Prince William dissed by England’s (now fired) Football Association manager

Prince William doesn’t really have many patronages that he engages with on a regular basis. Granted, William has more patronages than his wife, but compared to the volume of work William’s father was doing at Will’s age, Will does seem awfully work-shy. What’s worse is that even with William’s few patronages, he barely shows up for any important events for those patronages. My favorite example of this is William’s “work” as the honorary president of BAFTA, a role he’s had for the past six years. In those six years, BAFTA president Work-Shy Will has only attended the annual BAFTAs twice. Once in 2011 and once in 2014. He’s skipped/snubbed the last two BAFTAs. He’s even skipped the pre-BAFTA dinners HELD AT KENSINGTON PALACE. Literally, his KP staffers organize fancy dinners the night before the BAFTAs and William has refused to show up two years in a row.

So what other major “fun” patronages does William let down on a regular basis? Well, he’s president of England’s Football Association. England is one of a dozen “host” countries for the UEFA 2020 games, and there was a launch event last week. Guess who didn’t show up? Hahaha. So, the (now sh-tcanned) manager of Team England took a very public swipe at William.

England manager Sam Allardyce lambasted Prince William for failing to attend the launch of Euro 2020, saying: ‘It would have been nice if he’d turned up.’

In a thinly-veiled dig at the FA boss, Allardyce mocked the Duke for having ‘much busier things on’ when he did not go to the event, held on Wednesday last week. He told the Daily Telegraph reporters: ‘The only one that never turned up was Prince William. He’s our ambassador for the Football Association, so it would have been nice if he’d have turned up but he obviously had more, much busier things on.’

The Three Lions boss made the comments as he was filmed on a hidden camera allegedly making a string of claims about transfer rules. When he was told William is a helicopter pilot, Allardyce replied and insisted it was Harry – before going on to describe as a ‘naughty boy’.

‘Harry’s the helicopter man,’ he insisted. ‘Harry’s a very naughty boy, very naughty. He shows his bottom and all sorts.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Allardyce’s comments were part of a larger “hidden camera” or sting operation conducted by the Telegraph. Hours after the scandal went wide, Allardyce “mutually” agreed to step down as manager, but he didn’t do it because of these Work-Sky Will comments – he basically got fired for admitting that there a lot of different ways to get around the UEFA’s transfer rules and more. It’s complicated and I don’t really care about that part of the story. But I’m here for the shade! I find it fascinating that William doesn’t even come out for his fun patronages – I mean, surely being president of England’s Football Association is a dream job for, like, ALL of the men in England? And Willy couldn’t be bothered to do anything vaguely resembling work, not when his Canadian vacation was about to start! God knows, he might have had to skim a briefing paper.

Here are some better-quality shots of Kate in that Preen dress.

Are we surprised?!?! They needed to rest up loads for all the hard work during the Canadian holiday this week – its really not easy being a lazy royal, takes a lot of effort and practice. I wonder how long it will be before he’s dropped by the FA and BAFTA with them being passed over to Harry or another Royal? Please give BATFA to the Wessex’s – can you really see Chutney cycling palace to palace for the DoE Award Scheme? Sophie did amazingly well with the bike ride, shame it didn’t get enough press.

As much as i love that red dress – its screams for some statement jewels (the brooch was not the right choice for the dress – one of TQ’s blingy necklaces would have really worked it). Also I digged her green dress from yesterday – i love that style and green is her colour thou am over the touristy theming with the maple leaf accessorizing. Its the kind of thing you see tween tourists doing.

As for Harry – leave our favourite naughty boy alone!

I was a terrible chore-avoider when I was a child. My mother ironically nicknamed me Flash because I was so slow to get on with them. She always used to say to me that I put more effort into avoiding them than I ever would just doing them. I often think of that vis a vis Normal Bill and Katie Bucket.

