Harry Styles cuts his hair for a film, donates ponytail to charity

I have gone on the record as being a Harry Styles girl. That is, if I were pressed to pick a member of One Direction, it would be Harry. Although I do find him hot in a you-should-be-ashamed-of-yourself-grandma kind of way, my main attraction to Harry is because of his puckishness, not his looks. Keeping my flame lit with his wickedness, Harry posted this to his Instagram last Friday:

Whoops. #Littleprincesstrust

However, there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for Harry’s severed ponytail; he will begin filming Christopher Nolan’s WW II film, Dunkirk, in just a matter of days.

Harry Styles‘ hair is long gone and we know why! We told you that Harry cut his hair for his new movie role in Dunkirk but they haven’t even started filming yet, so why did Harry chop off his famous locks now?

It turns out he cut his hair because they start filming in just a few days on May 14! The IMDB page for Dunkirk has been updated and production is set to begin. HollywoodLife.com told you that we spoke to a source who said that Harry had “no choice” but to chop his hair off. “Harry had no choice but to cut his hair for his new movie role,” a source told us. “But Harry knows it’s all for a good cause, and cannot wait to get started on working on the film. He knows this is his first big break in Hollywood and he’s keen to do anything it takes to make it work, and that includes upsetting his scores of fans by cutting his hair.” Harry is making his big screen debut in Christopher Nolan‘s Dunkirk, set during World War II in the 1940s, so it makes sense he had to do away with his long hair. “Christopher Nolan is a stickler for detail,” a source told us. “And he did warn Harry that would be the case and he would have cut his locks if he got the role during the initial screening process.”

[From Hollywood Life]

Nolan warned Harry of the haircut, but not the Twitterverse. Naturally, their reaction was to lose their collective sh-t.

Preying on the fear of the innocent, Ellis Lacy, who once auditioned for the X Factor, used Snapchat’s faceswap to superimpose Harry’s face on his and posted it on Twitter saying, “Harry looks cool with his new hair.” When everyone believed the pic, Lacy doubled-down with a (somewhat disturbing) faceswap video on Facebook. Once it was revealed to be a post of LIES, fans were mad as hell! That is, until they saw that in addition to fake Harry pics, Ellis likes to pose naked on Instagram. This still leaves the world to wonder – what does Harry look like now? Of course, he wouldn’t be my Harry if he did anything to answer this question so he has kept his new coiffure under wraps by staying out of the public eye. Some people just like to watch Rome burn.

Harry is not always naughty, though – he donated his coveted ponytail to Little Princess Trust, an organization that makes wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment. According to what he told James Cordon on The Late Late Show last December, his goal was to grow his hair long enough to donate it. See, Harry is sexy inside and out.

I know that when you’re young everything is suuuuper dramatic and important, but did all of these people forget that hair grows? It might be that long again before they know it, and then they’ll have freaked out for nothing.

Kids these days, I tells ya. LOL. (Spoken as a true old, no?)

    • Sixer says:

My cousin’s little girl threw her Harry autograph – her most treasured possession – in the bin over this. Lord love her. My cousin has sneakily retrieved it and hidden it away, lest she ever wants it again. I remember Chelsea once losing an important football match when Sixlet Minor was about five and he did the same thing with his Chelsea shirt – also his most treasured possession. But the Sixlets seem less outrageable (is that a word?) these days. They’re no fun any more!

I’m a true old too, and I look on with envy at all the passion, if I’m honest, even if the passion is hilarious and misplaced!

Oh my god, I’m immediately transported back to 1995 when Take That broke up. The DRAMA. Now that it’s long over, my bff and I sometimes look back on it with a massive amount of nostalgia and wish we could get excited over something completely ridiculous again. But nothing compares to the insanity of being a teenager. The drama can never be replicated. … Otoh, I would rather eat glass than be 14 again. Which is why I try not to make fun of teenagers and their craziness. We’ve all been there.

