Kylie Jenner went from platinum blonde to ‘rose gold’: awesome or sad?

Rose Gold

A photo posted by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Over the past few years, it feels like “rose gold” is the color du jour. It keeps popping up everywhere, from electronics to jewelry to clothing and now to hair color. Kylie “Wig Starter” Jenner has debuted a new hair color on her Instagram: Rose Gold. That’s what she’s calling it. And I think I sort of agree? Kylie is a natural brunette who has been “platinum blonde” for several months. I honestly thought she was wearing wigs – since she “started wigs,” remember – this whole time. But maybe she really did go platinum blonde. And now she’s added a layer of pale pink to the blonde, and the result is… rose gold.

So here’s what I think… it actually looks kind of great? Granted, Kylie looks like a 40-year-old woman trying to achieve the perfect “sex doll” look through a mountain of plastic surgery. Granted, I think all of Kylie’s hair changes are diversions from all of her monthly surgeries. Granted, much of what Kylie does these days could be described as “cries for help.” All that being said, the rose-gold look is surprisingly awesome. It’s younger and fresher than the white-blonde she was doing, which made her look like a Hollywood madam.

Also: This is a new nose, right?

    It’s a beautiful color.

    • sherry says:

I agree! My 19 year old daughter sent me the photo on Instagram yesterday and said, “I don’t like Kylie, but I love this color!”

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I think the range of pinks looks wonderful on quite young women. My 18 year old is toying with the idea, but it’s quite the harsh process, and a costly upkeep.

New nose, and did she always have such a cleft in her chin? I don’t think so… so new chin, too?

      • Bobo says:

        She’s morphing into Michael Jackson.

      • AnnaKist says:

Oooo, I had to go back and look, NSSB. That cleft is quite pronounced. It does look like a new chin. Wow.

      • Payapa says:

@bobo, I actually think she is slowly morphing into Blac Chyna. That’s the vibe I got looking at her instagram feeds, and her bottom lip looks so swollen, she actually seems in pain when she tries to talk.

      • nikko says:

Her whole face is new…I think she’s trying to look like Kim. Kiley never was a pretty girl. I don’t understand why someone her age has had so much work done on her face and body. That’s not her hair..it’s a wig.

      • librakitty says:

@nikko she probably has this much work done because people were constantly saying she wasn’t pretty? I don’t know. Just a though.

    • Megan says:

I was just in Tehran and this color is really popular there right now. It’s really striking in person.

      • Val says:

Oh cool! Iran is on top of my list of places to go! How was it?

Kylie has been trying very hard to become Middle-Eastern… from jacking the make-up, to eating pomegranates every day hoping it’ll change her from the inside.

    • Janet R says:

It is such a pretty color. And she looks very good in that picture, except for the doll face aspect.

    • teacakes says:

It’s a lovely colour but I honestly think Sienna Miller (the original trend starter) wore it better, it looks a lot better without the instagram thot makeup.

  2. Kitten says:

JFC. What did she do to her face now? Nose job?

I want to say something snarky but I just feel sorry for her. I can’t imagine being addicted to plastic surgery at such a young age…

    • Nancy says:

Who nose? Lol. Yeah that’s a new honker, it’s pointing upwards, ha. She had to do something to take some attention away from Kim. I personally would rather have rose gold as jewelry as opposed to my hair color….but I’m not cool like the Kyles….

      • Kitten says:

Yep. Has the ski slope thing happening. Sigh.

      • Marlene says:

How long does it take to ‘get a new nose’ – like, for how long does it need to heal before it’s impossible to tell? (If people didn’t know the before nose, obviously).

        Just curious. 🙂

      • AnnaKist says:

Her nose looks awful and throws her whole face out.

      • kellybean says:

This is to Marlene. I couldn’t respond directly to your post. I haven’t had a nose job but have watched MANY shows on plastic surgery and they always say it can take 6 months to a year for all the swelling to do down and to see the true results.

      • Marlene says:

        Kellybean,

Thank you. I thought the recovery was ~14 days at the very minimum, depending on much “remodelling” is done, obviously. I don’t understand how she can get something like that done (if…) in a matter of days with no signs of the procedure apart from the nose shape. (Personally I have no idea what she looked like last week, so I don’t see it myself).

      • Val says:

There are types of non-invasive nose jobs!

    • Ivy says:

I feel like there’s a difference between being addicted to plastic surgery and then just getting some plastic surgery… she’s obv had lipo and butt implants as well as lip injections and facial fillers. But as long as she’s doing it safely and not for negative reasons I don’t see anything wrong with it.

