Duchess Kate in an Erdem Resort coat in Manchester: fug, dated or fine?

wenn29676467

Usually, when I don’t care for something the Duchess of Cambridge wears, I still understand why she chose it. Like, Kate’s style (as it is) isn’t my cup of tea, but at this point in my coverage of her sartorial choices, I can tell when a certain look is “Kate-approved.” She loves a full skirt, preferably made of light material that flies up at a moment’s notice. She loves lace, of good and bad quality. She loves very delicate-looking patterns. She loves theme-dressing for different occasions and events. She loves a nautical look. She loves shades of blue, likely to match her sapphire jewelry. But knowing what I know about Kate’s style, I can’t explain this fug coat. It breaks the mold of what I’ve come to expect from her. It seems like something a FLOTUS would have worn in 1977.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are spending the day in Manchester today. One of their big stops is to the National Football Museum, because William is president of the Football Association (although he does next to nothing for that patronage). They have three other stops besides the “fun” football museum gig. For the outing, Kate chose this Erdem Resort 2016 coat which is… really, really bad. Kate has worn Erdem pieces before, to mixed results, and I don’t think it’s a good collaboration at all. With someone as coat-obsessed as Kate, I would think that she would wear more Burberry, but here we are. This coat is perhaps one of the ugliest things she’s ever worn. I can’t even find something nice to say about it! She’s also wearing a vintage (lace) blouse underneath.

Meanwhile, William did a solo event last night in London. He attended a reception for The Kennedy Memorial Trust at Buckingham Place. I didn’t know this was a thing, and I’m pleasantly surprised that it is. The Kennedy Memorial Trust is for the upkeep on the British memorial for John F. Kennedy in Runnymede. Queen Elizabeth herself opened the memorial in 1965, and now William is attending fundraisers for the memorial. Go here to read more.

Something nice: her hair looks pretty here. This is a new style for her.

I love it, and her shoes and hair and everything. She looks really soft, elegant.

    • Mltpsych says:

      I totally agree, I think it’s beautiful

    • Squiggles says:

Me too! If it were affordable, I would get one for me.

      • Rianic says:

Google Kate’s Closet. The blogger finds similar items at an affordable price. She’s pretty good at it.

      • Squiggles says:

Thanks Rianic! I bookmarked the site and will be stalking it to see if something pops up.

    • Locke Lamora says:

Yeah, I love everything about this look.

    • Zimmerman says:

When I first saw it, it reminded me of tie-dye and I hated it, but on video, it looked decent to me. Definitely out of character though.

    • Georgia says:

I like the whole outfit as well. I would definitely buy the coat if I had the dough.

    • Scal says:

Thank goodness it’s not just me. I love it.

    • jdiz says:

Me too! I love it. Duchess need to work on her posture!

    • Azurea says:

Fantastic look from head to toe. She looks appropriate, polished & sophisticated.

    • INeedANap says:

It’s one of the few things she’s worn that I straight up covet. It’s also one of the most professional looks she’s ever worn. I hope this is a harbinger of a style evolution.

    • Imqrious2 says:

I love this whole look! Well done!

    • seesittellsit says:

Totes agree. Looks grownup without being dowdy.

      • Jamie LAWRENCE says:

        OMG totes!
Yaaasss, I love this coat, it’s kind of Betsey Johnson meets Chanel.
        Loves!!!

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Yeah, I do too, and I’m SO not a plaid lover in general, especially in coats. But I do love the fabric of this coat (so rich looking) and the upper half of it, though I think a slight A-line might have given it a more flattering overall effect. And her hair looks wonderful this way –it’s the perfect compromise between the look of a dignified Royal and Kate’s love of wearing her hair down in a more informal style.

    • Kori says:

I love it too. Lol I thought it was going to get a thumbs up. Whoops.

    • Sunsetsnow says:

Oh, no! I hate to say this…it’s killing me…I like it!

    • North of Boston says:

I’m late to the party, I know. But I really like it.

