Good for her, but holy shit Suicide Squad hasn’t even come out yet. Also I am getting worn out by all these comic book and video game movies. It all just feels lazy with the comic books, video games, and remakes.

  2. Mike says:

I just can’t get over the fact that she isn’t the woman from My Name is Earl.

  3. Ayra. says:

I do really like Harley Quinn, but I’m just so tired of these movies. I’ve seen enough comic book adaptations to last me a few years.

    • Lex says:

I’m sick of them, but a solo-female film will always be welcomed in my books, particularly due to the raging inequality for female-led films in the world.

      • Original T.C. says:

Let’s be honest though Hollywood is always happy to make movies of almost naked, wet boys “dream girls”. This character’s fan base is teenage boys who Hollywood bows to at the box office. Robbie Margot is loved because of her sex on two legs aura (which I have no problems with) and her famous sexy scene. She has a 8-year money making window before she is no longer considered desirable by teen boys. So yeah, get yours girlfriend!

The female lead movies that are hard to make is those targeting teenage girls and women. Those are considered money losers. It’s a struggle to make them. Even the StarWars reboot had to be fronted by a guy to make sure teen boys showed up (though he faced racism, boys still recognized him as at least having the same plumbing. LOL).

      • GNAT has taken the last good name says:

        +1000
i hope it won’t finish in a catwoman mess.
but it’s really unfair for scarlett johansson.
i would have prefered her in black widow than in the upcoming ghost in the shell nightmare…

  4. Miss Grace Jones says:

I really can’t see myself watching an entire movie about Harley Quinn. There’s only so much of having to deal with xddddddd I’m cute but psycho scene kid my chemical romance middle school girls I can relive.

    • skipper says:

It’s not only about Harley Quinn. The movie will be focused on several other female comic book characters. I think it’s going to be awesome.

  5. M says:

It’s just me that think Margot Robbie is overrated? People treat her like she’s this great actress and star, I don’t understand.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

Yesterday Vogue released American Psycho’s beginning monologue parody ( ironic for a dark comedy/parody) with her .
I read some tweets that Hollywood needed to reboot American Psycho with her because she is better actress than Christian Bale

      • M says:

better than Christian? What a joke. People just want to see her naked and in sex scenes.

      • SK says:

Wow M, that’s incredibly dismissive! Actually she had RAVE reviews for her acting in Z for Zachariah. In fact, she was the one who got the most attention, not Chiwetel Ejiofor. Not a sexual role at all. And actually, Wolf of Wall Street may have been the “sexy girl” role, but she took a one-note character and breathed life into it. Chica is a talented and charismatic actress as well as seemingly a great person – everyone who works with her loves her. I hope she blows up and becomes J-Law-esque. I also like that she’s pushing to have projects made. Good on her! I’d actually love to see her play Nancy Wake as I think she would be fantastic as Nancy! And if anyone doesn’t know who Nancy is they should immediately look her up! 🙂

    • Lex says:

I think that she embodied her Wolf of Wall Street character better than any role I’ve seen JLaw in. Not saying she’s a great actress (yet) but she’s hardly in a worse league to other good actresses out there. She’ll develop and grow – she’s still relatively new to Hollywood.

    • jammypants says:

I think she’s pretty damn good actually.

    • Grant says:

I think she’s a pretty fantastic actress personally.

  6. Sarah01 says:

I’m over these over sexualised super hero women. I’d like to see a badass super hero whose costume isn’t a men’s fantasy. One of the reasons I watched mad max was to see Charlize being a badass without wearing a low cut top and tight pants.
Same goes for Daisy in Star Wars the focus is on the story and character and not how sexy she is with her ass and boobs on show.
I’m not watching anything with Wonder Woman as her costume is ridiculous.