      • Kitten says:

But she’s SO YOUNG. She’s gotten a LOT done, you know? Maybe she’s not “addicted” but from an outsider looking in, it sure seems like it.

      • HH says:

But there is also something to be said for all of this being done prior to her turning 18. I’m pretty sure it started around 16. Yes, it’s been little tweaks here and there, but over a very SHORT time frame (which to make shouts addiction). This also means that she had at least one parent that signed off on this, instead of saying “Listen, you’re beautiful as you are. However, if you want work done, you’ll have to wait until you can legally do it yourself. I’m not signing off on this for 16 year old.” Which for me, is very sad.

      • jwoolman says:

She’s not even finished growing yet, that’s why it’s so sad. I think it’s unethical for the doctor doing it. She should have been referred to therapy to deal with her self-image problems instead.

        Kim started very young also.

      • Nancy says:

Ivy she’s a teenager. She doesn’t even resemble the girl she was a year ago. She was talking about her sister’s and mother’s boob and nose jobs when she was a tween on that show. They all change body parts as easily as their clothes. I find it offensive that these privileged brats flaunt their “beauty” as if it is God given. She is sending a horrible message to young girls watching, wishing they had the money to buy a new face and body as their idol. Disturbing.

      • serena says:

really? she completely changed her face AND body, she looks like another person compared to her old self. But aside from that, the surgeries/fillers/whatever it is she did to her face messed her up.. look at her grinning.. it’s almost scary.

      • Sea Dragon says:

ITA. Teens don’t often realize that body proportions change once they get a little older. Clothes fit differently on the hips, any extra weight can shift, etc. Kylie has no idea. She’s altering what she believes will be her adult form. I’ve never seen so many artificial modifications on an 18 year old. I’m very curious to see how this will play out.

    • HH says:

      Agreed, she makes me sad.

Also, the plastic look is such a… LA/Hollywood look. I think she would look odd anywhere else in the U.S. And that much makeup looks incredibly uncomfortable to wear on a daily basis. But then again, I’ve never been a big makeup wearer.

      • Kitten says:

Oh precisely. Like most excessive plastic surgery, she’s effectively erased all the features that made her special 🙁

      • Marlene says:

The coat is probably just as uncomfortable as the makeup – judging by the pool not being frozen solid.

        🙂

    • MinnFinn says:

+1 I saw a short video recently where someone asked her about her style. She has zero sense of self. Her answer was gibberish about whether her style was more like Kim or Khloe’s. There should be a wholesome family style retreat with inhouse foster parents and also grandparents who are pragmatic and tough-loving in idk Iowa farm country where kids like her who were messed up by their celebrity parents can go to be re-parented.

      • MoreSalt says:

My Grandma wanted to do this with Lilo when she went off the rails. “You bring that poor girl here and we will get her straightened out. I bet she’s never mowed a lawn in her life.”

      • MinnFinn says:

Mow the lawn – LOL! Your granny is quintessential salt-of-the-earth.

    • Anilehcim says:

Right?! My first thought upon seeing that first picture was “Who is that?” looks nothing like her. I agree that she’s addicted to plastic surgery and it is tragic.

    • annaloo. says:

Sadly, I follow Kylie on Snapchat. It’s mundane and she never has anything profound to say but she’s somewhat engaging bc she’s so open, and who doesn’t want to see how the rich live? Plus, I like her dogs. It’s not a new nose job — unless she’s found a way to go through 3 months of recovery in 16 hours, bandages and all. But it is a fun thing to say about her.

I tend to give her the benefit of the doubt on things.. I think our of all the Kardashians, she’s probably the one to keep an eye on… in a good way. She’s not even 21, she’s watched her sisters in this fame game and grew up in front of cameras — she’s molded herself (literally) for a purpose, and with it, achieved d a quick and phenomenal success. She will probably freak out 7 years later, and we’ll read the tell all. However, as much as I want to bc she goes against a lot of what I stand for, I don’t hate her. If there’s anything for me to hate, it’s the fact that I feed their fame and give them staying power…

      • Anthi says:

God I feel exactly the same way about her. I also hold hope that maybe in a few years she might mature in unexpected ways and surprise us all (positively). I like the colour though and I don’t think changing your hair during your 20’s is a cry for help. It’ s called experimentation and it is normal. Me and most of my friends changed haircuts and corours 100 times during that period, let’s not blow everything out of proportion.

    • Erinn says:

I’m on the ‘she makes me feel sad’ train too.

Honestly – she’s a cute girl. I like the hair color. I like when you can see her freckles through her makeup. I am pro-cleft chin as someone with a ‘butt chin’, but I hadn’t really noticed it on her before – the shadowing in the photo brings it out more.

