of screen time and got offed by a mostly blind smuggler before getting blasted into a sand vagina. Seriously, what did he do besides have cool armor? Slightly back talk Vader? Have a cool ship?

Now IG-88, he was a boss. His story is now non-cannon but in Return of the Jedi it’s said that he was hooked up to the Death Star and about to turn it into his own personal roving death machine. (‘Tales of the Bounty Hunters’ by Kevin Anderson)

I also might have out-nerded myself on a celebrity gossip site. Urk.

    • Lindy79 says:

I’m the same about Boba Fett, don’t get it at all.

His death was like Carry on StarWars, why is he so revered by some fans?

      • MonicaQ says:

I’m going to go with the armor. It has to be. Or the fact he’s a “bad guy” but not “Sith”. I think he’s the closest to a “gray” character as Star Wars gets.

    • doofus says:

      “sand vagina”

      DEAD.

(I loved your entire post, fellow Star Wars nerd.)

      • Carmen says:

That “sand vagina” was supposed to be inhabited by a creature called the Sarlacc (IIRC), which chewed and swallowed you up as soon as you fell in or got thrown into the Sarlacc Pit and that was supposed to be just the beginning of your bad luck, as once you were swallowed you would go through an excruciatingly slow and painful digestion that lasted a thousand years before the Sarlacc finally shat out what was left of your remains. Boba Fett was just a soulless bounty hunter, rather like Han Solo himself used to be before he saw the light, so I wasn’t all that sad when he became Sarlacc food in the third movie.

    • mimif says:

Come on. Boba Fett was the best bounty hunter in the galaxy. It is known.

      • doofus says:

        Whaaaaaa?…Jango, mimi, JANGO.

I don’t even know you anymore.

      • Ripley says:

I call my kiddo “Bubba”… Which morphs into Bobba Fett sometimes. And then I think, “I’m affectionately calls my kid after an international bounty hunter.” And then I remember he’s not real…

    • Alexis says:

I love Star Wars but I don’t get the Boba Fett thing either! There were no shortage of morally gray characters in Star Wars (Han, my bae Lando, etc.). I guess I’ve never been one for “bad*ssery.”

    • RocketMerry says:

With you, 100%. Boba Fett is just so… I mean, you get so many interesting, reckless, fun characters in Star Wars, why bother caring for the forgettable, boring chap in a mask (says the hardcore Han Solo fan)?

    • Bronson says:

Thank you! This needed to be said. I have never understood the fascination with Boba Fett aside from – like you said – the fact that he has cool armor.

      • susiecue says:

I think it’s just the air of mystery that surrounds him, knowing nothing much about him while he exudes coolness and a fascinating backstory

        BUT—-Han Solo 4EVA

  5. Rachel says:

I much prefer Domhnall cleaned up and dorky, like his character in About Time. Which I watch every time it comes on. And bawl my eyes out.

    • QQ says:

I Think so too but This is Hot too!! IDK he just a lean limber little awkward Thing going on that I find pretty Irresistible

    • Lindy79 says:

That film gets me every damn time. I LOVE it.

    • tracking says:

Maybe I need to give that film another try, but he is always terrific. I was impressed by his performance in Ex Machina.

  6. Itsnotthatserious says:

    Happy 40th birthday Dame Jolie.
What a life you have lived already. She has crammed so much into this 40 years. I wish her nothing but joy and inner peace.

  7. BengalCat2000 says:

How private can a super famous person really be? At some point they will have to promote things and do interviews. I think she’s as private as she can be for someone in her position. I remember she got so much crap during the Billy Bob years, maybe she learned from that. Perhaps I’m the one drinking the Kool – aide, but the only f@cks I imagine her giving have to do with her family and her charities.

  8. JustCrimmles says:

Is “disco curtains” the very latest in dress design? Because I’m seeing it in this silver one. It merely ‘whelms me. Don’t love, but not mad at it, either.