    • Tina says:

Harry does a fab job as patron of the England RFU (rugby). He did a lot of work for the Rugby World Cup, which was in England last year. He’d be great at the FA role as well. I think William lost interest when we lost the 2018 World Cup bid, but even the FA can’t out-corrupt Russia.

    • frisbeejada says:

I pride myself of my ability to chronically procrastinate over things I don’t enjoy – housework mainly but that is a ‘chore’, there’s a huge difference between avoiding something most people think of as a ‘chore’ and avoiding an event most people would give their right arm to attend. This just rubs everyone’s nose in to the fact that William is just not ‘most people’. He wants to be ‘normal’ but appears to be incapable of demonstrating ‘normal’ behavior. What he can demonstrate – even without realising it is that’s he’s an entitled spoiled brat. Blase in the truest sense of the word.
Allardyce is just further proof that we have a really bad problem in the UK with the quality of people who make it into these top jobs, the quality of the so called ‘top drawer’, people who are supposed to organise the rest of us is really, really dire. Whether they get the job by an accident of womb (Normal Bill) or by the old boy’s network it’s possibly worse now than it’s ever been.

  2. Lainey says:

Love the shade. Itd be interesting to know what all the people involved with wills patronages thought about him.

    • Luca76 says:

None of this meets the definition of shade darlings it’s just regular trash talking.

    • Annetommy says:

The patronage thing is ridiculous. Organisations should just stop asking them. The “eeny meeny miney moe, I’ll do England, you can have Scotland / Wales / Northern Ireland” is just plain offensive. If organisations didn’t bother asking them, it wouldn’t matter whether they turned up or not. Outdated nonsense.

  3. Phd Gossip says:

    The arms looks ghastly.

  4. Sixer says:

The FA is as bad as FIFA, you know. All of football is. I read a funny tweet yesterday saying something along the lines of you don’t pay millions of quid a week to some potato head or other for kicking a football once a week unless EVERYONE is taking a cut. Never a truer word.

Still, RIP Big Sam. You are funny even if you are a dodgy geezer and if one of your parting shots is aimed at Normal Bill, you’re nigh on rehabilitated in my eyes.

    • als says:

That tweet is spot on, football players are being paid obscene amounts of money.
However, they look better when compared to William, that is being ‘paid’ obscene amounts of money for doing nothing most of the time and sometimes for vacationing in different parts of the world.

    • manta says:

Was Allardyce the FA manager though? I thought, it was in England like in other european countries: an association (the FA) which manages all competitions, with its own board and manager, and appoints the coach of the national team (here Allardyce),and a league that takes care of professional specifically (the EPL ).

I’ve never heard about somebody being at the same time the coach for the national team and the head of the FA.

      • Sixer says:

That’s not what I said nor what I meant. I meant domestic football arrangements are as corrupted as international football arrangements.

I framed it like that because I know Americans are aware of the outrageous corruption within FIFA (this site has posted about it, for example, and John Oliver has run several segments on his show) but may not be aware the English FA and the EPL and individual transfer dealings etc etc etc are just as bad.

Allardyce, the England manager, has been forced to step down because of statements he made about corruption within club level FA AND EPL player transfers and his possible involvement in it. Nothing to do with what he has done as England manager.

Thought that was obvious, but apologies if I wasn’t clear!

      • manta says:

        To Sixer
Oh no you were very clear. I’m the one apologizing. I posted my question under your name because you seem to be the expert on English matters.
I should have been more precise. My question came from the headline “the now fired FA manager” and I had a moment of “what someone let Allardyce managed all the FA instead of just the England team?”
But I share your sentiment about football associations in general (the national and international ones).

      • Sixer says:

        Gotcha! Double sorry!

Allardyce is an ex-manager of domestic clubs including EPL clubs. He was given the England manager job by the FA. The sting basically exposed him as being involved or prepared to be involved in illegal third-party player ownership deals – presumably taking a bung for facilitating them. And because of this dodgy dealing, he’s been forced to stand down as England manager.

