Daily Beast: Kim Kardashian beat Taylor Swift at Swifty’s own game

FFN_FF9FF10_KARDASHIAN_K_07152016_52123821

It’s one of those days where we can’t even pretend that there are many stories to pursue. There’s only one gossip story on anyone’s radar: “How Kim Kardashian Beat Taylor Swift at Her Own Game.” That’s the headline for this Daily Beast piece, an absolutely thorough analysis of everything that led up to Kim Kardashian exposing Taylor Swift, and how brilliantly Kim played those receipts. I get that Kim is no one’s favorite person, but give props where they’re due: she came out the victor. It’s also worth noting that Kim dropped the Snapchat just after a new episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. It was the episode where Kim told her family about how she was so pissed about Taylor Swift’s lies. Kim spoke to her mother about it:

“Kanye says what he wants and he has no filter … and some people may not understand that,” Kim added during her interview. “Usually I try to stay neutral and just give moral support.”

At the end of the episode, Kim sat down with Kris to discuss her controversial GQ interview concerning Swift, 26, and the issues surrounding her article.

“What would happen if you just called Taylor up and say ‘what happened? How did this go so south?’ ” Kris told Kim. “I guess I don’t understand the motivation to flip … maybe she took it the wrong way. My advice would to be give Taylor Swift a call.”

“Thank you or your lovely advice,” Kim told her mother, “but I’m not going to take it.”

[From People]

I think it’s interesting that Kim thought about it, formed a plan, and executed that plan to perfection. Kim was also on Twitter throughout the day and evening yesterday, giving people a preview of how she was about expose Taylor without ever mentioning a name:

Incidentally, Kim’s plan might not have been the only planned-statement to drop last night. As many have pointed out, Taylor’s Instagram/Twitter post – which she wrote in Notes – was a draft she had written at some point, likely before last night? Taylor was really quick to drop her statement after the Snapchat, so many believe she knew that Kim was about to expose her and had her statement all worked out ahead of time.

While the gossip-instinct might be to say “they were all in it, they’re all profiting from it,” I don’t know. I think they’re all profiting from it to a certain extent, but this has really damaged Taylor’s brand.

Am I crazy to think that Kim wanted to make sure she looked bangin hot again before she put herself at the center of a media storm? She’s so predictable, haha.

    • susie says:

      also, is that a nighty?

      • LadyJane says:

She only goes out looking naked or in lingerie. Her choice, but not surprising to see her in a nighty.

      • Ronaldinhio says:

some of her outfits have been insanely revealing lately
        i get that.
every time I have shifted 7 lbs I act like a VS model for a day or two
For me she needs to reign that in …not that my opinion counts

      • Pandy says:

No, it’ a slip. An effing slip. ME ME ME ME ME ME look at ME ME ME ME. Still didn’t hear Kanye tell Taylor he was calling her a bitch though.

    • lisa2 says:

I know Kim is not liked.. but what does her appearance have to do with any of this.

      • Aussie girl says:

Uum because in the pictures of her in this thread she is wearing a nighty! Seriously it’s a little bitty nighty?!?

      • OrigialTessa says:

Just that I think she didn’t want to be at the center of a huge media circus until she looked good. She’s been sitting on this for like a year, then bam she goes out and gets papped in a teddy. She’s just Kim. Kim will always be Kim.

      • mila says:

maybe cos she never did anything but have her pics taken? can we talk about her charity work? acting? her degree in something? her music career? no. she is just a bag of plastic pieces with a infamous last name.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I think it’s more due to the fact that people started to see cracks in Swifty’s PR game, with the Tiddlesbanging, and Calvin and Katy. But this is Kim, so looking good was also a priority.

      • Ronaldinhio says:

        100%
I don’t think Kim, or anyone for that matter, likes someone treating their family badly or unfairly
I think that she was always going to speak about this at some point but is clever enough to wait for a time where people were more likely to listen
The narrative at this point in time isn’t ‘poor Taylor, the genius bambi feminist’ but er.. maybe ‘Taylor the kick ass, arch manipulator’ or ‘gasp, mean girl’ and so people are more likely to consider Kanye in this story and see that maybe he had a point and maybe Taylor kicked him firmly in the chest at the Emmys
I dunno if Kim was trying to decide if she could live with it or not. Whatever. I think she was right to speak her truth. Taylor’s and Kanye’s could be different but I’m glad to see and hear this

    • A says:

My thoughts exactly! She well planned this and made sure the latest stock photos of her were these ones.

    • Donna says:

I’d be embarrassed to walk by windows in my house with the curtains open wearing that, let alone go out in it. I mean, yeah, it looks good on her reduced/tweaked body, but my God, save it for the bedroom.

    • CJ Berk says:

Such trivial nonsense. What is really disturbing is Kim Kardashian’s pathetic need for attention manifested by her choices regarding her clothing or lack of…she is mentally ill. Sadly she goes to a restaurant in a nightgown…she is naked in Cuba…and on and on. This girl is deeply disturbed. Why doesn’t anyone call her out on this? It’s sad and strange and she should get professional help. If Kanye himself were more rational, he would deal with it before those kids are thrown into the nightmare world of the Kardashians. It may already be too late for the daughter though.

      • Locke Lamora says:

She’s mentally ill because she wears revealing clothes? This is sarcasm, right?

      • pinetree13 says:

To be fair, if I suddenly went out in a tiny see-through nightie like that with A RAIN JACKET on top but left open, I assume my neighbors would think i was mentally ill as well!!!! LOL they’d be like “Poor woman, she’s delusional…doesn’t even realize she’s wandered outside” hahahaha

But I’m loving Kim for all this drama. It feeds my drama-llama.

    • Elle says:

Ha! Can’t look “bangin” when your still hiding your enormous bum with coats.

  2. Cali says:

Kim just wanted viewers for her stupid episode of KUWTK. Kim is the queen of lies and fakery, for Pete’s Sake.

    • mila says:

add plastic surgery and you have the full picture. i just cannot understand how can anyone support this family. just beyond me.

    • Tate says:

Yea, I just can’t bring myself to cheer for Kim or Kanye.

      • Aussie girl says:

There is a lot of Kim loving going on in these threads. Calling her queen. this is Kim K!!! Again I’m not team Taylor she has been passive aggressive for too long with games and lies. BUT let’s not lose sight of Kimmy K, the bad dressing, shallow and really no talented, leaked sex vid girl. Again I have no love for Taylor but I’m surprised how many are hailing Kim a hero for this take down. I guess their dislike for Taylor is stronger and out ways there dislike for the Kardashians

      • Tate says:

@Aussie I agree with everything you said. I am not team Taylor but I will openly admit that my disgust for all things Kardashian will always outweigh anything , even Taylor and her games.

      • Bluebelle says:

@AussieGirl I believe I am included on that comment about people calling Kim queen, and I don’t have to defend it but I will. I find it refreshing that Taylor’s actions that have deemed her to be considered almost a saint, while at the same time actively trying to destroy other artist’s careers are finally exposed for what they are. Yes, Kim is no role model either, but she knows it and doesn’t go to a corner to cry when WE ALL try to take her down when she goes on to do something vapid and stupid. Kim might not be a saint, but she isn’t pushing that image to the media while being otherwise privately. Long live Queen Kim.

      • Erinn says:

Yeah, I’m honestly a mixture of confused and amused at the love they’re getting. These are the same people that EVERYONE loves to hate. People who regularly get so much criticism – even when what they’re doing something super minor. But here we are, in backwards land.

