Star Magazine is running a nice piece of maybe-fiction that I so want to be true. They claim that Ben Affleck and newly single Jon Hamm are hanging out and cruising for women from the same pool. (Which I would imagine is 20-something and somewhat ambitious yet naive.) We know these two are friends as Hamm was in Affleck’s The Town. What’s more is that Ben was said to be spotted out with an unidentified blonde woman (not the nanny) who accompanied him to The Beverly Hills Hotel. Star has a date for the sighting and everything, which makes it sound plausible. Plus its Ben Affleck, you know he stays close to home.
On Sept 18, a witness caught [Affleck]… rolling into the Beverly Hills Hotel with a new pretty young thing on his arm. “He pulled up in his new muscle car, a Dodge Challendger Hellcat, with a hot blonde in the front seat,” says a tipster. “They were both dressed really well, like they had just come from a fancy dinner. She was in a short, tight, black cocktail dress and he wore a suit but no tie.” The pair were then whisked inside by security and escorted straight up to a suite, where they seemed keen on an early night in. “It was only about 7:30 pm, but they looked ready to be alone,” dishes the witness…
“He and Jon Hamm go out looking for women together,” an LA scenester tells Star… “They hit up Ye Rustic Inn in Los Feliz late at night. Ben lines up his drinks and then they ‘check out the talent.’”

I would be more likely to believe this if someone tweeted about this or we had paparazzi photos. Ben has been so careful to maintain his family guy but separating image that I don’t see him trolling for strange so openly. Still, he’s pretty messy in his personal life and he probably feels invincible on some level. I can be convinced.
Star has a related story claiming that Matt Damon dislikes Jennifer Garner because she’s too much of a control freak. I believe this, especially since Matt recently defended his poor misunderstood bro Ben. Matt probably buys all the bullsh*t Ben feeds him about how he’s never good enough for demanding, exacting Jen. That was the media narrative for a while.
[Garner] has “always been suspicious of everyone Ben hangs out with, even Matt,” says one insider. “If she’d just loosened up a bit, things could have been different,” dishes an insider. Matt wasn’t that fond of Jen, the source adds, and he had nagging concerns about the marriage.
“Matt believes Ben’s marriage was in shambles way before the nanny,” says a source. “There was too much anger there.
“He wasn’t pushing for Ben to end it, but he knows Ben will be happier with another woman,” adds the tipster.
But Matt may not get his wish—word is in Ben and Jen’s camp that “something is definitely going on” ever since the A-lister pair started going to marriage counseling post-divorce announcement on June 30.
Now, speculation is rising Jen could even be expecting again after a night of romance after one of their marriage counseling sessions—she was even spotted recently with what appeared to be a bump—but will a new baby be enough to bring their family back together?
Of course Ben would be happier with another woman – until it got serious and he was stuck in commitment-land again. Jen is not pregnant, although she did get pregnant following their split around Christmas in 2010. That detail was in US Magazine, which used the term “band-aid baby.” So the gossip press may be jumping to conclusions this time, given this couple’s history.
No one has filed for divorce yet and Ben and Jen have been spotted out together and with their kids many times since the split announcement. We’ll have to see what happens but they seem to be trying to make it work – at least in front of the cameras when Ben’s not messing around with his buddies and with other women.

Out of curiosity, I googled Affleck on the 18th. There was a a write-up (the daily report), with photos of Ben/Jen picking up the girls from karate that afternoon. By the shadows, it would have been late afternoon. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t busy with someone else, later, but there ya go.

He maybe randomly hooking up but not this date (Sept.18), Back read some articles: Sept.14-17 he’s in Georgia and Boston scouting locations for his next film. Then right on the 18th he did the school run with the girls and later in their karate class with Jen . On the 20th he was with the family in farmers market and church. Guessed that week was schedule for work and family. Hook up in between is not quite right not on this date.

That “someone” in Florida who was rumored to be Matt’s boyfriend? Yeah, that was his wife’s ex and father of Matt’s stepdaughter who had fallen on hard times and was allowed to live in a guesthouse on their property. The ex has even come out and said what a great guy Matt is.
Now, I don’t know if Matt is really is All That, or whether he has affairs with women or not…
But Lainey and others, especially Ted C, put out a lot of nonsense from “sources” whose own motivations are unknown, yet never followup or retract when they’re wrong.