    • Lynnie says:

While I agree that Wonder Women’s costume is showy, isn’t that the iconic one she’s always been portrayed in? I could see why Warner Brothers wouldn’t want to mess with it because it’s literally one of the only one she has

    • Lex says:

What about a male superheroes costume that isn’t a woman or gay man’s fantasy?
The men have it *differently* but not *easy*

It’s just that sexuality and sensuality for a woman is exposing her body as the female form is beautiful. For the males, it’s all super tight ab-bearing shirts/body suits. They too are often shirtless and are famous for being so (Wolverine, Thor).

I don’t like women being ornaments in films but if they’re strong, badass, take-charge women I am more okay with them showing some skin.

  7. Pandy says:

Geez it would be nice to see something not from a comic book/super hero in the theatres already! I’m a grown up ffs. PS: not sure how that dress could make her look so boxy … but it did.

  8. t.fanty says:

Great. Maybe now that she is the star, they will budget in some pants for her to wear.

  9. Ninks says:

    And none for Jared Leto.

I have zero interest in the Suicide Squad movie, and I’m pretty fed up of the whole comic book movie craze as a whole; but I am thrilled that Robbie is getting all the buzz for this movie and she’s the one getting a standalone movie.

  10. mme says:

Congratulations to her but I feel a typa way that this chick is getting so many job offers while someone like Lupita who is 7x as talented gets zero to nothing. I know I’m coming across as unsupportive of a fellow woman but I can’t even pretend it’s not happening. We have an Oscar winner who actually has acting chops versus the tall leggy blue-eyed blonde and guess who gets more offers and who doesn’t get turned down by Hollywood exec….
Lemme go sit in my corner now.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Make room in that corner because I brought a buffet of yes.

      • mme says:

seriously it makes me so sad. Why does she get all the meaty roles? Everybody raves about her performance opposite Leo in that movie but truth is; anybody could have knocked it out of tha park. Blake Lively would also own that role and she’s not even that good. What I’m still saying is that the quality and number of roles THROWN at her is not commensurate at all with her talent. And again, we have Lupita who is thoroughly proven getting nothing. Maybe it’s because I don’t find her talented at all (I watched that Focus movie she did with Will Smith) but in a fair world, Lupita, Tessa Thompson, etc should be getting better roles and offers.

      • Lex says:

Hmm nah she did a great job in that part. Accent-wise alone!
Have you heard some other actresses (or actors) attempting accents? Horrific.

One actress succeeding does not stop others from doing so. But the race related issues surrounding a great actress like Lupita are evident and need to be remedied.

    • Ayra. says:

I’ll sit in the corner right next to you.

    • amilu says:

….But Margot Robbie does “actually” have acting chops.

    • SK says:

Does it have to be a competition? There should be room for both of them! Of course Lupita should be getting so many more roles… I mean, sadly I personally don’t know if Lupita is 7x more talented as I have only seen her in one movie and as a CGI character in a second. I don’t know what her range is like. So, yes, 100% she should be getting more roles! But I don’t think Margot should be getting fewer roles as I love to watch her. I think they are both wonderful actresses with different strengths. The fact is that women are woefully underserved in movies in general. Everyone who is not a straight white male is woefully underserved. And then layer onto that being an actress of colour and it is just ridiculous. I just don’t think that it needs to be an either/or situation. I think a swathe of women of all ages, colours and sizes should be getting way more roles offered to them! Some need more of an increase than others (eg: Lupita) but I don’t want to see any less!

  11. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Might want to wait until Suicide Squad comes out and actually turns a profit. BvsS ain’t doing so well.

I know I should be all yay feminism but I don’t care for this version of Harley that had her costume and backstory changed to make her a sexy vixen with no agency in her life. So Ho hum.

    • Lex says:

How do you know she has no agency if the ‘film isn’t even out’?

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Unless they changed her backstory for the film this version of Harley Quinn doesn’t choose to become the Joker’s sidekick/romantic partner so much as her abusive boyfriend makes the choice for her. That is the version of comic book Harley they’re portraying in the movie so I’d assume it’d also come with her past.