      • Aussie girl says:

@BLUEBELL, I admire you for owning your K love and i apologise if I made you feel like you had to defend yourself. I suppose in Kanye’s words I meant no disrespect. But because we spar on this site, I will say that I don’t agree that Kim doesn’t pretend to be innocent or play the victim with her image. You only have to look at her past regarding her marriage to Chris and other things like her posing for playboy ( these are all documented on KUWTK), to see the storyline we are constantly been sold. That is that Kim is the victim, Chris was the bad guy or she didn’t mean to expose herself so much in playboy or her sex tape was leaked. I mean come on, Taylor and Kim play the same game, Taylor and Kim are both the same. Let’s not put Kim up on a pedal stool, You come off sounding like those deluded Taylor swift fan girls. Let’s keep it real

      • Chica says:

@Aussie girl So you’re just going to act like Taylor hasn’t purposely done more harm to her exes than Kim ever has to hers? Kim is not a saint and she also has never really attempted to act like she’s a victim to the degree Taylor has. She also has not acted like she’s above the ugly within gossip itself. The homie Swifty purposely engages in character assignation, but does so in passive aggressive manners and LIES about it to make herself look good. If anything, she and Taylor are on the same levels at best.

      • Aussie girl says:

@ CHICA lol, did you even read what I wrote…? Go and read everything ( further up) I’ve posted in this thread, including what your responding to. I believe I say that Taylor is a passive agressive liar and her and Kim are both as bad as each other. Please read my post. Lol

Just because I won’t say that KIM is great doesn’t mean I’m team swifty. What I don’t get is apparently if I don’t like both of them, I’m team swift. I can’t stand both of them but when I say this and give my reasons why I get jumped on by team Kim people. Because apparently bringing down swift makes Kim a Marta and wipes all her fake ( life and body) made up storyline bullshit .

Yes Kim trumped at the game today but she is just as bad as the other player swifty. All y’all taking sides are doing exactly what these two women want you too. Seriously wake up and don’t be a puppet by these fake fools.

      • Missy says:

@Aussie, Chica is a Kimye fan with questionable reading comprehension skills. She goes on an off-tangent rant at every perceived insult to Kim.

      • swak says:

@Aussie, totally agree with you! They both equally play the victim.

      • Dana m says:

I bet you twenty bucks that Taylor has her lawyers figuring out if she can sue them (due to video footage recording w/o her permission). She loves all the fighting & drama so I feel confident that she will not let this go without the last word.

Run Tom RUN, it’s not too late to bail!!

    • lisa2 says:

She may have wanted to gain viewers.. but does that negate that she showed the truth.

    • mila says:

      lisa2

what truth? TS and KW are musicians. they had a phone conversation. and? it is a private matter. what is the big deal that TS is not Miss Perfect? Well, duh, its her stage persona. Just cos you do not like her it does not mean something like KK can judge her or anyone else who can do more than take nude pics.

Personally, I do not give a darn about TS. But this is Katrashian trying to get more and more attention and some sympathy. She does not know what the truth is. They all keep saying that their butts are real. Also, KW is married to a woman. Talking about lying…

      • Sarah says:

Well, Taylor lied about KK’s husband publicly. Wouldn’t you release a tape if you had it defending a family member? I sure would.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I love how people are conveniently forgetting that. I also love that narrative, as if Kim K. of ALL people is the underdog who came and defeated the evil one. Please. I also don’t believe this has damaged TS’s brand at all. Her fans won’t care.

    • Lucy says:

Yeah but the difference is Kim never fronts like she’s anything more or innocent or wholesome, she plays into her hot always naked sex-doll plastic surgery look whereas Taylor has spent her whole career trying to pretend like she’s Americas sweetheart while behind closed doors she’s a grade A b*tch

      • Bluebelle says:

        Amen to that, Lucy.

      • KatM says:

        Double Amen!

      • mila says:

still, the question remains. even with this, does it make KW look better? are his songs better? and btw, KK is married to KW the person, not KW the musician. She used him to gain more attention. That is the bottom line. As for TS, she will lose what, 2 fans? Who cares. This is KK showing us once again that it is all about her.

      • Chica says:

@Mila Actually it shows Kanye is not a complete assh*le. IT shows he came to taylor out of respect for her to let her know what he wanted to do with his song and what lyrics he was going to say. “Friendship is more important than a punch line”. He was not saying the lyrics he said out of disrespect and SHE, Taylor, KNEW that and approved of it. However, she conveniently threw him under the bus when the song came out and made it seem he was attacking her which was total BS. She played apart in damaging his credibility. No matter if you think he’d damaged it already, he faux reaction, aided in damaging it further, no matter how tf you want to spin it. Kanye has always had his brutal honestly going for him for better or worse, and Taylor put that into question by lying her ass off.
Kim was sticking up for her husband, bc despite what you may feel about him, he actually gave a damn about Taylor’s feelings and sought her approval on what he knew may be deemed controversial and an aggro attack against her, especially given their history, before he dropped the song.

GTFO trying to make it seem what Kim did is preposterous. It’s petty as hell, but it serves a legit purpose. And you’re effort in trying to ignore it?
All it does is make you look like a Taylor stan. The proof is right there in front of you and you bias makes you bury your head in the sand.

      • Aussie girl says:

No this won’t make Kayne Wests music or album better. See you can say that and not like Taylor swift. Appetntly it has to be one or the other….? Lol, Who made these rules…?
@CHICA you came late to the party and rushed through with out reading what people posted. You come across abit Khloe atm

    • Missy says:

Yup, she definitely orchestrated this for maximum publicity and viewership. I bet it was her idea for Kanye to call Taylor and have the conversation recorded.

While I do give her kudos for her “takedown” of Taylor, it’s pretty rich that Kim is calling Taylor a snake, and maintaining that she’s merely “speaking the truth.” Because half of the sh*t that comes out of Kim’s mouth are lies. And she’s blasting Taylor for behavior that she’s definitely done herself in the past. Remember when Kim divorced Kris Humphries for no real reason? To appear more sympathetic, she filmed fake scenes discussing her marital issues, playing the victim, and foreshadowing her divorce. The problem though, is that these scenes were filmed after they separated.

So yeah, it’s hyprocritical that Kim is calling out Swifty for playing the victim and rewriting history, when she’s done the exact same thing herself. #TeamNoOne

      • felixswan2 says:

        @ missy, agree 100%

      • Chica says:

She’s done the same thing mostly to the HERSELF. not to character assassinate other people out there in the world. That’s the major difference between Kim and Taylor.

And this part: “I bet it was her idea for Kanye to call Taylor and have the conversation recorded.”
NO actually. Most Musicians usually record themselves while working on albums bc the footage can be used for additional album related video- visuals or documentaries. Kanye West has ALWAYS recorded his sessions in the studio and while working on his albums. #Facts

      • Missy says:

@Chica Writing in all-caps and using the hashtag #Facts doesn’t make what you’re saying true. I will welcome sources that contradict me, but none of what you said proves that Kim wasn’t behind the secret recording.

      • Aussie girl says:

@ MISSY I see what you mean

The cow JUMPED over the moon #facts

      • Missy says:

        @Aussie Lol!!

      • swak says:

@Chica – “She’s done the same thing mostly to the HERSELF. not to character assassinate other people out there in the world.” Yet she made Chris H look like the bad guy in the marriage. So yes she has done this to others.

      • Jeanette says:

        YES!

And on a side note..When did Bitch become a compliment?

Do women go around complimenting men by calling them Bastards? Its misogyny.

This song is Misogynistic. Read the lyrics. He is putting himself above all past girlfriends and Taylor. They are jealous, everyone wants on the Kanye dick etc. Kim needs to address that her husband thinks he is better than her and every other woman instead of Taylor’s supposed lies of omission. What did Khloe say the other day “Get in your own lane little girl!”

    • Tifygodess24 says:

Right?! I said this in the other thread. Kim is a notorious proven liar, and victim player herself. She has made a career out of lies and scandal. So I don’t know why she’s playing herself off any better. THIS isn’t about defending her husband- it’s about Kim. Kim needing attention, Kim needing headlines, Kim wanting to be the center of the world always! Freaking sick. If it was about defending her man she would have dropped these recordings how long ago? So come on. All we are doing with this is feeding into Kim narcissism. Which makes me sick to my stomach. I wish all of the parties involved in this would just disappear. I am so sick of this family. I’m no fan of Taylor but the nonsense I have seen all over Twitter and anyone who tries and defend her is nasty bullying at its finest. I guess I don’t see a take down of someone winning. Plus I can’t get behind a family like the kardashians and all they stand for no thanks. No winners here as far as I’m concerned.

