Tim Gunn on Kim Kardashian’s book of selfies: ‘This is disgusting & vile’

wenn21408014

Most book critics and intellectual snobs offered some half-hearted “ironic” praise for Kim Kardashian’s coffee table book of selfies, Selfish. Like, the reviews of it weren’t bad. The consensus was that the book was pretty much the logical conclusion for where we are as a first-world society, for better or for worse. But Tim Gunn disagrees. Tim Gunn still has hope that some people will look at Kim Kardashian and truly believe that she will never be someone to admire, that her life is not aspirational and her need for attention is VILE. Us Weekly gave a copy of Selfish to Tim Gunn to peruse and his reaction was pretty funny:

Tim Gunn has slammed Kim Kardashian’s selfie book, calling it “disgusting and vile.” The “Project Runway” judge mocked Kardashian’s coffee table book, Selfish, while leafing through the pages at Us Weekly. After he read one of the photo’s captions, “I took a selfie at a red light while driving. I think that’s illegal now,” Gunn noted, “Well, she’s illegal.” And of a photo of Kardashian sticking out her tongue, he said, “Can I just say something? To all the young people out there in particular, banish this… This is disgusting and vile. What if this is the only thing that survives in the time capsule?”

The Emmy winner also asked Us staff reporter Travis Cronin about the latest hip lingo used by young people. “What’s fleek?” he asked in reference to one particular caption written by Kardashian. “Like fleet? Fleet Week?”

Gunn then singled out of a picture of the reality TV star wearing a heavy fur coat with the caption, “I just got this Fendi coat and was in New York. I was in a taxi and took this selfie to send to Kanye to see if he liked my new coat. He did!” Gunn’s response? “I feel my IQ plummeting.” The fashion guru then flipped to the back of Kardashian’s selfie book to look at her semi-nude photos, but quickly closed it when he came across an image of her wearing a see-through top and no bra.

[From Us Weekly & Gossip Cop]

The last time I wrote about Tim Gunn, it was 2013 (the horror!) and he told a media outlet that Miley Cyrus “needs a bitch slap.” In his defense, remember that Miley was the very definition of EXTRA back then. And I feel like that’s what Tim Gunn does these days: he’s the lone voice of sanity in the celebrity world, telling us that we don’t have to settle for the Kardashians and Mileys of the world.

Good morning…

More Tim Gunn!!! He is everything.

  2. Moec23 says:

Oh how I wish I could shrink Tim Gunn and carry him in my pocket wherever I go!

    • minx says:

I just LOVE him. My daughter and I would watch him on PR and agree that we all need a Tim Gunn in our lives, someone who cheers you on and believes in you, but can dispense tough love in a kind way. Go Tim!

    • Denisemich says:

You don’t have to shrink him. He is a pretty small man. I saw him one afternoon in the city and was shocked.

  3. aims says:

I absolutely adore Tim. He’s such a class act. He’s also right about everything he said. Love him!

  4. Bridget says:

    Carry on!

  5. Spaniard89 says:

I just found out that this man exists but he already earned my respect haha
Watched the video for this on YouTube and it’s hilarious. His faces are epic lol
He pretty much summed up my opinion on this “lets adore a Kardashian!” nonsense

  6. Willa says:

He’s great! I don’t know what fleek means either.

    • doofus says:

every time I read that stupid word I am reminded of “Mean Girls”…”stop trying to make ‘fleek’ happen!”

  7. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I didn’t realize I could love Tim Gunn more than I already did.

    • Loulou says:

Seriously. He’s a shining light in a dark Kardashian world.

      • belle de jour says:

And a knight in shining armor, come to rescue us all.

I just want to gobble him up. Or follow him around, everywhere. Not in a stalker way; I’d just shrink myself and ride around embedded in his pocket square.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

That’s my reaction every time he opens his mouth. Tim, bless you.

I LOVE his second book, he is such a class act and not afraid to speak his mind. But unfortunately, if this survives in a time capsule, it’s not an inaccurate reflection of celebrity culture today. Incomplete but not incorrect. We get what we deserve.

  8. Myriam says:

I want to bathe in his words. He gives me hope that the Tim Gunns in the world will come together and rule with an iron fist. The WORLD’S IQ depend on it.

  9. BendyWindy says:

Those buttons on his coat are everything!

  10. t fanty fan says:

More Tim Gunn! He us everything the Kardashian’s are not!

  11. Karen says:

More Tim! He’s as snarky as Karl. But more common sense.

  12. OhDear says:

Gunn’s great, but this will only serve to give them the attention that they crave.

  13. BeckyR says:

He is so right! One of these days, some of these empty headed celebrities will see that a private life is a true luxury and something to treasure. This need to constantly self promote must be a psychiatric disorder!

  14. The Original Mia says:

No lies detected. Tim is absolutely correct.

  15. tifzlan says:

Tim Gunn is my life. He should be advising all the royals, heads of state, celebrities, parents – EVERYONE!

