Channing Tatum did Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show on Tuesday – Channing is currently promoting Magic Mike XXL, which I really want to see, and not even in an ironic way. Anyway, like so many guests before him, Channing really gave away some interesting tidbits and gossip to Stern. The conversation was about a lot more than just Magic Mike! Channing even bad-mouthed one of his bigger hits, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Some highlights:
On G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra: “Look, I’ll be honest. I f–king hate that movie. I hate that movie. I was pushed into doing that movie…[After] Coach Carter, they signed me for a three-picture deal…And as a young [actor], you’re like, ‘Oh my god, that sounds amazing, I’m doing that!’ So time goes by, and you get other jobs…and things happen and you have a dream job that you want to go do, and the studio calls up. And they’re like, ‘Hey, we got a movie for you. We’re gonna send it to you.’ And it’s G.I. Joe.”
Channing wanted to play Snake Eyes, but the studio forced him to play Joe: “The script wasn’t any good. I didn’t want to do something that I thought was 1) bad, and 2) I just didn’t know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe.”
It could have been worse: “I could have been given…I don’t know, Scream 5. I’m super lucky and blessed to have been given that film. That was really not all that bad. [But you have] no option. ‘You’re doing this or we’re gonna sue you.'”
No one wanted him to do 21 Jump Street: “I really just wanted to work with Jonah [Hill], and that’s the God’s honest truth. He called up and actually said, ‘This is a terrible idea.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, so what’s the movie?’ And he was like, ‘No, no, it’s a really terrible idea, but I think you’d be great in it.’ My entire team didn’t want me to do that film. Everyone was just like, ‘We don’t get it, you’re too old for high school!’ And I was like, ‘That’s sorta the point!'”
When Emilia Clarke asked Channing & Jenna for a threesome: “And I’m just looking at my wife for reaction. Like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t know what’s happening. Is this happening? I think this might be happening.’ Jenna’s a pro. She’s just like, ‘Oh yeah, let’s do it!’ And then it never happens.”
Whether he would ever do a threesome for real: “Oh, come on. What guy in their right mind [wouldn’t be into it]? I would put on some loin cloths and some swords or whatever to make it happen. Look, I’ll go find a dragon if you guys really want me to. Like, I’ll figure it out.”
He also has some lovely stuff to say about his commitment to Jenna Dewan and all that – maybe he’s full of it, but I believe in him and I think he just flat-out adores his wife. And yes, I laughed at “Look, I’ll go find a dragon if you guys really want me to.” YESSSS. A threesome involving Emilia, Jenna and Channing (in a loincloth) and some CGI dragons? Why isn’t that a show?
As for Channing diss of GI Joe – I’ve seen that movie and it’s honestly not that bad. I mean, it’s not Die Hard or anything, but it’s better than Fast & Furious: No Plot 4 Eva. But I remember how everyone involved in that movie – including Joseph Gordon Levitt and Sienna Miller – really did the bare minimum for promoting it. And it was still a massive hit. What would people be saying if Sienna had gone off about how much she hated the movie? Yeah.

The only thing that bothers me is the fact that Tato and other male actors get away with badmouthing their previous work and people like Heigl get fucking SLAYED over it.
I get it, people don’t like her for various reasons but it’s the same thing dammit.
Well, she was stupid enough to do it while she was still on the show AND she p*ssed off not only her boss but one of the most powerful women in television. Tatum waited until his position was secured.
You also have to take into account context. When reading about a Heigle hating being part of a successful movie. All you get is a few words in a magazine. Channing was with Howard over an hour and gave a full explanation of why he did the movie and how it all happened. He didn’t act like he was sent to a forced labor camp like ol’ Katherine did. He made it clear the studio put him in that movie whether he liked it or not with the deal he made. And he honored it and di the movie and had an expanded cameo in the sequel. Which is why he only stars now in movie he produces so he has some creative control.
I bet Charming Potato wasn’t a complete d*ck to everyone he worked with while on set though, that’s a move reserved for Heigl.
I’ll be Honest Charming ‘Tato.. I’d have to UNDERSTAND wtf was even happening on screen to begin to properly hate it…I tried watching and I was so bewildered by the utter lack of any type of plotline or follow through or anything comprehensible