      • Aussie girl says:

Yep, they are both as bad as each other. #teambothareliars

      • mary s says:

Kim wasn’t getting enough attention, and people are sick of the over-exposure of Taylor. This whole thing has made $$ for Kim, and it ensures her brand is still relevant. She is very shrewd when it comes to her business.

      • Sarah says:

I wonder if Taylor is going to take down her post. She has over 200K responses and most of them are laughing at her!! Poor Tom H!! He must be seeing her temper tantrums up close!!

        #teamnoone

    • Jwoolman says:

Kim has been caught faking scenes months later to smear her husband Humphries. They all routinely fake phone calls as well on their shows. Credibility would be higher if the video was posted immediately at the appropriate time without obvious editing. She could have put it on her website so she would not be restricted by instagram’s ten second rule for video. It seems too easy to cut out anything that didn’t fit her spin.

In addition to wanting to boost ratings for her show, Kim also has recently been promoting a relationship with Instagram (something about new filters). So this very likely has something to do with that also, especially since Instagram is actually a poor choice for posting a longer video. But it gets hits for Instagram.

I hope people stop talking to these folks. It might be legal what she did depending on what state Taylor was in, but seems rather unethical. I didn’t notice Kanye telling her they were recorded or that she was on speaker phone. What other private conversations are they going to post next? If it were going into a documentary about the legendary Kanye, wouldn’t they have to get releases from everybody?

Bet Kim has quite an archive started of private recordings of Kanye….

      • Aussie girl says:

+100. I think people really wanted to see Taylor go down and I don’t blame them, girl had it coming. But let’s not make Kim more than she is.

      • mary s says:

As much as Kim is amazing to me, I too am surprised that so many people are acting like she hasn’t built her brand by creating smoke and mirrors. Like I said above, this whole thing is making a lot of money for Kim. In the next few days we will learn that she has the most followers on Snapchat, and how snapchat is the most popular media sharing site.

I’m curious how Taylor is going to spin this. Her media team must be working triple overtime to come up with a credible gameplay. Maybe she will go away for a while, then re-emerge with a new narrative about how she and Kim have kissed and made up. Tiddles needs to go deep underground, too.

      • Elle says:

This! Clearly edited, and they routinely fake scenes, calls, relationships and body parts. Everyone knows West isn’t that articulate. Just check out his Ellen appearance or Dave Chapelle’s story about him.

    • Sarah says:

Yup. All true. But Taylor has her matched in lies and fakery. And while I despise what Kim represents, at least she owns who she is. Taylor pretends to be sweet and light, so Mommies love her for their 11 year old daughters. And this won’t hurt Taylor at all with those Mommies.

Me, I like Adele with her swearing for my kids more. At least she is who she is. 🙂

  3. Matomedah says:

I was looking on the other thread for Taylor’s response but didn’t see it. I read the transcript of the convo and then her response. I think it’s nitpicking semantics, but she has a point and I’m not sure why no one noted that?

    • AlleyCat says:

She keeps changing her story. At first she states that she never heard the song and Kanye just wanted her to tweet him for promotion. Then she states that the first time she heard was with the rest of the public and she was humiliated. In her Grammy speech she explained that no man should take credit for a woman’s success. In the snapchat, she approves and even giggles about these lyrics. She probably thought it was funny, then saw how the public stood up for her when the song dropped so she changed her view. Either way she lied.

      • Jwoolman says:

She didn’t deny having the conversation. She only said that she didn’t know or approve that once again he was going to claim he made her famous the way he did.

Kanye changed the lyric after the conversation, according to his own people. He was talking vaguely to her about it. She very likely just thought he was giving her a heads up that he would be mentioning her in his production, but didn’t hear the whole lyric. Y’all know Kanye isn’t the easiest guy to understand when he’s on a roll, yes?

      • Chica says:

@Jwoolman Actually taylor says “You didn’t know who I was before that, that’s fine.” When juxtaposed next to “I made that bitch famous” it’s semantics, but it basically saying the same thing. She told him “use whatever lyrics you think sounds best”. It has everything to do with his own experience and perceptions as an artist. She understands that as an artist herself. So as Lainey said “It’s implied approval that if that’s how he sees it, in his personal experience, artist to artist, it’s condoned.”

    • Betti says:

It’s not semantics. She denied ever having a convo with Kanye about the track but this proves otherwise, meaning she lied. She s now clutching at straws cause she’s been exposed for what we all know her to be.

Well played Kim, Tay Tay got played by someone who can play the manipulation game better than her.

If you’re going to build a career/image on bringing others down then u have to expect it will bite u in the ass one day.

    • Talie says:

Her story has changed too much — probably because she didn’t know she was being recorded. The truth is, everyone is an as*hole in this scenario, but she dug her own grave by trying to play victim.

      • lisa2 says:

I think that is what the bottom line is. When Kanye didn’t show that he talked to her after that Grammy speech she thought there was nothing he had in reserve. So now the spin begins.. As they say; when you are telling the truth there is no need to change the story. The truth is the truth.

    • Matomedah says:

Ok, sorry. I don’t remember the details of the original story. And I didn’t see there was a separate thread about her response, oops! I remember the general story but not what exactly was said. I think at the Grammys her whole speech was about not letting anyone claim your accomplishments, so that speaks to the “I made…famous” line. But I don’t remember the original and I own zero of her music, so I’m not a super fan defending her or anything.

  4. Luca76 says:

At the end of the day
Kim still has no discernible talent.
    Famous still didn’t sell
    The video cost 600 grand
Kanye is still 50 million in debt by his own account

    • Bluebelle says:

And to the end of the day we can add:

      Taylor is a liar
      Taylor miscalculated
Taylor’s fans are blind and delusional
Taylor’s fans make up excuses in a millisecond
Kim has no discernible talent, but she spoke the TRUTH this time.

Taylor might be considered a good artist, but she IS STILL A LIAR. They’re not mutually exclusive.

      • Luca76 says:

She lied about something petty and she loses today but longterm I think she will persevere and only get stronger from this. Its just an instinct but longterm there will be a backlash against Kanye and Kim. And I say this as someone who believed Kim before she ever released the tape.

      • FingerBinger says:

@Bluebelle Nobody cares if Taylor is a liar. People have done worse but still have careers. That doesn’t mean anything.

      • Bonzo says:

FingerBinger, I disagree. People do care that Taylor is a liar and exposed as such. Thing is, people know Kim is a calculating famewhore, she wears it loud and proud. Taylor’s been much more manipulative in promoting and sweet, innocent victim image while tearing other people down — artists, ex bfs and their new bfs — and somehow got away with it. Now she’s being exposed as a hypocrite. Her image has taken a huge hit with the Kimye and Calvin feuds playing out the past couple of months.

It’s pretty clear that Taylor cares deeply what people think of her and she overplayed her hand at the Grammys and got slapped hard by a series of masterful PR moves by Kim.

        Bluebell, I agree wholeheartedly.

    • Eleonor says:

Kim has an instinct for pr and how to use internet. I hate to admit it too,but the point is not the single Kanye’s phrase, is not what Taylor said. Kim has menaged to expose TS lies in a way nobody was able before.
I bet Calvin Harris and Katy Perry are sending her flowers right now.

    • HH says:

“Kim still has no discernible talent.”>>>>>>>>> You’re gonna use that argument in a defense of Taylor Swift? While Swift can snap her fingers and have a hit, homegirl isn’t exactly Adele. And she’s certainly not a lyrical genius. Her career is more a result of her image: a “sweet, ‘all american’ innocent girl.” It’s so central to her brand that she had to craft the lie that got her into this mess.