It fits her well, and is tailored to flatter. The collar is nicely proportioned, And the colors are not dreary. I bet it has pockets too, or she can cojole Erdem into adding them. Plus the lacy top under the blazery top keeps it from being too stodgy.

Seriously, if she worked with her wardrobe people to get 6 different versions of this in similar cuts, but maybe different patterns and fabrics, it could be the basis of her “go to” style. As long as her accessory game was strong, with beautiful shoes, purses and jewelry, and if they mixed up the skirt length based on the event and jacket proportions, she would be good to go.

    • lana86 says:

      i would totally wear that

  2. BitsandPizzas says:

    I think it’s beautiful.

  3. lala says:

new engagement = new outfit. Kate seams to be a true shopaholic. With no taste, I have to admit.

  4. Lorelai says:

What is with the earrings? She literally has the Crown Jewels at her disposal, and she’s wearing faux pearls??

  5. Lucy says:

An acquaintance of mine, who has an amazing, if slightly eccentric, sense of fashion (added to the personality to wear it well), is completely obsessed with Kate’s style, for some reason. I don’t get it. Her own style is on a completely different level, yet she loves and wishes she owned some of Kate’s looks. To each their own, I guess?

  6. Adele Dazeem says:

She must have gotten a clothing allowance increase from Chuck. LOTS of new designer pieces as of late and very few repeats.

Makes me wonder if those rumors of “talks” about her short skirts, hair issues, etc weren’t just rumor or fan fiction.

    • Kitty says:

Does he get tax cuts or expenses by giving Kate an allowance?

    • Kitty says:

      What does that mean Imqrious2?

    • Kenya says:

I think she is going seriously gray and anyone notice that she has been lightening her hair to be more reddish than dark brown?

Her hair upkeep must be insanely complex! Hence why Normal bill complained her hair is a nightmare.

But I prefer this ponytail to wiglet.

      • LAK says:

She’s been grey since 2012. Not just the odd strand here or there, premature grey. During one of her pregnancies ( i think) her hair was half up and half down which gave away her grey roots.

        http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/02/18/25CD398300000578-2958779-image-a-242_1424280646610.jpg

Her hair colour maintenance bill is insane because she has to do her roots very couple of weeks to keep on top of the grey roots.

I prefer her hair to wiglet. It’s so much nicer as you can see above.

      • Kori says:

I have very dark hair and have been going a more reddish brown for years because of grey and will probably go lighter because it’s pretty bad now. Root care is a major pain and I don’t even have to keep on mine as much as she would.

      • mbh says:

She’s still wearing the extensions even when her hair is back. I don’t think we’ve seen Kate without those top extensions in place, for years. The extensions ,wiglet are still there in place on the back top part of her head. You can see the ridge if you look closely. It’s why that hair looks so helmet like on back top of her head all the time, She can’t part it where those extensions are attached.

        Nice coat.
But she is so thin, she looks frail to me, her posture looks like her back his curving.

      • teacakes says:

@Kenya – dark hair loses pigment as we age, and not just to white – my hair was blue-black but in my later twenties, it started lightening to a dark brownish-black (I can tell in sunlight).

It’s possible Kate’s hair (which was brown anyway) is doing something similar and the colorist is working with the new reddish tones in her hair.

  7. iseepinkelefants says:

I love the pattern but I don’t love the way it’s cut in the front. It would look better if it went straight across instead of lapeled.

Although how this pattern could be considered “resort” is beyond me. I guess only in Britain would you wear heavy wool? Or maybe my concept of resort is just off (the period when you need summerish clothes for St. Bart’s in December).

The reddish brown hair color on her is not good.

    • Blue says:

I love the pattern but not the cut as well. The waist is too high as well.

      But, she looks lovely overall.

  8. anna says:

her posture is the worst. damn it girl, stand up straight. do it for the monarchy!