  16. Lilacflowers says:

Every woman needs Tim Gunn in her life.

  17. Jayna says:

“I feel my IQ plummeting.” Ha-ha. Love it. I read her book bombed in sales. I hope that’s true.

  18. InvaderTak says:

Thank heavens someone is saying what needs to be said.

    • Nicolette says:

Yes and maybe he deserves an award for being courageous to speak the truth and not be kissing that big oiled up Kardashian ass. Thank you Tim Gunn!

  19. nikzilla says:

    he is right.

  20. Tifygodess says:

Tim was spot on! So how long before jonathan cheban comes out with some juvenile response?

  21. Poppy says:

What kind of idiot would buy a book of some other idiots selfies? Bizarre…. He’s right with everything he says.

    • Hawkeye says:

Exactly, especially considering that you can google Kim Kardashian and see millions of her selfies for free.

  22. Franca says:

Let’s not compare Miley and Kim. Love her or hate her, Miley at least does something.

But, Kim is a superstar because of the people who watch her show. It’s not her fault. She’s almost like a modern day circus bear.

    • swack says:

Not her fault but she contributes to her being in the public eye immensely. She is not a superstar of anything. There are enough people who watch her show to give her the status of superstar.

      • Chrissy says:

Too bad she’s only a legend in her own mind though. She thinks she’s a fashion
        icon and amazing businesswoman. Delusional!

    • Otaku Fairy says:

True. It doesn’t seem like I’ve ever seen Kim K actually do anything (besides photoshoots and a reality TV show, and to me a reality tv show about your life doesn’t really count as a career or doing something) or even stand up for anything. The same can’t be said for Miley. That said, I don’t really have any strong feeling about Kim Kardashian. I’m not a fan and find her shallow and overexposed, but I don’t have a strong active dislike for her either. That’s probably because I’ve only seen a few episodes of her show and haven’t even read 5 interviews that she’s done.

  23. Gucci says:

kim is what is so wrong w this world. i dont want my child to grow up inspired by her life. please people , time to let go of the kardashian before its too late

    • Franca says:

But if your child grows up to be inspired by her life, that’s yout fault, not hers.

  24. Kiddo says:

Kim Kardashian represents everything that is classic style and grace, natural and unaffected by society. She is a promoter of the arts and sacrifices all for the cause with no benefit to herself. Tim Gunn is nothing but a jelly h8tr who despises winners.

  25. Asiyah says:

You put your selfies up for free on IG. Why would you think anybody would pay for this lol #delusionisreal #byefelicia

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

But people actually do pay for this. I read that the signed, more expensive limited editions of this “book” were sold out in a minute. 1 minute! So people were actually waiting for it to appear online and were racing with each other to buy it. Don’t ever estimate human stupidity. Her entire career is based on using it for her own gain.

  26. Skyblue says:

    Yes!!!! More Tim Gunn!

  27. Nutty says:

who’d buy a selfy book of kim? really

  28. Velvet Elvis says:

    Tim Gunn is perfection.

  29. Paris says:

    Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! My hero!

  30. Dr.Funkenstein says:

Tim, you made my day. YOU MADE IT WORK! Now, please give her the eye flutter over the top of your glasses and my world shall be complete.

  31. INeedANap says:

Tim Gunn, voice of reason in an unjust world.

His mantra, “make it work” is how I get through my life.

  32. Lo8 says:

Finally, someone with some sense. Lets clone him.

  33. Christina says:

    Tim Gunn for President!

  34. LouLou says:

I can hear Tim’s voice saying those things and that makes me laugh. Also, in that waist-training photo, you can see jagged lines outlining Kim’s thigh–photoshop.

  35. French Born says:

I chuckled when I read what he said.. This is everything!!!!

If young women even grown women think Kim K is the epitome of inspiration then we are doomed.

I am sure kanye is probably throwing a B Fit somewhere.. Wait for it on the stage performing and ranting about how Tim Gunn is ****

Ha, You’ve been served Kim K…

  36. word says:

Finally a celebrity who isn’t afraid to say how they really feel about the Kardashians. Let’s hope he doesn’t back track. By the way, what were the sales figures for her book? Did it sell well? Who wasted their money on that?

Lastly, I love how Kim is trying to act like she invented the selfie. Please !

  37. kcarp says:

Are these pictures in her book or are were they just pulled from her instagram? If they were pulled from instagram a month ago why is she corset training and prego?

  38. Otaku Fairy says:

She actually published a book of her selfies. What’s the point of doing that when she just posts selfies for free on the internet? She probably thinks she has a few fans who want to keep a collection of her pictures. I agree with him that it’s a silly waste, like most of the things she does, but at the same time, you don’t exactly pick up a book of someone’s selfies and expect it to be some groundbreaking novel or piece of literature, do you? Especially when the person behind it is Kim Kardashian.

  39. Kelly says:

Totally agree with him. However, if people would stop paying so much attention to the Kardashians, they would go away. This website in particular gives a lot of coverage to that family and I wish it would stop.

