Double standard? Miss Rhode Island has topless, racy photos too

brandnewspics-451

Some of the conservative outlets who have been defending Carrie Prejean through her scandal-plagued month are calling foul. As it turns out, Miss Rhode Island (a.k.a. Alysha Castonguay) also posed for topless “racy” photos before she entered the state and national pageants. Critics are claiming it is a double standard for Carrie Prejean to potentially loose her crown and face endless condemnation for her topless pics, when barely anyone has said anything about Miss Rhode Island. These critics point to one thing – Carrie Prejean’s answer to the gay marriage question. They claim that the pageant committee and the liberal gay-marriage-loving media/public/internet all have an ax to grind with Carrie, and we’re all using the topless photos as a way to destroy her.

Here’s the thing – Miss Rhode Island did full disclosure with her topless photos. Alysha posed in some sexy photos for Maxim before she entered the pageant, and she gave the pageant committee the photos to review before she was allowed to enter. Carrie Prejean did no such thing – in fact, the Miss California pageant committee claims that Carrie not only violated her contract by not doing full disclosure of her topless photos, but she has continually lied about the circumstances and the number of topless photo shoots she participated in:

While racy photos of Miss California Carrie Prejean could cost the outspoken first runner up in the Miss USA pageant her crown, pageant officials don’t seem to care about even steamier photos of Miss Rhode Island that appeared in a men’s magazine.

So is Prejean being targeted simply for her beliefs?

As Prejean has kept busy making appearances with groups opposed to same-sex marriage, officials at the Miss California USA organization have been investigating whether she violated her contract by failing to reveal that she had posed in her underwear as a teenager.

Meanwhile 2009 Miss Rhode Island Alysha Castonguay has also posed in revealing photo shoots, but is apparently not in danger of losing her crown.

Castonguay posed topless for a Maxim magazine shoot and a few swimsuit calendars before competing in the pageant, but reportedly revealed the pictures to Miss USA officials, who approved them.

Castonguay even told gossip site TMZ that she felt Prejean was being targeted simply because she answered her pageant question by saying she favored limiting marriage to a man and a woman.

“I personally believe this situation is stemming from the controversy over her opinion and not a photo,” Castonguay said.

Officials from the Miss Rhode Island USA organization were not immediately available for comment Monday.

The final decision over whether she will keep her crown will be reached Tuesday.

[From Fox News]

I’m not so blindly liberal that I can’t see that many, many people are simply pissed at Carrie Prejean for her anti-gay marriage stance, or her conservative views in general. Carrie has a right to her opinions, she has a right to any political stance she wants. And, by the way, if she didn’t want to become the face of the anti-gay marriage movement, she shouldn’t have signed up to be a spokesperson for the National Organization for Marriage, and given all of those interviews. Part of being a spokesperson is taking the heat and answering the questions posed to you. All of this is why she’s being criticized by the pageant committee – because she violated her contract many times over, not just because of her politics.

If it’s true that she gave full disclosure PRIOR to entering, than no, it’s not a double standard at all because it’s not the nudity, it’s the nudity without telling anyone about it that could’ve potentially gotten her into some trouble (as we all know by now however, Trump didn’t take her crown away).

Let’s please stop giving these hate-mongers a larger platform to speak from.

  2. duh says:

the issue with the pageant people, as Annie said, was non-disclosure of the pictures and the continuous lies about the circumstances. she violated her contract, Miss RI did not.

the issue with the public is her hypocrisy. two different things.

If Miss RI was acting all pious and talking about her Christianity and living Biblically, I’d think she was a hypocrite, too.

  3. Liz Conley says:

It is basically the same thing! The only reason that Prejean is getting so much publicity over it- is because the gay people are so mad about her HONEST HEARTFELT response. I thought that these contestants were not supposed to be Robbots- if they want robbots, then it should be called the “mindless” Miss USA contest! I think Trump did the right thing! Go Miss Prejean! They just can’t take NO for an answer!

  4. manda says:

omg, Kaiser, no you did not really say “loose her crown”, did you? Please tell me a typo. Of all the typos out there, this one gets me the most.

Does anyone else think that pageants don’t really have a place in today’s society? I just feel like they’re really old fashioned, but at the same time, the contestants are totally judged on their appearance, so why is it such a shocker that any of them modeled nude in the past?

  5. OXA says:

The Donald has made his own pageant look as ridiculous as his hair.