      • Luca76 says:

Look I’ve been pro Taylor lately but I’m no simpering teenage fan of Taylor Swifts. As annoying as her music is she’s a hit maker. She has a room full of Grammys. She has a talent for making ear worms. She has fan bases in pop and country. She has a skill set. No amount of hilarious gifs or memes can actually bring her down.
On the other hand Kim will eventually lose her show, her looks and her relevance. Kanye by his own admission is broke and though I find him more talented he’s lost his way and his damn mind. All I’m saying is they really haven’t actually won anything at the end of the day.

      • Naya says:

You are right in that Taylor has a discernible talent and Kim just doesnt. But lets not forget that the world has been waiting for a Kardashian implosion nigh on ten years. It hasnt happened because the Ks know how to manufacture drama and are beating the age game by having a younger generation primed to take over. Eventually, the k power will wane but they have atleast five years to go before that happens.

Taylor on the other hand is a cutesy female pop star and those types tend to have a shelf life. Once in awhile you get a Beyonce, somebody who was able to age with her audience while still somehow attracting younger fans but do you genuinely see this juvenile vindictive woman pulling that off? Very soon her bobby socks persona will either be considered corny and uncool by her aging fanbase OR the image will be irreparably punctured by her industry mates calling her malicious. Lets face it, in our world, a woman celebrity with a two faced reputation is finished. Even Madonna only got away with her b*tchery because she wore it on her sleeve. The clock is ticking on Taylor.

She needs to disappear for a few months and maybe release a Grown Up Christmas album or a classics album. Anything to show maturity. No more victimhood. No more slagging off exes and industry rivals. Otherwise as her kiddie fans approach their late teens, she’ll be back begging for a place at the Nashville table.

      • Luca76 says:

@Naya I agree that she needs to lay low at least for the rest of the summer. Thing is she’s a songwriter and she makes hits. Even that god awful Calvin Harris song. Unlike many other artists she’s not really at the mercy of the industry to give her songs.

As for Kim she may never completely go away but I do think she’s peaked. And there will be a backlash against her.

      • Betti says:

@Naya – Taylor is desperate to be taken seriously as an artist but she never will be with the PR and infantile stunts she keeps pulling, she is a victim of her own immaturity.

Unless she matures as a person and an artist she will disappear. She can’t go back to country as she burned that bridge and from what i can recall they were glad to see the back of her. She wasn’t popular amongst the country set, particularly as she didn’t toil for her success – Mummy and Daddy bought a record label and used that to launch her ‘career’ after she failed to get a record deal the usual way. She has some talent as a song writer – she should go behind the scenes and write for others.

      • HH says:

@Luca – “As annoying as her music is she’s a hit maker. She has a room full of Grammys. She has a talent for making ear worms. She has fan bases in pop and country. She has a skill set.” >>>> But this argument is not any more substantive than the argument that could be made for Kim. As annoying as Kim is, she’s still:

-Has a massive fan base: 45MM followers on BOTH Instagram and Twitter
-Parlayed her social media status into a networth of $50MM
-Gets paid in the six figures for simply hosting/showing up to an event
-Has guest starred in movies and TV shows
-Has made the list of Time’s 100 Most Influential People
-Appeared on the covers of numerous magazines
        -Has multiple business ventures
        -Has successful mobile gaming app

This (as in the public discourse, not you specifically) is not and has never been an argument about talent. This is about a certain level of elitism. People continually want to argue that there’s a only one way to be considered a “legitimate” celebrity. It no longer stands when we look at the facts. We can not forget that Kim Kardashian’s career is what every reality star has tried to emulate and failed at miserably. So, she’s good at something: branding and monetization.

ALSO THE BIG KICKER: KIM KARDASHIAN HAS BROUGHT HER ENTIRE FAMILY ALONG FOR THE RIDE TO MAKE MILLIONS.

And, Kanye is not broke. He’s HAS debt. That does not mean his “net worth” is in the red.

On a final note: I prefer Kim’s career than Taylor’s. Neither of them are my favorite, but Taylor has always crafted her image around perfection. Kim, is not afraid of controversy. Furthermore, it’s FAR easier to become famous with Taylor’s “innocent ‘all american’ girl” image. Parents eat that up. Kim has an image people have and still “love to hate”. And she’s still going. She’s still taking that to the bank.

      • FingerBinger says:

        @HH
-It’s been proven that most of the 45 million followers aren’t real.
-Her mother parlayed her social media into 50 Millon networth not Kim.
-A lot of celebrities get paid to show up at events. That’s not groundbreaking.

I won’t go point by point but you get the idea.

      • HH says:

@Fingerbinger – I’m not saying that she’s doing groundbreaking things all the way around, but none of that detracts from her celebrity status. Every celebrity has a team of people behind them.

-Actors need directors and a script. In the same way that a good script is nothign without good delivery, its’ vice versa. Good delivery is useless without good scripts, directing, production, etc.
-Singers use writers and a production team. You can have an amazing voice for awful songs (see: a lot of people that haven’t made it.). You can have mediocre or minimal talent and have a great career (see: Britney Spears or Taylor Swfit).
-And any entertainer can stall or ruin their career without the right team of people behind them (publicist, manager, agent, etc)

None of the people in the entertainment industry are islands until themselves.

Sidenote: Have you always had that profile pic? Because it’s phenomenal. I miss that era of TV.

      • Luca76 says:

@HH Taylor made 170 million last year alone so that figure tells you right there who wins between them. Ultimately Kim is someone who is at the mercy of the the publicity machine alone Taylor has the ability to create actual content. She will continue to churn out hits maybe it’s a gift from the devil below but Kim isn’t a match for her long term.

      • HH says:

@Luca76 – I’m not arguing that Taylor is not the higher paid celebrity. I’m disputing the fact that people want to continually discount Kim’s celebrity/fame/career with the “talent” argument. As in, she shouldn’t be where she is because she doesn’t have any talent. But she is famous; she is a well-known celebrity. She is making tens of millions of dollars off of her brand, so there’s only but so much that can be discounted.

Kim has never disputed the fact that people may tire of her. Hence her saturation of the market. She admits to striking while it’s hot.

And for Kim not being on Taylor’s level or a match for her, people sure as hell are looking under every single rock for a reason to defend Taylor. Taylor sure was beside herself about this whole thing. You know what you do if someone is actually a non-factor and/or not a threat? Ignore them.

      • Bluebelle says:

        Imma let you finish… *sigh*

      • Bluebelle says:

This has been my argument from the start. Kim knows she can’t sing and (we all saw her try) act (the same) but she is not telling you she can. She knows that every criticism out there for her is true and she doesn’t try to prove you otherwise. Has she stopped famewhoring? Overexposure? Nudity? Vapidness? Badly dressing? Plastic surgery? NO. She is who she is and will continue until she dies, probably. I hate to love her, I don’t want to but unfortunately I’m drawn like moth to flame.

Taylor is different and it backfired. Nobody is perfect and everyone has bad personality traits, it’s a balance. But when you try to make it seem like you don’t have imperfections, that’s when the vultures try to gnaw at you because you’re being FAKE and naturally they want to expose you. Taylor’s fakeness through the years was bothersome. Her fans don’t see through it and that willful obliviousness is irksome. Yes, Taylor is talented. She has been widely recognized for it, but what some of you fail to understand is that awards and glory do not cancel out bad personality traits. We see it all the time! WHY SHOULD TAYLOR BE THE EXCEPTION?

(Sorry for the wording, English is not my first language)

      • Sarah says:

Luca, lots of talentless hacks had lots of hits and made millions – just means we have bad taste, that’s all.

Taylor is great at branding, and a pretty talentless musician and singer. She’s all Marketing.