Technically, nothing really to do with either the FA or the EPL authorities but this really is so endemic, often involving FA or EPL staff, it’s not credible to think the whole sport is up to its neck in it.

“Harry’s the helicopter man,’ he insisted. ‘Harry’s a very naughty boy, very naughty. He shows his bottom and all sorts.”

thats one of the funniest things i have ever read.

    • Jaded says:

Sounds totally Monty Python/Holy Grail doesn’t it!

Said in Terry Jones’ voice…”He’s not the Messiah, his name is Brian and he’s a very naughty boy!!”

  6. puffinlunde says:

Wasn’t he at work on the helicopter ambulance last week? I saw him interviewed at work on a news report.

    • LAK says:

That interview and documentary were filmed around the time he started working there. Documentary was finally shown last week. Snippets are cut from it to look new and recent, but it’s the hair that is a give away.

      • Sixer says:

Yep. But I did enjoy Normal Bill’s attempts at Normal Banter!

      • LAK says:

It’s funny to see him being all normal bill and one of the team then remember that 6mths after the filming, his colleagues leaked to the press that they dislike him and he is never around.

      • Sixer says:

Exactly! I was thinking of you actually when that interview aired a few weeks back!

  7. Mara says:

To be fair to Wills anything that is not played on a horse is not a real sport

  8. Kitty says:

AWKWARD!!!! Even people think he is lazy and lacks work ethic. Ouch!

    • Citresse says:

Don’t confuse apathy with laziness. I earlier thought he was the laziest KIng-to-be in all recorded history but a CDN media source claimed William was “visibly moved” when a shelter worker in Vancouver spoke about Diana. I’m interpreting it as his eyes tearing up (now I’m starting to wonder if he was indeed tearing up at the Taj?). If intense feelings are just under the surface then he’s carrying a lot of sadness.

      • notasugarhere says:

Citresse, him being moved by someone mentioning his mother does not mean he isn’t lazy and apathetic. He does less than the bare minimum, and trades on his mother’s memory and his kids for good PR to cover his lack of work ethic. He attacks the media and goes after freedom of speech, because he is obsessed with secrecy. He doesn’t want anyone having proof of how little he does and how he really spends his time.

He has all the resources in the world to get help, which Charles insisted upon getting both boys after their mother’s death. He is 34 years old. Time to deal with the sadness, do his job, or get out.

  9. Starlight says:

Ingrid Seward of Majesty I notice made a comment about Charles being afraid of being shot at Diana’s funeral then that got put out in the online media yesterday and some said I wonder why that came out now in the middle of this Canada tour, Ingrid was the one who made the comment about Will and Kate being very ptivilidged after Kate never showed up for the Irish guards shamrock ceremony. Now this football managers comments are shown in the middle of the Canada tour. Hope this Canada tour ends up looking like a job well done and not a holiday with lots of presents

  10. notasugarhere says:

He shows up for the fun things, like movie premieres and big matches. The work behind that? Not happening now, never has and never will.

    • LAK says:

      His own wedding. Nuff said.

      • The Original Mia says:

Damn…he just coasts through life with nary a care or concern.

      • Lainey says:

Didn’t Harry do more behind the scenes for that than will’s did?

      • Betti says:

There was a VERY large team of people who worked round the clock on their wedding and he dissed them by moaning about the guest list a couple of months after it. I always laugh at the comment her family made at the time – they said they only wanted a ‘small family affair’. LOL

      • PHAKSI says:

        Wow LAK! Tell me more!

      • LAK says:

Phaksi: as much as the bridal couple could be involved in the wedding planning outside of the usual BP/govt planning of the event, William outsourced his part to Harry. Harry did most of the leg work where it should have been William. Kate had to work with Harry or Charles when she needed things eg Charles helped with the music. Harry and Pippa helped with the wedding planning. Harry attended any rehearsals including church ones involving the little attendants.

William attended very few meetings and as he told us, mostly to complain that he didn’t like the planning and requested things are changed eg the wedding guest list ( he got his wish), his wedding uniform (HM stood her ground on her choice)

William’s stated excuse was that he had to work and couldn’t take the time off.