  9. Sixer says:

Here’s a nice story for you, Kaiser. Did you know that the Magna Carta memorial at Runnymede here was paid for by the American Bar Association? A picture:

    http://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/01/26/47/1264723_df00907a.jpg

    • notasugarhere says:

Nice! I was also a bit cheered by the BBC story on the re-enactment of part of the Battle of Hastings. 950 years ago today. Not Prince John related obviously, but some UK history to take minds off of Brexit, Marmite Wars, and the nightmare of US elections.

  10. Merritt says:

I have mixed feelings about the coat. But I do like her hair worn this way.

    • detritus says:

By mixed do you mean you hate it? Because I do not like that print. I LOATHE that print.
Hair is nice though, this is true.

    • Citresse says:

Kate changed her hair a bit later during the appearance… she pulled out the ponytail…. was it to please William?…. who knows, but anyway, her hairs seems to have grown quite a bit since she tried the gringe look.
It’s kind of unusual to change a hairstyle mid- way through an official appearance but I suppose it could have been worse…at least she didn’t put on a stripey top, jeggings and wedges.

      • Lorelai says:

I was wondering if that was planned? It is weird to change it mid-day. I thought maybe her ponytail sort of fell apart…

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

She’s done it before – gone from hair down to ponytail and vice versa.

  11. Tila says:

I took an early lunch and waited outside the football museum to catch a glimpse. She is prettier then what I was expected and the coat looked great. She looked very regal.

    • INeedANap says:

I’ve always wondered if regal is just shorthand for “tall” when it comes to her.

      • Tila says:

Don’t get me wrong, she’s super skinny but still just had a natural elegance. I’m indifferent towards her but was curious to see what she actually looked like whilst she was in my neck of the woods.

    • Citresse says:

It’s nice to hear from people who’ve seen her in person. It seems Kate is not photogenic based on so many comments saying she’s quite lovely in person. But then some people say her skin doesn’t look so great in person.
I saw HM in person in Calgary, AB many years ago and noted she wore a lot of make up.

      • Evelyn says:

@Citresse- that could be either subjective or Jason’s bots 😉
I have seen her twice- once at a public engagement & once in a shop when she was doing her favorite thing -‘shopping’…& she has really bad skin & while she i moderately good looking she also looked atleast 10 years older than her reported age.

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

A lot of public figures wear heavy make up if they are going to be photographed out and about in public so thats it looks better on the photo. I’ve also seen her in person and thought ‘the makeup looks thick’ but when you look at the photo’s it looks fine. Although her bad skin could also be the reason why she wears it so thick. She is prettier in person.

      • Evelyn says:

        unphotoshopped but with makeup http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/10/14/13/3961ADAA00000578-3837931-image-a-88_1476447072093.jpg

but she is pretty in pictures Than in person – as I said its subjective 🙂

    • Tessy says:

She also looks different on TV than still pictures too. I watched the welcoming ceremony to the Canadian visit, expecting grimaces and crazy grins, but she looked lovely on TV. I think some people post the most unflattering photos because they just don’t like her.

I like her look today, coat and hair. She looks good.

  12. Amber says:

How does anyone like this coat? If it were wool, sure. It looks crazy cheap to me:. I do like the fit. Also, hairstyle is nice, hair color is too light. I prefer her hair darker. I’m grumpy today. Something nice-I actually like these suede pumps she’s been wearing lately!

    • Kate says:

I was seriously thinking the same thing – how can anyone like this coat?? Cheap material, terrible pattern, and the way it’s styled makes it even worse. Those fake gaudy earrings too. If they’re that big then they need to be real. Ugh. I actually quite like her hair like this though.

The hard truth is that Kate is just not naturally stylish. She should fix that by hiring someone to do it for her.

      • Icejoey says:

‘The hard truth is that Kate is just not naturally stylish. She should fix that by hiring someone to do it for her.’ THIS!

    • Amber says:

I’m going to do this in all caps bc I need to know: DO PEOPLE THINK THIS IS WOOL?!?? There are NO fuzzies, this is a flat material with a terrible FAUX PLAID pattern. It’s like a horrible Fashion Bug coat. Please help me.