      • Luca76 says:

This is just a general response to everyone I don’t know that I’m really defending Taylor more just giving my opinion about the silliness of this whole thing. I’ve been laughing so hard at all the memes and gifs. And as I said earlier (not just after the tapes were released but even before) I always believed Kim was telling the truth. . However I don’t think for one minute that Taylor Swift is really over. I also don’t fail to see that there’s a whole lot of problematic BS coming from everyone involved. So if I don’t take it too seriously I come up with.
        Taylor Swift isn’t really over
Kanye needs to get his head straightened out and start living up to his God given talent
Kardashians are also not over but they are still just Kardashians.

    • Sarah says:

Taylor’s brand is amazing and very strong – good girl, good role model, may have sex, but doesn’t get “dirty.” Never lies.

This does bang up her brand, but her fans and their mothers (!) won’t care. Kanye is a bad man. Bad Man. Racism will have a part in this, too.

    • Elle says:

Yes, West is just hurt that no one cared about his song or faux art video and the rest of the clan is probably mad that Kendall isn’t in the squad any longer. Kris likes to drink with Katy Perry and act like she’s in her 20s, too, so she sicked her PR Cheban trolls on this. Khloe is debasing a young actress with actual talent who has nothing to do with any of this. The Ks lost touch with reality and talent long ago.

  5. Neha says:

I don’t really get how the “search” proves that it was written in February? Isn’t it more likely that she wrote a couple of drafts that night and searched for all that mentioned Kanye? Where are people getting February from? If she really was expecting to be exposed, you would think she would have a statement ready from a publicist, that would come off a lot less juvenile. This seemed like an immediate response to me, TBH.

    • Alex says:

Because if it’s recent the left hand says notes not search. I just wrote a note last night about something else and this morning it still says notes. So it wasn’t something recent

      • Neha says:

If you write a note, then exit out of it and try searching for it, it does show up as “search” even if you just wrote it. It’s only if you click on the note itself, without searching for it that “notes” appears.

    • HH says:

The “February” tweet was a joke by someone. I believe February was when the song/album was being recorded.

  6. Pinky says:

Great article. Taylor’s off her game. Must be all the Hiddledingdong.

    –TheRealPinky

    • Bonzo says:

And Comic Con starts in 3 days!! I can’t wait to see if he gets sh!t for all this while he’s there. I could totally see some outspoken Taylor hater asking him a question that gets him squirming.

Perfect time for him to propose on the beach and steer the convo away from this PR nightmare of hers.

  7. Talie says:

Kim (and by extension — any Kardashian/Jenner) is always going to win if the turf is social media. That’s where they thrive.

    • Amanduh says:

Right?? Accessible, but on their own terms.

      • Amanduh says:

Yikes…just read about the Khloe/Chloe battle and Ms. Kardashians tasteless tweets. I retract my statement as it pertains to
        everyone except Khloe, lol.

  8. HH says:

I still can’t believe the hoops her fans are jumping through to defend her. Taylor does not look good here. PERIOD. And yes, it is TONS worse because she got “out-victimed” by KANYE of all people. But you’ll have to live with it.

    • Margo S. says:

I agree! It’s hilarious that Taylor fans just will not believe this, even though the proof is there! Just goes to show that they will believe their idol at all costs. “It was an actress talking to kanye! Not our tay tay! “

    • KatM says:

Exactly. How can anyone possibly think that she is completely innocent and is being bullied? I am not a fan of the Kardashians at all, but come on, Taylor Swift knew that there would be a song coming out because he told her. If she did not want anything to do with it at all, she should have EXPLICITLY made clear that under no conditions would she approve having her name dropped in any of his music. Now, obviously, he can still use her name in a song any which way he wants, however, she would have been crystal clear about her feelings and none of this would be happening. Let’s not act like Taylor Swift is not maniacally controlling about her image and could not have seen this coming. Please.

      • HH says:

Exactly! And everyone’s argument is that she didn’t approve that specific lyric. Okay, then her FIRST statement should have said that. Instead she tried to act like didn’t know; but then, maybe heard something about; then, did talk to Kanye but not about lyrics; and now, come to find out, she talked to him about the lyrics and SHE GOT THE JOKE, but is now upset about different lyric. Her fans don’t get that no one is saying Taylor doesn’t have right to be upset (if in fact she didn’t approve that one line), they’re saying she manipulated and lied and THAT doesn’t look good.

      • Jwoolman says:

She’s a songwriter herself. Why would she even think she could protest being mentioned in his work? But she does deny that she knew how he was going to say it, in particular the bit about making her famous. That’s what bothers her. The rest does not. Or at least she doesn’t want to admit it does. That’s what her little speech was about, other people taking credit for your success. She would have been wise to stifle herself on that one, but it does show that he pushed her buttons on that specific point.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Because we all know Taylor is good and she is always good and she can’t EVER be bad because she’s a role model! And she doesn’t dress all sexual like those other bad girls! And folks can play her music for these kids without having to pay attention or care!

This is a tough day for them.

      • Sarah says:

        I have a question about Taylor’s career.
I take voice lessons and have been preparing this one song for a recital – for months!! If you watch Michael Jackson’s last video movie, This Is It, even he, one of the most talented singers and dancers on the planet, spent hours and hours going over the tiny little details that make a song sound great live. An inflection here, a sigh there – it all takes time.
So where does Taylor find all the time to be Tiddleshanging?? Doesn’t she have anything going on?? New songs to write?? A concert to prepare for?? How does she have so much time to hang out on Twitter and IG?? Oh, right. She, “talented” Grammy winner that she is, never sings live.
        Never mind.

    • lisa2 says:

I’m not surprised.. reminds me of another fanbase. Even when she caught it becomes about all the other people and how terrible they are.

      PITY PARTIES FOR ALL.

    • jeanpierre says:

And I’m so happy about it.

  9. Eleonor says:

That moment when you out-Regina George at Regina George game.
    Chessmate.

  10. Tiffany says:

I will give props where they are due, kudos Kim Kardashian West.

  11. Stardust says:

I totally believe Taylor. Nobody would approve that song. Nobody.

    • Locke Lamora says:

We’re talking about Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian here. They would have approved of much worse if there was a way to make it play out in their advantage.

    • Val says:

Agreed, I don’t understand why people are so jubilant that it’s fine for misogynistic a-hole to say this type of ish.
I don’t love/hate Taylor (don’t really care tbh), but I can’t stand Kanye and I don’t think this recording proves that she agreed to the whole song and all of the lyrics concerning her.
She does sound awful over the phone though, I would have hung up once she started repeating herself, lol.

      • perplexed says:

“Agreed, I don’t understand why people are so jubilant that it’s fine for misogynistic a-hole to say this type of ish.”

I don’t think anyone is jubilant about it. I think people are wondering why Taylor lied — there was no point to doing so.

  12. Nancy says:

No dignity, no pride. Just a mean girl trying and succeeding to humiliate another woman. Can they do nothing in private. It’s a sordid messy debacle that the Kardashians thrive on. I don’t care for the pretentiousness of Taylor Swift, but if I were forced to take sides, I’d be in her corner.

    • Tiffany says:

So, if the script was flipped would you be saying the same thing about Taylor. Her chickens are coming home to roost. You might not like Kim, but she beat Taylor at her own game.

      • Nancy says:

To be honest I’m not a fan of either. Taylor got outplayed by an expert. Maybe this will show her life isn’t a fairytale like she portrays it to be. In actuality, she will probably get the victim award again, like she always does.

    • lisa2 says:

So when Taylor made her video against Katy
When Taylor gave her impassioned Grammy speech and the millions of people watching knew she was talking about Kanye
When her “Girl Squad” (such a childish thing anyway) come to her defense and “mean girl another woman”

all that is square it is Taylor doing it. And I agree on this. Just added a bit..

“No dignity, no pride. Just a mean girl trying and succeeding to humiliate another woman and a man”

      • Tiffany says:

Yep. When Taylor does crap like this, the other person is to be the mature one and ignore it. This is why she gets away with it.

    • teacakes says:

“Just a mean girl trying and succeeding to humiliate another woman. ”

Oh, you mean like the one who wrote and released an entire song shaming and threatening another woman for dating her ex and all but calling that other woman a slut? Or the one who whined to Vanity Fair about how another pop star committed the cardinal sin of dating an ex-boyfriend she’d broken up with FOUR YEARS ago?