    • van says:

Agree with him also. Kelly you are spot on! If these Kartrashians fart people on this site will talk about it for days! You all have turned these no talent people into what they are today please for the love of God Ignore them and they will go away!

      • hmmm says:

I had never heard of them until I began frequenting this site. I rarely open a post on them. I had to open this one because…Tim Gunn!

    • NeNe says:

@ Kelly, @ van,…. I couldn’t agree more with the two of you. I try not to comment too much on them, because they’re really not worth my time.

  40. LadyK says:

I have a headache with all of these kardashian people. What ever happened to legit celebrities, why are these bottom feeders more present in everyday life. How do they get away with doing nothing but prepping themselves up for a selfie each day. How? If you check on Instagram everyone is trying to live the “kardashian lifestyle” on a budget

    • swack says:

The legit celebs don’t need to put themselves out there. They are happy being out of the spotlight in their private life.

    • NeNe says:

I agree. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people, I don’t know any, but there are lot of people that like this family. I can’t understand why, and this is why they will never go away, because people continue to watch their FAKE show.

  41. smcollins says:

Tim Gunn is just awesome! His snarkiness is always on-point. And I love that I can still get my TG fix when my son is watching Sophia the First on Disney (he does the voice of Baileywick). 😉

  42. GingerCrunch says:

Shame on you, Kaiser! We need Tim in our lives now more than EVER!!!!

  43. Yes!!!! More Tim Gunn!

  44. jane berk says:

Love you Tim Gunn. Why won’t anyone else tell the truth?
Kim K is a disgraceful pig. A giant fat blow-up doll-full of injectibles.
Please make her go away. She travels the world as if to represent the US as our icon of style. Help!! Why won’t anyone call her out on her low-class trash outfits where she is basically naked?? So disgusting.

  45. Arien says:

Tim Gunn is not wrong. But I don’t have any respect for the guy left to be honest. He let himself turn into a puppet for that scripted, pseudo-designer-talent show that got him famous. Its all about the fabricated drama and doctor Phil moments where contestants cry on uncle Tim’s shoulder because someone was mean or they miss their family (shooting takes what, a month?). If he was as classy as he would like us to think, he would’ve quit the show after Anya won – but I bet he gets paid a pretty penny to stay, so …

    • queenofcauliflower says:

oh, come on. it’s still one of the few shows out there that actually promote real talent and craftsmanship.
sure, i sometimes don’t get their judging but in this case, i also don’t get your judging. arien, i wish you good luck in living up to your own standards as a “class act”.

    • NeNe says:

Totally disagree. Maybe you should watch some reruns of Project Runaway, and you might get a different perspective of him. I absolutely believe he cares for all of the contestants. That’s my opinion anyway. He’s AWESOME!!!!

  46. Bread and Circuses says:

Tim Gunn is my spirit animal.

  47. Dawn says:

I love Tim Gunn too! I watched that clip of him looking at the book and it was a hoot! Everything he didn’t say was there on his face. It was a beautiful site to see someone with class, dignity and fashion sense finally say what the rest of us have been thinking!

    • Emma says:

Dawn, preach it. I’ve been thinking it for the longest time, and it’s good to know that I’m not alone in thinking that all of this is absolute nonsense and mallarky, lol.

  48. Ana says:

Ahh Tim, I already loved you. Now you are forever good in my book.

  49. Lucy says:

Now THIS is a celebrity worthy of my admiration!

  50. DottieDot says:

I have to agree with the man – he is right!

  51. Amy says:

The man is doing God’s work.

  52. LA Juice says:

the wonderful thing about TImGunn is TimGunn is a wonderful thing.

  53. BasicBitch says:

    Tim Gunn for president!!

  54. Jenn K says:

    Hes amazing.

  55. Elizabeth says:

Love and agree with his assessment on both KK and Miley. More Tim! Less KK!

  56. EM says:

More Tim Gunn. Less Kim Kardashian. That entire Jenner-Kardashian family is a disaster.

  57. Lamppost says:

Yesss!!! More Tim Gunn at all times please. Stop giving the Kartradhidns air time. They are hideous role models for our children.

  58. NeNe says:

    TEAM GUNN all the way.

Are there really people out there buying her book? WTF!!!!

  59. Emma says:

Tim Gunn has completely said all my thoughts. I’m a teen, and I can honestly say that I have never liked Kim K, and I never will. She’s pretty much, in my eyes, a walking trainwreck, and probably the biggest attention [use colorful language here] I’ve ever seen. I can’t stand how people can idolize her. Whatever happened to idolizing and admiring someone who actually did something good? Someone who did more than just travel to foreign places and give out toys to kids while wearing your tight rich hoochie clothes? I’ll never understand, but then again, I myself am not understood much either. I kinda live with the old morals, with a twist of new. Tim Gunn kept it classy, yet sassy. Tim Gunn for U.S. President, anyone????
