Charlotte Casiraghi, arguably one of the most beautiful young women in Europe, has been partnered up with Gad Elmaleh, a French comedian who is 11 years older than she is (she’s 29, he’s 40). Frankly, I always wondered why she would go for him, but hey, maybe he has a great personality. They have a child together, Raphael, and Gad and Charlotte have been together for years. But over the summer, it seemed like Charlotte and Gad were on the rocks. But he did what he was supposed to do, which was chase after her when she ran away. It worked, they got back together and they spent several months looking especially loved up. But now it’s over. Charlotte suddenly realized that she’s beautiful, rich as hell, not yet 30 and she can date anyone. So she dropped Gad and she’s already got a new boyfriend?
Does Charlotte Casiraghi have a new romance? According to French magazine Voici and other European press, the 29-year-old Monaco royal has moved on with Italian director Lamberto Sanfelice, 40. Reports this week say that Casiraghi has relocated to Paris since her split from comedian Gad Elmaleh. The couple, who are parents to 22-month-old son Raphaël, spent part of the summer trying to patch up their relationship.
Casiraghi, whose mom is Princess Caroline (the daughter of Princess Grace), and Sanfelice are said by Italian paper La Repubblica to have met at recent film festivals. Italy’s Oggi calls him “a young, hip director with a very bright future.” His first film Cloro (Chlorine) (set in the world of synchronized swimming) was presented at Sundance and the Berlin Festival and released in Italy earlier this year.
Voici says Sanfelice arrived in Paris about 10 days ago and has been Charlotte’s constant companion since. The couple were photographed strolling in the Tuileries together and the French magazine cover displays two grainy shots of the duo kissing inside Charlotte’s new Left Bank apartment.
Charlotte and Gad were still together as of August, which is when Gad was Charlotte’s date to all of Pierre Casiraghi’s wedding festivities. So, just two months ago, they were still putting on a show and playing nice. And then somehow she met Lamberto Sanfelice and suddenly they’re loved up all over Paris. Messy! Royal-adjacent and messy.

He is very charming, clever and witty. I can see why she was with him too. I once saw him on Jerry Seinfeld’s show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. He was adorable.
Who are these people and what should make us interested in this? Seriously. The better known “royals” are boring enough.
Gad is actually quite famous, at least in France and Switzerland. He’s a very talented and funny comedian. So I am not surprised (and quite pleased) to see him covered here.
I am thrilled to see Gad covered here too – and while he is very famous in Europe, he is starting to do stand up gigs here in the States in English – I hope his career will take off!
Gad speaks pretty good English and actually did an episode of “Riding in Cars with Comedians” with Seinfeld. Anyone interested in Gad should check it out. 🙂

Yes, the gossip on these royals at least has some scandal attached to it. I don’t mind articles about more “respectable” ones spending too much money and doing too little work, but it’s nice to have some about pregnancies and breakups and affairs as well.
Happymom: i’m still scandalised at her running away to join the circus. Her downward trajectory was pretty spectacular primarily because there was no need for it. A pointless rebellion considering she would never suffer any consequences.

I was thinking the same thing. Beautiful. Her mother, aunt and grandmother all were beauties but had so much tragedy in their lives. Strong genes in that family. Here’s hoping this generation ends the so-called “curse” of the royals in Monaco.
hope you mean the Grimaldi side of the family. often people remark on the Kelly side of the family because that’s the globally famous side, and that’s true for Albert who is the spit of the Kelly side, but the dark beauty of Caroline and Charlotte comes from their Grimaldi side, specificially, Ranier’s mother also called Charlotte.

LAK: I guess I was speaking of Grace’s beauty in particular. My lands in Rear Window she was simply stunning……and left Hollywood in her prime to marry this man on a tiny island. You’re right, Andrew does look like her family. The girls are a blend. But tragedy after tragedy, it’s like getting hit over the head with a Tennessee Williams novel.

QQ, Stephanie and Rob Lowe were dating at one point in the early 80s and I swear that it was *almost* hard to tell who was who. They both have very angular faces.

Her family members have all aged poorly too, could be genetic.
They all smoke too damn much, and whatever illness Caroline had obviously didn’t stop her. The word is it was not alopecia.
Saw a blind item years ago that claimed she had breast cancer. Never believed the alopecia story myself. Glad she got through it okay. But yeah, the women in that family should really lay off the smokes.