While I agree that people choose to believe stories depending on whether or not they happen to like the celebrity involved, I do think it’s quite possible for someone to cheat – even repeatedly – without the public finding out about it. Remember Arnold? Or Tiger Woods? And he wasn’t even discreet – far from it.! Affleck might just have been very careful about who he fooled around with. Or maybe, as you say, the stories are exaggerated, or even outright fabricated. We really don’t know.

If Ben didn’t cheat, don’t you think Jen camp would have said something? Like infidelity was not a reason for their split. She doesn’t mind doing happy family photo ops to help fix Bens image, putting on a happy front for the kids/media or like you believe working thing out. So why would she not put a stop to nannygate at the beginning and say Ben never cheated? It’s very telling that Jen camp was silent throughout the whole thing when in the past, she has spoken up about cheating rumors.

Hamm is only a year older? He looks much older. Drinking and stress have aged him. The same goes for Affleck.
Yeah, I was surprised to find that they’re only a year apart – Hamm looks late 40s easily. Even in the early seasons of ‘Mad Men’, he looked way older than his age, but men did look more mature then, so it sort of suited the character. Affleck is a bit portly, but still quite baby faced.
I always liked that Hamm looked like a man and not like a baby faced heartthrob i think that was part of his appeal.

I still think that Ben is quite youthful looking, even now. Yes, he’s put on a lot of weight and become a bit jowly, but a few weeks in the gym would sort that out. Facially, he’s still quite youthful, whereas Hamm has always looked much older than his age.
@Leah, True. Don Draper had a very ‘old style’, very masculine appeal. But somehow, it doesn’t translate into the “real life” Jon Hamm. At least not for me. Could be that he’s just not that photogenic and looks much better in motion, but until I saw ”Mad Men” (I was late to the game) I just couldn’t understand why women were lusting over Jon Hamm, as he looked nothing special to me.

I think at least in the first 3 seasons of Mad Men, he was smokin’ hot. I don’t know what it is – the clothes, the lighting, the general ‘aura’ around the character – but Don Draper is just incredibly sexy.
Jon Hamm, however, is kind of meh. An attractive enough guy, but a bit ”all American”. His much flaunted ‘assets’ aside, he looks more like a vaguely handsome congressman than a hot actor type!
I’ve never understood the appeal of Jon Hamm. I used to be majorly in love with Ben affleck but now he’s just a sad, aging man who can’t commit.

In Ben’s defense, he gets blamed for being a frat boy when, in fact, he never was, nor did he ever bully anyone, and is actually known as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.
On the other hand, Jon really was a bullying frat boy who drunkenly and viciously attacked and permanently scarred a pledge, something for which he has yet to publicly acknowledge or apologize.
You know, I was willing to give Jon the benefit of the doubt, that maybe he was working towards the 12th step before making amends, but if these reports of his opngoing drinking, cruising and carousing are true, he’ll never get there.

I can totally see that Garner is “controlling.” This happens as a matter of course when you are with an addict. The partner wildly over-focuses on the addict, first trying to fix him, then trying to control him. A mess. Jen, two words: Al Anon.

I have to call bullshit on Affleck and Damon.
First of all the word controlling is often used by substance abusers who get challenged by a spouse.
Is Jen genuinely controlling would she be if she had a partner who didn’t have these issues? You cannot interpret this as a normal relationship it’s very stressful to be involved with a substance abuser and especially I should think if you have kids.
And look at his history of blaming his exes for his own failings.
He’s had these two girlfriends and both are wrong personality types that’s is why the relationships work out according to his friends and him.
Add to that, that the girlfriend previous to the last two pretty much said he’s not serious boyfriend material because he’s happiest around strippers and gambling. This points to this type of behaviour being a constant for the last 20 years. It’s not something that happened because Jen was too controlling or jlo ruined his career or whatever the accusations against her was.
You know, it’s interesting that this should all come out, just as I’m catching up on S1 of The Affair…
In a scene where Noah and his wife Helen are at the therapist’s office, he reveals that Helen is too perfect and controlling, he’s never good enough and no room for him to make mistakes. She in turn admits that because she was so rich and privileged when they met in college, and he was definitely not, that she felt assured he would never leave her. So he says the affair happened because Alison the waitress looked up to him for he he was then and didn’t see him as some kind of project for who she wanted him to be – or something like that.
Anyway, I do think that this was the Ben/Jen dynamic or problem, and it’s just how they are, different personalities, ways of communicating, wants and emotional needs.