  12. CornyBlue says:

I am glad that Loving and Ruth Negga is getting major Oscar buzz.

    • antipodean says:

@CornyBlue, a big Amen, I am with you on that. Ruth Negga has a stellar body of work, and I can’t wait to see this movie. It is absolutely gobsmacking that these laws were so recently still in effect. I was really touched by the lady director who said that it was simple/ordinary people like the Lovings who changed the world by simply living their lives with, you know it, LOVE! I am a great believer that in the end it truly does conquer all. Call me a sap, and I will agree that yes, yes, I am, and proud of it!

    • HeidiM says:

I can’t wait to see it. I enjoy Jeff Nichols movies and I have feels for Joel Edgerton! Many Feels!

      • GNAT has taken the last good name says:

        i m more dubitative…
edgerton has lost me in the exodus debacle.
playing the role of white man who fought for his love a black woman when he didn t it find problematic to take the part of a poc in the ridley scott film.
        how hypocritical of him.

      • manta says:

I didnd’t understand how Edgerton put himself in that situation. Apart from his work, especially in Warrior (terrific underseen flick) or for David MichĂ´d, I know of him because of his high profile relationship with Cathy Freeman, the track and field star, a few years back.

So, the man was part of an inter racial couple (I loved them together), is, from what I’ve heard, involved in charities helping aboriginal people, and he went there…
I’ll still check his work though.

  13. Miss M says:

I am glad ahe got a spin off! I actually like her, but I do wonder for how many years she will say she is 25…

    • OriginallyBlue says:

Until she turns 26 in a couple months?

    • Lex says:

Haha and last year she was 24!

She started on Neighbours back home when she was 17, right after high school. I finished school the same year (2007) and was watching the show at that time!

Google Images photos of her on Neighbours. That’s a young woman! Her character’s name was Donna.

      • Starkiller says:

Lex is either Margo herself or her publicist. Over half of the comments on this thread are from him/her.

Her accent in Wolf might have sounded fine to a non-American, but it really wasn’t quite as good as you’re making out. Even so, an American accent is the easiest one there is. Call me about her incredible accent work when she nails, I don’t know, Geordie or Glaswegian or Afrikaner.

      • OriginallyBlue says:

From the link Bobby updated that story, with something about being sent an article mentioning her role in Neighbours and stating that she was 17. He also did another story which included pictures from her high school yearbook in 2007 and the original magazine article stating that she was 23, made a correction and apologized for incorrectly aging her.

      • Miss M says:

The writer said he could not locate the article with the screengrabs sent to him. Artists lie a lot about their ages. Even if she is not, she looks like she has aged a lot recently (having a mature look).

  14. Kitten says:

Scott Neslage is like, WOW. Gimmee.

  15. BendyWindy says:

Apparently Scarlett Johansson needs tips from this chick. Black Widow should have had her own movie years ago.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

For better or worse it seems like DC is more open to supporting its female characters (they did announce and show previews for a Wonder Woman movie while Marvel was still hemming and hawing over a Black Widow movie).

      Different movie studios, different approaches.

      • Ashling says:

All the female characters in Suicide Squad are in skimpier outfits than they have ever been portrayed. I have read DC comics for years. So I don’t know if I would necessarily say Warner Brothets is “supporting” female characters. Hopefully both Marvel and Warner Brothers start to have more representation of female characters that I would want my daughter to see. I enjoy Harley Quinn, but I am not taking my kids to see her in booty shorts in Suicide Squad.

  16. KeishaMarie says:

I’m soooo happy to read I’m not the only one sick of superhero movies….enough already!!

  17. pru says:

So excited for Mr. Robot’s return!!

  18. Mar says:

    I think she’s in her late 20s.

  19. Flynn says:

Yawn. There have been a couple of sources saying that Suicide Squad is a mess. It kinda looks like it, tbh.