      • Citresse says:

When people say “they’re not naturally stylish” I think it’s just a matter of being born with gravitas. Diana had it but Kate doesn’t. Diana, when she first arrived on the scene was young, inexperienced, nervous etc but she still had gravitas.
It’s like when people say a person could wear a burlap sack and still look elegant, it’s gravitas shining through.

      • Citresse says:

ps… and I would say Carole Middleton has gravitas.

    • Lorelai says:

I agree about both the hair color and the shoes : )

    • Janetdr says:

It is hideous! The stripes make it look like a sweatercoat, I had one in the 70s and it was a fiercely bad look. I realize it’s not a sweater coat but still recoiling in horror.

  13. Kitty says:

What’s shocking is to find that only school children were there. The crowds are small to seem them in each engagement. What’s up with that?
Also, Katw has no creativity with her style. She is so boring.
One last thing, William and Kate to me look as if they don’t enjoy doing charity work and Royal duties and just do it because they have to and not from the goodness of their heart.

    • Sarah says:

The crowds are getting smaller and smaller because the shine is starting to wear off Kate. We all now know that nothing exciting will happen when Kate makes an appearance, and we also know that she is not likely to have any meaningful conversations with people in the crowds. She mostly just goes straight from her car to inside the venue, with maybe a small wave. I like Kate, but I know for most people the curiosity has worn off and they just don’t care.

      • Kitty says:

Also with William. Why do I have a weird feeling they won’t become King and Queen?

      • Joannie says:

Its wishful thinking on your part Kitty or so it seems from your numerous comments. They are highly popular due to their youth and ability to relate to a younger gerneration. In fact they are gaining in popularity. I repeat they were hugely popular in British Columbia where they chose to go to the poorest parts of Vancouver and meet with the disadvantaged versus more visible and more popular locations. This won the heart of many in particular because they treated those they met with great respect. Due to my job i was able to see Kate in person. She’s far prettier in person and her skin is quite nice actually.

      • Citresse says:

Joannie, how does William look in person? I would guess he looks good.

      • A says:

I honestly, sincerely and highly doubt that William will not inherit the throne. I really do. It would be an enormous constitutional crisis for all sixteen realms that currently regard the monarch as their head of state. I absolutely do not think that Charles, who is likely going to be facing enormous challenges to his reign as it is, would ever risk destabilizing the monarchy’s standing even further by attempting to disinherit William without an incredibly good justification. He would really have to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that William is unfit to rule in some fashion, and he would have to convince not just the British parliament, but also those of all sixteen other countries, to see it his way. That process could take months, if not years, and that’s only if William himself doesn’t actively challenge his own deposition from the line. And that’s also not accounting for the fact that William has an heir and a spare already, both of whom are below the age of majority, whose statuses would also have to be sorted out post William losing his place. If they get to keep their place in the line of succession while Willy does not, then there is a very good chance that George could inherit while still being too young to rule, in which case you’d have to account for a contingency plan by way of a regency. Considering the vast majority of regents usually wind up being a parent (typically the mother), what would even be the point? And if they lose their place in the line of succession along with Willy, you’re likely looking at some enormous backlash on the part of the people, who probably wouldn’t be happy about three or more individuals all being removed from the line of succession in one fell swoop for a no good reason. And that’s just one aspect of a much larger and potential reaction. All in all, trying to forcibly remove someone without their consent is an enormously sticky situation, and I absolutely do not think that Charles, when he inherits, would even attempt it since he’d probably have enough on his plate as it is.

If people don’t want Willy to be king, the only way that could happen at this point is if Willy either abdicates when he inherits the throne, or takes himself (and possibly his whole family) out of the line of succession on his own. I would have thought this possibility was quite likely a few years ago, before the birth of George, but I think after having two kids and weighing his options, he’s really not going to do something to upset his life after having settled down. He’s probably not happy about this situation, but he dug that grave, so he might as well lie in it now. He should have given up his succession rights years ago, which I think was probably his plan, but likely either didn’t bother, or thought he could do it at any time, or just didn’t care enough to plan something like that out.