I love it when actors are honest about past projects, it may seem ungrateful especially if they earned a lot of money. But if I can say I hated the waitressing gig I had at college,I don’t seen anything wrong..if they burn their bridges that’s the risk they take.
1st GI Joe was bearable…..just barely
I think he’s talking about the second one “rise of the cobra” which was absolute trash.
actually i was wrong on the title….still right about the movies though. lol
1st GI Joe was horrible. Bareable is something it was not. It was just hard to watch and cringe inducing. The 2nd was better. Far better, but not great. And Channing was barely in it. He had no more than 10 minutes of screen time.
He needs to count his blessings and not trash his jobs.

I just don’t care for actors talking smack about their pass work it just comes off as unprofessional and ungrateful, especially when most actors never get a chance to practice their craft. It’s especially annoying when someone like Tatum, who is pretty much just coasting on the fact that he’s considered attractive ( which I don’t get) and is nice, to explain why he has a career in the first place when truly talented individuals aren’t given the opportunities that he has had.

I am also looking forward to this movie because of Adam Rodriguez and he is fine.

In those types of movies maybe with the right attitude they can be better if you just have fun while at work. These types of movies, well people don’t go see them for the script. Maybe someone should tell that to Channing. I also doubt he will ever even get nominated for anything. Don’t know why he is acting like that.
Agree. Maybe when he has a 20+ year career with more hits than misses, getting awards and other accolades and is known for more than taking his shirt off, then he can complain. He is not there yet and should appreciate the work and opportunities. But I just really, really don’ get the “he’s so hot” vibe with him. Just don’t get it.
He’s decent after he works out, but I don’t find the full package attractive.
That was the one movie I actually bought him in. Everything else is just bad acting to me.
I love Channing Tatum! I don’t even think he’s that hot anymore (he was fine in Step Up and She’s the Man though) but he seems nice, funny and is a totally underrated actor.

He sounds honest, but really ungrateful. But it’s hard for him because, well, G.I. Joe sucks and he wouldn’t lie. He’s a very cool guy, though. And oh, I guess I’m the only one who didn’t think Emilia’s joke was funny.
I love Channing, and as someone who also loved the cartoon growing up, that movie was an abomination. I don’t blame him for hating it.
But…I do think if a woman had said something similar about a past film, people would jump all over her. Not necessarily here, but in general.
I think I might have liked GI Joe if I hadn’t loved the animated series when I was a kid. The animated series had so much more action, plot, and character!!!!!! The live version did have some good turns by Gordon-Levitt and the actress who played Scarlett. But everyone else was pretty much a joke in that picture (omg Sienna Miller was freaking horrible), and the film itself was trash.
I thought that film was terrible so I whilst I don’t think it’s a good idea to be giving out about being paid millions to act I do find it funny because that movie stank hee hee hee

I don’t understand why everyone gets mad at actors for saying they don’t like movies they were in. How is that ungrateful? Have none of you ever talked smack on an old terrible job you had? Are we not allowed to talk smack of we made a lot of money? Are actors not allowed to admit they were in bad movies or do they always have to pretend like they are great? He later said it could have been worse and he was thankful for thr opportunity but everyone is ignoring that.
I don’t talk doodoo about former jobs publicly, though. It’s one thing if he said that in a private, it’s another thing to say it in an interview. And I say this as a fan!
You are right about how he said he was thankful for it, though. And to be fair to him, he seems to generally be genuinely grateful for the opportunities that he’s had. And he’s willing to talk doodoo about himself, too (e.g. saying how his acting was horrible in Step Up 2 during the Reddit AMA).

I think its tacky for him to talk down about his previous work….it has the potential to burn bridges. He sure tookthat paycheck though. I don’t care for Tater, but his wife is adorable.