I agree. They do not age well at all. A lot of that may have to do with the thinness and the facial structure. They are naturally thin to start (nevermind the drinking, smoking, dieting, etc) and that does not always age well. I hate to say it but she is already getting the hardened look that they all seem to get.
And yes, Albert wasn’t bad looking at all when he was younger but the years of drinking, womanizing and state dinners finally caught up with him.

I am not sure I like the tone of the post here – because she is young, rich and beautiful she needs to ‘trade up” – Gad is not good enough for her somehow? Imagine similar comments in a reverse situation where the woman is deemed not up to snuff. Besides, not that it is relevant, but her new guy seems very much a Gad look-alike, same age, in the movie industry. She is just continuing her family’s history – all the women had multiple baby daddies and moved from one guy to the next, sometimes getting involved with married men or ones who were in long term, solid relationships.
Have only heard of him through their romance but from what I have read he is very talented and well known just not here in America. That points to our ignorance.
I agree about the tone of this post. Charlotte seems to chose interesting partners from what I have seen. Saying she has a type and implying she can (and should) be with a more ‘attractive’ man is condescending and unwarranted. We all have types.
She is young , rich and beautiful … and that sums it up. Yes he is talented… but very homely. As you suggest if the situation was with genders reversed everybody will not only be far from surprised that a young, rich and handsome man traded up his much older dowdy yet talented girlfriend,but will be shocked that he even considered her in the first place.

Why do you care who these women are with? You don’t even know why they are with them maybe they love these ugly guys. They could also have used their beauty to attract a rich but not so pretty guy. We will never know and it’s also not our business who people choose to date.

Just MHO, but I find that most really gorgeous people tend to prefer relationships with people who are less (many times, much less) attractive than they. My thoughts are that it could be the attractive person wants to be taken seriously (Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller) or that the pretty person is just so used to being The Pretty One that it would kind of shake their world if their partner was equally gorgeous.
When you have everything what else is there to do but chase whatever your idea of happiness is? Amour.
Gad is super famous here. At least in Paris, don’t know about the rest of Europe. He’s hugely popular and well known so from a celebrity standpoint it made sense.

Wonder if she’s put her equestrian career on hiatus? Of course, have no idea where her stable/trainer is based; prob can re-locate with no problem! And she is a stunning young woman- and you can easily see the resemblance to Grace Kelly in both her and Caroline. The Italian BF has an Aiden Turner smile- I love seeing such smiles bec one almost smiles back in response- it’s impossible to resist!!

I LOVE GAD. This site does not realize how well known he is in the French speaking world. I’ve been a fan of his forever, long before he hooked up with Charlotte. I’ve seen him perform comedy three times in NYC–twice in French and once in English (which wasn’t that long ago). He is electric when he performs and he recently has been trying to break into English speaking comedy, not because he wants to “make it” in Hollywood but because he wants to try something new.
I’ve actually known they broke up awhile ago. My friend’s firm was hired to do PR for him in the US and he admitted he had broken up with Charlotte and had to go back to Paris to take care of things. I was sworn to secrecy about it but knew it would come out soon. So not surprised about this but surprised

What does Charlotte do for a living?
This “royal” (her family are really gangsters and thieves who are self-styled monarchs, but lack a legitimate claim to the “throne” of Monaco) is very lucky to avoid the slings and arrows writers and readers of Celebitchy launch at the British royal family. Why the contradiction? If you hate bone-idle royals who perform no public duties, own big houses, vacation excessively and court publicity — don’t give this young woman a pass. At least be consistent with your agenda.
Charlene has her swimming charities and makes various royal appearances, quite a few, actually. Al is actually busy with his Olympic duties and business schmoozing. If you follow European royals, he is always out and about at events.
Charlotte does her equestrian eventing…not sure how else she spends her time.
The rest of the bunch are fairly lazy and seem to spend their time sunning, smoking and procreating.
I have no idea of the citizens of Monaco pay for any of it outside of the first two. If they don’t, then who gives a damn what they do? They are just idle rich folks who are fairly well known due to royal relatives.
Charlotte isn’t a royal. She has no title. She’s also 8th in the line of succession, after her baby twin cousins (the male twin is the actual heir), her mom, her older brother, her older brother’s two kids, and her younger brother. In 2005, she was 4th in line, so she keeps moving down. I expect she’ll probably move to 10th in the next 3-5 years when her younger brother and his new wife have children.
I loved charlotte and gad together and was hoping for it to last. She never takes a break between boyfriends…. Alex dellal to gad now this Italian director.. nothing wrong with it but she absolutely never takes a breather!