      • Sixer says:

None of my passions ever took the form of being a fan of anyone so I do struggle to identify with the crazy followings, but I too had my obsessions and woe betide anyone getting in the way of them. It takes a while to recognise shades of grey. The temptation to make fun is great but the temptation to love them for the crazy madness is greater!

For a 33 year old woman, I just spent far too much time on Ellis Lacy’s instagram. Oh my!

  3. Dana says:

    Gross.

  4. Nancy says:

He could have left that hair on the floor of the salon, but chose to donate it to children struck with cancer. Good job Harry. Like the ALS ice bucket challenge, this would be a wonderful trend to help get wigs made for those little girls going through their struggle. I hope each little girl that gets a wig thinks it was Harry’s hair. Awesome.

    • susanne says:

My daughter just cut her hair and donated it. It was about the length and texture of Harry’s, but cleaner. I thought hair had to be much longer to donate- not true!
Kidling’s hair is now shorter than Harry’s, and she looks gorgeous. I could not be prouder.

  5. Locke Lamora says:

Thank God he cut it. I have nothing against long hair on men, but his always looked so greasy.

    • Lucy2 says:

I know, my first reaction to his long hair was always sort of “ew”.
Nice that he donated it, but I’m still puzzled as to why Christopher Nolan cast him in a film.

    • Naya says:

I dont know if it was the shape of his head or the way he always pinned it, but he looked awful with that hair.

    • EM says:

This. His hair looked unwashed, messy, horrible.

    • Kitten says:

It was terrible. This is a huge improvement.

  6. Melibea says:

Can Nolan ask him to take a shower? You know, “just for the movie” lol

  7. Naya says:

Emma Thompson was just saying how even serious directors are now allowing social media popularity to influence casting choices. Case in point👆🏽

    • Locke Lamora says:

Eh, the roles these people get usually don’t go to the biggest talents anyway. They go to people with great looks. Beofre it was model-turned-actor/actress, now it’s social media star-turned-actor/actress which in the end seems equally bad to me.

    • Carolyn says:

You really think Christopher Nolan is casting someone because of social media? Harry tried out and was deemed good. I learned to shut up with Nolan’s casting after complaining about Anne Hathaway being Catwoman. I was dead wrong.

    • pleaseicu says:

I don’t get that in this case. Most people are questioning if Nolan’s lost it over this casting choice. He doesn’t need Harry for anything for this film to be a success. It’s Christopher Nolan and a big WWII film about Dunkirk. The film sells itself on those 2 things alone.

    • LolaHuesos says:

He was good in the Best Song Ever. I think he can develop into a pretty good actor.

      • Hannah says:

Seriously? You’re all missing the point majorely. The reason he got in the door to a coveted Nolan casting session is because he’s who he is. Have you got any idea how many 21-25 year old graduates from one of Britains many excellent acting academies there are? People who you know actually trained as actors.
Guys who invested 3 years of their life in acting school who doesn’t even get to audition for someone like Nolan. Harry got the job because of what Thompson said. Maybe he didn’t totally suck but half the battle is getting in the door. Many actors who trained can’t even by seen by an a-list director becaus they don’t have the right profile or contacts. You’re all kidding yourself if you think his fame isn’t a large part of why he got this job. He has no acting experience or training. This is the same as Brooklyn beckham getting photography jobs because hes big on the Internet.

      • Kitten says:

I don’t think anybody is missing your point, Hannah. But I do think it’s silly to ignore the fact that Hollywood is big business and they have an obligation to get butts in the seats, which is what a big name with a big fan base does.

A smart casting choice for a big budget film is the good-looking famous kid with decent/workable talent over the hugely-talented, not-so-attractive nobody. Nolan is not an idiot.

      • Hannah says:

well I didn’t say it’s not a big business That’s exactly my point. He’s cast as a business decision, some people in the comments above act as if he got cast on merit which is pretty odd considering he’s never acted before. Nor has he taken any acting classes reportedly, so obviously this is all because of who he is.