      • A says:

Okay, whoops. I have to add a correction to my comment above. When it comes down to making a change in the line of succession, the monarch themselves do not have the legal ability to make such an amendment. As in, the Queen can’t personally take steps to kick Charles out of the line for the throne, and Charles can’t take the steps to kick William out of the line for the throne. The monarch does not have that power.

The only way to make an individual ineligible to inherit the throne would be if they converted to Catholicism, married without the monarch’s permission, abdicates after assuming the throne, or was forced to give up their rights via an act of parliament (which would still have to be ratified by all 16 countries). And the last is only if there is a serious, serious incident regarding the person in question (as in, they commit a crime or are somehow judged completely unfit to rule). Sadly, I don’t think Will just not doing enough somehow fits that requirement. So my original point still stands.

      • Nic919 says:

The commonwealth countries outside of the UK could easily turf the British monarchy as head of state. Australia has threatened it and Canada has them as pure symbols as it is. The other countries also have similar set ups. The Queen and her family rarely visit and somehow Canada and Australia manage to go about their business as countries without their input or visits.
Once the Queen passes there will be strong movements to cut the ties because Charles is not popular. They aren’t going to wait for William to inherit anything but will move prior to then. Will and Kate are in for a rude awakening. Charles seems to sense the potential trouble but those two are oblivious. They are more entrenched in UK culture but not so much with the other commonwealth countries.

      • Kitty says:

@Nic919, well is that another reason why Harry has been doing a lot of royal duties?

      • Nic919 says:

Harry was popular when he came to Toronto for Invictus, but since he isn’t in line for anything I doubt it will make a difference for commonwealth countries. It might for the UK though.

      • Kitty says:

        @Nic919, I disagree.

      • Lorelai says:

A, thank you for all this! I learned a lot from your comments, and sadly, I agree with you.

While we see “abject laziness and apathy” as a valid reason for W not to rule, truthfully he hasn’t done anything “bad” enough to warrant action.

    • Kitty says:

@A anything is possible. Don’t forget that.

  14. Millie says:

The coat is beautiful. One of the rare pieces that she’s worn that I love.

  15. notasugarhere says:

Another day, another ugly new outfit. Erdem coats cost upwards of £2,500 and this one is custom, adding even more to the bill.

  16. Digital unicorn (aka Betti) says:

I likey this look, very professional looking. She’s finally dressing to suit her status. However these rikishi of end of year events only serve to up their numbers not to serve their causes.

  17. Angel says:

    Love the coat:)
The shoes don’t go and the lace top underneath is so bad but love the coat.

  18. Guesto says:

I love the coat. The only bum note is the fussy lace top. Something plain that picked up one of the colours in the coat – the blue perhaps – would have polished the look.

But yeah, that coat is gorgeous.

  19. Meow says:

I just realised who she reminds me of – a dowdy shy version of Jenna Coleman. It’s the upturned nose.

  20. Gippy says:

I like the coat, but I love how she has her hair! She needs to wear it in a pony more often.

  21. vava says:

    UGH.

That posture is the worst. Makes my back ache just looking at her.

The hairstyle would work better if there wasn’t a huge collar back there, but it looks like a helmet, so Ugh to that too.

The coat. The fabric might have some potential, but the styling by Erdem is really ugly. That empire waist band – no. It looks like something my 85 year old aunt would wear, because she’d accessorize it just the way Kate did. UGH Kate dresses like an old classy lady.

Her makeup makes her look tired. Guess she is still exhausted from her short trip to The Netherlands?

    • lala says:

For someone who spends many hours per week practicing yoga and completing strength workouts, such a posture is actually pretty bad

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

I don’t know if she does yoga but she spends a lot of time with a personal trainer but either way she should have a better posture as its key to a good workout programme.

  22. Citresse says:

I like the outfit,… it’s a different look and she looks good. From the DM photos, William’s suit looks good… his pants look longer, not the skinny leg.. it’s quite an improvement.

  23. OTHER RENEE says:

    Love the whole look.