  6. Amazed says:

Why is it that just because she has an opinion that is not politically correct in todays climate, that she is such a bad person. People give me a break. There are people out there who don’t agree with homosexuality. I happen to be one of them. I will fight to the death to preserve everyone’s rights and do not think that homosexuals should be discriminated against. However, this is not discrimination. I don’t care what you think. Marriage should be between a man and a woman. If two men or two women want to be together, then more power to them. Call it what you want, but it ain’t marriage. Get over it already.

  7. Colleen says:

No, I’m sorry she may have the right to that opinion, but in my mind what she said is tantamount to getting up there and saying blacks and whites can’t marry. It is the SAME THING. She holds a horrible, homophobic belief that we can only hope will quickly become as antiquated as the racist beliefs now only held by crazy fringe groups.

  8. Jenna says:

At this point I don’t even know if I want to go back and forth on this decision of losing crowns and showing some skin.

  9. CC says:

This is what happened, Donald Trump wanted a scandal to boost ratings and he payed that Queer Perez Hilton to ask a heated question to a contestant that was payed to make a hypocritical comment to stir up ratings and controversey;. It’s a scheme people. Gay people,, everyone falls for it everytime.
Donald Trump, Perez Hilton, Miss California, and The Miss USA Organization profits.

The people of the United States and the Gays and Lesbians don’t.

  10. Katharine Jaynes says:

I bet a lot of these women have topless photos around if you dig deep enough. Vanessa Williams famously lost her crown for something similar. I think when you have a beauty pagent situation, most of these women have been taught from a young age that they can make money off their appearance. The natural progression would be to model in photo shoots for money… and some will inevitably take their clothes off and make money off their bodies.

  11. Annie says:

Vanessa Williams famously lost her crown for something similar.

Yup. And it wasn’t due to some “supposed” underlying reason regarding her “political views”.

@Liz Conley, you have no idea what you’re talking about. Get off it. If you’ve read any of the many many responses on this blog regarding Prejean, you will see that our issue was never with what she said, but initially with HOW she said it, and then proceeded to advertise it to anyone who would listen, all the while touting her christian morals, but then she would parade around half naked and lie, lie, lie.

It’s the hypocrisy that really goads us. Not her ignorance (though it’s becoming a close second.)

  12. CC says:

Manda..I agree with you.. I think there is a small limited place in society for them, but I don’t think it should be on CNN or that Donald Trump should be holding a press conference over this. Pageants are really old fashion. But, I’m not in the least bit shocked that there are scantily clad photos of contestants or even nude photos. I didn’t think that mattered for at least the last 5 years, Or at least since Donald Trump took over.

  13. duh says:

“There are people out there who don’t agree with homosexuality. I happen to be one of them. I will fight to the death to preserve everyone’s rights and do not think that homosexuals should be discriminated against.”

said in the same breath as

“Marriage should be between a man and a woman.”

then you DO believe in discrimination against homosexuals because they are being denied a right that is granted to others.

  14. Sauronsarmy says:

I can’t wait til we go back to never hearing or CARING about Beauty Pageants.

  15. EduBois says:

Why do people care about this antiquated trash? In 2009, this is it? Please. But I guess ladies, should be concerned with beauty queens and what Michelle Obama wears to floss her teeth.

I find this whole subject depressing.

  16. rbsesq says:

    Liz Conley- What’s a robbot?

  17. daisy424 says:

@Annie, what do you mean our issue? That’s your issue, not mine. You’re assuming everyone that posts on this site agrees with you. You did something similar to another poster on a prior thread of Prejean.
You need to get over it.

  18. Annie says:

Oh, I’d never blanket you into this. And I didn’t say EVERYONE. I said “many many many responses” which can refer to the many responses made by the same people on various threads. I don’t assume everyone agrees with me, in fact, you make it a point not to on every occasion you get. Shall I post links to this? Since you’re so fond of that.

Funny how you accused me once of purposefully moving to attack you and then you respond like that…

    Oh man. You’re classic.

Yes please, keep defending the person who is calling them “robbots”.

  19. duh says:

daisy, I think what Annie was saying that the people that DID have an issue with Prejean (using “we” as she was one of them) were upset not about what she said, but the hypocrisy surrounding it.

I don’t think she meant “we” as in EVERYone on this site, just the “we” that had the issue.

  20. Valensi says:

Some people are pissed cos she doesn’t believe in gay marriage. I don’t really like how they’re saying that her anger is justified cos she’s a hypocrite (which she is.)
I’m sick of these random, trashy people in the media degrading Christianity by posing with their Bibles or whatever and then posing topless for the whole world to see (-cough- Heidi.)
    FAIL.