I’m of the opinion that someone should be able to wear as much or little makeup as they want if it makes them happy. She’s clearly had work done, but she also does her makeup in a way that makes it more glaringly obvious.

But I think with Kylie – a lot of this stuff DOES make her happy – but it seems like she just puts so much energy into not looking like herself that you have to wonder how happy she really is. I’m easy on her and Kendall. I have a soft spot for them. People were always going to be harsh towards them based on their family – but at the same time, because of their family they’ve been failed. They had too much freedom far too young, and I think it’s kind of a case of them being a good deal younger than the other siblings, that they acted a lot older to fit in, and the parents suck, so it made their life easier to just let it happen and let them do their own thing. It’s a lot easier to say “yeah whatever, go do x with your sisters” than it is to say “oh, wait… you’re only 14, you can’t do that. Stay home and study”. It meshed with Kris/Caitlin’s life easier to let them do anything they wanted instead of parenting them.

      • babyneutral says:

im not too sure those are her “natural” freckles. right now it’s really a trendy thing to wear fake freckles. just look on instagram or youtube there are loads of tutorials that have popped up in the last month or so. just look up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MB98BB1iCM
if anyone remembers this girl.. justin biebers “it” girl for all of 5 mintues

      • WeAreAllMadeOfStars says:

If you look back to pics when she and her sister were kids, like 2008, you will see them with freckles. Unless they were already drawing them on back then too lol.

    • Little Darling says:

I just feel sorry for her too. I look at her and my heart hurts at her loss of childhood, at her feeling like she wasn’t gorgeous enough with her old face. Everything about her face looks gorgeous, twisted and painful. Everything about her poses and instagram show a vapid girl who hasn’t been taught that she’s worth anything beyond her looks. That freaking breaks my heart.

      • Macheath says:

I don’t know she had nose surgery, I think she may have fillers in her nose though. They create that similar raised bridge, ski slope effect.

  3. Amelia says:

    Cute colour.
But good God does my heart ache for this girl. She never stood a chance growing up in the surroundings she was exposed to.
There was precisely nothing wrong with the face she was born with but now she looks like a waxwork figure in the bottom picture. Hopefully it’s just a ton of photoshop blurring her skin like that . . .

    • detritus says:

Can you imagine your parents letting you ‘fix’ every teenage insecurity you had?
Where your older sisters had already done so much work to look a specific way? You’d feel like an outsider for NOT doing anything.

The freckles picture, are those the only thing left from original Kylie? They look so cute, but out of place, with the rest of the makeup.

  4. Ivy says:

I don’t think it’s a new nose. It’s just contouring. If she had had a nose job she would have been away from the spotlight for a few days after it healed and she hasn’t done that – she’s been on Snapchat and such consistently. Her hair looks great. She’s had fillers in her face. But her lips look completely ridiculous.

    • serena says:

It could have been botox or something else, doesn’t change the fact that her nose looks different -again-.

    • Val says:

She didn’t post on social media for a few days following Kim’s attack…

  5. doofus says:

the first pic looks like it could be a wig, but the “new nose” pic makes it look real.

and yes, that IS a new nose.

  6. iGotNothin says:

    Wig

  7. Hannah says:

A new “look at me please” hair color.

  8. Micki says:

    Neither colour suits her IMO.

  9. Tifzlan says:

She looks like a plastic blowup doll with fried hair and dead eyes. It’s actually really creepy.

    • Lovisa_L says:

I thought that second pic was one of those lifelike dolls (realgirls?) that certain men like to order off the internet. It’s really creepy. And really sad.

  10. HK9 says:

Sad that this girl is so busy trying to be something else that we’ll never see the beauty that’s uniquely hers.

  11. Lightpurple says:

    Strawberry blonde

  12. MinnFinn says:

Her hair looks like my blonde Barbie after I tried to make her a redhead with red magic marker and then tried to wash it out.

  13. NAT says:

She will have to bear the consequences of all this plastic that she’s filling her body up with. Either her lips will explode one day or her body will just start to mutilate .
And the worst of it all is that when you look at her social media, all these young girls want to look just like her and consider her perfection?

  14. Arpeggi says:

It’s a great color, I love it. One of my good friend dyed her hair in a similar shade recently and I think it’s really pretty. But darn! I can’t help but feel sad looking at her: some Stepford wives were looking more human/natural than she does in those pics! And it’s not do much the looks (you do you after all), but the fact that it seems that the only value she can give herself is from being objectified. There’s nothing wrong at wanting attention or wanting to be desired, but it shouldn’t be all we aspire to be. Poor kid!