  9. Maya says:

    Happy birthday Angelina…

What I like the most about Angelina is that she is always brutally honest to who she is. In her teens and early to mid 20s – she was growing up and trying to figure out who she was. Despite what some people say – Angelina’s antics in the past were pretty tamed to what the likes of others like Drew Barrymore, RDJ, Colin Farrell etc did at the same time. And it’s very very tamed compared to celebs these days.

Then she went to Cambodia and grew up, adopted a child and divorced a man who didn’t want what she wanted. Now she has been with Brad for more than a decade, has 6 gorgeous children, award winning career and universally applauded for her humanitarian work.

I think Angelina is private as much as she can be – she knows she is in demand and that her fans wants news about her and her family but otherwise she keeps quiet. In the world of Hollywood – she has managed to be friends with people who respect her privacy and are loyal towards her.

    • Artemis says:

Thank you for this summary, I have never seen this information anywhere else.

      • Maya says:

Man I really bother you – don’t I? Almost every time I write a comment – you always have to attack me. This despite the fact that I never attack anyone in my comments and the fact that I haven’t commented for weeks until a few days ago.

        Ever wonder why?

      • Artemis says:

I rarely comment on here so don’t know what you’re on about to be honest. I read posts though and there’s always a biography.com type of comment from you which just makes me laugh more than anything else. As if anybody doesn’t know about her life?
I do applaud your ability to keep it short while still hitting all the main milestones in her life.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

        @Maya …

No, ‘you’ don’t bother Artemis … Angelina does (and has, for the past 10-years).

        @Artemis …

Today is Angelina Jolie’s birthday (Happy Birthday, Mrs. Brad Pitt!). Of course there are going to be warm, positive posts and commentary about Angie and her life from her fans. What else did you expect?

    • norah says:

well on this occasion happy birthday aj –

  10. Muddeline says:

There has been a drought of La Jolie news… Wonder how they would celebrate her 40th birthday cos its a big one!

  11. jugstorecowboy says:

This isn’t actually interesting to me, but I am on a mission to comment on everything that has nothing to do with a “K” or a “D”.

  12. Brittney B says:

Joining the other commenters in the birthday threadjacking!

Ten years ago today, I had *just* graduated from high school and was obsessed with Angelina (her example — and some of her film roles — were immensely helpful for my own adolescent struggles with femininity and sexuality and self-confidence and self-destructive urges). I devoted a LiveJournal photo post to Angie’s 30th birthday. She was fresh off two Tomb Raiders, Maddox was still a tot (and her only child), the Brad relationship wasn’t confirmed… now all I can think is DAMN, what have I been doing for the past ten years?!?!

She has come such a long way, and I’ve admired every single step of her journey. She doubled down on her humanitarian work, educated herself, expanded her family, turned herself into a powerhouse director and producer… and she refused to let anyone define her along the way. I’m so happy she’s still at the top of her game and I’m still reading about her daily, ten years later… I’ve evolved alongside her, and I think we all have in a way.

  13. Claire says:

I think Angie is a private person but her stardom is massive and wherever she goes, people notice her but unless she’s promoting something, she’s not everywhere all the time ala Diane Kruger or Kate Boswoth (maybe wrong examples but I cannot think of two other actresses who are spotted at all events).

  14. Fa says:

The privacy she’s talking abt is the she doesn’t go to parties, get paps everyday in LA, go to movies premiers of other actors or do interview when she’s not promoting anything, so she clarify that she stay home mom & only show herself when she’s promoting her movie

    • haileys says:

Yeah, and promoting her films are part of her job. Angelina is one of the very, very few stars who doesn’t have PR, so that is about as genuine & real as you can get in Hollywood- she speaks for herself- no paid liars or spin doctors sitting at her shoulder during interviews. No paid liars & spin doctors cleaning up the internet for her. No paid liars & spin doctors press releasing her birthday party guest lists and thirsty, desperate pap parades. And then press releasing them again and again. So, yeah, she’s private compared to the many, many PR addicts, but is kind & polite when out in public, doing her work, etc.- no diva antics/arrests/do you know who I am stuff that NEEDS to be erased by paying millions to PR. Domhnall was amazing in Unbroken and excellent in Ex Machina. I’m betting that he will be one of the best parts of the new Star Wars.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I wish he’d been in the movie more, I really liked his character…….plus I have that hymn he was singing on the raft stuck in my head–“….and I am far from home…..”.

