David Beckham to his son Brooklyn, 16, on Instagram: ‘that’s my jumper’

I just had to check myself. I was trying to sort out which of the Beckham children does what officially, so I looked up Brooklyn to see what he does for a living. The kid is 16 – 16! – and I expect him to be moving on his career. Of course, he is. At the ripe age of 16, Brooklyn has signed with a modeling agency, appeared in The Vamps music video, took the stage to present his mother (my imaginary best friend) her Glamour’s Woman of the Year award and plays in charity soccer events with Harry Styles. I was lucky if I was wearing two shoes that matched when I was 16.

As Brooklyn solidifies his place as Next Hot Celebrity Offspring, his father, the Mighty David Beckham, is keeping him in check in the way only a dad can. David went on Graham Norton over the weekend and spoke of the rivalry he has with Brooklyn on social media. Once, Brooklyn was bragging on Instagram about an “old school” Ralph Lauren sweatshirt he was wearing. David simply commented on the post “that’s my jumper.

Another time, Brooklyn was thanking his Instagram followers in a video. The problem is, the Beckhams were headed out the door for Victoria’s birthday. So not only do you hear David calling Brooklyn to get going, when he recognizes Brooklyn is lagging to film a video, he decides to school him:

In a video from earlier this year, Brooklyn is thanking his fans for getting him to one million Instagram followers when his dad pops his head into the frame and one-ups Brooklyn with, “I’ve got 52!”

[From People.com]

Pwnd! David recognizes his kids are, in fact, cooler than him as he says on the video, “I am literally… you know, I’m known as Brooklyn’s dad.” Here’s the thing, I think David loves being known as Brooklyn’s dad; nobody has forgotten him, he isn’t invisible but he seems generally chuffed that his kids receive such reception. Not that he’s going to let them know that, he is, after all, the Sexiest Man Alive.

I didn’t follow David when he was at his height and had only cursory knowledge of how brightly his star shone. Other than those pesky cheating rumors, I had heard generally good things about him. However, when I saw this video, there was no turning back for me. What did me in was his gut instinct to wrap the overwhelmed kid in his arms. That’s cool, Brooklyn’s Dad.

Reached 1 million followers on my mums birthday. Thank u guys so much #ismydadcoolerthanme

Cute. Maybe I’m just naive, but the Beckhams seem like such a nice family. Please don’t tell me I’m wrong. Let me have one. Just one. Please.

  2. Marnie says:

All of the Beckham kids seem well raised. I was watching the Graham Norton Show and was pleasantly suprised that one of them was working in a corner shop rather than getting an allowance. Respect!

  3. Talie says:

They seem well-raised, but like all celeb offspring, it’s doubtful they are being raised with realistic expectations. Such as: they will never reach the heights of their parents.

    • Locke Lamora says:

They seem like good kids, but I think they’re also a bit too exposed.

And of course they won’t reach the potential of their parents. David in his prime was the most famous football player, aka the most famous athlete in the world. There’s very little chance to eclipse that, espcially by being instragram famous.

    • Celebwatch says:

But they will go far with nepotism on their side. The fact that this kid is a model is ridiculous to me. No way would an agent have chosen him off the street. He may be a great kid, which is awesome and a credit to the parents, but he is no model on his own. And really, he shouldn’t want to be anyway with all the things he could pursue.

    • Alex says:

I mean who knows. The kids do charity on their own (I believe Romeo did a charity run on his own) and Victoria mentioned that Brooklyn works at a cafe for extra cash (or did when the interview was being done). So i think they try and raise them the best they can and keep them grounded. So far so good. Brooklyn and David on IG are hilarious to watch. Constant ribbing

  4. Lennox says:

The Beckhams seem like a really close family and David seems to really love being a dad. Adorable.

    • Ellecommelejour says:

      Exactly!
I hope he regrets his affair with that girl back in the days… (Rebecca!?)
Imagine what he would have lost, had Victoria left him!!

  5. C says:

They seem to be a very lovely family.

  6. Carte Blanche says:

    Love them! Keeping it real.

  7. MoxyLady007 says:

Omg. That was hilarious. Made my heart all warm and swishy and happy.

  8. LAK says:

David Beckham during the 90s and early 00s was so hot. Prime time. Sam Taylor Johnson made a video installation of him sleeping which is at the National Portrait Gallery. It captures his beauty at it’s prime. As he’s aged, he is still hot, but not so much. He is still better looking than many 40yr old men, but it’s not a patch on his younger self.

That said, his voice was and remains a deal breaker.

    • Morgan says:

I kind of love the voice! It’s like how Victoria has such a pose-hard bitch face but is actually hilarious and awesome. Their appearances are so perfect and iconic but in motion they are so much more real.

  9. Eleonor says:

I really like the Beckham’s kids. Both of their parents are hard-working persons so I am not surprised if they grow up like working celebrity kids.
I like the fact they are well mannered.
And good God I can’t believe Brooklyn is only few years younger than Kylie Jenner.

  10. ADC says:

As a non-US citizen, the Beckhams have always been bigger than the Royals or even the Jolie-Pitts. I’m pleased their kids seem to be well adjusted people. I hope Victoria bitchfaces away whatever Kartrashian or Hadid that is in her kids age bracket (because you know they’ll dump wh…atever they might be dating in a heartbeat for a chance at the Beckhingham spotlight)

  11. Yepisaidit says:

Well, Brooklyn can brag about having a deeper voice than his Dad. Lol

  12. knower says:

    That video.

    IS ADORABLE!

  13. HEAVE HO says:

I’m a soccer fan and saw him play in some games with the LA Galaxy. If you’re not familiar with soccer, the players always walk out onto the field before the match hand in hand with youngsters, small kids who also play soccer. I always noticed that he was having a conversation with whatever child was escorting him onto the field. Don’t know him but he seems like such a great person, so obviously kind and good natured.

    • Bassza says:

I met him a few times when I was working for an Amazon rainforest NGO and Beckham was filming a documentary out there. He really is lovely. Not the brightest bulb but genuinely kind, talks so highly of his children and is clearly one of the most spectacular athletes this world will ever see.

    • xpreson says:

Also, my sister was a very good friend of one of the sport doctors for Real Madrid ( his team before LA Galaxy ) and he said that David was always first to arrive, last to leave… lovely to everyone, including the cleaners and fantastic to his fans.

So nice to see a loving relationship and they seem like such a close family, adorable!!