  15. Wilma says:

That is some incredibly flattering natural light she has there. Is it sunrise or sunset?

  16. Anilehcim says:

That top picture doesn’t even look like her. I feel like the blonde really showcased the amount of work that she’s had done. I like the rose gold color, but I think she looks pretty bad these days. I’m not trying to be cruel, but she truly looks about 40 at this point, and I always thought she was cute before she had the work done.

Some downsides of the Kardashian fame: Kim’s horrible robbery, and Kylie’s entire life, which is tragic because she’s never known anything other than living in a fish bowl where the only thing that matters is what she looks like. She has a ton of material stuff and money for a 19-year-old, but it really is an empty life.

  17. smcollins says:

She looks like a wax figure or a mannequin in that last photo, not an actual live human. So sad that this girl’s self esteem & self worth is so non-existent that its led her to do this to herself. I feel sorry for her.

  18. serena says:

Yup, it looks like a new nose. It is sad, but what’s even worse is that even her changing hair colour becomes news (granted, she doesn’t do much besides that, but .. ).

  19. anonymous says:

    she gives me creepy vibes

  20. Bobo says:

She’s had another nose job. I want to know how someone suddenly pops up with a new nose? She is constantly getting photographed. You would think she would have to hide away for a while to let it heal???

  21. Becki says:

this color has been on Pinterest for awhile. She did not come up with it, however, I LOVE it and would want to try it out on myself. I love all things rose gold!!!

  22. amadabasura says:

It looks like a bad home dye job from the 80’s.

  23. Kate #2 says:

I think it’s just the shadow, her nose doesn’t look like that on her snap chat. Loving that rose gold color though

  24. KiddVicious says:

It’s a cute nose and fits her face. Lets hope she stops with that and doesn’t end up with Kim or Caitlyn’s too skinny nose. And I remember seeing a slight cleft chin when she was younger, before all of the plastic surgery, maybe she’s just enhanced it more? It looks good, but I’m a sucker for a cleft chin. I have a slight one and I always thought that if I were to ever get plastic surgery I’d enhance it. But in reality the bags under my eyes would get top priority at this point. LOL

The hair color is just meh to me. I don’t hate it, but I don’t think it’s great either.

  25. Cee says:

Am I the only one who is over the overly done eyebrow trend? they look ridiculous.

    Yes, that’s a new nose.

  26. Drama4evah says:

I’m sorry but this hair color is terrible.
    Her look is terrible.
Someone needs to do an intervention stat!
She went from a sweet looking teen to a 40 something housewife looking for her next 70 something sugar daddy to pay for the next round of Botox.

  27. Lotta says:

Actually like the nose, it’s like a swedish little nose with a tip at the end, so I’m used to those noses (I’m swedish, but my nose is straight except from a small bumb from when I broke it one time).

    I like the hair too.

  28. Carmen says:

I’m meh on the hair color. She should stick to jet black or blue-black.

  29. prissa says:

    She is SO overdone… 🙁

  30. Eric says:

“I will NOT be overshadowed by that lying half-sister of mine and her illegitimate robbery story!”
    #rosegold
    #robberysnobbery
    #ilooklikeabetterversionofyou

  31. laur says:

The colour makes her look younger than the blonde which can only be a good thing. But she just doesn’t look REAL. Pretty, but just not real, and nothing like her original face. Sad.

  32. minx says:

    Sad, very sad.

  33. Jasmine says:

Love the color. The young woman, needs help. I wish there was a way to make idolizing her not happen. She doesn’t look real. Her face, does Not Look Real. And its really very sad. One day she’ll be 40. I wonder how she’ll feel about these choices? Seriously you’d hope one day she’ll have someone around her who loves her enough that she’ll start loving herself more.

  34. Freyja says:

Love her hair color, but she really needs to stop f–king with her face

  35. Veronica says:

I think it looks better than the platinum did on her. Since she insists on being so tan, the warmer tone works with her skin.

  36. raincoaster says:

It’s a beautiful colour that gets a ton of compliments (speaking from personal experience) but a) it does NOT go with a tan, particularly a fake one b) you can get it a lot cheaper by using basically any colour of blue from Manic Panic and letting it fade. For whatever reason, their blues fade to pink. Hell if I know why. Then the pink hangs around FOREVER.

  37. Hanna says:

She looks now like a Croatian blogger Ella Dvornik, but unlike Kylie Ella is very unique and interesting young lady.

  38. teacakes says:

Sienna Miller wore it better tbqh.

Which is NOT something I ever thought I’d say!

  39. Kate says:

Kylie just strikes me as confused, and maybe a little lost in the chaos of her own family.
