Kate Hudson covers Prince for mom Goldie’s benefit: she can sing, right?

The stars turned out in Beverly Hills on Friday night for Goldie Hawn’s annual Love In For Kids benefit. The event raises funds for Goldie’s Mind Up program, which incorporates the Buddhist technique Mindfulness Training to aid teachers and schools in improving kids’ concentration and behavior in class while reducing stress. Among the famous names spotted at the event were Demi Moore, Chelsea Handler, Tara Reid, Nicole Richie and music producer David Foster.

Of course, the whole Hawn/Hudson/Russell clan were in attendance, including Goldie’s longtime love, Kurt Russell, and her sons Oliver Hudson, whom I miss on Nashville, and Wyatt Russell, who was awesome in the recent 80s-themed comedy Everybody Wants Some. Also in attendance were Kate’s sons, Ryder Robinson and Bingham Bellamy, as well as Oliver’s children, Bodhi, Rio, and Wilder Hudson. Not a conventional name in the group. Ah, Hollywood.

During the event, Kate took the stage and delivered a lovely rendition of the Prince-composed, Sinead O’Connor hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U.”I was a little surprised when I first heard the quick clip Kate posted on Instagram, girl has some pipes on her. I had given up on Glee before she showed up there, so I may have been more surprised than some of you out there. Judging by the icy critical reception for her latest flick, Mother’s Day, maybe Kate should consider a career in music.

As for the family’s Mother’s Day plans, Goldie told People Magazine, “We’re going to Kate’s. Everybody’s kids will make things, and all the guys will be there, and then we’ll all get in bed and eat.” That sounds like a great Mother’s Day, and I’m jealous. My dog didn’t even get me a card. Ingrate.

I love my family, but if I had to be adopted by another one, I’d love for Kurt and Goldie to add me to the family. I love that Kate and her mom are so close. The fact that Kurt and Goldie have had such a successful union without walking down the aisle and to this day look like they are still in love with each other screams #relationshipgoals. I also wouldn’t mind dipping my toes into that gene pool. Kate looks radiant at 37 and Goldie, at 70, still looks amazing. And on a side note, I hope all of the moms in our little Celebitchy family had a most wonderful Mother’s Day!

She missed her calling. She sings better than she acts.. I wonder why she never pursued it.

    • anon says:

Meh, didn’t think she was that good. More like a decent karaoke singer. Something nice, she was good in that movie with Matthew McYouknowmay, 10 ways to lose something something?

      • Yep! Didn’t think her rendition was anything special either.

      • The Swedish Isabelle says:

She has a good voice, there’s just nothing unique or special about it.

      • lisa says:

yeah it isn’t embarrassing but i wouldn’t call it good either

maybe the expectations were so low that it sounds better than it is

      • lisa says:

although i do agree that it is better than her acting

      • perplexed says:

I don’t think her rendition was excellent on a unique level since she was covering Prince of all people and his renditions were always different, but she probably could have been on American Idol. She sounded kind of country, like Carrie Underwood. She did sound better than Gwyneth, I think.

      • Starkiller says:

To be fair, saying that she sings better than she acts isn’t really saying much.

      • Fran says:

Wow, people, harsh much? I think she can actually sing!

    • Grant says:

She has a great voice. She was one of the best parts of that movie-musical Nine–which isn’t saying much, granted.

  2. Alix says:

    Nicole Richie’s looking good…

  3. Mimz says:

I saw her on glee, and though it was good, it was not as amazing as this performance!
I’m just quickly going to say this: I’m looking forward to watching Mother’s day
*quickly ducks and hides under the table*

    – I liked the trailers I’ve seen so far. And I like a light-hearted comedy.

  4. Sam says:

Why is she an actress when she can sing the competition out of the water? She’d do so much better as a singer than an actress.

  5. Luxe says:

Oliver Hudson was so funny on Scream Queens, and definitely a good villain on Nashville.

  6. Kristen820 says:

Ummmm…damn, Girl! You got a voice on you!

  7. StormsMama says:

    Love Wyatt Russell

  8. Maya says:

Icy critical reception is an understatement – Mother’s Day movie has been brutally ripped apart by both the critics and public.

Kate, Jennifer and Julia are all critised ruthlessly for the crap acting, storyline and for not having people of colour acting in a movie based on Atlanta.

Many have already said this is the worst movie of 2016 and that Kate & Jen should be awarded the Razzies.

Kate can sing and dance but cannot act to save her life. She should do musicals or tv shows where there are music involved.

  9. kibbles says:

I didn’t know Kate Hudson could sing that well. I just checked out clips of her guest appearances on Glee. She does have a good voice and should be proud that she does have some natural talent. Her acting career has been in the tank for so long. She’s a better singer but I never understood why she chose so many horrible rom-coms after being nominated for an Oscar. Her career could have ended up differently if she had been smarter with the movie roles she picked. Maybe she should have auditioned for Chicago or other musicals that would showcase her voice.

  10. Talie says:

Damn…she is pretty good! Although my favorite part of Nine was her song and dance number — she has great energy. The energy of a pop star more than an actress.

  11. KittenFarts says:

    Isn’t her dad a singer?

    • Imqrious2 says:

Yes, he was one of The Hudson Brothers, who had modest success in the 70s.

  12. prissa says:

She sounded good. I agree with everyone else – she sings better than she acts. What was up with all the finger pointing tho??? LOL

Wow! Demi looks great! Whoever does work on her face is a master!

  13. Hannah says:

I love nosing through her and Oliver’s instagram photos – they are such a close knit family between Russell’s son, their kid and the Hudsons. Love it!

    • Annaloo. says:

If you like their Instagram, you will LOVE Kate’s snapchat. I am loving it BC she posts so much!

  14. Gg says:

Is it me or is she looking stocky? Maybe she is pregnant with Nick Jonas’ baby?! 🙂

  15. velourazure says:

I have to deduct points from the quality of her voice because she uses those Christina Aguilera pointy finger gestures.

    • Veeve says:

      @Velourazure
That just cracked me up , I wasn’t going to comment however 10 minutes later I am still giggling. Well done 😄

  16. sauvage says:

Could this just be another TM endorsement? I’m starting to really get worried.