Must be some powerful Kool-Aid she gives y’all. Just admit it, America’s Sweetheart got caught out as a brazen liar, and that too by a Kardashian lol.

      • Nancy says:

She’s not my sweetheart. I guess I think the Kardashians are vile. When that 19 year old actress came to Swift’s defense, Khloezilla posted a pic of the girl in a bikini with her butt hole exposed with some disturbing words from a grown woman. They’re all effen nuts. Hopefully Swift will go into hiding, but now Kim Is in her dream world, queen of the internet. They all suck.

      • Tifygodess24 says:

@nancy and what’s worse is that’s not even her butt , Chloe also came with receipts to prove its not her in that photo. Khloe K still hasn’t even removed it. Classy. This family is the worst.

      • Nancy says:

Tif: I know. They get their panties in a twist if anything is alluded to against them….and then Khloe posts that pic of Chloe, who as you say isn’t even her in the picture. Khloe tries to project herself as a peace lover and uses that baby voice of hers and does something to shame a girl simply because she disagreed with Kim. Worst of the worst. TMZ saying Taylor can bring felony charges against them for recording her without her knowledge. I wish it would simply cease and desist.

      • teacakes says:

@Nancy – you may not like the messenger (hell I certainly don’t) , but the message remains – Taylor Swift is a LIAR.

oh, and that obvious Swifty PR plant in TMZ about being slapped with a felony charge is bull. Kimye were in NY and Swifty was allegedly in Colorado – both are states where only one party has to be privy to the knowledge that a call is being recorded. And that’s in case it’s to be used as evidence in court, not evidence over Snapchat that Taylor Swift lied to make herself look good. Legally, they’re perfectly in the clear for this.

At this point Swifty is just throwing shit at the walls to see what might stick and of course her deluded fans will believe everything that comes out of her mouth or her social media….. even if it proves that she was lying earlier.

      • Nancy says:

teacakes: Yep, her hands were in the cookie jar, busted. What amazes me is that sneaky little Kim (yes I hate the messenger!) had this information all along, when Taylor was reading her pompous little message at the Emmy’s and sat on it until it would coincide with the storyline on her show. This beotch is for real. She will take you down. Unfortunately, for her this is about her only talent, you know, other than that tape she did with RJ….lol

      • Elle says:

Yes, @Nancy. Khloe is the worst. She has to put down a young actress with talent and a career when she can’t even keep a man who is on drugs 24/7 and pukes on plans or ODs in brothels. I’ll cut her a break, though, because she knows she isn’t a genetic Kardashian, but has the name in legal title only, and everyone can tell. Just look at the “throwback” photos. It’s hilarious. She’s blonde and white and a head taller than her “sisters”

  13. Margo S. says:

It’s about time Taylor got called out. All this squad and hiddleson ridiculousness has been painful to watch. She’s a legit liar and Kim called her out. Team kimye!

  14. Gg says:

She was pissed that Hiddleswift was stealing all the celebrity oxygen so she has to jump in front of it all. Still a famewhore. Taylor still making bank, Kanye still not.

  15. boredblond says:

Twitter battles are a K game…it’s their life..this whole thing started long ago when Kanye was trying to steal the spotlight for his ideal woman–Bey..and Kimmee, he’d probably walk over your restructured body if he had a chance with her, so save the war for what’s important..like your sisters’ lips, or extensions

  16. Nene says:

I’m no fan of either one but I’m glad Kim showed the liar Taylor is. *applause for Mrs Kardashian-West.

  17. C says:

For the first time, I love Kim!

  18. Zapp Brannigan says:

Long term how will this affect brand Kimye, will other mid to high tier celebs be reluctant to cuddle up to them? I am thinking of the Legend/Tiegen type of “friendships” Kimye have.

Taylor needs new pr, she was a fool to get involved, she just should have ignored, and ignored again.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Who was cuddling up to them now?

You got a few nobodies and you got John Legend and wife, they were actually in a good position for this since it seems much of the public perception of Taylor was shifting with so many other celebs insinuating about her and then Kim dropping the hammer.

      • Zapp Brannigan says:

I am not thinking in terms of they being shunned but celebs being reluctant in case they are next to be “exposed”

I am thinking Anna Wintour or anyone that has access that is useful for Brand Kimye, how will that shake out.

    • Luca76 says:

Curious to see if Kanye gets an invite to the Met Gala or not next year.

      • pleaseicu says:

Kanye will get an invite. Anna loves him. Kanye got Anna to bend her editorial standards after how many decades to put Kimye on the cover? This won’t be a factor.

      • teacakes says:

Why would he not, though? He’s been a “fashion” person far longer than Swifty, and actually has personal connections to designers. It’s not a coincidence that the model sister only started booking high fashion jobs after Kanye married into their family.

    • Elle says:

It won’t affect them. Kim and Kanye are past their sell date and don’t get the work they used to. Kanye can’t even sell out stadiums anymore. Besides, who wants to associate with Kanye, who has a mental illness, per Rhymefest and others? Of course, not to shame those who have it, but the Kardashians lie about his mental state, just as they did Bruce’s cross dressing until he came out.

  19. Sixer says:

This is all like a Sixerian dystopia. First we have 2.7 Instagrams. Now we have Search and Notes. WHAT DOES THIS EVEN MEAN?

You can tell I only do the Twatter and not the Instaweirdogram, cantcha?

    • BunnyBear says:

Notes is just an app where you can type out text notes and lists. It’s really not that crazy.

    • Bonzo says:

It just means she prepared her response ahead of time and copied it to Instagram.

What stood out to me is that it appears she did it without her PR team scrubbing it first. It sounds rather juvenile and it’s ironic that she’s accusing them of character assassination when she tears down her exes in song and calls their gf “sluts”. Pot calling the kettle, y”know?

      • Erinn says:

I give her some credit for moving past songs like that as she got older. A lot of us said or done some jerky stuff as teens that we wouldn’t say or do now. It wasn’t right of her to do it. But her music isn’t like that now, so I’m taking that as growing past that kind of behavior. The difference is that there doesn’t ever seem to be any evolution with people like the Kardashian’s. Everyone says how stunted Taylor’s maturity is – but the exact same can be said for the Kardashian’s.

      • teacakes says:

@Erinn – Bad Blood came out in, what, 2014? After she admitted that part of her grudge was personal (i.e. Katy dated John Mayer several years after Taylor broke up with him).

That doesn’t sound like “growing past that kind of behaviour” to me.

      • Bonzo says:

Taylor still acts younger than Kim. She hasn’t matured past age she became famous.

  20. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

She really did and for the basic reason that Kim and Taylor play the exact same game. Both thoroughly abuse an image of themselves for the public to devour and then when criticize in any form use legitimate serious topics as a shield to defend themselves.

Ironically for both its been feminism. While Kim’s been dragged plenty of times Taylor has always managed to rely on her “She’s just a poor angel who isn’t calculating at all” persona and with a couple snapchats Kim totally destroyed that.

    • Marty says:

      Totally agree.

Taylor is her own worst enemy. If she didn’t always feel the need to play the perpetual victim she wouldn’t have gotten outplayed by a Kardashian.

  21. LadyAnne says:

Well, whatever Taylor does, I am NEVER going to dislike her as much as I dislike Kim K and her ridiculousness. That dislike has been YEARS in the making.

    • toni says:

The Kuntrashians don’t pretend to be anything else while Miss America is the eternal victim.

      • OhDear says:

Like Lainey said, Tiddles are exactly like Kim and Kanye, just twee.

Tom, you fool, run, run, run!

      • anon123 says:

If somebody is an ass, it doesn’t make it better if they are honest about it. Actually being honest about it indicates lack of remorse and compassion, so it is worse than hiding it.