  21. Hieronymus Grexx says:

No wonder we can’t find a cure for cancer when we’re still living in the Bronze age looking for Vestal Virgins to appease the gods (The first true beauty pageants in history- read a book.)

  22. hatsumomo says:

I like the way amazed put it. Its something you feel is right for you but if it is right for someone else, then let them do their thing.
And honestly I cant stand to hear all these attacks on Christianity just because it doesn’t fit someones agenda. Do I believe in God? Yes. Do I believe in Same sex “marriages”? No. Do I believe in equal rights and Civil unions? Yes. I was raised to believe that marriage was a religious commitment to your partner, And most gays renounce God anyways. Perez hilton doesn’t have faith. Elton John and my manager at the restaurant I work at don’t believe in marriage. He is gay and in a civil union.

  23. Hieronymus Grexx says:

And most gays renounce God anyways.

According to whom? H*ate Weekly? Fox News?? Perez Hilton doesn’t speak for all gays, you ignorant dipsh*it!

  24. Annie says:

    ^Second Hieronymus Grexx’s response.

Gays do not renounce God and it shows just what kind of person you truly are by saying that.

  25. Hieronymus Grexx says:

I apologize for the use of the word dipsh_t, but otherwise I stand by my outrage, disgust and annoyance.

  26. HashBrowns says:

The problem, hatsumomo, is that marriage in this country whether you like it or not, is a civil institution. You have to go get a marriage license from the state in order for your religious ceremony to be recognized by the state and federal government. You can do ceremonies in your own church until the cows come home but you won’t be married according to the state. Everyone has to go down to the courthouse and get a marriage license, which is a completely secular, civil document.

So it really doesn’t matter if anyone was raised to believe that marriage is a religious institution because in this country, it isn’t. Period.

  28. Blackring7 says:

Gosh, I can’t escape from newsfeed about Carrie… she is EVERYWHERE.

I was hoping that this story had run its course, but sadly, I’m not that lucky.

  29. eternalcanadian says:

definitely a double standard coz if new jersey has naked pictures then she should also lose her crown.

  30. Rose says:

“I like the way amazed put it. Its something you feel is right for you but if it is right for someone else, then let them do their thing.
And honestly I cant stand to hear all these attacks on Christianity just because it doesn’t fit someones agenda. Do I believe in God? Yes. Do I believe in Same sex “marriages”? Perez hilton doesn’t have faith. Elton John and my manager at the restaurant I work at don’t believe in marriage. He is gay and in a civil union.”

First of all there is no evidence for a god or gods, but ample evidence for gay people, so on the whole I’d say gay rights trumps the whims of an invisiable deity. Secondly, the way you were raised doesn’t factor into civil law. Thirdly, please cite where you learned most gays renounce god. Fourthly, Perez Hilton or your manager is not the spokesperson for gays, and fifth, being a bigot and hiding behind a religion to do so is disgusting, no matter how you dress it up.

  31. barneslr says:

“then you DO believe in discrimination against homosexuals because they are being denied a right that is granted to others.”

And so does the President of the United states. I presume you are against Obama now, since he has publicly stated his opposition to gay marriage, right? I mean, you aren’t a hypocrite, are you?

  32. duh says:

don’t know what Obama has to do with this…

but, to answer your question, NO, I’m not “against” Obama now. because, unlike YOU apparently, I don’t base my support of a politician on his stance on ONE topic.

  33. Codzilla says:

duh: Barnes’ point is that for all the crap you’re dumping on this Prejean woman, it seems you’re giving Obama a free pass in regards to this particular issue. He’s also opposed to this basic human right, correct?

  34. barneslr says:

I’m just saying that while this girl stating an unpopular opinion has turned into a media firestorm, complete with MSNBC “pundits” saying some incredibly hateful, ugly, inappropriate and unprofessional things about her because of it…Obama has stated the same exact opinion and no one has said a peep about it. Where is the moral outrage? Where is the righteous indignation?

Why is it okay for the PRESIDENT to say it, but this 21 year old says it and all of a sudden she is attacked viciously by the media (and by some of the posters on this board, as well)?

Surely you can see the double standard. If the opinion that gay marriage is wrong and outrageous, then it is wrong an outrageous when ANYONE says it. And it should be even more so when a powerful politician says it, since that person can actually DO something about it.

