Of all the egregious film remakes, I think the Point Break remake might be one of the stupidest. The original Point Break was directed by future Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow and starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze in two of their best career performances (YES I SAID IT). I’ve seen the original about a million times and I still enjoy it. Swayze is amazing. Keanu is solid. It works really well as an action-drama. But still, Hollywood remade it with Aussie actor Luke Bracey in the Keanu Reeves/Johnny Utah role and Edgar Ramirez in the Swayze/Bodhi role. Teresa Palmer took the Lori Petty role.
These are some photos from last night’s LA premiere. The film hits theaters on Christmas day, which… is a weird choice, right? I mean, this isn’t going to be an awards-bait film, and it’s going up against Star Wars, The Hateful Eight, The Revenant and more. Why didn’t they wait to release this in February when it could have actually made some money?
Now, all that being said and with my position clear – that this remake never should have happened – I have to say that I find the two leads to be incredibly sexy. “Very screwable,” to use Barbara Walters’ parlance. I came into this post thinking I would declare Ramirez to be the winner of the Who Would You Rather Battle Royale. But as I’m looking at these photos of Luke… um, I might have to change my choice. As for Teresa, her look here is Prada. I’m side-eyeing the lipstick choice, but honestly, she looks really good here.

+1,000,000. Keanu and Patrick were perfection that can’t be duplicated. I’ll watch my PB blu ray for the millionth and one times rather than go out for this, thank you very much.
Couldn’t agree more. It’s a cult classic that should have been left alone. I still watch it on DVD, when I need a little young Keanu fix. Swayze and Busy were fabulous too. And I loved the fact that they changed Lori Petti’s character to be a cool surfer chick, instead of just the damsel in distress.

Luke Bracey looks a lot older than 26! Even in that Nicholas Sparks movie, he played a high-schooler, which I don’t think he could pull off.

Because I know nothing of these two, I’ll do what is most frowned upon with women on CB: objectify them entirely. I can tell both know exactly how handsome they are. The clean shaven one actually looks cocky. I’ll pass. I don’t need a guy more focused on his few minutes of pleasure and/or performance than the connection he and I would generate. I’m more naturally attracted to the bearded one and my guess is that he may be cut from the same cloth, but I could be wrong! I’d choose him with high hopes that we’d enjoy a few hours of getting to know each other very, very well. 🙂
She’s as bland as oatmeal. Dry as toast. Has as much enthusiasm as a wet towel. So miscast.
I did not find Luke Bracey attractive at all in The Best of Me. But the shorter hair combined with the tux and stubble…. Dear Lord. Also, there’s no way that man is younger than 30. I’ve never seen the original movie and doubt I’ll see the remake so I’m judging based solely on looks in these pics.
This movie should be released on DVD only. Had rather watch Transformers movies back to back with no breaks, with Michael Bay explaining his directors cut, as to watch one minute of this unneeded remake. Keneau and Patrick were much much hotter.

Do you know what? I was prepared to absolutely tear this trailer down as PB is so close and dear to my heart…but after watching it I think it looks like it might bring something new to the concepts in the movie. I’d give it a watch. I would’ve paid money to see Keanu in the role again! I’m sure he’s up to it. Ah Ke Ke *sigh*