That is such nonsense. She obviously wasn’t that controlling. He certainly had plenty of time to go out to gamble, drink, and cheat. I think Ben is actually the controlling one, he just likes his laid back image. A laid back person would never have pressured PBS into suppressing the info about his ancestors. Then there was what Mark Ruffalo said about Ben not allowing Jen and Mark to be friends.
Why doesnt he just date these nannies or whatever random women he cheats with if his wives and girlfriends are so wrong for him?
We all know he won’t do that because Bens ambitious, he wants to be in a power couple. He wants to play the Hollywood game to the max. Hence he dates other famous people and cries that he is misunderstood when they object to his cheating ways.

I don’t get it why men who obviously can’t keep it in their pants get married. My cousin never wants to get married or have kids, he likes women. He is very clear he doesn’t want marriage, kids or a live in girlfrien and wants to have fun. Right of the bat he doesn’t pretend to be something he’s not.

When I first read that, I kinda thought it was Jen with the intent to move the kids out of Hollywood. Maybe not, but the pap scrutiny has been so bad and Samuel seems to be very freaked out in many pictures. She’s mentioned them thinking of moving out before because of the stalking. I imagine she knows it’s probably not going to lessen after this either, because Ben is such a high profile target.
Jen love her photo op strolls so no way would she move out of Hollywood or Brentwood and Ben he can get privacy when he wants it same goes for Jen.
If I remember right Jen rented or brought Brooke Shields old house which is in the same neighborhood as the house the maybe selling.
Yeah, I wonder where they’ll each move? And will they stay close by for the kids?
Is selling this house necessary for a divorce settlement? I believe the Savannah manse was Ben’s before he met Jen, but what about their properties in NYC, Montana and The Bahamas? So many real estate questions!
That house is great, a Cliff May compound, but maybe it’s tainted with bad memories on the inside and too much paparazzi/stalkers on the outside.
Still, I thought Jen would’ve stayed in it to give some constancy to the kids, especially since she loves Brentwood/PacPal, her neighborhood, the schools, her church, the farmers’ market…
Maybe it’s all too much now, and the kids, especially Sam as you say, are having a hard time with all the attention. How sad for them.
I would say that Ben’s reputation as a family man is gone baby gone. It appears that the press about him is going to focus on his playboy ways with an occasional side trip to his dad ways. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. Very sad for his kids.
I am sure his kids will not care about the fact that he was not some castrated house husband when they grow up. Their father is Ben Affleck.
They will not have to worry about money – ever. I m sure they will grow up feeling proud of the fact that their father has given them an amazing name and provided them with such a comfortable kickstart for the rest of their lives.

The NYT wrote that article a few weeks ago, “The Ben Affleck Scandal Meter.” Whether the premise is to be believed, it talks about how women 45 and under in this age of social media don’t care as much about the gossip/scandals, and it doesn’t negatively impact their perceptions (or their movie choices) for people like Ben (and George Clooney and other high-profile actors, etc.) For women over 50, they were more likely to let gossip/scandal affect their perception of the celeb. Definitely true for me – in the former category. Ben’s personal issues really aren’t going to affect whether I want to see him in a movie. If he were a murderer or pedophile, different story. Alleged affairs and marital problems – nope.
True for me, as well (52). There are several actors/actresses whose movies I avoid. I can’t see them in their roles separate from their behaviors (and it’s behaviors that I find personally offensive and have victims). I actually had to get up and leave a couple over the years because it was so strong an aversion. Now, I just know not to bother. Womanizers are near top of the list – that is so disrespectful to women generally, and typically directed at young women and it does damage them in the long run. I have daughters and to think some dirty old man would treat them thus is just too nasty. Just IMO

Aga, I don’t think any of their babies were a surprise. Ben said in an interview once they actually talked about having a baby and bam they were pregnant. I believe he was referring to violet. The other 2 are spaced exactly 3 years and 1 month. That isn’t random.

Off the Subject: but … I have a confession that might blow Hammafans minds: Jon Hamm is very petite. I’ve met him before. The hype about how manly he is kind of funny. He comes off as very affable and tips very well, but he’s petite in real life. He stands at 5’8 or 5’10 at the very most. His face is very narrow and skinny. His body is skinny also.
I think my head and face is actually bigger than his and I’m only 5’3. Celebrities lie about not only their relationships … but their images. This is just sad!