  24. Kaz says:

Like the coat the shoes and especially the neat hair. A solid colour underneath instead of lace would have given it more definition.
I HATE the way she clutches the clutch. Would it be terrible if she had a smart handbag, you know, something with a handle? There are such cool bags and shoes around, and I think clutches look awkward – better keep cute shiny ones for the evening.

  25. magz says:

I wish she didn’t protect her crotch all the time. I hate that posture on her, she hunches over and is a beacon on insecurity. So much potential, if she just worked on correcting her posture.

  26. Jessica says:

    Awful coat.

  27. bucketbot says:

It is a nice look. Not for everyone but it looks good on her.

I’m pretty sure this whole makeover is the work of the Queen’s “dresser for Kate” on the Queen’s insistence. So much decent fashion since the Canada tour. Love it. Hats Off to him.

  28. NeoCleo says:

I LOVE that coat. I don’t always like what she is wearing but her coat game is usually dead on.

  29. MoreSalt says:

I would’ve gone with different shoes, but I love the look. She’s had a retro vibe lately that I think really works, still classic and proper but with some fun details that keep it from getting (as) boring (as she usually dresses.)

  30. hey-ya says:

…she looks amazing here…the coat, the lippy, the shoes, the coat, the hair….officially beyond crticism….except dare I say…its just all a little too expensive…

  31. perplexed says:

She looks good here. I still wouldn’t take her seriously though.

  32. KiddVicious says:

That’s an Emily Gilmore outfit. She had one similar, just different color. Rory also had a jacket like it that was worn a few times that same season. It was ugly, that’s why I remember.

  33. Ven83 says:

It’s an unfortunate pattern for her skinny/athletic frame, it makes her look boxy and shapeless. The super high waist is ridiculous, it’s basically cut under her boobs. With the lacy black blouse peeking out the whole look is way too busy. Too many colours and patterns happening at the same time. You need confidence to pull that off, and her body language suggests she’s anything but confident. I sympathise with her as I have no sense of style either when it comes to dressing myself, some people are just made that way. But unlike me she has the option to get a stylist – ideally one that doesn’t hate her.

  34. Nico says:

Since everyone talks about how William and Kate will be future King and Queen but at the same time they don’t believe the monarchy will survive, my question is how relevant are the Cambridges? I know it’s an election year so the world’s eyes will be on the US but in any other year, how much does the world pay attention to the royal family? Are they super important? Someone tell me all the things.

    • Kitty says:

I don’t think so. The only time they get worldwide news is a Royal baby. The Royal family will never have the charisma and star power Diana had.

    • graymatters says:

      Joannie,
I watched the clip which spoke of the value of the Cambridge visit to Sheway. I think it’s wonderful that their decision to visit and their attentiveness to the “clients” (I don’t know what word to best describe the women benefitting from the charity) was so well received. In part, though, that highlights the frustration people often have of the royal couple. Wasn’t this the charity where William admitted he hadn’t read his briefing notes? Imagine how much more effective they could be if they were better prepared, for instance.

      • Joannie says:

I dont think it would have made a difference whether he read the notes or not (which was blown waaay out of proportion) its how they made these women feel and the attention drawn to She-way. That’s what important. They chose to visit places that are considered the poor part of town and places that reallly need the support. It made a tremendous impact. Those women felt respected and special. Notes would to have prepared William for the reality of that place. He was so sweet with the babies and the way he interacted with everyone.

Did the royal couple donate any of their own money to these causes that were supposedly important to them? They do live in castles and palaces after all. I didn’t see the name of any of the places mentioned that much in the Canadian or international press so outside of talking about Kate’s outfits, their visit made a few people feel good short term, but long term it will have zero effect on helping the places that they visited actually get more funding and be sustainable long term.

THEY ARE WORKING SO HARD LATELY!! The poor dears, they simply must be exhausted. And who is watching the CHILDREN??? I hope they are planning for a REAL vacation without having to visit pesky peasants.

I love the way she always poses with her hand over her chest. Yes Waity, we know you have Big Blue.