      • Elle says:

The Kartrashians are ALWAYS pretending they are something other than themselves. That is all their fake “reality” show does. Ask Kris Humphries. Ask Rhymefest about Kanye.

  22. nicole says:

I can’t believe how long this has dragged out. Why didn’t she just show the receipts when this was still a topical thing. I know, I know, to extend it and keep them all relevant, but it seems to me, as someone who doesn’t have strong feelings on any of these people, that this is so far after the fact that it falls flat. It seems like most of the chatter is from people who are already committed to one team or the other and may not be changing minds. I don’t know. I guess I’m posting on it.

    • Luca76 says:

She did it to promote her stupid reality show. At the end of the day everything is for ratings.

    • CornyBlue says:

But why ? Its better now that Taylor has made her Grammy speech and had her entire parade.

      • Lilacflowers says:

The Grammy speech was more than four months ago. Kim could have done this back then when it was relevant. Doing it now coincides with the episode about it on her show and makes it about Kim and not about Kanye or Taylor

  23. Bros says:

man, this is like candy. I can’t stand either of these overexposed talentless twits. The two titans of simulacra going up against on another. And over the soulless end of times medium called social media.

  24. CidySmiley says:

I love it. I love how some of y’all hate Kim and especially Kanye so much that you would try to defend this. Your defenses are not about Tayloe. They’re about Kim and Kanye if this was anyone else… there’s no semantics. She lied. She was caught lying. She’s a known media bully, this was a genius plot on Kim’s part. Taylor probably knew it was coming, that’s why she had the response written up. Of you think Kim and Kanye didn’t already send lawyers poking around… she was given a heads up by 3rd party that this was happening, that’s embarassing. This whole thing is embarassing to her. Hate Kim all you want but she’s never tried to be anything but what she is. She’s never lied about what she stands for or on what side she’s on. Hate Kanye all you want, but he was right, and what’s worse is that … he didn’t have to call her. He could have pulled a classic Eminem and just written her in there anyway, but he decided their relationship was more important and called and she turned around and flopped on him when it got bad reception. She’s the one who looks bad all the way around here. And it’s well deserved, quite frankly.

  25. MI6 says:

Karma, thy name is Kim Kardashian.

  26. CornyBlue says:

Oh my god the thinkpieces have already started.

  27. Soprana says:

Kim missed her true calling as an investigative journalist.

    • me says:

Not really. She knew that call was taped. It wasn’t hard to post it on snapchat. Do you think she didn’t get the idea to do all this from her pr team? Kim does nothing alone. Please. This whole thing makes them all look like Kindergarten kids. They are all pathetic. No one comes out looking good. Kim should spend more time with her kids and less time trying to “expose” Taylor. I mean we all know Kim has MANY skeletons in her closet and is a pathological liar as well. I am sure someone (I’m looking at you Paris Hilon) will cash in on those receipts one day.

  28. Freddy Spaghetti says:

I believed Taylor. I thought Kanye and Kim were both lying. And while I still hate the song’s video, and to be honest, the song, it’s clear Taylor knew Kanye was going to talk about her and then flipped the narrative a bunch of times. Taylor’s brand has been hit hard, and she needs to take that break she talked about toward the end of her tour.

  29. Jwoolman says:

Except Taylor didn’t actually lie. She never denied talking with him and never denied that he ran the gist of the lyric as it stood (he changed it later) past her. She has consistently only objected to the line about Kanye once again claiming he made her famous.

I saw the transcript – she was just trying to be diplomatic and “one of the guys” with him as he chattered aimlessly away. She should have been clearer about how she actually felt, but that’s a mistake women often make with pushy men – they are too subtle and think the message will get across without a sledge hammer. She also was obviously bending over backwards to be respectful of his right to do whatever he damned well pleased as another artist, he was just giving her a heads up that was not required. Plus she was just fielding a random phone call, no indication that he told her he was going to call about that subject. She may not be great at thinking fast. I’m sure she walked away from that conversation thinking she had steered him away from that truly obnoxious part while he walked away thinking “Hey! Anything goes!”.

The one thing that is consistent with her response is that she is aggravated by his periodically claiming he’s responsible for her fame. That’s the only part she complained about in public and that’s the only part her lawyers/PR people mentioned. In one thing she posted, she referred to it as the “that bitch” line, making many people wrongly assume she was complaining about the word bitch. I’m quite sure she just didn’t want to write out the whole stupid phrase “I made that bitch famous”. The other stuff either didn’t bother her or she wanted to appear as though it didn’t bother her (something a lot of women also do around men especially).

The fact is that Kanye and his fans and other people who were not her market weren’t familiar with her until drunken Kanye lurched on stage in 2009 to diminish her award. The same goes for Kanye – people unfamiliar with his work became aware of him because of his drunken antics in 2009, and because of his Kardashian association, and because of his rant on Ellen, etc. So might as well say Taylor or Ellen or Kim made him famous.

Anyway, his “I made her famous” routine is a sign of professional disrespect, and that really gets to her. He’s taking credit for her success. If the shoe were on the other foot, he wouldn’t like it either.

    • Tifygodess24 says:

Great comment. I think your version is closer to the truth and what actually happened. This isn’t as straight forward as everyone is making it. Not to mention the recordings arent the be all, say all. I’m not a fan of Taylor, she is problematic as far as I’m concerned, but this whole thing is really ridiculous. Everyone keeps crying about how Taylor plays the victim- which she does, but I’m sorry Kim has also built a career on playing the victim, rewriting history and lying. Are people losing their minds? Don’t prop Kim K up like some kind of hero because she’s not. The woman was secretly recording someone regardless of what she caught on tape! Hello! But Let this be a lesson to Taylor. Never get too close to or trust dirty dogs, they will always turn on you and give you fleas.

    • teacakes says:

if mental gymnastics was an Olympic sport, Swifties would have those Rio gold medals on lock.

  30. Apples says:

    Wow. Kim is a shark.

  31. Esti says:

I’m not a fan of any of these people, but I am 100% with Kim here. And while she clearly timed this roll out for max publicity, I do think Kanye was legit hurt by what Taylor did and Kim got into this fight because of that.

I mean, look at this from Kanye’s perspective: whatever you think of the guy, and however much the original falling out with Taylor was his own doing, it seems like he was really trying to do the right thing here initially. They buried the hatchet and now that it was resolved he wanted to make a reference to her/that beef in his song, and instead of just going ahead with it like pretty much all artists do, he made a point of calling Taylor and saying “hey, I wanted to make this reference in my song, it’s not meant to be a dig at you, and I want to make sure you’re cool with it, so here are the lyrics I’m thinking of using.” As Taylor herself said in that video, that’s an unusual thing for a songwriter to do. He gets a response that was basically “that’s so nice of you to ask, I know this is all in fun, any of the lyrics you want to use are cool with me.” Based on that, he obviously thinks things are fine and goes ahead with the lyrics, and then as soon as the song comes out Taylor makes a big public show of condemning him for using the lyrics and says he never cleared ANY lyrics with her or asked for ANY permission, which is a straight up lie.

Maybe you think Kanye’s an ass and the word bitch is misogynist and the lyrics are vile. But the whole point of him calling her was to give her a chance to tell him if she felt that way. She didn’t. In private she said it was all good, and then when he relied on that and released the song suddenly she was publicly dragging him and pretending he had never asked her about it. That’s just a shitty thing to do.

If the problem was really just the phrase “that bitch”, then she could and should have said that. “Kanye and I talked and I knew he would be referencing me, but I didn’t realize he would be using the phrase “that bitch”. I was cool with being included and the rest of the phrasing, but I do wish I’d known that because I do find that particular phrase problematic.” Easy. Even better, she could have done him the courtesy of talking to him directly, the way he did with her, if there was really a miscommunication and she was upset about that specific phrase.

