Saw her in her Off-Broadway debut on the second night of performances. What’s really astonishing is that she was basically given the opportunity to name the project she wanted to do. She could have done anything she wanted – and this true ensemble piece about the Liberian Civil War and how women cope with unspeakable violence was what she wanted to do. She is a star, but she isn’t the only focus of this play. It’s a real ensemble piece where every cast member shines. I think that says a lot about what kind of person and performer she is.