And did she really pull the ponytail out of her hair? I used to do that after a few hours. When I was 6 years old.

Also….the black lace blouse looks stupid with that suit. Both are hideous. And I hate the blue shoes.

    • Lorelai says:

@Tough Cookie, everything about this comment made me laugh 🙂

    • Soothsayer says:

Smh At the comments here sometimes. On the Canadian tour, people were posting that from here out they would be on a big holiday. Now they clearly aren’t, people are still finding something to criticise. So predictable and boring.

    • cindyp says:

Too funny! That coat is hideous, way too much going on with the pattern & the cut. Hate the suede shoes. At least her hair is contained but the color & highlights are not flattering. Very hard for anyone to wear auburn shades unless you’re naturally ginger.

  36. Shirleygail says:

Does she wear anything under the dress coats, do we know? Do the coats come with a silk sheath or something? The black seems jarring under the coat; maybe if she’d worn black shoes to sort of tie everything together? Not a fashionista, but I like a look to look co-ordinated and planned, at the least. I struggle to wear necklaces though, so generally keep it to scarves. Now they are going out of fashion, I’m going to be retro forever!

  37. Wren33 says:

Reminds me of the pattern on Michelle Obama’s dress when she gave her speech.

  38. Cerys says:

I don’t like the coat at all. I can’t believe she has yet another new outfit for one of her few engagements. She has enough coats so she should be using some of her existing ones. The lace patch showing at the neck of the coat looks ridiculous.
On a positive note, her hair was nice and no nude heels. I envy her being able to wear huge heels all day. My feet get sore just looking at them. Lol

  39. L84Tea says:

It looks like a dark coat that someone stenciled or painted on. Very strange.

  40. PHAKSI says:

I dont mind the coat. Ive seen worse on her. She looks pretty on these pics, her hair looks perfect. Not matronly and not childish ringlets

  41. Starlight says:

The blue clutch she doesn’t get it right spends loads and by wearing one item with the main show piece she looks less than wow factor

  42. ClaireB says:

I liked the coat when I thought it was a Chanel-like tweed. When I realized it was a smooth print… ugh. Beyond that all I have are the usual critiques of her posture and her use of wiglets.

  43. Evelyn says:

Her earring s are fake pearls but they are Oscar de la Renta! Why wear such expensive(and ugly) fake jewellery… I think at this point she just spends money to spend it and not for quality or attractiveness of the product!

  44. BTownGirl says:

I thought I was the only one wondering why she never chooses from Burberry’s approximately 9.472 gorgeous coats!! Also, Fendi. Girl, call Fendi or Burberry and get you a coat that doesn’t look like a Forever 21 interpretation of Chanel. In general though, I’m grateful we’ve gone what must be a record stretch of time without any biscuit flashes .

    • Lorelai says:

I always wonder why she doesn’t wear more Burberry coats. I think she wore one, once, ever – and it was gorgeous – and she never wore it again. I would have an entire rotation if I was her!

  45. Llamas says:

I clicked on that link not knowing it would bring me back to that monstrosity. My family had curtains that looked like that when I was younger. They looked outdated and horrible 20 years ago. Those curtains were better than that dress thing.

  46. Sequinedheart says:

I love it. Her hair is so pretty and classic. This look is great.
    FINALLY.

  47. SMD says:

She’s dressed appropriately for an event, kudos! I won’t even fuss because again, it’s appropriate and no one is getting flashed. Think the side swept low ponytail looks great on her, polished but not dowdy. Plus, she’s out so I’ll give her as much positive feedback as I can. Way to go Kate! Keep up those events properly attired!

  48. Hazel says:

I would have liked it as a short jacket, with black trousers or a skirt. As it is, it’s too much.

  49. Cat says:

I love this! The coat, the colours, the pattern. And her shoes! She’s coming more and more into her own style, I think.

