In Amber Heard’s mind, she was going to be the next Angelina Jolie or Cate Blanchett. She was going to do big things, and her career was really going places. Marrying Johnny Depp was a stepping stone to awards, bigger roles, more prestigious films. It didn’t work out. Yes, she has a small role in The Danish Girl, but she didn’t get much attention from the critics. She was also in Magic Mike XXL in 2015, a film which she was utterly forgettable and/or easily the worst part. That’s the film that made me realize that Amber is an on-screen charisma vacuum, by the way. Say what you will about Channing Tatum, but he can manufacture chemistry with anything and anyone, and even he couldn’t do much of anything with Amber’s wooden performance.
Anyway, her career really isn’t unfolding the way she expected. But maybe she can figure something out… it might not be prestigious, but it could be another stepping stone to bigger things and more buzz. The Hollywood Reporter says she’s in talks to star opposite Jason Momoa in Warner Bros’ Aquaman film. Amber Heard in a comic-book movie?
Amber Heard is in negotiations to join Warner Bros.’s DC Universe. If a deal makes, Heard will star opposite Jason Momoa as the female lead in Aquaman, several sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. She will make her appearance first in Justice League, the movie that introduces various characters and story threads to fully launch the cinematic universe based on the DC Entertainment characters. Warners had no comment.
Heard will play Mera, the love interest of Aquaman and eventual queen of Atlantis. First appearing in 1963, the character’s powers include the ability to control and even solidify water.
James Wan is attached to direct Aquaman, which is being undergoing a dual track development, meaning that there are two separate scripts that are being worked on concurrently.
Justice League is due to begin shooting April 2016, swimming towards a Nov. 17, 2017 release date. Aquaman is due to hit shore eight months later, July 27, 2018.

Perhaps if they put a crazy wig on her and give her some great costumes and tell her to be an Ice Queen, maybe it will work out? I don’t know. Jason Momoa is a lot like Channing Tatum – he can have chemistry with anyone or anything. But the Charisma Vacuum might be too strong with this one.

What a coincidence that we hear this news today, on the day of the Oscar nominations!
I am sure Amber threw a big tantrum when she heard that she wouldn’t be attending the Oscars on the arm of an Oscar nominee (Depp for his role in Black Mass), OR as one of the cast members of a film nominated for best picture (The Danish Girl). She had to retaliate immediately by spreading the news that she might be in a possible blockbuster.
A girl’s gotta do what she’s gotta do to stay in the picture! That being said, I think movies like Aquaman – comic-book movies – might be a much more natural home for her than films in which she is required to show emotional depth.
Actually, I got emails from The Wrap and Deadline Hollywood yesterday (Wednesday) about this breaking news.

I’m probably in the minority here, but I’ve always liked Amber. And Mera is one of my favorite comic book characters and I think she would be a good fit.
I love Jason, i want to see him succeed in a big lead. I don’t think casting Amber is a good idea. He needs a stronger or more charismatic actress.
If the producers of Aquaman want the movie to bomb right out of the gate, sure. Put Amber the charisma vacuum in it.
She’s a perfect fit, she’ll have a sexy costume, ragey dialogue and loads of CGI to make up for all that’s missing.

DC aint Marvel. And I dont believe that their Wonder Woman and Aquaman will become successful. People are already tired of all those superheroes movies. Too much of them. And everyone already hates Batman vs Superman. By the time Aquaman will come out – people will be tired of comic books movies. No matter who they cast – I think that movie will underperform huge time.
But if Johnny Deppe can buy for his wife this role then for her it will be big I guess. She will treat it like its her own Lara Croft or Mystique.