And yep I agree with both of you–for as famous as she and Brad are, they are pretty private. They don’t have instagram, twitter, or facebook i.e. aren’t constantly posting pictures of themselves/letting everyone know where they are *coughIanSomerhaldercough*. They don’t go to film premieres or awards shows unless they are either in/producing/directing the project, or unless they’re nominated (and they get flak for that too). Angelina doesn’t have PR, I THINK Brad does (but I’ve heard conflicting info about that)…so yea.

      • Peggy says:

Brad let his PR Cindy G go years ago, sometimes his Manager will reply to questions.
Since Angie has no Manager, there are no replies to the stories about her whether they’re true or false.

  15. Mireille says:

Happy Birthday to La Jolie!!! Wishing her a happy, fun-filled 40th (and I’m sure Brad will make that happen).

  16. oneshot says:

May she have a great birthday!

(and I know everyone loves her live-action self and so do I, but I would kill for her to make Kung Fu Panda 3…….you can’t give us peacocks causing panda genocide in KFP2 and then show us the survivors, and then…nothing!)

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Oneshot, who wrote: “(and I know everyone loves her live-action self and so do I, but I would kill for her to make Kung Fu Panda 3…….you can’t give us peacocks causing panda genocide in KFP2 and then show us the survivors, and then…nothing!)”

“Kung Fu Panda 3” is in post-production and is scheduled for release on January 29, 2016.

  17. dottie says:

    ha ha. So thirsty cb

  18. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I can’t decide if I think Domhnall Gleeson is hot or not. Me likey beards, and I really like him as an actor. I guess I’ve seen that time traveling movie he did with Rachel McAdams too many times, because I kind of just see him as a loveable dope. I think what kind of weirds me out is how skinny and long he is. I felt bad for him in “Unbroken” because you could count his ribs from 50 feet away, poor guy.

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

I have this internal struggle myself – I love gingers and when he looks good like on that cover or whenever he has longer hair and beard I’m all in and he totally does it for me, but then I see him with a bad haircut like in Ex-Machina and it’s all gone. He was great in that movie but not looks-wise. Apparently, Jolie told him to lose a significant amount of weight for Unbroken and he was very self-conscious about it. I watched an interview with him when he said he couldn’t look at himself in the mirror for months, he was so appalled by his looks and couldn’t believe that his girlfriend or anyone who saw that movie was not disgusted with how he looked. He used to be a bit heavier during his first Harry Potter promotion and it suited him best – there is a sweet and funny interview with him and Bonnie Wright on youtube, which made me attracted to him for the first time years ago.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I do like him, and I will always have a soft spot for Bonnie Wright. I really like that she’s low key and getting into directing and writing….and I think she has her own production company. And she’s only four years older than me! She’s pretty inspiring I think–a lot of women her age would’ve coasted on their looks.

But yes–I’m not a huge fan of the later Harry Potter movies (I love movie 1,3,4,5, and I’m still mad that the best part of book 6–Snape teaching DADA wasn’t in the movie)……so I barely remember him. I’ll have to go watch them all again.

  19. Lola says:

Holy Cr@p! Domhnall Gleeson looks really good on this cover!

  20. Lorenzo says:

    Happy birthday to Angelina!

May she be healthy, lucky and loved forever 🙂

  21. lisa2 says:

Wishing Angelina Jolie Pitt a wonderful Birthday with those she loves and love her.

there are so so many great tweets and she (bday) is trending in many countries all over the world. That is amazing really. She said that she would be in Europe most of June.. I wonder if the family will be spending the summer in France.. How beautiful.
well she didn’t release a statement about her Bday.. so we probably won’t know anything until they start to promote BTS. Which is going to make the fall super wonderful.

  22. Paige says:

It’s still June 4 in Chicago, so Happy 40th birthday Angie!!!!!