  50. A says:

I like the coat and the look of the overall outfit. Especially the blue shoes (I’m a sucker for coloured shoes honestly). I think all the elements work well together, even if they wouldn’t look good individually. All of that plus the hair makes her look fairly great, and I’m glad. I don’t know who her stylist is right now, but whoever they are, they have a good eye for what royal fashion should look like, as well as what looks flattering on Kate. So good for them. Hopefully Kate picks up some of that knowledge and becomes more confident going forward as she takes more steps in the right direction. And I hope the stylist burns all of her clutches or chucks them in the garbage where they belong and gives her something that she can’t use to scratch her snatch with.

  51. Nikki says:

I really like this coat a lot. It reminded me of a classic Coco Chanel look, but with softer lines.

  52. Jackie Jormp Jomp says:

    This look is so 2004.
    Her hair looks nice.

  53. notasugarhere says:

The site is called CeleBitchy. If you only want comment on hard news, this isn’t the site for it.

  54. Beluga says:

No flashing, hair up and at least one engagement a week? Someone at the palace had a word, didn’t they? About time. It’s only been 5 years.

  55. I just don’t agree that they are improving Kate is somewhat improving by not having her ‘accidents, but thats setting the bar so low when they only show an hour or so at events, not even a half hour at times.

It only seems like they are more invested in duty because of the queen’s 90th birthday events and secondly they are doing more events as a PR clean up; seeing how the Cambridges were openly criticized during a personal interview back in april. (Perhaps, the interview was recorded in much earlier months.) The interview covered the Cambridges lack of events and PW had to respond. you can tell he was caught off guard by being openly questioned.
    http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/prince-william-fatherhood-role-future-king-learned-queen/story?id=38533164

The fact that PW had to talk about how he takes his responsibility seriously and how the Cambridges took on more events after the interview shows that the Cambridges were probably in the hot seat in the royal family and the public favor. Maybe it’s all a coincidence, but I don’t think so..

I think they are making the same mistakes though if the only thing people talk about is their fashion choices and children rather than focusing on the events Caambridges are suppose to support.

Maybe, I’m just paranoid , but to me its so hard for me to buy the act that they care for royal duty, when they have time after time shown they don’t care for thier patronages, royal duty, or even their public whom they are suppose to serve.

    • Zardi123 says:

You are so right tbey dont give one jot what anyone thinks
they are soo lazy and over entitled. .. and do not deserve the position they are in .. in fact they both should be told to get a job and work for a living instead of showing up as if its a fashion parade and staying for 30 minutes fake smiling as if they care which looks so false ..hyena smiling to the cameras in yet another designer outfit instead of it being about helping the needy

  56. MyLittlePony says:

Well, have to say Kate has made an effort lately, and has improved in leaps and bounds ( for Kate that is). Her hair looks great: a stylish and appropriate yet a youthful do. Not a fan of the dress, but it works for her. Also, there is a video on instagram of her doing her walk about for this event ( filmed by someone with their phone), and she really comes across nicely on that, and looks very pretty, too. She does not have Diana’s charm that Harry seems to have inherited, but she really is improving I think. Now, if only she would start putting in the hours (!)

  57. bird says:

Of all the solid colour coats that she owns, she somehow ended up in a checked coat at this particular event lo and behold, like her mother in law wore when she owned the charity 25 years ago? Shocking – not. http://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/721054/William-Kate-Manchester-visit-National-Football-Museum-Aston-Villa-Chelsea-Cenotaph

I do think that they were read the riot act at balmoral the other month by the queen. All of a sudden there seems to be an engagement each week since the Canada tour – which is not their style at all. Lucky his helicopter “job” boss is a family friend – he can’t have undertaken a shift since before the Canada tour yet as soon as he screws up or gets called out by the press, we will magically get pap shots of him “at work”. Interesting that we get multiple instances of will working when he just happens t need good press and wants to look normal yet we never see pap shots of harry coming or going from the centre where he volunteers two days a week with returned veterans (which he does outside his royal duties).

    • Starlight says:

Oh my those earrings are weirdly coincidently the same as Diana wore, and the check I suppose – this is quite extraordinary because why would anyone seriously want to copy a woman who was like a sant to the British public n her own merit. That is like stealing!