It’s the hypocrisy that galls me.

  35. duh says:

“all this crap”? ONE post about how it’s two different issues (the pageant folks vs. the public) is “all this crap”?

yeah, he’s opposed to gay marriage, and I disagree with that stance, but it doesn’t mean I don’t support him in other ways. how exactly am I giving him a “free pass” on this?

my issue with Ms. Prejean is NOT her stance on gay marriage. she’s entitled to it. it’s her hypocrisy on the “do as I say not as I do” way she lives her life. To add, I don’t see President Obama strutting around a stage in a tiny bikini and taking semi-nude pictures while also espousing the “moral” way he lives his life.

  36. duh says:

to add, while Obama doesn’t believe in same sex MARRIAGE, he does believe in civil unions.

while this may not satisfy everyone, it’s a step in the right direction. at least he believes that a same sex couple should have the same rights that a married couple has…medical, tax, etc. Does Ms. Prejean believe in civil unions?

also, Obama doesn’t think it should be up to the feds…he thinks that individual states should determine whether or not same sex couples can marry.

what’s that? a politician who thinks the fed should stay out of states’ business? limited interference from the fed gov? sounds like something a true conservative would embrace.

  37. Annie says:

I should also note that Obama found Prop 8 to be unnecessary because he believes that the Constitution (of any State) is meant to GRANT rights, not take them away. He said that specifically.

Also from his site, it clearly states: Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples. Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage: Barack Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006

Etc. Etc. And for the snarky asses who just LOOOVE links, here you go: change . gov/agenda/civil_rights_agenda/

I don’t agree with his stance, but he’s also not the spokesperson for a group whose entire intent is to rob the LGBT community of basic human rights.

  38. barneslr says:

“I don’t agree with his stance, but he’s also not the spokesperson for a group whose entire intent is to rob the LGBT community of basic human rights.”

You are right. He is only the most powerful human being on the planet right now. And he has espoused the EXACT opinion that you claim to oppose. But he’s not he villain to you; it’s some rather powerless group that is merely exercising their own right to believe as they do, and to speak out about it. They may LOBBY for a certain agenda, but they don’t have any real power. Obama HAS the power, and he agrees with them-yet you don’t find that alarming in the least.

Your refusal to see your own illogic is absolutely and stunningly astounding.

  39. Codzilla says:

duh: I was referring to all the negative posts/threads about Prejean thus far, not just your comments. Sorry, I should have been more clear.

Annie: Was that “snarky asses” remark aimed at me? I don’t even recall addressing you on this thread, so I’m not sure what that’s all about.

  40. daisy424 says:

No Codzilla, sweet Annie meant me.
She refuses to see her hypocracy. Remember talking about this before where the words smug/contradiction was used?
I could run circles, but would rather play Free Cell or pick up dog shit in the back yard.

@Barneslr, you should join us on FB.

  41. Not amazed says:

    To: Amazed

An opinion can not be incorrect, because it is just that an opinion.

  42. hatsumomo says:

Sorry for disagreeing with you Hieronymus Grexx but I that is my Opinion and I dont think that makes me a dipshit for having one. Just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t make you right. And by the way, I do believe in Equal rights for everyone, gay or straight. I’m not “hiding” behind what I believe in, merely standing up for it.
Regardless of whether Perez Hilton represents gays, a lot of ppl listen to him whether you admit it or not. he is one of the most featured persons when airing opions of gay issues. I didn’t say he represents all gays, because everyone is different, but he does get the most visibility.

  43. hatsumomo says:

and Rose, And who says gay ppl don’t exist? that’s a stupid comment. But I do believe in the Lord and just because your attacking me on a celebrity site isn’t going to change my mind. That would make me spineless. But I do have a thing called Faith. Its the ability to believe in something with out proof, Which apparently, you don’t have much of.

  44. Codzilla says:

daisy: Gotcha. And I don’t blame you — these threads are pointless.

  45. Rose says:

“But I do believe in the Lord and just because your attacking me on a celebrity site isn’t going to change my mind. That would make me spineless. But I do have a thing called Faith. Its the ability to believe in something with out proof, Which apparently, you don’t have much of.”

I didn’t ‘attack’ you at all, merely pointed out the illogical stance you have taken, like using your anecdotal story to disprove gays want marriage. And you’re absolutely right, I don’t have ‘faith’ in things I have no proof of, that would not make sense to me. But you are entitled to your faith as long as it does not impinge on the rights of others.

  46. barneslr says:
