Olivia Palermo in Delpozo at the Globes: cocktail couture or red carpet?

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards

Well, I suppose a few people have to make the “worst dressed” lists, right? 29-year-old socialite Olivia Palermo walked the red carpet for last night’s Golden Globes Awards in a color-blocked Delpozo cocktail dress, teamed with a David Webb gold leaf choker necklace and two-tone ankle strap pumps. Oh girl, no. First of all, this dress doesn’t give me red carpet at all. Sunday brunch at the country club, definitely, but I’m missing the glam factor here. And I’m really not on board with the pockets. Sure, you don’t have to worry about keeping tabs on your purse, but the extra fabric isn’t flattering on anyone. I like her hair and makeup though.

Even though she is the actress who should have taken home a Golden Globe for American Horror Story (sorry Lady Gaga) Angela Bassett is a red carpet winner. The ageless actress (well, she is actually 57) looks stunning (as always) in an orange gown by Safiyaa. Her hair and makeup are perfect. She looks positively radiant. A silver clutch and matching strappy sandals complete the look.

Jennifer Jason Leigh, looking much more glamorous than the character she played in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight (for which she was nominated), slayed on the red carpet in a gown by Roland Mouret. The light blue capped sleeve gown, complete with sparkly belt, belongs in my closet…I mean, looks great on the 53-year-old actress. With her hair down with a light curl and great makeup application, this look begs the question, “Has it really been 33 years since Fast Times at Ridgemont High?”

When you’re a queen, looking regal is a must, and Queen Latifah definitely pulled it off. The 45-year-old actress, nominated for Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie for her role in Bessie also may have lost to Lady Gaga, but was surely a winner in the fashion department. She was in a stunning baby blue gown by Badgley Mischka, featuring a bejeweled top. Best of all, this dress is a showstopper coming and going – check out that train! #trainenvy

Whoa. Does Olivia have wonky Botox eye? She’s not even 30!

  2. Wentworth Miller says:

Love Olivia’s dress. I don’t like the makeup. It looks too heavy

    • Rachel says:

I love it, too. If it as fitted better through the waist and floor length, it would have been killer.

    • Lilalis says:

The dress makes her look as if she had super saggy boobs. If the upper part was fitted better, I’d really like it.

    • Kitten says:

I LOVE her shoes and I think the dress is really cool actually but I agree about the makeup and hair.

      • Susan says:

I agree. She’s not nominated and I’ve been told wearing less sequins and drama is expected of those not potentially getting an award. Cute and young!

    • Carol says:

I loved Olivia’s entire look. But although it is somewhat glam, I think its more befitting for a day event as opposed to a red carpet event. The rest of the ladies looked lovely as well.

  3. LOT says:

    Angela’s boobs look in pain.
    She looks fabulous, though.

    • Rachel says:

I never would have guessed that was Angela Bassett. I’m not sure what’s going on there, but I thought Corey had made a mistake…

      • Locke Lamora says:

She is one of the most beautiful actresses around, but her makeup here is awful.

      • MB says:

When I looked through the photos yesterday I actually thought that it was Mel B. I was really shocked to learn it was Angela Bassett!

    • Lucy2 says:

Yeah, she looks good, but I have to think that dress is uncomfortable.

  4. CornyBlue says:

Why was Olivia Palermo there?. Everyone looks great in my humble opinion.

    • Elleno says:

My first thought exactly. She was on a reality show once, years ago? Is there another connection i’m not thinking of? Or is she there purely for decorative purposes? I actually love that dress, but agree it walks a fine line for evening formal.

    • Tania says:

      Exactly. Why was OP there???

    • MB says:

Yep, this was my first question too. Not sure at all why she was there, but I actually love this outfit and think that it was super appropriate given that she is not a TV or movie star so shouldnt be dressing like she is.

  5. Mia V. says:

Queen Latifah would beat Gaga in Lipsync Battle.

  6. Mrs. Darcy says:

I love love love Jennifer Jason Leigh but think the color washes her out big time, even though her hair and face are immaculate. Angela Basset looks stunning but I would not have recognized her, weird. Queen Latifah looks gorgeous, the cut and color are so flattering and she is owning that train. I don’t get the point of Olivia Palermo being there, and oddly the whole point of her is to look fabulous which she has not managed for once.

    • Locke Lamora says:

Queen Latifah would look perfect without the train.
I love JJL’s dress, but I agree, a darker colour would have been better.

  7. Regina Phelange says:

OMG you guys, why did you play Angela like that?! Lol there had to be a better picture of her!

    • amilu says:

I don’t even recognize Angela Bassett! I looked at it for a minute straight, and I’m still not seeing the Angela Bassett I know in that photo!

  8. MonicaQ says:

I would wear the bajeebus out of Queen Latifah’s dress and I rarely say that about any of these dresses.

    • Kitten says:

She looks AMAZING. That dress–the cut and color–are perfect on her.

She really is a beautiful woman.

      • Mimz says:

Stunning. She knows how to dress her body and she always looks AMAZING. Always a joy to see her on RC events.

    • I Choose Me says:

Yes! The fit, the colour, the silhouette. Amazing. All hail the QUEEN.

    • Lucy2 says:

I like it too. She’s one of my favorite celebrities and always looks elegant on ghe RC. I kind of love the dramatic train.

  9. Pants says:

I love Queen Latifah, always have, always will!!

  10. AlmondJoy says:

    Angela Bassett is EVERYTHING ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

    • QQ says:

EVERY. SINGLE. Solitary.Thing and so Is Queen Latifah!! Stunning looks

Also What Is Happening to JJL’s Face???

      • AlmondJoy says:

Yes girl I’m half her age and she puts me to SHAME *bows down* And QL is gorgeous as well.

JJL’s face looks to be in pain ๐Ÿค” She’s grimacing instead of smiling lol

  11. I Choose Me says:

Can’t convince me that’s Jennifer Jason Leigh. If so, wth did she do to her face?

  12. Twinkle says:

Why was Olivia there? Can someone answer me?

  13. Voodoo says:

    Welcome back Corey! ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Crumbedtofu says:

She annoys me. Her blog is ridic. What does she do again? Why was she there?

  15. Jh says:

Not sure why their ages keep getting mentioned by way of introduction? Does that determine whether what they are wearing is nice? It doesn’t read well or seem relevant to my just IMO.