But instead she decided to capitalize on some public criticism of the inclusion of her generally, and more specifically of some portions of the lyric that he DID clear with her (the part about making her famous), and in doing so she very deliberately and clearly lied about what happened. There’s no argument to be made about that, no matter how much you hate Kanye and/or like her. She said he didn’t clear the lyrics with her, and he did. She said she took issue with the made her famous part, but she told him privately she was fine with it.

Like I said, that’s just a shitty thing to do, and I’m not surprised Kanye and by extension Kim are upset about it. He went out of his way to make sure she was okay with her inclusion (something Taylor certainly doesn’t do when she writes songs about easily identifiable people, including an actress she sang about only getting parts by spreading her legs on a mattress), and she made nice to his face privately and then publicly lied and attacked him. She deserves to be called out for that. And that’s true whether or not the lyric is in fact objectionable, or whether or not Kim and Kanye are gross generally, and whether or not the Kardashians are (naturally) now using this to promote themselves. None of that makes Taylor’s actions here okay.

    • KJ says:

Amen. Kimye disgust me, but Taylor’s actions here are indefensible.

    • teacakes says:

Same here. I despise the Kardashians as much as anyone else, but I’m not going to dismiss the message just because of the messenger.

Taylor Swift is a liar, and of course she’s going to bounce back from this since her fanbase will believe it even if she says the earth is flat, and she can just block media outlets that don’t kiss her ass. But yeah, the victim act isn’t going to work as well anymore.

      • Katherine says:

        My sentiments exactly.

Here’s the thing. Considering how much Taylor’s lied about this entire situation and the fact that her story keeps changing, it’s really hard to believe she’s genuinely upset about anything. The only thing she’s upset about is that she got caught in a lie, so now she’s trying to cover her a** with a lie on top of a lie. She’s just making matters worse for herself though, if you ask me. Her lies caught up with her, and she’s embarrassed. Suddenly, that whole “good girl” and “perpetual victim” act is taking a real hit.

Taylor hates that she couldn’t control this situation by keeping Kim from releasing the evidence. She couldn’t control Calvin either and prevent him from speaking up about her. He wasn’t going to let her disparage him with more of her games, which really put a thorn in her side. Taylor is just as fake and manipulative as anyone else, but she likes to pretend that she’s not. She has this obsessive need for control and playing the victim constantly. And, so she’s just mad that she’s been called out and exposed. Her goody two-shoes act isn’t going to work as well anymore.

    • sunny says:

This is the best summation of the situation I have seen. I agree 100%.

    • Bonzo says:

Well said Esti. Taylor’s actions ARE indefensible, regardless of what we think of Kim and Kanye. The way she attacked him publicly and tried to play the victim card again deserves to be called out.

    • Tara says:

@Esti: agreed. I feel really schooled about Taylor. Her general credibility takes a hit here IMO. And Twiddleston isn’t my business, but if I were Tom, I think I’d quietly be inching away. Twee is one thing; that level of disingenuous is another.

    • Katherine says:

Perfectly said, I honestly have nothing to add. This is exactly how I feel as well.

  32. naomipaige says:

I hope Taylor sues the pants off them. The whole K family including Kanye are pure trash!

    • teacakes says:

If she wants to sue, she shouldn’t have lied lol.

It really has to burn that a Kardashian was the one to rumble her victim act, but rumbled she is. She’s gone from ‘Taylor warned him about the misogynistic message of the song’ to claiming that her problem was with the word ‘bitch’…… too bad the fact that she was singing a very different tune in February is so publicly on record!

      • Katherine says:

        Bingo, you nailed it. LOL

We’re talking about Swifty here though, don’t underestimate her. She’s a pro at playing the victim/martyr, she’s still doing it now by claiming this is “character assassination.” lmao I wouldn’t put it past her to try and sue over being recorded without consent. However, the tape was recorded in New York, not California. That’s a one-party consent state.

  33. Pmnichols says:

Kim called Taylor out. Boom. The truth hurts. Next.

  34. KOri says:

Who the hell really cares? I don’t mean this group because it’s a gossip site and that’s what we come here for. But the LEVEL of reaction on twitter, complete with hashtags and then threats/nasty comments to celebrities depending on whose ‘side’ they’re on (Pharrell and Zendaya and Selena Gomez got dragged by fans of the differing parties for liking tweets–not even posting themselves–and subsequently unliked the tweets). What the hell is this level of response? It really shouldn’t go beyond some humorous posts on gossip sites like this one. It’s gotten way out of proportion. But maybe I’m just sensitive because I’m an American living in Belgium who in the last year has been vacationing in Paris and Nice and flying out of our airport here. I LOVE some good gossip to take my mind off real world events–but that’s the point of importance it should be given–fun gossip, not worthy of attacks on bystanders on twitter or op-ed pages. Some people act like Kim’s ‘revelation’ was akin to WikiLeaks exposes.

    • Luca76 says:

Yup it was amusing. Taylor should’ve got dragged for her lie but she isn’t over. Kim is still Kim. Kanye is still crazy ass Kanye and everyone with half a brain knew that Taylor is Regina George and????

    • K.C. says:

I agree. The over-the-top celebration of Taylor being “exposed” complete with hashtags and Twitter fights is rather insane. It’s GREAT celebrity drama (this is the Summer of Swifty), but every reaction to her lately has been so blown out of proportion to what actually happened.

I get that it is Taylor, Kim, and Kanye, the Queens and King of tabloids. But good grief. This is a crazy reaction.

  35. swak says:

Why do I feel like I’m in the middle of Jr. High drama. Both are at fault. TS should have owned what she said on the phone call from the beginning and Kimye needs to let it go. Neither of them look good in all this.

    • Snowflake says:

This! One puts on a sexy image, the other a good girl image. But they both play up a perception of themselves. Neither is totally what they pretend to be. But I think Taylor is better at playing the good girl. Kim’s never been sexy to me, IMO, she rode the coattails of Paris’s popularity. But she doesn’t pull off the sexy act, to me anyway, while Taylor has pulled off her act for a lot longer. And they are both fame hungry and petty.

  36. Katherine says:

I stand corrected, since I really thought Kim was lying. Now, I’m loving the fact that Taylor’s brand and carefully manufactured public image has been tarnished. She deserves it, that girl acts like she’s still a pre-teen in junior high. But really, all three of them are pathetic and fame hungry. I can’t stand any of them. Kim and Kanye may be more offensive, but in this case I’m glad the video was posted. Taylor plays the perpetual victim, acting like she’s all sweet and innocent, when she’s not. She’s just as fake and manipulative as they are, they’re all cut from the same cloth. I’m just happy she was exposed. lol Taylor’s such a massive liar who plays the martyr all the time. At least, Kim isn’t acting like some innocent little flower who’s always wronged by men and making a career out of her breakups. lmao

  37. serena says:

Mmm interesting, I think Taylor was fine with the it until someone maybe said ‘your fans could have a bad opinion about you (approving )’ and then she changed her mind, thus the story we know.

  38. Chauncy says:

Don’t believe for one second that Kim came up with the “Expose Taylor Swift” plan on her own. She most definitely had help from her marketing team and attorney.

  39. terese says:

L2TP: But that Daily Beast article is a good read.

    2 things it breaks down:
1 the initial issue Taylor had when she said she was blindsided was she had no clue of song. Then she had an issue with sleeping with Kanye Lyric.
2 her issue now has changed significantly, its now that bitch.
That bitch which Taylor has used in her own lyrics to describe people she didn’t like. That Bitch in Kanye’s is not used in that way at all.
Also, he broke down lyric lines and title of the song… There’s things to hate about Kanye, but this just confirms Taylor is not only a liar but a manipulator and untrustworthy in business. Not cunning. but a traitor. The call wasn’t a shit show, it was a nice call and her first statement was I HAD NO IDEA. Yeah you did. And you twisted the truth. His song wasn’t meant for throwing Taylor under the bus… which she’s done several times.
Thing is: Taylor has created an atmosphere with SO many people she’s played victim to… you can’t say its everyone else’s fault.
After awhile you have to see the wolf in sheeps clothing
