Melissa McCarthy & Kristen Wiig do ‘folk version’ of the Ghostbuster’s theme

The new Ghostbusters movie comes out July 15 and I can’t wait to see it. Part of it is how much I like the cast but I also want to prove the people complaining about the trailer wrong. Promotion is kicking into high gear, with the gang making a stop on Graham Norton Friday. Their segment showed how comfortable they are together from ribbing each other to finishing one another’s jokes. When the musical guest, Christine from Christine and the Queens, came to the couch, the ladies started teasing her as well. None of it felt mean, more of a friendly, “you are one of us now” way. They discussed the negative reaction the trailer got (which Graham aptly dubbed “Nerdaggedon”), how they got started in the business and, understandably, how hot Chris Hemsworth is.

They ain’t afraid of no ghosts!

Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig made beautiful music together on a recent visit to the The Graham Norton Show while promoting their highly anticipated Ghostbusters reboot.

Egged on by the film’s director Paul Feig and their costars Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, McCarthy and Wigg performed what Feig described as a “folk lady version” of the franchise’s classic Ray Parker Jr.-theme.

The cover was as the idea of McCarthy, 45, and Wiig, 42, who, Feig joked, came up with he song as a way to “really enrage men” who complained that their favorite movie was being rebooted with four female leads.

“Fellas all across the world in their mothers’ basements rose up!” joked McCarthy, earlier in the show. “We tried to explain that the other films will still exist and that it’s not an either-or situation.

Also on their The Graham Norton Show-trip, the ladies dished on their hunky costar Chris Hemsworth.

“I just needed something to be wrong with him, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with him!” she added.

Aside from being incredibly attractive, the ladies admitted they were stunned with how funny Hemsworth was on set.

“We were like, ‘Did you bring writers or something?’ ” joked Jones. “He was killing it.”

I’m happy they are deriding the controversy at this point. They have spoken to that subject enough, it’s time to laugh it off and move forward. Among their other anecdotes, Leslie did a priceless impression of her father’s reaction when she abandoned her scholarship to pursue comedy. Following that, Kate razzed her about how, after a year of working together on SNL, Leslie thought her name was Kate Middleton. I am positive the ladies’ chemistry elevates the movie from good to great.

Here is a clip of the ladies discussing – or losing it over – Chris on set:

I posted this before but if you are a Kevin enthusiast, check this out. I swear I am going to see the film for the women but watching the Greater Hemsworth ain’t gonna hurt.

Here is the clip of Melissa and Kristen’s folk version of the Ghostbusters’ theme, which they sang in exchange for Paul Fieg getting slimed:

In case you didn’t see it, the current Ghostbusters appeared on Jimmy Kimmel June 8th. They came back the following night to join the former cast, including Ray Parker, Jr. who sat in with the band.

I really hope this movie is great. I can’t believe all the grown men whining that it’s going to ruin their childhood. Slime them.

I plan to see it opening night just to slap back at all the whiners. My problem with it won’t be substituting female cast for men but substituting Boston’s Chinatown for New York City. Each time I see the trailer, I get oddly discombobulated because places I know are pretending to be somewhere else.

They look like they have so much fun together.
I love Melissa talking about Hemsworth, and Leslie freaking out about Paul’s suit.

What a stupid “controversy”. Those men clearly have no bigger problems – how dare these women, with their boobs and their periods, try to act like they know anything about physics and ghosts, when they should be birthing children while cooking dinner. I have such high hopes for this movie now, just to laugh in their stupid misogynistic faces.

I haven’t heard of Christine and the Queens before, but now I’m a fan. Her dancers are amazing and the entire performance was perfection.

That seems more of a “cheesy lounge singer” version of the song than a “folk” rendition, but it was funny.

LMAO at them marveling at Chemsworth’s sense of humor and asking if he brought writers. I guess they expected a box of rocks.

I’m guessing this movie does well, we need a distraction here in the US more than ever.

I cannot wait for this movie!!!!

  7. Miss Grace Jones says:

The men throwing tantrums over this are complete losers but the movie itself doesn’t look like it’s going to be funny or entertaining at all at least to me. I never saw the original so the nostalgia factor isn’t ruining it for me either.

Also like…honestly I’ll be so happy when movies starring all or mostly white women are stopped being seen as groundbreaking or peak feminism because omg women.

Looking forward to the movie, there are hilarious on GN show.

My Brother in Law is one of those titty Babies, I absolutely plan on going, and laughing it up in his face , Also I LOVE to see these chicks interacting and riffing off each other, I hope is genuine friendly (ya know as Opposed to whatever Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon were doing?)

  10. Amy says:

These are all very talented women and I just do not see why they are not putting all that talent to use by creating something that is new and exciting and groundbreaking and that we have not seen before. We do not get fresh ideas out of Hollywood any more so anything remotely fresh could have been a big hit whether it starred men, women, or cats in tutus.

I do not know whether their version of Ghostbusters will be good or not but when you appropriate someone else’s movie hating is expected. It also gives the haters plenty of opportunity to say “Look this proves that women can’t write anything of their own! They have to steal OUR movie!”

Melissa and Kristen both create new work all the time. Kate and Leslie are on SNL most of the year, but I imagine both write and create on that show as well.

I get your point about wanting original material and agree, but I think the fault lies with the studios, not these 4 women.

I can’t wait for this. I hope it is hilarious and the big hit of the summer so that all of those fabulous ladies get tons of other offers! More movies!

  12. Carol says:

I love all these ladies and hope the movie is as good as they are together. Although I thought having an all female cast in ghostbusters was a great idea, I am one of the folks that was not impressed with the trailer. I hope I am proved incredibly wrong and the move is a blast!

Wow you’re white we get it
