Disney creating new “We Are the World” starring Miley and Jo. Bros

Disney has decided to create their own version of the oft-mocked 1985 song “We are the World,” which was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie. The original was performed by a “supergroup” of singers and musicians including Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, Daryl Hall, Smokey Robinson, and many others. The Disney version will star Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers and will be called “Pass It On.”

E! News has learned that Miley Cyrus is set to reteam with her ex-flame (and Mouse House coworker) Nick Jonas as part of an all-star recording session for a song called “Pass It On”—a track an inside source calls “Disney’s version of ‘We Are the World.’ It’s about kindness and passing it on.”

Fellow Jonases Joe and Kevin are also among those on board for the track, which is being recorded later this week. The tune was penned by Adam Anders and Nikki Hassman, who wrote Cyrus’ Hannah Montana hit “Hoedown Throwdown.”

Cyrus, the JoBros and other Disney musicmakers will shoot the “Pass It On” video on Saturday.

The article says that the song will feature Miley, the Jonas Bros. and “other Disney musicmakers,” so one can assume the video will also include stars like Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato (who Disney is trying to mold into the next Miley).

The announcement of the song once again brought up the history between Miley and Nick Jonas. Miley denies the rumors that there is any kind of bad blood between them, but come on – it’s drama queen Miley Cyrus we’re talking about. She recently said that Jennifer Aniston is “so classy” because she handled her divorce with Brad so well. Um, Miley? We are still getting soundbytes from Jen about Brad four years after their divorce. Don’t tell me we’ll still be fed the “Nick and I are good friends” line in half a decade.

  2. MARKY MARK says:

Is this song going to be “NOT FOR PROFIT” like the last one was–The Disney Machine is quite greedy & publicity driven so I would be curious to know who the cash and exposure would benefit

that is so weird. that song popped up on my ipod this morning (i like it for it’s nostalgic quality) and i was listening and thinking, who would be asked to take part if they something similar was done today? miley cyrus did NOT cross my mind. neither did the freaking jonas brothers. in fact so many of the new and popular artists of today that crossed my mind seemed so contrived compared to the artists who made that song who were authentic.

Miley Cyrus is proof that anyone can become “famous” with the right connections. Talent be damned.

When she pops up on the red carpet for award shows, I can barely tolerate it. But I must say that I love, love, love her white dress?

Now the Jonas Bro’s? I can hop on board with that. On the other side of Jerelena, of course. 🙂

I agree. I hope all the proceeds go to a good cause. Maybe something children based. 🙂 Like helping fund schools in Africa or heck, provide funding for our inner city schools so that these kids have computers and books.

I love how you write that “We Are the World” was performed by a “supergroup” of singers.
Can anyone else smell the irony?
Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, Daryl Hall, Smokey Robinson… > Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers
    Oh, lawdy.

My daughter entered a contest 2 weeks ago for ACCESS HOLLYWOOD and here is her e-mail:
Hi Miley, What do you think of getting all the famous young stars together to produce a super group and make a song as big as “We Are the World” to raise money for different children’s charities around the world? Don’t you think this would give young people today an opportunity to unite for a cause? Since we are the children, we have the voices. Dont’ you think we should be heard? Sent March 16,2009 8:28pm

They stold her idea I am sure and she never won. Kinda funny 2 weeks later this comes out?

I hope the proceeds go to the people who listen to the song. Hearing tests for those who bought the CD and counselling for people who had to listen to it against their will. A truly worthy cause.

TO Rachael. I’m sorry this happened to your daughter. I hope you encourage your daughter that she’s smart, compassionate, and bright.

This is why I encourage kids and adults to keep their statements general because agents, managers, writers, and stars will steal ideas to remain in the spotlight. Regarding Miley, she’s obnoxious, disingenuous and no role model.

the song “We Are The World” in 1985 was a GREAT song. Now they are doing it with the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus. That is a TERRIBLE idea. They should remake it with other singers.