As for smart casting choice, decent level talent in acting based on what? A music video? You gotta be kidding. Good looking? There are tons of guys ( he’s not zayn level attractive) as cute as Harry in the theatres in London, he’s really not that special bar his built in fame.
Film history is littered with pop stars who get cast because of their fame and presumed built in audience , recent examples being timberlake and Levine. Very few of them actually go on to have a legit acting career. It’s mostly been proven to be a short sighted business idea. But hey maybe he will blow us all away.

  8. Mia4s says:

You think his fans are dramatic now? Well he’s just one of many young actors in the ensemble. What if his character dies?! *insert evil laugh* 😉

  9. serena says:

” hot in a you-should-be-ashamed-of-yourself-grandma kind of way”.. you totally described my feelings!
Anyway I’m actually happy he cut his hair, it was too long and not flattering on him, I’m sure he looks much better now and more adult-like.

    • Erinn says:

LOL I’m turning 26 this month. Sometime last summer I went on a weird 5 Seconds of Summer kick (a few songs are pretty catchy and I listen to music my entire workday, so I run out of ideas often) and partially because it drove my husband nuts I went onto their online store. And saw jersey style shirts for sale. And the numbers on the back were like 96, 94, etc etc. It took me seeing three of them in a row to realize that it was the year of their birth.

I immediately closed the browser window and felt ashamed of myself.

  10. Ari says:

His new hair cut looks amazing!

  11. Adrien says:

Is his hair even eligible for donation? I know these wig charities have a length limit of 8 -10 inches of donated hair and it should not be treated with chemicals or somethng like that. Should have auctioned that hair and proceeds go to charity. But hey it is still cool. It might encourage his fans to do the same. He looks good with short hair too.

    • HollyG says:

It’s Harry Styles. Even if the hair isn’t usable in a wig, a lot of people would pay big $$$ to tape that ratty looking dog-toy ponytail to their own heads. Or to their life size Harry Styles body pillow.

  12. CidySmiley says:

I mean, nothing against men with long hair but I think he out too much product in his because it always looked on step away from being a grease vat but my oldest niece is destroyed over this. Her Facebook wall is… actually slightly creepy at this point. Besides the point! Oh to be young and dramatic again!

  13. SilkyMalice says:

I honk for this Harry too.

  14. NeoCleo says:

That’s a precarious hairline for a young man. It seems to be inching up the top of his head.

  15. Lucy @ Haair says:

Fandom these days is crazy! Back when I was growing up you’d have to wait for an article in Smash Hits or a TV appearance to learn new stuff, these days the demand is so high for news and the cycle so short it must be crazy for those poor lads.

  16. QQ says:

Im a Zayn Person Through and Through ( hair/face/beard/music/ yes yes yes and yes) and unabashedly but i Enjoyed Harry’s face/style ( THAT SUIT!!!) /superlong hair… wonder if short hair will serve his face well

  17. saltandpepper says:

Wow, how gorgeous is he now that all that fluff is gone. He’s beautiful. And I’m not even a fan 😉

  18. Marianne says:

Not only is not a big deal that he got a haircut…but it can also be re-grown. Like, if he really likes his hair long, Im sure he’ll let it grow out again, and y’all can see him braids and man buns again.

  19. Erica_V says:

Sometimes I wonder how my teen years would’ve been different with modern social media.

Would I have tweeted to Carson Daley about TRL? Would I have posted dramatic IG vids of me hysterically crying over NSYNC’s “hiatus”? Would my full wall JTT college gone viral?

The fake pic of him with short hair is so hot I wouldn’t be surprised if Taylor dumps Calvin and tries to pick that old thing back up…

  20. Magnoliarose says:

His brocade suit is interesting but I don’t get the love except maybe he looks like a vampire. Maybe that’s it.

  21. Amanda G says:

I personally don’t find him attractive, but he looks soooo much better without all that hair!

  22. Caz says:

I think Harry is adorable, long or short hair and I’m not telling you how old I am!