      • notasugarhere says:

Deleting because of LAK’s much better response.

      • PHAKSI says:

OMG! :-0 those are not the actions of a man whose excited about getting married. I wonder how Kate felt about that. The tell all books must come soon. Cant believe she spent so many years chasing after such an awful man

    • Kitty says:

@notasugarhere, where did you here that he didn’t show up in his own wedding rehearsals?

  11. Elizabeth says:

I wish I could go to the BAFTAs every year! And raise money for animal charities just by showing up. I’d support figure skating instead of football, though, and opera and ballet and an orchestra or two. And then I’d go after FGM. Don’t these people CARE about anything but themselves?

  12. Cerys says:

I’m really not surprised by Sam Allardyce’s comments. William is bone-lazy and will only turn up to events that suit him or that he is pressured into attending eg trooping the colour etc. He really needs to step up or preferably step down.

  13. Anon says:

God I would be so embarrassed if William were my husband. She just seems so clueless as to why it would be a problem. It literally baffles me the way these two behave.

    • Chrissy says:

Unfortunately entitlement trumps being shameless in their little world. I too would be totally embarrassed to have such a husband but then my main goal in life was not getting Big Blue and my mother was not the meddling Carole Middleton. And I actually have a life, goals and self-respect, unlike the Duchess whose only goal in life is to bag the prince, hang on her husband’s every word and feed his ego, it seems. Such a pathetic life for a woman in the 21st century.

    • PHAKSI says:

Kate is just like Will, so of course she’s not embarrassed. She’s ducked out of lots of charities/ events. Birds of a feather really do flock together

  14. Pants says:

I’m admittedly lazy, but it’s almost impressive how little these two manage to do.

  15. Citresse says:

Allardyce: today’s version of a beheading.
Kate: looks nice in the red dress but still heavy handed with the eyeliner.
    William: deep depression

  16. Kaz says:

Oh dear, the heavy black eyeliner is just taking over her face! Someone in her employ needs to stage an intervention!

  17. Elizabeth says:

that top picture is a good answer to all the posts yesterday discussing Kate’s true height 😛
And really good to see more and more people calling out William’s work avoidance..its not even work-shy anymore! William only bothers for celebrities like David Beckham

  18. Wendy says:

Me on Kate’s dress: “Oh, that’s a great dress” *sees hemline* “…Nevermind.”

William puts more work into not working than most people put into working.

  19. Sparkly says:

That top pic looks like Waity’s growling, “Look at how hard he works, bitches! See? SEE?” while behind her, that lady’s face says everything we’re thinking.

  20. Jaded says:

God she looks awful….like a string bean with two black eyes.

  21. Patty says:

That top photo? Damn. Homegirl is looking rough. She looks a good 10 years older than she actually is. The difference between her photoshop and non-photoshop pictures is becoming more and more jarring.

  22. Okcomputer says:

So this guy is allegedly encouraging corruption ( a massive problem in the world soccer organisation) but people are loving him because he shades will? The hate is strong for that one in these pages…

  23. DSA says:

    I’m just glad I’m not a British/Commonwealth tax-payer.

The other day, I was watching a show on the prison strikes in America (they’re forced to work in prison, and the Americans liken it to slavery). I began to wonder whether tax-payers should be forced to carry all the burden of paying for running prisons (although technically it is to lock criminals up and keep the rest of the population safe). But then I realised that I should save those sentiments for the remaining monarchies of Europe.

Then I did some Googling on “anti-monarchy” and one of the main arguments for keeping them around is because “tourists like them” (as in they’re kept around because the government want to make money off foreigners like me). Meh, they’re racist. Once the rest of the world catches up on how racist they are, the monarchy will be obsolete.

  24. Margo S. says:

Why does kate look like she’s in her 40s… but apparently she’s only 34? Is that just bad genetics??
